1 | REGIONGUESSING META LIBRARY
2 | this contribution to meta slavery was made by Lupus (Discord: l.upus)
3 | A LOT OF RESOURCES ARE CURRENTLY LACKING DESCRIPTIONS. I'M TRYING TO CATCH UP WITH EVERYTHING AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
4 | Learning to regionguess a country - where to start?
5 | In the past few years the GeoGuessr community really has moved past the point where simply recognizing a country would be enough to compete on a decently high level. The aspect of also getting accurate guesses within the country nowadays has an incredibly high value. As a result players have put in more and more time studying certain countries, researching clues and luckily also sharing their new knowledge. It's hard to believe but in a relatively short time several hundred resources about this topic have been published and most countries have at least a few of them to help players step up their regionguessing skills. Due to this large amount it's quite common that you remember seeing a resource somewhere but then struggle to find it again. Also, it's actually difficult to decide where to start being confronted with sometimes dozens of documents, infographics, video guides and more when you want to dive into a new country. The amount of knowledge can be overwhelming and often multiple resources explain the same things so you can easily end up spending way more time studying a country than necessary by reading the same tips over and over again.
6 | This library is an attempt to solve these issues by currently storing more than 750 resources of all sorts in one place and additionally giving a bunch of information about each one: - author (with their Discord tag if known) - type of resource - time it takes to study it (estimated, this does not include time to memorize everything) - description what it is about - my subjective recommendation (in italics) on how important/useful/interesting it is (Why would you listen to my advice? I'm a huge meta slave and I've spent countless hours studying all sorts of documents. I also try to memorize a ton of metas and apply them whenever I can so I have a decent understanding about how reliable and common they are. After spending much time researching stuff on my own and trying to get decent at regionguessing most countries, I'm at a point where I can mostly tell how important metas are to learn.)
7 | This spreadsheet currently only contains country specific resources. They are sorted by continent through the different subsheets and then alphabetically by country. Of course this is a subjective opinion but whatever I find the most useful about a country will then be listed on top. However, area codes will always be the last link for a country no matter how important they are to learn.
8 | Since I can't study every resource in depth, I also rely on your help with this. Please let me know - if you know of resources that are currently missing and should be added - if you find any mistakes (wrong links, authors, inaccurate descriptions) - if a resource is heavily outdated, inaccurate or got deleted
9 | Have fun discovering, I'm sure you will find a bunch of stuff here that you haven't seen before.
10 | General resources | |
11 | Here are a couple of good links that can be helpful for most countries.
12 | https://www.plonkit.net/guide
13 | The Plonk It team consists of some very experienced players. They have put in a ton of time to create guides for every single country. For each there are many tips to identify it and regionguess within it. The information is always easy to follow, there are good explanations, many examples and overall just a very professional layout. The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it.
14 | https://super-duper.fr/index_en.php
15 | This website by @.flamby. has a similar approach like this library. It also links to documents but most importantly it's a great addition as it has links to country specific maps, quizzes of all sorts and challenges which I decided not to include here.
16 | https://geo.emily.bz/
17 | Emily's website is another incredible resource no matter which country you would like to study. Here you can find map quizzes for most countries which are great for learning subdivisions, area codes and more. Additionally there are coverage maps for all countries. Using these you can filter coverage by year and month to figure out some useful patterns in camera generations, seasons and more.
18 | https://sites.google.com/site/roadnumberingsystems/home
19 | Especially for Moving games it can be quite helpful to understand how the road numbering system works. This website gives detailed explanations about this topic and can be worth a look. |

2 | Botswana (8) | Plonk It Guide - Botswana | Plonk It team | Document (10 min read) | The Plonk It Guide is put together by some very experienced players. It's currently still WIP but already has a lot of countries covered. For every country there are many tips to identify it and regionguess within it. The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. The regionguessing section for Botswana is quite detailed and highlights a lot of recognizable roads as well. "As usual the Plonk It Guide is very compact and good if you don't know too much about regionguessing yet. Great resource." |
3 | The Botswanan Document | @havrd | Document ( min read) | description will be added in the future
4 | Botswana Tips | Jasper Woodard | Video guide (39 min) | Jasper Woodard was one of the first people trying to get really good in Botswana. In this video series consisting of two parts he explains what he found out and what to pay attention to. "Although this is already quite old for today's standards, it's an amazing resource. Jasper breaks down regionguessing starting with the simplest of tips and finishing it off with ways to recognize most of the important roads. A good addition to the Plonk It Guide with more examples and some actual gameplay showing his thought process."
5 | Weather, sun, travel directions | @l.upus | Map json | A json file that can be imported into the Map Making App. Once opened there you get tags for weather, sun direction, smudges, dirt roads and some other things. By turning the marker style to "Camera direction arrow" you can see the travel direction of the Google car. Flamby made an actual Map out of it where you can look at the different aspects. "The json is made by myself but Flamby's map is easier to handle and more accessible. Using stuff like weather, sun direction, road angle and travel direction you can identify the majority of roads. It's a lot to learn but for everyone who wants to get incredibly good at Botswana, this can help a lot to figure out clues for all the roads. Of course it's not a guide though so you have to work for it yourself still."
6 | Weather, sun travel directions | @.flamby. | Map
7 | Dirty back of the car | @nnotarya | Infographic | An infographic showing where different dirty backs of the car are found. "Not the most useful but will help people who want to dive deep into this country and learn pretty much every road."

17 | Ghana Road Quality Map | @ma1akai | Infographic | A very detailed map of different types of roads (dirt, paved, road lines). Has all the covered ones on it. "Not really learnable unless you put a bunch of time in. Still a helpful research to differentiate some roads. Especially in northern Ghana where there is little coverage this will help you learn the roads. It also introduces a way to tell apart big sections of the N10 and N12 which can look quite similar and have the same rough orientation."
18 | Language structure | @seb010101 | Infographic | Highlights how the language in south-eastern Ghana can differ from other parts of the country. "Quite interesting and can be useful if you are able to recognize these dialects. Quick read and you will learn something new about the world."
19 | Ghana Taxi Guide Part 1 | @seb010101 | Infographic | Explains how to use codes on Taxis to your advantage. "Only covers six cities and Accra and Kumasi are not part of this. Super niche, usefulness questionable. Potentially for Moving games where you can actually look for this by moving towards taxis. For NM and NMPZ this is probably not worth learning."
20 | Ghana Taxi Guide Part 2 | Infographic
21 | Ghana tape differences | @vehicleronald | Map | Original post by VehicleRonald about how to further make use of Geoguessr's most famous meta. "This is already included in the Plonk It Guide but in case you are looking for the first time this was brought up, here it is."
22 | Kumasi street sign colors | @torgeantihl | Infographic | Shows the different colors of street signs throughout Kumasi. "Not that useful. Could potentially be worth learning for Moving to reduce scanning time."
23 | Accra Stickers | @seb010101 | Infographic | Research on how stickers on street signs differ in parts of Accra. "Incredibly niche and will hardly ever be useful in-game. Also apparently helps for potential Accra Kumasi 50-50s though which can be convenient."
24 | Roads in Northern Ghana | @tmcdermid | Infographic | The coverage in the north of the country is sparse and the roads are all very learnable. This infographic shows how to tell them apart by road quality. "This was the base for Mal's infographic above which is an upgrade to this. Look at that one instead. What's interesting though is that it marks the N12 differently. Not sure which is reliable."

The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. The Kenya regionguessing section especially covers a lot of landscape and car meta clues. "Has everything to get started learning this country. Very much recommended." |
27 | Kenya Gen 4 | @salex57 | Spreadsheet (10 min read) | Mostly shows the vibes of different regions in Kenya with a lot of examples. Also has some car meta and other tips though. "Very worth having a look at this to get an idea of vibes all around the country. Quite extensive with a lot of images (all in gen 4). The car section isn't very big and snowf_lake's guide below is a better resource on that behalf."
28 | Kenya gen4 car metas | @snowf_lake | Document (5 min read) | A detailed research on all sorts of car metas in gen 4. Images of the metas and distribution maps. "Some of these tips are already included in the first two guides but if you are into car meta, this is still very much worth studying. The metas are further broken down into smaller sections and will boost your regionguessing skills."

30 | Postcodes | @.flamby. | Infographic | description will be added in the future
31 | Kenya Basics | Vetyr | Spreadsheet (5 min read) | A brief guide on some basic regionguessing tips. "A little outdated as it was made before Kenya got gen 4. Has the gen 3 smudge metas in case you are looking to find them. Not really important to read through this nowadays."
32 | Kenya Worksheet | Tall Impala | Infographic | Distribution and travel direction of the two common gen 3 cars. "Most of the coverage got overwritten so this is not really worth learning anymore. A simplified version of this is included in Plonk It Guide."
33 | Lesotho (5) | Lesotho Pinpoint Guide | @hibasi | Document (20 min read) | Explains how to recognize most roads in Lesotho based on landscape, road quality, weather and travel direction Also looks at some cities. "An efficient way to quickly get better at Lesotho using meta. Playing through some seeds and reading alongside about how to recognize locations will let you recognize more and more roads." |
34 | The Kingdom in the Sky | Alfgrimur Acosta X!ro#6535 | Document (1 h read) | An incredibly detailed guide which focuses mostly on landscapes and how to recognize all sorts of cities, towns and other places throughout the country. "The dedication put into this super extensive document is admirable and the overall layout looks very clean. If you are ever done with "The Mongolian Meta" and you want more of it, this is a great continuation. If you are looking for a way to learn just the most important tips, this will overload you with information though. Hibasi's guide is the more efficient way to get good at this country, this one is the more pure way with less meta and more actual knowledge about Lesotho."

The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. "The regionguessing part in this guide is pretty short and you won't learn many roads or cities from this. If you are just looking for the absolute basics this works fine though."
37 | Lesotho Taxis | @seb010101 | Infographic | Shows the different city abbreviations found on taxis. "Will probably almost never show up NM and unlikely to be used often for Moving either. There's definitely more useful stuff to learn about this country."

43 | Camera generation map | @meltinglce | Map | Shows where you can find the 3 major camera differences in Nigeria: Gen 3, gen 4 and official ari coverage. "It takes like one minute to understand the main take aways from this so very much recommended to have a quick look at this."

46 | Gen 4 car metas | @sector5727 | Spreadsheet (5 min read) | A handful of car metas with the new coverage such as wheels in the truckbed, convoys and more. "The graphic by victheturtle above suggests that this spreadsheet probably lacks some accuracy. It introduces a few additional metas though (red and white trucks, junk in the truckbed). Looking at this quickly might be worth but I wouldn't fully trust this document."
47 | Gombe State | @seb010101 | Infographic | Explains how to identify Gombe State and how to use road markers there to your advantage. "As it's often the case, AyudĂn's researches are an interesting read but not the most useful for Geoguessr. The coverage in Gombe state consists of only three roads and the way the markers work is rather obvious. Still, it's nice to know about them and after reading through this infographic you can be quite confident in your Gombe state regionguessing skills."

The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. Considering Senegal is not too big the regionguessing section is relatively extensive compared to other countries. "Very amazing resource to get good at this very learnable country. You are taught how to identify roads both with landscape and car meta. Combined with some practice you will soon be able to recognize many parts of the coverage in this country." |
56 | Senegal Car Meta | @davinfigjam @geocookiee | Document ( min read) | description will be added in the future
57 | Rural Senegal basics | @l.upus | Spreadsheet (10 min read) | Introduces all sorts of car metas in gen 3 and 4. Also includes some gen 3 vibes. "Made by myself. For car meta enthusiasts the gen 4 section is a must. The basics of this are already part of the Plonk It Guide though. Gen 3 is not very useful nowadays as it's mostly overwritten. The vibes section is partly outdated as it was made for gen 3. Sticking to the guide above for stuff like landscapes makes more sense."
58 | Senegalese street signs | @seb010101 | Infographic | Information about which cities use street signs, how they are formated and how this can differ. "Helpful research, especially as urban Senegal is tough to regionguess otherwise. One big take away is that Touba which is the common hedge spot for many people apparently doesn't use these signs neither do cities in eastern Senegal."
59 | South Africa (8) | Metas and Tips for South Africa | @l.upus | Spreadsheet (40 min read) | A ton of metas and other tips of all sorts to get better at South Africa. All metas are explained in both how to recognize them and where they are found. Also includes a list of roads, where to find them and how the national highways are sectioned. "Made by myself. This spreadsheet is quite extensive and you will hardly remember everything you read in it. Still, it is well structured so you can just pick a topic like poles for instance, learn those then come back at some point to learn another part. If you are struggling with South Africa this is definitely a must read. South African metas aren't the most consistent though and landscapes are still very important to learn. Those aren't really covered here." |
60 | South Africa landscape guide | @jonathan.0175 | Document (15 min read) | Covers a variety of different landscapes across the country. Each tip has images, location links, explanations and a map of where to find that type of landscape. Also contains some car/camera metas. "A perfect addition to the guide above. "Overall an extensive and very solid resource with tons of good tips. Some explanations lack preciseness and contradict each other though. For instance a pole is described as exclusive but then also found in a collection of poles in another province. Generally this is not the best resource to learn poles as it mostly just dumps all of them without giving any context of how common they are. Other than that you will find a lot of very helpful clues here and although this is a long study, it's very worth it if you want to become a good Indonesia player."

53 | Indonesian Roofs | @alokatr | Spreadsheet (10 min read) | Goes over some of the most recognizable architecture that's specific to certain regions of the country. "Helpful research if you are looking just for architecture. Most of this is also included in the Plonk It Guide though."
54 | Indonesian poles | @pig.gg | Spreadsheet (15 min read) | Collection of images of poles. Sorted by province. "Not all provinces are filled but you can get a pretty good idea of how poles differ throughout the country. The spreadsheet barely contains any explanations though so it's impossible to know how common or reliable the poles are or if there is a special feature that makes a pole unique. This is similar to PenRaiser's slideshow so if you already studied that, this spreadsheet is not too important to look at unless you want to have even more input on that topic."
55 | Indonesian poles | @bullfrogggy | Infographic | Bullfrogggy was the first to bring up several of the most important pole top metas. This is the original research. 60 | Gorontalo pole stickers | @penraiser | Infographic | Breaks down how pole markings in Gorontalo can be used to get really close. "Cool research but another very niche one which is mostly for people who are deep into Indonesia."
61 | Sumatra poles | @pig.gg | Infographic | Overview of the most common pole tops on Sumatra. "Really lacks explanations. 62 | Traditional Indonesian houses | Unknown | Infographic | Shows how traditional architecture thorughout Indonesia looks. "Beautiful image but with very low resolution. Also for street signs a better resource exists which can be found below. Everything apart from this is very worth reading through though."
66 | Short antenna distribution | @meltinglce | Map | Shows in which parts of the country the short antenna car can be found. "This is definitely quite helpful to know. I have to say though that this map is not 100% accurate. From my experience the car can at least also be found in Ashkelon further south on the coast. Therefore I would generally be a bit careful with this map but for most parts it should be correct."

71 | Japan Guide | @dazainlh | Document (45 min read) | Extensive guide about all sorts of clues ranging from infrastructure to nature. "Very amazing document for anyone who wants to dive into Japan. Dazai focuses on clues that are applicable and not too niche. And since Japan is a country with a lot of meta, there is still tons of good clues. For some sections (especially poles) there are more detailed resources though as this document was made before a lot of these metas were discovered. So make sure to check some guides below as well since stuff like pole tops, plates, guywires and transformers are incredibly helpful and mostly not included here."
72 | A Japan Guide | @fanty | Document (40 min read) | Great document covering dozens of good clues for regionguessing. "Overall this has a ton of overlap with the guide above and just looking through one of them should be enough. Some aspects are better elaborated here, some on Dazai's guide. I personally like that one a little more as it has a little more info but both are very good resources without any doubt."
73 | Regional Plates on Utility Poles | @shinrafn | Document (10 min read) | Translated version of a detailed research about pole plates by the Japanese community. By being able to identify pole plates you can easily guess in the right region. "Pole plates are very powerful and a famous meta by now. They aren't very difficult to learn as it's only a few and they show up very frequently. Definitely one of the most important Japan metas along with all the other pole metas found below. A great alternative to this guide is the video version of this, made by Dazai."
74 | Regional Differences in Guy-Wires | @ananasso_ | Document (15 min read) | Guy wires can be region specific, here you can learn how to make use of them. "Guy wires are often not as specific as plates but still very useful as they can be seen from quite far away. This document features detailed explanation and is a perfect learning resource for them."
75 | Pole Tops | @dazainlh | Document (5 min read) | Two resources on pole tops which can also be used for region guessing as they are often quite specific. "Pole tops are still a relatively new discovery but have much potential as they can be seen from the distance. l I decided to group these two resources and I would recommend looking at both. There is some overlap but some pole tops differ. One mistake on brikiiee's infographic that has been pointed out is that the Kanto pole top (marked yellow) can be found in Okinawa but not Kyushu. Hard to tell how useful pole tops are compared to other stuff like plates and guy wires but they are definitely very worth learning."
76 | Pole Tops | @brikiiee | Infographic
77 | Japanese Uility Pole Transformers | @jakobobo | Document (10 min read) | Explains the major differences between transformers and how they are attached. Similar to all the other pole related metas this is very commonly region specific. "Helpful document in a unique handwritten style. Transformers just like plates, guy wires and pole tops can be commonly seen and used for regionguessing. The other metas are probably a bit more common but this can still be useful quite often as most designs can be identified from far away. Learning all four groups of the clues related to poles can be a huge advantage compared to only knowing one or two of them."
78 | Multiple Japan meta videos | @dazainlh | Video guide (2h 13 min) | In a series of tutorials and other Japan videos Dazai covers a ton of clues. This features an in-depth video about pole plates, a high prefecture streak with explanations as well as tip videos on several other topics like stickers, guywires, pole tops, transformers and more. "Fantastic alternative to several of the other resources above. Also has a couple of clues in it that aren't found anywhere else. Especially the pole plate tutorial is great and you can consider watching it instead of reading through the document by the Japanese community above. It features more examples and longer explanations. Either way definitely have a look at this playlist, you can learn a lot from it."

80 | Japan Prefecture Kanji | @radox1988 | List | Goes over kanji and phone codes for all the prefectures. This is just a list without explanation. "Both kanji and area codes are very common to see and can be a huge clue to get the right prefecture. Memorizing them isn't easy but it's very worth to put the time in. For area codes using a map with them is probably easier to learn from though (linked at the bottom of the Japan section in this library). For kanji you have to figure out the differences between the kanji by yourself but the more common ones can be a good help and RadoX1988 luckily put these at the bottom of the list."
81 | Prefecture Kanji Map | Unknown | Map | Links kanji to the prefecture on a map. "This can also be helpful to memorize the kanji alongside with the list above. Comes down to personal preference on how to learn them."
82 | Road numbering system of Japan | Unknown | Infographic | The way three digit national roads are numbered can look quite confusing but actually follows a somewhat logical system. The roads are numbered from north to south but restart multiple times in the north. Here you can see how this works. "Doesn't have any explanations but you will get the idea. This system is very helpful to know especially for Moving."

"Already included in Fanty's guide, Dazai's guide only features a Japanese version. This is quite difficult to memorize but knowing it can help a lot, especially for getting the right prefecture. It doesn't show up incredibly often but still often enough to be worth learning if you want to get really good at this country."

"The most important take aways from here are already found in previous resources. Those also indicate that there might be some slight inaccuracies here and there. Still, you can find a decent amount of tips here and it can be worth to have a look at this."
89 | Japanese Sidewalk Reflectors | @bullfrogggy | Infographic | There are two different ways of putting reflectors on side walks. Here you can see where you can find them. "It doesn't take very long to learn this and can be helpful from time to time. Not that important but why not."
90 | Stop fonts | Unknown | Infographic | When seeing the "stop" kanji on the road, you can use that for regionguessing as the font for that differs throughout Japan. "Not that common to see but can be considered to learn, especially for prefecture streaking. The top resource goes into more detail than the bottom one and is probably the better choice. The second one is a little more basic."
91 | Stop font map | Unknown | Infographic
92 | Hokuriku pole numbers | Unknown | Infographic | The first digit of Hokuriku pole plates can tell you which prefecture you are in and even further narrow down where you are. "These can show up from time to time and especially for Moving they can reduce scanning time. A bit of a niche one but still worth remembering."
93 | Hexagon Road Signs in Japan | @matepotato | Document (15 min read) | Below hexagon road signs you can often find additional signs which can be region or prefecture specific. This document explains the differences. "Nice research but not that useful as you will often be able to just read the prefecture kanji found on the hexagonal sign. If you are too far away for reading NM/NMPZ though, it can help but that's a scenario which is quite specific and won't happen too often."
94 | Utility poles mini plates | @loocy_goosy | Infographic | Next to the big and famous plates on utility poles you can also find smaller ones which can also tell you the region. Here you can see a research on that. "Will only very rarely be useful as you can usually just identify the main big plates instead if you are actually close enough to properly see these tiny ones."
95 | Utility Pole Plate Map | @brikiiee | Infographic | Pole plate designs of the different regions on a map. "Not really a learning resource, previously listed guides have explanations. This is a helpful overview though."
96 | Electrical Company's Logos | @.blueskies | Infographic | Shows the logos of the region specific electircal companies on a map. 101 | Shimane Round Sticker | @kakageo | Infographic | These stickers are very common on signs and poles in Shimane. It's currently still WIP but already has a lot of countries covered. For every country there are many tips to identify it and regionguess within it. The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. The Kyrgystan guide however is one of the most exensive and covers tons of clues to recognize all of the most important parts of coverage in this country. "It's really difficult to rank the first three resources about Kyrgyzstan. They are all incredibly well made and it pretty much comes down to personal preference which one you want to study. The Plonk It one and "The Kyrgyzstan Meta" are a bit more compact though and easier to use for players that don't know too much about this country yet. So if you are just getting into learning all the roads and major cities going with one of them is probably the smartest. They are still long documents though and you probably have to split up learning it. The Plonk It Guide is very well organized and has good explantions for everything. Totally recommended for anyone who wants to study Kyrgyzstan." |
131 | The Kyrgyzstan Meta | Amazonrun @sci_ith | Document (45 min read) | Very extensive document containing all sorts of tips starting with the most applicable ones and going all the way to recognizing specific intersections and bridges. "Not all of this is really worth studying but it has the most impotant clues with examples, maps and good explanations. Everything is well structured so you will start by learning the basics and then dive deeper and deeper. Just figure out when to stop so you don't drown."
132 | Kyrgyzstan Guide | @tmcdermid | Document (2 h read) | Incredibly detailed document describing how to recognize every road based on landscape and covergage meta. "Insane work of dedication. Well organized and designed. For everyone who wants to become very skilled at Kyrgyzstan this is the place to go. You can learn pretty much all the important coverage with this. This guide splits the country into several regions, explains how to recognize all the roads and big cities there and at the end of each section also gives you a map to practice with. Using this guide you can quickly become an absolute pro at this country. If you are looking for a more basic approach though, I would recommend going with one of the documents above."

135 | Kyrgyzstan Tips | Jasper Woodard | Video guide (34 min) | Jasper was the person originally finding the mirror meta and he introduced it in this video series along with a lot of other tips. "Overall a bit outdated by now but can be a decent one if you are looking for some actual gameplay with tips."
136 | Distinctive Bottom Pole Markings | @tmcdermid | Spreadsheet (5 min read) | Highlights how pole markings differ throughout the country. "A few of these are already included in tmcdermid's huge Kyrgyzstan Guide above. This is a good overview for these markings but memorizing them doesn't seem to be incredibly important unless you want to master this country."
137 | Identification codes on vehicles | @seb010101 | Infographic | Explains that commercial vehicles often have their identification code unblurred on the back. Laos is one of the easiest countries to master and this is perfect as a first step." |

The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. "Quite limited but a decent alternative to zi8gzag's guide if you are only looking for the most basic clues."

"Probably the most iconic document. And that's not only due to its extensiveness. This document is incredibly well made with love for detail, great explanations and helpful infographics. It guides you in a path that's easy to follow from complete beginner to expert level. It includes many challenge links for practice along the way which will help you solidify what you learned. Very awesome document that's recommended for Mongolia beginners but also players that already know a few things about this country. Jasper's presentation as always is easy to follow and interesting to watch. Especially recommended for people who want to get better at this country while not looking at car meta all the time."
164 | High Yield Mongolian Meta Tips | @ragnarak54 | Video guide (11 min) | Quick guide mostly on some of the most important car metas. "Builds on Jasper's video but can also be watched alone. This almost exclusively focuses on coverage meta and summarizes the most high yield metas from Kommu's document. Contains examples and is overall very well explained in a way that's easy to learn from. Great alternative to The Mongolian Meta which filters the main take aways out of that long document for you."

The most basic car meta which can be especially helpful for everyone who is very new to this country."
166 | Tips for Mongolia | @geocookiee | Video guide (31 min) | Goes through the main metas from Kommu's guide and presents them. "Absolutely amazing resource if you want to get better at Russia. Improving at Russia is a lot about coverage meta and here you will find pretty much all the information you could ever ask for. You won't be able to learn all of this at once so it is recommended to split studying up into multiple parts. If you are willing to do that though, this document is perfect. Everything is easy to follow and very well explained. There are summaries for each sections which help for memorization. Also, the provided practice maps along the way will help you to break down practice into a couple of steps. Totally recommended to learn from this."

This does make use of coverage meta as well but you also learn about landscape and other clues. So for people who are not really into car and seasonal meta, this is still something you can work with. Geo Book is a compilation of what they found out during their studies. It's currently only about Asian countries. The part about Russia is quite long and especially dives deep into all sorts of coverage metas as well as some other clues. "At the bottom there is a list of every oblast with the type of coverage you will find there. It's possible that something is missing here but most of it should be fairly accurate. Although this can be helpful, I would recommend studying the more extensive document on car and seasonal meta above as it's more precise and offers way more explanations and examples. There are a few other clues here, for instance about agriculture. Not too important but if you refuse to learn coverage meta, you can have a look."
207 | Russia vegetation | @.blueskies | Infographic | Handdrawn map of forest types and other landscapes. "Already part of the Geo Book. This looks more like something I would put on my wall than into the meta memory section of my brain. Very beautiful but also gives an overview over vegetation which obviously is a huge part when trying to improve at Russia. Worth a look for different reasons."
208 | Gen 3 short antenna map | @pig.gg | Map | A collection of maps about all sorts of car and seasonal meta. 3 | Plonk It Guide - Bermuda | Plonk It team | Document (5 min read) | The Plonk It Guide is put together by some very experienced players. It's currently still WIP but already has a lot of countries covered. For every country there are many tips to identify it and regionguess within it. The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. "There isn't much about regionguessing here. If you want to get better at that for some extra 10 points, the guide above has way more to offer."
4 | Canada (19) | Comprehensive Canada | @dsavage. | Document (3 h read) | Incredibly extensive document about all kind of known clues and metas to regionguess Canada. Ranging from basic to quite niche tips. Additionally has a couple of clues to differentiate the country from the US. "Unbelievable resource for everyone who wants to improve at literally anything related to Canada. Despite claiming to be missing stuff and being inaccurate in some parts, this contains pretty much everything you could ever ask for. Huge respect for putting together such a detailed resource which is still easy to learn from and very well organized. It has hundreds of images showing examples, explanations which are on point without being too long and offers a great way of navigation so you can't really get lost. Using this you can quickly find very specific stuff you are looking for. Since this is so extensive, you really have to be able to filter information though. You can't memorize all of this unless you invest many hours into this country. Still, this really is a masterpiece of a document." |

The Canada guide is quite long and contains many province specific clues. "Very helpful if you aren't too familiar with regionguessing Canada yet. The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. The Greenland Guide is very detailed explaining how to identify close to 50 locations across the island. "Learning this is more than enough unless you want to be able to recognize every location in Greenland. This guide covers all of the most common places and points out one or two unique clues for each of them. Good guide to learn everything important and more." |
29 | Extensive Greenland Guide | @meltinglce @epib cvbnx#6881 | Document (1 h read) | Extensive document about all types of locations and how to recognize them. Sorted by type of coverage and includes practice maps. "The guide is unfinished but the parts about car and ATV coverage seem to be done and those will be the most common on most maps anyway. This guide explains less compared to the Plonk It Guide but what's especially great about this one are the challenge links included after each section to practice certain types of coverage. You will be confronted with more niche stuff here but as a learning resource it will provide you with some helpful ways to get better quickly. Decide for yourself how much of this you are willing to learn."
30 | Greenland Tip Sesh | @harrier99 | Slideshow (30 min read) | Shows car, quad bike and boat coverage throughout Greenland and provides challenge links for practice. 34 | Guatemala car metas | @havrd | Document (10 min read) | Shows differences on the roof rack of the Google car and where to find them. "Quite a good one for car meta enjoyers. Splits up the country into smaller parts with some stuff that is easy to check for. "As urban Mexico is pretty tough this, similar to the plates, is one way to get better. Unlike the plates, Taxis are less likely to travel far though and will be found in the state they belong to most of the time. Still a bit of a niche meta which won't be useful incredibly often."

57 | Back of the Sign Stickers | @jerome8746 | Document (5 min read) | Research on markings on the back of signs and whether they are region specific. "As pointed out in the guide, there aren't too many helpful markings. In most cases car meta and landscape will be more effective than this."

60 | USA (35) | A Unique USA | @mistystar | Document (2 h read) | Very extensive document with tons of tips about all sorts of metas and a bit of landscape. "Well made and structured document which provides you with all of the important clues. It's super detailed but goes through more basic knowledge first and finishes off with a very long section focusing on every state individually afterwards which is not too important if you are just trying to get started with this huge country. I would say especially in that state specific section, landscapes could be described a bit more in-depth, right now there isn't too much about that and a lot of states only have very basic information about stuff like plates and highway shields. I think the document is still being updated though so there might be more about vibes in the future. All in all an amazing resource which also offers some easy navigation through the table of contents on the left." |
61 | Plonk It Guide - USA | Plonk It team | Document (1 h read) | The Plonk It Guide is put together by some very experienced players. It's currently still WIP but already has a lot of countries covered. For every country there are many tips to identify it and regionguess within it. The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. However, the US guide is very extensive and goes through all sorts of clues. "Just as mistystar's document a perfect resource with pretty much every important clue you could ask for. For someone who just starts out learning the US the Plonk It Guide is probably a little more accessible while the guide above goes a little more into detail on a few things. I especially really love how plates are taught here. Both docs are very worth checking out when you want to get better at this huge country though."
62 | US Geoguessr Tips | @chicagogeographer | Video guide (59 min) | Four videos on a lot of the most important clues. Includes one video on plates and one on state highways. These guides take an hour to watch but that's very helpful if you don't know much about US state specific clues yet."
63 | US Comprehensive Cheat Sheet | @rumilb | List | A huge table listing all kind of useful clues for each state, such as the flag, plate, state route sign and more. 65 | Highway pavement markers | @z4ar | Infographic | Outlines the differences in pavement markers across the country. "Super underrated meta. I feel like barely anyone uses this although it shows up very often and can be helpful in many scenarios. The few regions of the most common designs are easy to learn. Lets you split the country in a few parts just like front plates but better. This will show up more often, is easier to recognize and pavement markers don't travel. Very recommended to learn."

So this is great if you want to compare plates in certain regions of the country."

73 | All Eyes On The US | @l.upus @callmeoceanman @chicagogeographer | Video guide (48 min) | In his video series "All Eyes On" Lupus invites players that are known to be very good at a certain country and plays through some seeds in that country to learn from his guests. The videos are the edited highlights of the longer streams and include the most important tips that were covered. The video series only lasted for a few episodes and therefore only covers a handful of countries. For the US episode CallMeTheOceanMan and Chicago Geographer were the experts. "Made by myself. A bunch of the tips in this will be found in previous resources as well. This video shows some actual gameplay pointing out clues along the way if you look for something like that. Also, I think I do a decent job at asking a lot of the questions you might have when trying to get into the US. So this is definitely a decent resource for starting to learn this country."
74 | US State-Specific Clues | @chicagogeographer | List | A list of all clues included in Chicago Geographer's map "US State-Specific Clues" (link included on top of the list). "This list itself isn't very useful but the map is a great way to get used to some of the most common clues. 82 | Distribution of select US crops | Unknown | Infographic | description will be added in the future
83 | Blurred license plates | @hwzt | Infographic | Shows how license plates look when blurred. "This is quite helpful if you want to get used to blurred plates. Note that these are not images actually taken from street view but rather images that were blurred in a graphics software so they are not always very similar to how they will show up ingame. From my experience it is still a good idea to learn plates using these images instead of unblurred plates. For learning plates also check the Plonk It Guide which also includes blurred plates which are additionally sorted by how easy they are to recognize."
84 | USA State Bridge Metas | @evknight4444 | Document (10 min read) | Research on useful or state specific guardrails on bridges. "Has a couple of good clues. As smudge metas are often not 100% reliable or it can be difficult to differentiate them, this one is more recommended if you already have a decent understanding of how different parts of Australia look. Smudges show up quite often though, especially in gen 2, so it's definitely worth knowing about them (if you are into this kind of stuff)."
10 | 5 Secret Australia Tips/Meta | @willywoxy | Video guide (5 min) | Five tips that aren't really commonly known but can still be applied decently often. "Worth giving this a watch for some extra hints as an addition to the Definitive or Plonk It Guide."

"It's a good idea to know how to tell these roads apart. One more way to tell them apart can be found on the smudge document above. Decide for yourself which method you want to use."

This guide takes more effort by yourself to work out differences in some designs and the explanations are shorter. Still, I have to say I absolutely love how this guide is made with a very smart way of navigating through it. The last slide is very much recommended to study, too. The Plonk It Guide usually focuses on the most high yield metas. So while it often isn't the most detailed resource, you will always find the fundamentals in it. The Brazil regionguessing section is very extensive though. "This all you need unless you want to dive into Brazil very deep. Has a ton of regional clues from landscape over vegetation and architecture to poles and other urban meta. A great summary of all the resources below. The only thing I'm a bit sceptical about is the map about gen 4 car colors. Other resources indicate that it might not be 100% accurate as there are a few discrepancies. This is the most up-to-date research though and the method was also pretty extensive so it should be mostly reliable. Either way by far the most important resource to learn about regionguessing this huge country." |
27 | Brazil Urban Metas | @cheddarman | Slideshow (20 min read) | A detailed documentation about many metas to identify a lot of the biggest cities in Brazil (mostly state capitals). You won't be able to remember all of the information at once. The section in the beginning is about the most high yield stuff which is a good idea to look at at least. It is also included in the Plonk It Guide already though. If you want to dive into this more deeply, it probably makes sense to practice on the city streak map (linked in the video description of the 25 streak) and pick up more and more clues of the clues provided while doing that."

Nontheless this is a decent resource for studying poles but you definitely have to do a bit of work yourself to figure everything out, filter what's the most important and understand what some things mean ("balls" are the bird nests on the poles, getting that took me way too long).
