18	We have added population figures and rate of charges per 100,000 population to help make sense of the number of charges. Forces who reported 0 charges in 2016 OR 0 charges in the first months of 2017 OR less than 1 charge per 100,000 population are highlighted in red in the data.
19	In late 2015 the new law of “controlling or coercive behaviour” was introduced across the country in a bid to widen the scope of domestic abuse crimes to encompass things like restricting access to money or freedom of movement.
20	The population figures are for (mid-2016) and are the ones used by the ONS to report on crime per police force for the year ending June 2017
21	Make sure to note that only 29 of the 39 police forces were able to provide data.
22	The data for 2017 does not cover the whole year, in most cases the data will cover January to July. When the police force made clear mention of the period they reported on, we made note of it within the data sheet. If they did not specify when it was extracted we provided the date when it was received.
23	When comparing your force to others you’ll want to use forces who reported on the same time period for 2017.
