Now that we have about a week of experience with the DLP, how are you feeling about distance learning?
From your perspective, which components of the DLP have gone really well?
Transitioning to the DLP has been hard for some students. One challenge may be losing connection time with other people. What might be some ways that we can keep our students connected and feeling like a community?
From a teacher's point of view, how is the current schedule working for you? Please consider that we will be reaching out to parents to get their input as well. The feedback that we get from our teachers is very important.
Synchronous and asynchronous sessions can look different for each teacher. How would you describe what the majority of your synchronous sessions look like?
If other, please describe:
How would you describe the majority of your asynchronous sessions? Please check all that apply.
If other, please describe:
In general, how much time per day would you estimate your asynchronous work should take for students to complete?
In one sentence tell us, what is one thing you wish your leadership team knew about your experience with synchronous and asynchronous sessions?
Curriculum Planning: Thinking about your curriculum and adjustments that may need to be made to adapt to distance learning, what questions come to mind?
How comfortable do you feel making these decisions and/or adjustments on your own?
If uncomfortable, how would you like to receive help?
Instructional Delivery: How can we continue to support you so that you are most effective in a digital classroom? Please check all that apply.
Assessments: Considering that we may be using distance learning for awhile, what might be some ways that we can help support you in building assessments that are authentic evaluations of what your students are learning? Please check all that apply.
Assessments: If you marked "other" in the previous question, please describe what would help support your efforts in creating assessments within a distance learning context.
Are there any new skills, resources, or platforms that you have discovered and that you feel would benefit your colleagues?
If yes or maybe, please describe the skill, resource, or platform:
Would you be willing to share a taped synchronous session to be used for peer professional development?
If so, what areas would you like to highlight (i.e. delivery, tone of voice, clarity, online tool supports, lesson design, interactive aspects, other, etc).

I'm feeling good. I was using digital tools in my classes at school, so the transition has been fine.
Virtual lessons have been going pretty well since the first day.
That’s a question for the students.
It’s a lot of work to give written feedback all of the time. I am spending too much time in front of a screen everyday.

Right now I am not comfortable enough to do this. Maybe later in the year. It’s too soon, we’re all just trying to get the hang of it from what I heard at the meeting today.

Continuing to have Morning Meeting helps students be connected. I am interested in eliminating the second meeting of the day and instead doing small group check-ins.

I think ES teachers value the first live session with their students and having flexibility right now.
Several grade levels have expressed that the second live session feels less purposeful. Many feel that scheduling groups and conferences during that time would be more meaningful for kids and would provide more feelings of connection.
As a coach in three sections, it's been easier for me to work with teachers in the PS and ES sections, and the schedule allows for it. I think the MS/HS schedule is intense and does not make the best use of the potential for asynchronous learning (which would lend itself to more collaboration)
As a coach, I'm hearing that a lot of grade levels feel the second synchronous session feels less useful
I did above. I think teachers would value holding small groups during that time (the 2nd live session), with the exception of 5th grade. 5th grade is departmentalized, so they each see a different class during those times.
Teachers feel like the message from admin in all sections has been to produce videos as often as possible. They're also saying that it takes a lot of time to plan, film, and edit. I think videos can play a useful role in distance learning, but expectations of time and intensity must be realistic.
I did above. 20-30 minutes
Go easy on the video expectations. And keep curricular expectations flexible, adaptable, and manageable.
What validity to grades even hold any more? Is there any point, beyond narrative/comments, to entering numerical grades into Phidias?

I think, as our SBG experts in the field have made clear, that assessment should be viewed more formatively now than ever, and that grading should be narrative/comments. I do not think that numerical grades (4-3-2-1) hold validity in this environment given the amount of restrictions and variables present, not to mention the extremely high stress level that teachers, parents, and students are under.

I continue to share literacy-related platforms with the team and parents, little by little. There is so much out there, so I'm not going to pester or overwhelm anyone at this point. But I'll gradually continue to share as I make cool finds.

Honestly, I'm just figuring out distance learning along with most of the team. I can model vulnerability, of course, but I think there are teachers on the team who can model this far better than I can right now, and asking teachers to be even more vulnerable than they already feel right now feels excessive and unnecessary at the moment.

I like having the synchronous session in the morning to set kids up for the day.
I think that's a question for the kids. They have lived their entire lives with social media and multiple ways to connect, unlike us, so this might not be affecting them the way it affects us older people that aren't as virutally connected.

I do now that the whole group sessions do not create community because you have to do one by one responses. Having smaller rotating groups could be more effective.
I think the schedule could be improved to provide equity in teaching. If the specialists had 1 day a week for each grade, they could then have 2 half hour sychronous sessions per day for that grade level (basically 1 per class with a spliting of the third class) and the rest of the day to plan. Spanish could then have 1 sychronous session per day with a different class. Homeroom teachers could have the whole group synchronous sessions in the morning as ususal, and then grouped check ins scheduled during that second time to give more intention feedback than in a large group setting.

That many of us don't understand the purpose of having the specialist in the chat with us. Half the time no one is there and when they are, it does not add to the discussion. I don't think it is a effective use of their time, when they could be doing their own synchorous session that are more valuable and enriching.
It's a statement, not a question. This is a great time to start PBL work.

Continue with synchronous sessions. Counselors can do small group meetings with certain frequency to talk about how they´re feeling ,etc.

I suggest that teachers spend time, within their morning routine, supporting students in organizing their daily work. This is a great opportunity to teach study habits and organization skills. I think that the hardest thing for students has been managing their asynchronous time and organizing their daily assignments.
This part of the year we usually work on the Proyecto de Vida. It requires a lot of work and self-reflection. At this point I feel that students might feel overwhelmed. I will be working with values and technology to find strategies to still work on the project but still

Google Classroom is one of the components that makes distance learning easy for teachers, students, and parents to follow. Zearn has also been a huge success with our distance learning program. It is a program that students are familiar with, they've had daily practice with it from the beginning of the year, they get instant feedback with the skills they're learning which they subsequently apply to their assignments.
I've been in touch with several people, who have elementary-aged children, in my family and circle of friends (in the US, here in Colombia, Argentina, and Spain). And basically they are overwhelmed with schoolwork. They just wish to spend enjoyable time with their families.

I enjoy seeing my students each day. They have done well showing up for our synchronous sessions. They ask a million questions but are finally learning to trust that they actually do understand what they are doing and what my expectations are. I have only had a few questions from parents which is surprising. I feel like I have enough time to prepare my assignments. I think it has been a smoother transition for my students because we were already using digital learning in my classroom each day. I have enjoyed meeting with various students individually in Google Meet to provide extra support in Math. Being departmentalized has also been helpful. I introduce the day's assignments, model the previous day's Exit Ticket so that students can grade their own independently, go over correct answers from our quizzes, answer lots of questions about everything, ask how students are doing, allow time for Specialist to answer questions, ask various students and/or specialists to share their talent, and allow students to stay after to ask additional questions or receive extra help.
Independent Practice Problems/Worksheets, Instructional videos, Online interactive activities, Ongoing projects
30-45 minutes
I would like more time to meet with small groups.
What are the expectations from Admin regarding assessment and grades?

Occasional "tips and tricks" for the apps that we are already using.
I feel good about my assessments. I know how to create evaluations, performance tasks, and projects so that students are producing original artifacts and sharing them digitally. My assessments provide me with a clear understanding of what my students know/can do.

I'm feeling good. I was using digital tools in my classes at school, so the transition has been fine.
I'm still adjusting, but it's working for me.
Direct Instruction via Google Meet Screen Share or other, Checking student understanding for material learned in previous asynchronous session
Online interactive activities, Revisar tareas y correos
Revisando actividades asignadas y enviando reporte a los padres.
30-45 minutes
¿ Cómo ayudarlos a avanzar?

Live PD session led by other teachers
Continued Professional Learning opportunities for G-Suite, Google Meet, Calendar, and Google Classroom, Occasional "tips and tricks" for the apps that we are already using., Access to additional instructional resources on-line (textbook, pdf copies of texts, etc)
I need a few more ideas. I could use someone to talk through what I'm teaching to come up with an authentic assessment that would work in a digital environment., I could use help with setting up grading criteria for different types of assessments in a digital form.
MAYBEMAYBE
