Thanks to new materials that make it possible for flame resistant clothes to be both comfortable
and safe, they are being used in many of today's businesses. Any worker that could possibly be
exposed to a fire or ignition substance will benefit from these safety oriented clothes.
Commercial Kitchens
Commercials kitchens combine many types of liquids like alcohols and oils with an open flame,
a flammable combination that could start a serious fire. Restaurant staff and chefs are in danger,
in addition to anyone else in or around the kitchen area.
By providing the kitchen staff with fire retardant clothes, they receive protection against any
accidents that may produce a fire while cooking. These incidents often include flash fires like
with certain desserts that quickly get out of control. As fire bursts forth, a chef and other kitchen
personnel are at risk of serious injury from fire.
Flame resistant clothes might not survive a devastating inferno, but they are ideal for protecting
against kitchen fires that result from cooking. The fabric of these clothes will not ignite as they
quickly self extinguish when touched by fire. The wicking material used in this type of clothing
provides a cooler outfit than with other fabrics, and cool is perfect for the hot kitchen. Why
sweat if you don't have to.
Electricity Workers
Most people think of open flames when they think of the most common source of a fire, but
electrical arcs are another cause because they are hot and cause materials to combust
spontaneously.
Those working with high voltage equipment like electrical linemen and utility workers are
always in danger from the threat of fire or arc flashes. Electrical accidents can quickly spark a
fire and workers that are unprepared run the risk of being badly burned before even having time
to react.

While flame resistant clothes provide protection from a fire, they can also offer defense against
an electrical arc. They can be worn underneath other forms of protective clothing like coveralls
or work shirts since they are so light, providing an extra layer of security. Even workers who
don't usually need protective uniforms can wear flame resistant clothes as a safety measure just
in case a fire breaks out.
Laboratories
Chemical laboratories are full of dangers from volatile chemicals and open flames to dangerous
reactions that combust even without a spark. While standard lab coats provide a little protection
against spills, they don't do much to protect against fires.
Flame resistant clothes like coveralls fit over regular clothes to provide protection against
chemical spills and fire. Modacrylic fabrics are fire resistant and do not contain additional
chemicals that may react with any compounds they encounter.
The number of workers who benefit from flame resistant clothes is endless, including auto
mechanics, flight crews, welders, and many more. This comfortable clothing doesn't feel like it's
protective clothing, driving many industries to outfit their employees in fire retardant clothing.
