| Title | Score | Sub Genre | Decade | Summary | Review | Score Guide:
| 13 Ghosts (1960) | 4/5 | Haunting | 60s | A poor family inherits an old mansion that is haunted by 13 ghosts. The family decides to take on the ghosts in order to find a fortune hidden within the mansion's grounds. A William Castle movie. | A simple albeit fun haunted house movie. While the effects are very dated, they don't detract from the movie's charm - only add to it. The cast is charasmatic to boot as well. More of a mystery movie than horror.
| 1408 (2007) | 5/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | Horror author Mike Enslin decides to visit the Dolphin Hotel to stay a night at the infamous room 1408 - a room that is supposedly evil incarnate. Adapted from a short story by Stephen King. | What if "The Shining" took place in a single room instead of a hotel? Surprisingly really good; playing on the notion of what is real and what isn't very well. Loved the fact that 1408 itself felt like an actual character instead of a simple set piece. Well paced with a strong opening and a satisfying ending. Very pleased with how this turned out. | 0: Horrible: Nothing of value. Bad production from start to finish. 1: Watchable: Does one or two things right; gore, makeup, storyline, etc.; but still very rough and can be tough to get through. 2: Not Bad, Not Great: Has unique ideas and concepts but may disappoint in other areas. Worth a view to judge for yourself. 3. Good: Does a lot of things right and is very watchable. May fall flat here or there but still a good watch. 4. Great! Has a good storyline, well acted, fun ideas, and engaging from start to finish. Should totally give it a chance! 5. Fantastic! Hits the nail in all areas - acting, atmosphere, production value, and scares!
| 2000 Maniacs (1964) | 3/5 | Torture | 60s | Pleasant Valley was a small town whose residents were brutally slaughtered during the Civil War. Every 100 years, the 2000 citizens come back from the dead in order to extract their revenge on the Yankees they lure into town. | Despite the rough audio and music that is too loud, the movie is very entertaining. One of the first "Southern Gore Films" that paved the way for Texas Chainsaw and other movies.
| 2001 Maniacs (2005) | 3/5 | Torture | 2000s | College students incure the wrath of a small southern town who celebrate their "Guts and Glory Jubilee" by hunting down and butchering Yankees. Directed by Tim Sullivan and co-starring Robert Englund and Lin Shaye. A remake of 1964's Two Thousand Maniacs! | A fun "splat-stick" horror comedy. The kills are creative, the stereotypes over-the-top, and the acting entertaining. Robert and Lin are clearly enjoying themselves as they chew up the scenery.
| 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams (2010) | 1/5 | Torture | 2010s | The "Guts and Glory Jubilee" is lacking in Yanks to kill. So the mayor (Played by Bill Mosely this time) decides to take the town on the road. They end up on a Paris Hilton-style reality show and use the cast and crew as their annual sacrifice. | Movie has a shoe-string budget and it shows. The ADR is distractingly bad, the kills mostly off screen and mediocre, and the characters painfully annoying. Bill Mosely and Lin Shaye do their best with what they are given but it's still not enough to justify this movie.
| 21 days (2014) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Three friends spend 21 days in haunted house while recording their findings. Tensions rise as they turn against each other as the hauntings grow more serious. | Very generic from start to finish. The acting is not half bad and it has the usual found footage scares but just does nothing new for the genre nor is it interesting enough to warrant multiple watches.
| 3 From Hell (2019) | 3/5 | Torture | 2010s | The Firefly Family (Sid Haig, Sherri Moon Zombie, and Bill Mosely) survived their shootout and are put on trial. When Otis and Baby escape, they flee to Mexico with Otis's half-brother Coltrane (Richard Brake). There they face off against a carel boss who seeks revenge for the death of his son at the Firefly's hand. Sid Haig's Final Role. | 3 From Hell feels like it should have been the 2nd film of the Firefly trilogy as opposed to the final film. Bill and Sherri continue to nail their Firefly personas and Richard Brake is a great addition to the movie. While not as strong as Devil's Rejects, 3 From Hell is still entertaining.
| 30 days of Night (2007) | 3/5 | Vampire | 2000s | A small town in Alaska prepares for the "30 days of night" - a time in winter with a month long polar night. What they don't realize is that a pack of vicious vampires have decided to use this time to feed upon the townsfolk. | Unapologetically violent and ruthless. The vampires are almost feral in nature with their brutality as they no longer have to fear the sunlight and can hunt for as long as they want. Has some moments of slowdown that hurts the pacing but overall is a solid vampire movie.
| 31 (2016) | 2/5 | Torture | 2010s | Five carnival workers are kidnapped by a trio of rich sadists who intend to use them for entertainment. The workers must fight against the sadists' champions in a battle royale where only the strongest come out alive. Written and Directed by Rob Zombie. | The movie's only real strength are the designs of the killers. The "Heads" - a group of sadistic clowns - are very creative in both looks and personality. Unfortunately everything else just falls flat - especially during the third act.
| 8213:Gacy House (2010) | 1/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Paranormal investigators spend the night at serial killer John Wayne Gacy's home in hopes of summoning the spirit of Gacy. An Asylum Film. | Things go bang then the group spend minutes yelling over each other. Rinse. Repeat. Nothing of substance happens. Movie literally waits until the last 9 minutes before anything happens and when it did, we cannot see anything. Horrible Ending.
| 976-EVIL (1988) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 80s | Introverted nerd Hoax discovers a strange phone-number that provides "Horror-Scopes" - creepy themed fortunes. The fortunes start coming true; providing Hoax with his deepest desires at the cost of his mortal soul. Directed by Robert Englund. | Just oozes with 80's cheese. The one-liners, the gore, the silliness of the overall concept; 976-Evil is an entertaining romp that is best enjoyed when not taken seriously. Always a fun watch.
| A Cat in the Brain (1990) | 2/5 | Thriller | 90s | A serial killer models his murders off the movies of Italian Horror Director Lucio Fulci (Playing himself). Lucio, on the other hand, is suffering from his own delusions caused by the violence protrayed in his movies. Showcases clips from several different Fulci films throughout the movie. | The concept behind the movie is fascinating. Can be argued that this inspired ideas like New Nightmare and Scream. Lucio is great at playing a tortured version of himself and as per usual, the gore and make-up is beyond reproach. However the constant flashbacks - using clips from other movies - are so frequent that it bogs the movie down to a horribly dull snail's pace.
| ABC's of Death 1 (2012) | 1/5 | Anthology | 2010s | 26 tales with each one based off a letter of the alphabet. Has such "classics" as F is for Fart. | Just terrible. The tone is all over the place and a lot of the shorts couldn't be classified as "scary" or "horror". Feels like there was no true direction given to the writers of each short film. Some gems in this but not enough to justify watching the entire anthology.
| ABC's Of Death 2 (2014) | 4/5 | Anthology | 2010s | A series of short films, each one based off a different letter of the Alphabet. The VASTLY superior sequel to ABCS of Death. | Has some of the most creative and twisted short stories seen in an Anthology. "Z" is easily one of the most horrific and morbid things I have ever seen in a scary movie. Highly recommend!
| Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter | 3/5 | Vampire | 2010s | The secret life of Abraham Lincoln who was, in fact, a vampire hunter. Details the life of Lincoln as he seeks out and destroys vampires who wish to use the South as their personal hunting ground. | A bizarre concept that somehow works. While the CGI has not aged well and the idea hard to swallow - the movie is full of absurd, over-the-top action that is quite fun to watch. May not be a classic, but is never boring.
| Absurd (1981) | 2/5 | Slasher | 80s | The church experiments on a man to give him a healing factor. When the man goes insane, the Vatican sends a priest to hunt the lunatic down before his body count increases. | The kills are the highlight of the movie. The music is really fun to listen too but sometimes does not match what we are seeing. Slow paced in the middle and forgets its main cast 2/3rds into the movie to become a generic home-invasion slasher film. Would recommend 1 viewing for the ending scene alone!
| AfterDeath (2015) | 1/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Five young people wash up on a beach only to discover that they are, in fact, in Purgatory. They hope to find salvation through strange paintings hidden inside of a beach house. | Forgettable storyline, forgettable cast, forgettable concept. Some interesting visuals here and there but overall a bland attempt at a thriller.
| All Cheerleaders Die (2014) | 3/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | Football players run a bunch of cheerleaders off the side of the road. A Wiccan classmate uses crystals to bring the cheerleaders back to life. Now they plan their revenge against the football players while also trying to understand their new powers. | One part Jennifer's Body, one part The Craft. Tom Williamson plays a fantasically disgusting villain. Good kills, good premise, and fast paced. Overall not bad and quite entertaining. The ending is rather sudden however.
| All Hallows Eve (2013) | 2/5 | Anthology | 2010s | A young boy is given a VHS tape during Halloween and insists the he, his sister, and his babysitter sit down and watch it. What they witness are three terrifying tales of Satanism, Aliens, and serial killers - with Art the Clown being the central theme to each of these stories. | Less of an anthology and more of a way to distribute the origin shorts of Art the Clown. The middle story being an original work, the other two being the low-budget Art the Clown films. Acting, effects, and the stories themselves are a bit rough with the finale being the strongest portion of the film.
| Alone in a Ghost House (2015) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Four friends decide to spend the night at an old artist commune where a mass murder took place. They hope to catch some sort of supernatural evidence on camera for an internet series they hope to make. What they find instead though is much more frightening. | There is not a lot of tension throughout this movie - as the haunting segment starts at the last 20 minutes of the film. But the characters are interesting for the most part despite the camera man being used mostly to hit on women for an hour and a half. The twist at the end makes the movie worth seeing at least once, even if the acting takes a nose dive during.
| Alone in the Dark (2005) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | A supernatural investigator tries to stop ancient demons from destroying the world. An Uwe Boll film based off the video game. | If this movie was a spice, it would be flour. The acting is non-existant, the action nothing but shakey cams and tons of cuts, and most of the movie is too dark to see anything. Still better than House of the Dead though.
| Alphabet Killer (2008) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2000s | A Detective tries to solve a series of murders that focus on girls whose first and last names have the same first letter. Loosely based off a real killer. | Well acted and shot but lacks tension. Frustrating in some scenes. MC's hallucinations look terrible. Bland ending. Good use of red herrings. Some may like it but personally found it dull.
| Altar (2016) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | A small college reunion in the woods results in paranoia and terror as the group's car breaks down leaving them in the middle of nowhere near a demonic altar. | Was very surprised at the quality! The main character (Bo) protrays someone with aspbergers wonderfully and generates a real sense of sympathy and empathy. The cast works well enough making them a believable group of friends and the suspense builds up with a good slow burn. Scares mostly happen at the last 20 minutes and the villain is a bit too over the top. Also first 10 minutes is VERY rough but worth a watch either way.
| Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story (2015) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | A small town news crew discover several home-video tapes of a family that went missing. Upon watching them, they inadvertently summon a demonic figure that starts hunting them down. Based off the Youtube series Marble Hornets and is about Slenderman. | Unlikable characters mean we do not really have anyone to root for. Has a strange B-story involving one of the characters stalking another for no reason that gets dropped after the halfway mark. Some good moments with Slenderman being hidden just off camera but overall falls short and is not scary. Watch the YT series instead.
| American Gothic (1988) | 4/5 | Slasher | 80s | A group of young adults end up stranded on an island. There they run into a family of psychopaths who still act like it's the 1920s. | Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Cast Away. The deranged family can be quite uncomfortable to watch - with grown adults acting as young children and a total disregard for anything modern. Creative kills, some legit disturbing moments, and a very satisfying ending. Very enjoyable!
| American Guinea Pig: Sacrifice (2017) [Read Review] *** | 0/5 | Torture | 2010s | A guilt-ridden man undergoes a ritural to summon a goddess. The ritual involves extreme self mutilation. [WARNING: EXTREME GENITAL AND BODY MUTILATION] | Don't know how to rate this movie. It's strictly Torture Porn with little to no story. The make-up and effects are stomach-churning and grotesque with its realism. In terms of the practical effects and shock horror - this is a 5/5. In terms of story and being an actual movie with a plot - 0/5
| Amityville: Dollhouse (1996) | 2/5 | Haunting | 90s | An Amityville replica Dollhouse is given to a little girl. Good news! It is complete in box - ghosts included! Things that happen in this dollhouse end up transferring into the real world as well. | Acting is decent enough and some of the concepts are unique and interesting. Just does not land on the story or characters. Feels a lot longer than it really is. Some moments are somewhat interesting but it really should have been a Creepshow episode than a full movie.
| Amusement (2008) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A laughing man hunts down three girls in 3 different scenarios in order to torture them. | First two stories were pretty fun. Decent enough kills. Gets a bit dull by the end. Nothing worth coming back for. Honestly, it is quite forgettable in the long run.
| An American Werewolf in London (1981) | 3/5 | Werewolf | 80s | Two American backpackers, David Kesller and Jack Goodman are attacked by a werewolf while travelling through the moores of Yorkshire. Having survived the attack, David finds himself a victim of the werewolfs curse and is doomed to become one during the next full moon. | Perfectly blends lighthearted and silly humor with the horror and violence. While a bit dated, they still hold up as some of the best werewolf transformation effects ever filmed. Ending is quite abrupt. Still entertaining to this day.
| Anna (2017) | 0/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Two men steal a haunted doll from a paranormal musuem in order to attempt to catch its' hauntings on camera. What they get instead, however, is a doll that can open the gateway to Hell. | Amatuer production with bad audio, out of focus shots, shaky cameras, horrible lighting, and terrible set designs. Wastes a lot of time on badly written "humor". The few decent parts are shot in near total darkness making it impossible to see.
| AntiChrist (2009) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2000s | A married couple go on a downward spiral after the death of their son. The husband, a former psychiatrist, takes his grieving wife to their cabin in the woods in order to help her with her depression. He soon realizes there is a lot more going on than mere depression but by that time it may be too late to save her. Starring Willam Dafoe & Charlotte Gainsbourg. Directed by Lars Von Trier. | The movie feels like voyerism into an awful situation between husband and wife. Uncomfortable and tense with superb acting, cinematrophy, and symbolism. A dark look into depression and self-loathing that might not be for everyone. **Warning, some genital violence**
| Antrum (2018) | 3/5 | Fake Documentary | 2010s | A documentary about a cursed movie. Supposedly this movie kills anyone who watches it. The movie is about a young boy and his teenager sister who are trying to dig a hole into hell. The first half of the movie is the documentary and the second half is the movie Antrum itself. | Very interesting concept. Strewn all throughout the Antrum part of the film are hidden messages, flashes of occult symbolism, and strange phenonenom that only adds to the atmosphere. Has some very creepy moments and takes a good eerie turn near the end. Worth a watch.
| Apartment 413 (2019) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Marco is in desperate need for a job. His girlfriend is pregnant and he wants to support her and his new baby the best he can. As the stress and anxiety grows, Marco begins questioning everything around him - from his girlfriend's loyality to his very existance. | A minimalistic psychological horror. With few cast members and even fewer locations, Apartment 413 nails the claustrophobia and anxiety that Marco is feeling. Ever the unreliable narrator, Marco's spiral into depression leads us into a world where we must question everything that we see. Well paced with likable characters, this was a pleasant surprise.
| April Fool's Day (2008) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A group of rich friends pull an April Fool's prank that accidentally ends with someone's death. One year later, a mysterious person claims to know the truth behind the prank and threatens to kill the friends unless one of them confesses the truth. | April Fool's Day suffers from bland, generic "rich bitch" characters and a predictable storyline. The acting is decent but it lacks any real suspense. Can see the ending a mile away.
| Arachnophobia (1990) | 4/5 | Creature | 90s | A new species of jungle spider ends up in a small town where it reproduces super aggressive offspring. | Makes your skin crawl thanks to the use of real-life spiders throughout the entire movie. Likable characters, well paced, with some legit suspense and humor strewn throughout. Who knew you could have an action sequence against a spider?
| Are You in the House Alone (1978) | 3/5 | Thriller | 70s | A 17 year old girl is stalked by a mysterious person who keeps harassing her via letters and phonecalls. Made for TV movie. | Movie starts off rather slow with some of the suspense feeling lackluster but picks up during the start of the 3rd act. Depicts the realism of the trauma rape victims go through - from victim blaiming to denial. Wouldn’t say it's a great movie - the pacing really hurts it - but gets its point across in a disturbing way. The ending is unfortunately very abrupt as if they ran out of time.
| Army of Darkness (1992) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 90s | After the events of Evil Dead II, Ashley Williams finds himself battling evil in medieval times. He must seek out the Necronomican while facing off against Deadites, demons, and his evil doppleganger. | Takes the humor and camp from Evil Dead II and dials it up to 100. Bruce Campbell is on top of his slapstick/narcissistic game here and this is the movie that sets up the definitive version of Ash. The silliness can be a bit too cartoony at times and it's highly recommended to watch the Uncut version for best experience.
| Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. (1978) | 2/5 | Monster | 70s | Tomatoes turn against humanity. The United States government must now wage war against this dangerous fruit. | This parody of monster movies is amusing for its absurdity but the novelity wears thin fast. It's worth watching for B-movie fans but does not really hold enough water to warrant several viewings.
| Autopsy (1975) | 2/5 | Thriller | 70s | During a series of mass suicides, a woman is found dead on the beach. Believed to be a murder disguised as a suicide, a young doctor and a priest try to find the truth. | A murder mystery that is very bizarre. Not 100% sure what to make of this movie. Good makeup, good gore, and interesting deaths but also a bit confusing and muddled. People may enjoy it for its weirdness. Recommend it to be seen at least once to decide for yourself.
| Await Further Instructions (2018) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | A family wakes up trapt inside their house by an unknown entity. They are given very explicit instructions on the TV with the warning to obey without question if they want to survive. | Neat concept. Despicable characters. Insane ending. Really fun special effects at the end. If anything, it keeps your eyes glued to the screen to see what happens next. Some odd plot holes here and there though.
| Bad Taste (1987) | 2/5 | Splatter | 80s | Government agents hunt down aliens who want to use human meat in their intergalatic restaraunts. Directed by Peter Jackson. | The plot is non-existant. The majority of the movie consists of chase scenes or shoot-outs at a mansion. However, it is oddly entertaining thanks to it's over-the-top violence, practical effects, and stupid humor. Worth a watch.
| Be My Cat: A Film for Ann (2015) | 4/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | A disturbed Romanian man obsessed with Anne Hathaway makes a film explaining why she should be in his latest movie 'Be My Cat'. | Uncomfortable and twisted. The main character slips into his obsession and psychotic behavior seemlessly. No over-the-top acting - everything is kept realistic which adds to the tension. Ending may make or break the movie for some but still very gripping.
| Before Someone Gets Hurt (2018) | 2/5 | Haunting | 2010s | Paranormal debunkers spend the night in a house where several alleged murders occurred. They soon discover that the home belonged to a local cult who was fixated on returning Lucifer back to Heaven. | Decent enough idea and refreshing to see how the kills happened in real time. While the characters have some good moments, they are too unlikable to root for. Too many reliance on practical jokes/fakeouts that kill the tension. Very unsatisfying conclusion.
| Ben (1972) | 4/5 | Creature | 70s | A Sequel to WILLARD (1971) that takes place immediately after the first movie. Super intelligent rat Ben meets a young sick boy who befriends Ben and decides to keep him safe from the police and exterminators. But things get out of hand when the boy is unable to keep Ben and the legion of rats under control. | A fun reminder of what it was like using real trained animals on set - Ben the Rat being a joy to watch. The child main character does a great job with his role and you believe his friendship with this rat. Most intense Man Vs Rat finale ever!
| Beyond the Darkness (1979) | 3/5 | Thriller | 70s | After the death of his fiance, an embalmer becomes obsessed with perserving his wife's corpse while also murdering any woman who arouses him. His housekeeper uses his broken mental state to take advantage of him and his body. Italian Horror - same director as Absurd. | Some great practical makeup and gore. The story is a little slow but also very bizarre - a strange combination of erotica and horror. Feels a bit like Psycho with the main character's obsession with his dead fiance's body. Keeps you invested.
| Bigfoot: The Lose Case Tapes (2012) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | A small film crew wants to interview someone who supposedly owns the corpse of a real life Bigfoot. When they get to the secluded cabin, they are attacked by something that could, or could not be, a Bigfoot. | Had a lot of good ideas but was just too afraid to show the monster until the end. Could have been much better if given more clues to what was really going on. Just did not have a good enough payoff at the end.
| Bite (2015) | 2/5 | Infection | 2010s | A woman is bitten by a strange insect while partying with friends. She begins to transform into an insect-human hybrid that hungers for human flesh. | The acting and dialogue can be rough but the real seller is the body-horror and makeup. A great showcase of disgusting practical effects even if the characters are a bit bland and unlikable.
| Blade (1998) | 3/5 | Vampire | 90s | A vampire hunter (Wesley Snipes) seeks to take down an evil vampire organization before they are able to ressurect their vampire god. | 90's schlock in all the right places. Wesley Snipes may be the perfect Blade but Stephen Norrington and Donal Logue as the primary villains are just as entertaining. It's cheesey, funny, and violent. As long as you don't take this seriously, you will have a great time.
| Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows (2000) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | Several cliches are fascinated with the Blair Witch movie so they go on a tour of the Black Hills where the movie takes place. Paranoia and suspicions begin to set in after their equipment and research are trashed leaving the group at one another's throats. | The first half of the movie feels a bit jarring thanks to the quick sudden editing to different scenes. Really starts picking up steam in the second half with a pretty neat twist near the end. Ends rather abruptly though.
| Blair Witch Project (1999) | 4/5 | Found Footage | 90s | Three college students head off into the woods to make a documentery about the "Blair Witch". While in the forest, they begin experiencing eerie phenomena that push their sanity to their limits. | Less about the paranormal experience and more about the dissolution of the group's dynamic. The tension comes mostly from the three growing more and more paranoid, angry, and spiteful as time goes on. Satisfying, well paced, and holds up to this day.
| Blood Clots (2018) | 3/5 | Anthology | 2010s | 7 short stories that include cannibals, werewolves, killer jellyfish, a cthulhu dinner guest, zombies, a woman trapt in a cellar, and a monster in the basement. | The stories that work, work well. Those that don’t are short enough so not to distract from the rest of the movie. None of the stories overstay their welcome. Decent enough for a one-time viewing Particularly like the premise for the Zombie story and the Dinner Guest which had some fantastic practical effects.
| Blood Creek (2008) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | In 1936 the Nazis sent a professor who specalizes in the occult to study Viking runes in a small West Virginia town. It is there he discovers the key to not only immortality, but ressurection as well. In the present day, one of his victims escapes only to return with his brother to put a stop to the professor's madness. Directed by Joel Schumacher and starring Henry Cavill and Micheal Fassbender. | Great use of practical effects. Love the idea of using dead people and animals as undead slaves. The action is intense, on point, and easy to follow for the most part. Some of the editing is a bit jarring and there are a lot of visually dark scenes. Otherwise, a fun ride.
| BloodRayne (2006) | 0/5 | Vampire | 2000s | A vampire seeks revenge against the father that betrayed her. "Based" off the game of the same name. Directed by UWE BOLL | The movie lacks effort and passion by all those involved. The cast are obviously phoning in their performances. The editing is all over the place, the cinematography cheap, and the title character bland and boring. Despite so many things happening on screen, the movie drags on painfully slow and is an absolute chore to get through. WHY ARE THE VAMPIRES SO WEAK?!?!?!
| Bloodsucking Bastards (2015) | 3/5 | Vampire | 2010s | A telemarketing company is turned on its head when their new sales manager (Pedro Pascal) turns out to be a vampire. | It's Office Space/The Office meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That's it. The humor really shines during the final 30 minutes. Delivers exactly on what it promises.
| Body Bags (1993) | 3/5 | Anthology | 90s | John Carpenter's horror anthology. The first story is about a serial killer hiding at a gas station, the second involves a hair transplant that goes terribly wrong, and the third is about an eye transplant that turns its host into a serial killer. | Each film is quite fun to watch but feels like it drags a little bit by the third film. Mark Hamill stars in the third story and really steals the show.
| Bone Tomhawk (2015) | 3/5 | Torture | 2010s | A rogue tribe of cannibalistic Native Americans kidnap members of a small town. Now the sheriff, his eldery deputy, a gunslinger gentleman, and an injured husband must travel through the wilderness to save them. Stars Kurt Russel and Patrick Wilson. | While the movie is slow, the interaction between the four main characters is the main selling point. You really get to grow attached to them as they journey to save their friends and family. The sudden violence at the end of the film is very reminiscent of Green Inferno and Cannibal Holocaust. More of a Western than Horror.
| Boogeyman 2 (2007) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A brother and sister witness the brutal murder of their parents; leading both to believe that the killer was the Boogeyman. Years later, the sister to joins a therapy group in hopes of curing her night terrors. During her stay, a mysterious killer begins slaughtering the patients, using their mental disorders as a way to dispose of them. Co-starring Tobin Bell | This movie is baerly connected to the first which is a good thing. It is a solid slasher film with some brutal kills. Isn't anything special but still a fun watch for those who like solid and violent slasher films.
| Book of Monsters (2018) | 2/5 | Monster | 2010s | A shapeshifter sneaks into a girl's 18th birthday party to steal the family's Book of Monsters. It uses the book to summon a wide variety of monsters to slaughter the students in an attempt to take over the world. | There is something here. If given better direction and budget, this could have been a Monster version of Evil Dead 2. Feels like the start of a fun "Monster of the week" TV series. Though clunky, the monsters were well designed. The kills are beautifully over-the-top despite being very cheap looking. Would recommend 1 viewing to form opinion.
| Brain Dead (1990) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | Dr Martin (Bill Pullman) is asked by a friend (Bill Paxton) to use his study of neuroscience to extract a secret formula from a paranoid scientist's mind. However the process causes Dr. Martin to question his sanity as his grip on reality starts slipping. | A mind-boggling experience thanks to great editing and surreal set designs. Fans of other "Questioning Reality" movies such as Mouth of Madness or Total Recall would really enjoy it. Fast pace and constantly keeps you guessing on what's really going on.
| Brainscan (1994) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | Horror and tech obsessed Micheal discovers an interactive videogame that scans his brain in order to provide him with a unique gaming experience. In the game, Micheal plays a serial killer but soon discovers that his actions have real-world consequences. Starring Edward Furlong. | An entertaining 90's romp full of silly tech, fun concepts, and a good cast. Easily the best character is T. Ryder Smith's The Trickster who steals every scene he's in.
| Bride of Chucky (1998) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | Chucky's former girlfriend Tiffany finds Chucky's remains and ressurects him. After getting into a fight, Chucky kills Tiffany and transfers her soul into another doll. Now they have to hunt down Chucky's old amulet in order to turn human again. | A meta and more humorous take on the classic franchise. Jennifer Tilly is a wonderful addition to the series and she and Brad Dourif have real chemistry as Tiffany and Chuckie. Funny though some may be turned off by the sudden shift into horror comedy.
| Bride of the Re-Animator (1990) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | Herbert West and Dan Cain return home to continue their experiments reanimating the dead. After discovering that he can attach and reanimate different body parts together, West convinces Cain to rebuild Cains deceased fiance from the previous movie. | One of the few horror sequels that lives up to the original. It dials up the insanity by a hundred. Keeps the high quality special effects and over-the-top gore of the first film while adding its own style and madness to the mix.
| BrightBurn (2019) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | A young boy discovers that he is from an alien race that conquers planets. "What is Superman became evil". | Has a few good kills and moments of legit suspense. However the movie's biggest problem is the lack of character development for the young boy. He goes from "good" to "evil" almost immediately. Not bad by any means, but can be seen as a bit disappointing by some.
| Bubba Ho-Tep (2002) | 3/5 | Monster | 2000s | Elderly Elvis and Black JFK Jr need to join forces to stop an ancient mummy from sucking the souls from the residents of an old folks home. | Bruce Campbell nails the look and persona of Elvis. The movie takes itself rather seriously which is where the dry humor really shines. The overall novelty of the idea does start to fade by the third act though and can drag a little bit in the middle.
| C.H.U.D. (1984) | 3/5 | Monster | 80s | Sewer-dwelling homeless have begun disappearing. A detective, reverend, and photographer team up to uncover the truth of these disappearances only to discover a race of cannibalistic mutants. | Classic story of corrupt politicians vs the lower class. Good monster design and really enjoy seeing a young Daniel Stern. Feels like it starts treading water/dragging about halfway through. Does pick back up near the last 15 minutes.
| Cabin Fever (2016) | 2/5 | Infection | 2010s | An remake of the 2005 movie of the same name. Five friends go to a cabin in the woods for a vacation only to be infected by some kind of horrible disease that rots them from the inside out. | The practical effects and gore are top notch but unfortunately they are this movie's only redeeming value. The characters are unlikable, the plot generic, and the decisions ridiculous. An unnecessary remake.
| Cam (2018) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Webcam girl who pushes extremes has her identity stolen by an unknown entity who tries to ruin her life. | Decent concept of the frustrations of identity theft and the cruelty of anonymous people on internet. Lacks real depth in the end.
| Carne the Taco Maker (2014) | 1/5 | Slasher | 2010 | People do not realize that their favorite Taco stand sells human meat. | [WARNING: SHOWS REAL DEAD ANIMALS] Instead of showing the kills, cuts to a real image of an animal in a slaughterhouse. Bad audio, terrible lighting, horrid special effects, and actors who constantly mess up their lines. Obviously inspired by Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1 and 2. Don Taco & his mother are hands down the best characters in the movie.
| Carrie (1976) | 5/5 | Supernatural | 70s | Highschooler Carrie White is relentlessly bullied both at school by her classmates and at home by her religious zealot mother. But when things go horrible wrong at the high school prom, Carrie uses her newly discovered psychic powers to extract her revenge. | Hands down the best Stephen King adaptation to date. There is not one person miscast in this film - with Sissy Spacek is perfect as the awkward and timid Carrie White but the movie's real horror comes from the flawless performance by Piper Laurie who plays Carrie's Mom. Her performance is still frightening to this day.
| Cathy's Curse (1977) | 3/5 | Possession | 70s | A little girl gets possessed by a powerful entity after coming in contact with a creepy doll found in the attic. Now the mother must find a way to stop Cathy before its too late. | Engaging - always wanting to know what happens next. The casual brutality of some of the deaths is quite shocking. Some of the special effects have not aged well and the ending is very sudden. Otherwise, very well done!
| Cell (2016) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | A mysterious cell phone signal causes anyone who hears it to go insane. Now graphic novelist Clay and his companions must figure out the cause of this "techno-virus" and save the ones they love. Based off the novel by Stephen King. | Nothing inherently bad but still comes across as slow and dull. The action sequences are the highlight of the movie. John Cusack and Sam Jackson have great chemistry and work well together. The ending feels tacked on and pointless.
| Chill: The Killing Games (2013) | 1/5 | Slasher | 2010s | In the 80s a group of teens decided to play a "LARP"-style game called CHILL where one pretends to be the killer and others must figure out who it is. But things go wrong when the killer takes his job too seriously. Now, an internet influencer wants to recreate the game and broadcast live on the net. As expected, those involved end up getting killed for real. Supposedly made with a 3,000-8,000$ budget. | Admire the attempt of making a slasher movie with such a micro-budget but still does not make up for the horrible audio quality, the stiff acting, terrible dialogue, and the fact that the movie is nearly 2 hours long. Legit forgot that over half the cast was even in the movie at some parts as they only show up for a few minutes before vanishing until their next scene.. The gore is decent enough but not so much to excuse the agonizingly long and drawn-out story.
| Chompy and the Girls (2021) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 2020s | An estranged father and daughter meet up at the park only to witness a man swallowing a girl whole. | An absurd idea that never wears thin thanks to an interesting premise that keeps you guessing from start to finish. A wonderful example of Low-Budget movie done right. Well acted, well produced, and just well done overall. Highly recommend checking it out.
| Chopping Mall (1986) | 5/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | Mall security robots go on a killer rampage after being struck by lightning. | This is the quinessential 80s B-movie. A kick-ass synth soundtrack, great one-liners, a lot of humor, and fantastic kills. A beautiful snapshot of the 80s mall culture. Thank you. Have a nice day.
| Chrome Skull: Laid to Rest 2 (2011) | 3/5 | Splatter | 2010s | It is revealed the Chromeskull (who survived his injuries from the first movie) is actually the leader of an evil organization. While he begins hunting down a new victim, his second-in-command works to overthrow Chromeskull to take over as the organization's new leader. | Feels cheaper and more low budget than the first moviey. While the story is decent, you are here for the grotesque kills which this movie has in spades. Fantastic practical effects that needs to be seen for any fans of classic makeup.
| City of the Living Dead (1980) | 3/5 | Zombie | 80s | A priest's suicide opens the gates of hell resulting in the dead walking the earth. Now a cop and a medium must join forces to figure out a way to put an end to this madness before it is too late. Directed by Lucio Fulci. | Lucio Fulci just nails it with the practical effects. Hands down has some of the best gore makeup. Overall it is well done from start to finish. Has some odd/pointless moments here and there. The ending is unusual but does not detract from the move as a whole.
| Class of Nuke'em High (1986) | 2/5 | Infection | 80s | A nuclear power plant has been built next to a local highschool. The resulting radiation has begun to leak into the school causing mutations, deaths, and unusual pregnancies. A Troma film. | Despite moments of good humor and gore, the movie lacks any real structure or cohesion. Feels like several small ideas stitched together with lots of filler in between.
| Clown (2016) | 2/5 | Possession | 2010s | A father finds a clown costume and uses it to perform at his kid's birthday party. What he does not know is the costume is made from clown skin! He must find a way to remove it before it turns him into a child-eating clown demon! | Good makeup and overall idea but falls flat in the middle of the movie. Picks up again near the end. A good film to check out at least once but does not really have any lasting appeal overall. Fun kills though.
| Conjuring the Genie (2021) | 2/5 | Fantasy | 2020s | A teenager suffering from the loss of her father accidentally unleashes a cruel Djinn that grants wishes in exchange for your soul. | The Diet coke of Wishmaster. Acting and story are passable. Costumes for the monsters are serviceable but very dated. Would honestly be a good movie for younger audiences as an introduction to horror.
| Cooties (2014) | 3/5 | Infection | 2010s | Infected chicken nuggets turn prepubescent children into blood thirsty monsters. | The movie is pretty funny, well acted, and has some great kills. A fun take on zombies and the infected. Slows down drastically during the final act and unfortunately the joke of zombie kids wears thin by the end of the movie.
| Creature (1985) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | Rival space companies must band together for survival when they uncover an ancient alien creature that can control human bodies. | Huge ALIEN vibes mixed with the Thing. Love the aesthetic with the space suits and set designs. Good gore and fun kills (Head explosions are always a plus). The movie unfortunately suffers from being so dark that most the details are lost.
| Creature Cabin (Tarnation) (2017) | 3/5 | Possession | 2010s | After being kicked out of her band, Oscar and her friends decide to go to a remote cabin in the woods for a little R&R. Oscar then learns that she has been "chosen" by a cult that worships a demonic unicorn. She must now fight against zombie kangaroos, human-faced spiders, and her possessed friends while trying to escape. | This movie is dumb. It is pure stupidity and that is what makes it great. It is as if Brain Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Troma films had a baby. The stunts are surprisingly very good, the gore silly and gross, and the comedy surprisingly well done. The ending is a bit much on the stupid scale and the beginnging has some bad audio, but other than that, it is a lot of fun.
| Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) | 5/5 | Monster | 50s | A group of archeologists discover a mysterious fossil in the Amazon. While exploring a nearby lagoon, they come across an ancient 'Gill Man' which they intend to capture and study. | The under water stunts are just spectacular. The way diver Ricou Browning is able to hold his breath and perform without any tanks is nothing short than extraordinary. The inky blackness of the lagoon combined with how still the Creature can be really adds to the suspense. Has aged beautifully.
| CreepShow 3 (2006) | 1/5 | Anthology | 2000s | Light hearted tales of horror and the macbre. Includes a family with a weird "universal remote", a seductive radio, a killer call girl, and more. | The Second short is by far the best with the third being passable. The rest just try way to hard to be silly. The soundtrack is silly and out of place and the acting all over the place. Painfully long final act that really tests your patience.
| CUBE (1997) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | People wake up inside a gigantic structure where every cube-like room is identical. They must try to figure a way out while avoiding deadly traps that lay hidden within the maze. | Before SAW there was CUBE. The set design, traps, and concept all work together to create a rather thrilling and intense ride. The Deaths are memorable and the Cube feels like a living, breathing facility thanks to its rotating rooms and insane traps.
| Cube 2: Hypercube (2002) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2000s | A group of strangers wake up in a a series of sterile white room with doors on every wall. Each room contains deadly traps that seem to bend time, space, and physical boundries. They must find a way to escape before the cube collapses in upon itself. | Whereas the original was gritty and clastraphobic, Hypercube is very stylized and clean. Appreciate that they attempted something different but the dated CGI and sterile enviroments are distracting. Still a good watch for CUBE fans, but not as good as the original.
| Cube Zero (2004) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 2000s | A group of strangers wake up in a series of similar looking rooms wth doors on every wall. With each room they explore, the risk of ending up in a trapped room increases. They are monitored by two men who seem to work for whatever agency created the deadly CUBE. | The more violent "prequel" to the original Cube. Adds some depth to the storyline thanks to the inclusion of two "Company men" who apparently monitor and test the victims inside. A solid addition to the CUBE franchise.
| Cult of Chucky (2017) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Continuing where Curse left off, Chucky breaks into an insane asylum to continue his hunt of Nina, the woman from the previous film. This time he is splitting his soul into multiple Chucky Dolls in the hopes of building a supernatural army. | While not as dark or serious than Curse, Cult continues to ramp up the kills while pushing the Chucky storyline forward. Adds some great twists to the formula that you may or may not like.
| Curse of Chucky (2013) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Chucky is back and hungry for blood! This time he is hunting down a paraplegic woman who has ties to his past. Woe upon those who get in his way. | A wonderful return to form for the long running franchise. After the silliness that was Seed, this is a breath of fresh air as Curse returns to its dark slasher roots. Chucky continues to look great with its practical effects and the kills are all top notch.
| Curse of Humpty Dumpty (2021) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2020s | An elderly woman finds her old childhood doll of Humpty Dumpty at an antique shop. Shortly after bringing it home, however, terrible things begin to happen. Is it all in her head or is there something more sinister at work? | Shockingly VERY well done. Expected to be a cheap, low budget, Syfy channel movie but instead got a very well acted, well paced, and well done thriller. Was not flawless - movie was very dark at some points and could use a bit more clarity for the ending - but overall a pleasant surprise.
| Curse of Sleeping Beauty (2016) | 3/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | A young man inherits a house that comes with a dreadful curse. Guided by his dreams, he and a friend must seek out the truth of the mansion and the "sleeping beauty" who may be hidden within. | Personally found it unique and enjoyable. Liked the haunted mannequins used as the primary scares. Decently acted, decently produced. Uses the tiniest elements of the Sleeping Beauty myth - outside of a few ideas, this is a completely original story.
| Curse of the Scarecrow (2018) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | On the 20th anniversary of her parents' murder, June returns to her family farm to investigate her brother's death. She suspects it may be related to the scarecrow responsible for the death of her parents. | For a no-budget movie, this one is fine. It's well shot, decently edited, and has somewhat interesting characters. However it does end up getting a bit silly by the end with stupid character decisions and slow pacing. Respect it for getting made and being watchable but that's about it.
| Daniel Isn't Real (2019) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2010s | College student Luke suffers from social anxiety. One day he reunites with his childhood friend Daniel who wants to help him get over these fears. But who is Daniel really? | A stylized and twisted story that blurs the line between reality and insanity. Has a nice twist at the end that breaks away from the usual tropes for this kind of story. Lots of great suspense that keeps you guessing up until the very end.
| Dark Mountain (2013) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Three friends go into the desert looking for the Dutchman's lost mine. After pocketing some quartz from a cavern, they begin experiencing something unnatural. Now they question their sanity as they struggle to escape the desert. | The biggest flaws in the movie are the dumb choices made by some characters. They refuse to examine their footage and make excuses not to do so that make no sense. That said, it was still engaging, suspensful, with good lore building and mix of different dangers that hunt the friends down.
| Dark Tower (1988) | 2/5 | Haunting | 80s | A newly constructed office building is haunted by an evil presence. A local officer must team up with doctors who study the paranormal to determine the source of this evil. | Though well acted, the pacing is agonizingly slow. The Tubi transer seems to be from a VHS as it has Vertical Hold issues randomly throughout the movie. Would have worked better as an episode of Tales from the Crypt instead of a full length movie. Ending is done rather well, though.
| Dave Made a Maze (2017) | 2/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | Dave tries to avoid the complications of life by building himself a cardboard maze. Things get very problematic though once the maze comes to life. Now Dave's friends must enter the maze, fight off a cardboard minotaur, and rescue their friend. | The set designs, artistic elements, and overall presentation of the movie are quirky and fun. The story is also very unique and creative. Unfortunately, it does start dragging during the second half. The novelty alone is not enough to carry the movie. Worth seeing once.
| Dawn of the Dead (2004) | 4/5 | Zombie | 2000s | When there is no more room in hell, the dead shall walk the earth. During the zombie apocolypse a group of strangers lock themselves in a shopping mall in order to survive. A remake of the George Romero classic. | Introduced "Running" zombies - faster and more violent than the traditional walkers. The movie balances human stories with the zombie threat giving us a perfect blend of drama and horror. Some fantastic gore, action sequences, and tension throughout.
| Dead Silence (2007) | 4/5 | Haunting | 2000s | A series of violent murders are believed to be linked to the ghost of murdered ventriloquist Mary Shaw. Directed by James Wan | Movie oozes atmosphere and suspense. The concept and execution feels straight out of an 80s, early 90s horror movie. Mary Shaw and her puppets are great additions to the horror genre.
| Dead Snow (2009) | 4/5 | Zombie | 2000s | A group of friends spend their holiday in a cabin up in the snowy mountains. They unwittingly release a horde of Zombie Nazis after uncovering cursed treasure. The twist? These zombies are intelligent! | Goretastic! A wonderful blend of dry humor and over-the-top gore and violence. Carries with it a very "Army of the Dead/Evil Dead 2" vibe. The final fight at the end is just insane and wonderful to watch.
| Dead Snow 2: Red vs Dead (2014) | 4/5 | Zombie | 2010s | The lone survivor of the first movie gains the ability to ressurect the dead. He uses his power to build an army of Russian zombies to face off against the Nazi Zombie horde led by the evil command Herzog. | The movie as insane as the premise. There is a lot of fun action, great choreography, and a ton of over-the-top cartoony gore. It's stupid, it's funny, and it is entertaining as hell. If you are a fan of crazy horror comedies with a lot of violence and slapstick, this movie is for you.
| Dead Space (1991) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | Scientists on a planetary space station try to stop a dangerous adaptive parasite from spreading. A remake of 1982's "Forbidden Planet". Starring Brian Cranston, Marc Singer & Laura Mae Tate | A fun, albeit average, sci-fi monster movie that is reminiscent of movies like The Thing, ALIEN, and Leviathan but with a lower budget. Has some good practical effects with the parasite, pretty good acting for the material provided, and is well paced. Perfect runtime at 72 minutes.
| Dead Space: Downfall (2008) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2000s | Discovery of an ancient alien artifact results in the mass killing and possession of a mining ship's crew. Animated movie based off the videogame of the same name. | Nothing per say wrong with the movie but something felt off . No tensions or scares but lots of action and top-notch gore. Animation was decent enough. Appreciate that you don't need to play the game to enjoy the story.
| Deadly Still (2018) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | A group of people end up in an abandoned cabin after crashing their car. There they discover an old camera that kills anyone who has their photo taken by it. | It's fine. Characters make a lot of dumb choices and the ending is anti-climatic but it's watchable for what it is. There are much better movies that do this concept better, though.
| Death Becomes Her (1993) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | Mortician Ernest Menville (Bruce Willis) has to deal with the violent rivalry involving his ex-girlfriend Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn) and his current wife Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep). The only problem? They are both immortal. | While the slap-stick, body horror, and special effects are front and center, nothing beats the completely unhinged performances of Willis, Hawn, and Streep. It is as if they are on a mission to out over-the-top each another and we are 100% here for it.
| Death Factory (2002) | 1/5 | Slasher | 2000s | College graduates decide to have a party into an abandoned factory that houses a blood-thirsty mutant. | Basically a mix between a no-budget horror and a softcore porn. Movie mostly consists of characters sitting around talking, having sex, or wandering the abandoned factory. At least has some decently violent (albeit drawn out) kills. The poster is the most exciting thing about this movie. No idea why beds and couches are in a chemical factory.
| Death House (2017) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A federal prison uses drugs and virtual realty to "transcend" its inmates into "perfectly morale beings." But one prisoner (Kane Hodder) stages a prison break in order to get access to The Five - a group of psychopaths who may have the key to immortality. Cameos by multiple horror icons including Sid Haig, Gunnar Hansen, Bill Mosely, Tony Todd, Dee Wallace, Barbara Crampton, Lloyd Kaufman, and more. | Kane Hodder, Barbara Crampton, and Dee Wallace are the only horror icons given any proper screen time. Everyone else is treated as a glorified cameo. Movie ruins it's premise by being too dark to see anything. Feels more like a Knott's Berry Farm Haunted House than a horror movie.
| Death Rink (2019) | 0/5 | Slasher | 2010s | The night crew of a roller rink are stalked by a mysterious killer. Also known as Skateway Massacre. | We spend a majority of the run time watching bland characters talking to each other. Kills don't start happening until the final 18 minutes and they are not creative enough or fun enough to stick around for.
| Death Trip (2021) | 1/5 | Thriller | 2020s | Four friends visit a small town for a weekend getaway. When one of them gets hurt, the friends struggle to cope with the situation at hand. | Nothing happens until the last 15 minutes of the movie. The only good thing is that they subvert the "small town hates outsiders" trope. The ending "twist" is nonsensical and dumb. The dialogue sounds adlibbed and the characters constantly talk over one another. The "time jump" transitions are jarring and the movie is just not fun.
| Deathgasm (2015) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A horror comedy about a metal band that accidentally unleashes the dark forces by playing a forbidden song called The Black Hymn. | A wonderful tongue-in-cheek comedy with some fun gore. The visual humor is offset by how serious the characters take the situations which just adds to the overall humor. Does drag in some places but comes together nicely in the end. If you like New-Zeland humor, this is a good addition to your watch list.
| Deep Blue Sea (1999) | 3/5 | Creature | 90s | Scientists in an underwater lab try to cure alhemizer's by genetically modifying Great White Sharks. Who knew that the sharks would become super intelligent and go on a killing rampage? | A tongue-in-cheek creature flick that is probably one of the better shark movies since Jaws. It's both suspensful and funny thanks to its cast (including LL Cool Jay and Samuel L Jackson). A big-budget B-movie that is not to be taken seriously but is still a lot of fun.
| Deep Dark (2015) | 2/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | An artist discovers a demonic glory hole in his apartment that promises greatness in exchange for love. | Bland main character but absolutely bizarre concept that makes it worth at least 1 watch through. Glory Hole is the best character in the movie.
| Deep Rising (1998) | 4/5 | Creature | 90s | Pirates raid a luxury cruiser only to discover that it has been attacked by a monsterous sea creature. | A fun action/horror that screams 90s corniness. The humor, the violence, the action are all top tier. The only thing that has not aged well is the computer animation for the sea monster but it is forgivable thanks to just how damn entertaining this movie is.
| Demonic Toys (1992) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 90s | Demonically possessed toys trap a cop, criminal, and four others inside of a warehouse. The cop must find a way to stop the toys from summoning a bigger demon. | Entertaining but drags in the second half. Love the designs of the toys and the gore and kills but the pacing ruins the film. Fun to watch one or two times unless it really clicks with you.
| Devil's Rejects (2005) | 5/5 | Thriller | 2000s | The surviving members of the Firefly Family are on the run after being ambushed by the police. The local sheriff becomes obsessed with hunting them down and hires bounty hunters to assist in finding them | Hand's down Rob Zombie's finest work. Somehow he demonizes then humanizes the horrible Firefly family and the Sheriff who is hunting them down. Bill Mosely, Sid Haig, and Sheri Moon have amazing chemistry and play off one another beautifully.
| Devour (2002) | 0/5 | Biblical | 2000s | Jake Grey and his friends start playing an online game called 'the Pathway'. After signing up, they each get phone calls from a mysterious person who starts manipulating their fears and insecurities in order to control them. | Feels like 2 incomplete movies slapped together - a cursed game one and an AntiChrist one.The movie is only 90 minutes but crawls at a snail's pace. Bland characters, boring kills, and severe pacing issues.
| Disturbing Behavior (1998) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | Troubled Teens get brainwashed by their principal to be "good kids". Turns them into psychopaths instead. | Fun concept with a surprisingly large body count. Classic 90s style slasher. Basically a teenage version of Stepford Wives. Stupidly fun to watch.
| Do Not Reply (2019) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2010s | A girl answers a dating app only to get kidnapped by the person she matched with. She, along with 3 other girls, is forced to act like the kidnapper's sister while living and maintaining his picturesque surburban home. | There are a lot of good moments in this movie - using the shag capeting to see the girls' footprints, how the main girl manipulates the killer, the idea of him filming everything to be re-watched in VR. The problem is that there is no one likable enough to root for, there are a LOT of dumb choices made, and the movie tries to play itself off as a warning PSA for little kids who text strangers. Good ideas but terribly executed.
| Dolls (1987) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 80s | A dysfunctional family ends up at a mansion during a lightning storm. Unfortunately, the mansion is full of demonic dolls that will kill anyone lacking a child-like innocence. | The stop-motion and claymation used in this movie is beautiful. Really enjoy the idea that the dolls are used more as a test for bad people than mindless killing machines. Combine this with the great cast of characters and got yourself a fun 80s horror film! Highly recommend this for anyone who is a fan of the Doll genre.
| Don’t Breathe (2016) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Several thieves break into a blind man's house only to discover that he is war vet with a dark, and violent, past. | The movie does it's best work during the home invasion. Stephan Lang is terrifying as the Blind Man and the use of darkness adds a chilling sense of claustraphobia to the movie. The "twist" feels a bit "out of the blue" and is rather jarring to the tone set originally.
| Don't Blink (2014) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Friends go to a hotel in the middle of the woods only to find that everyone in the hotel has vanished. Must keep an eye on one another least they too vanish. | Genuinely eerie concept with good execution. Some really creepy and surreal moments.
| Dorian Gray (2009) | 3/5 | Fantasy | 2000s | Young Dorian Gray sells his soul to the devil to enjoy a life of hedonism. He stays forever young while his portrait takes on the appearance of all his sins. | Some bad blue-screen here and there but otherwise well acted and rather engaging. Enjoyed the unabashed look at Dorian's hedonistic lifestyle leading to his downfall.
| Dr. Giggles (1992) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | An escaped mental patient returns to his hometown to extract revenge on those who murdered his father 35 years ago. | Campy, silly, with a TON of doctor puns. Is good for what it is - a comedic horror movie that focuses more on ridiculous kills and dumb one-liners. Fun for those who like movies that don't take themselves seriously.
| Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) | 5/5 | Vampire | 90s | A satirical take on the Dracula, written and directed by the great Mel Brooks. Dracula leaves Transylvania in search of new blood. He becomes enamored with a beatiful young woman named Mina and her friend Lucy - of whom he intends to make into vampires. Starring Leslie Nielsen, Mel Brooks, and Peter MacNicol. | The combination of Leslie's dry wit and Mel Brooks' superb writing makes this one of his best parodies. Not one scene, not one character, not one line is wasted. A must see for fans of Dracula, Mel Brooks, and Leslie Neslon alike.
| Dybbuk Box (2019) | 1/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Man buys a Dybbuk Box from the Dark Web to see if they really do contain evil spirits. Spoiler. They do. | Very little happens throughout the movie. Generic Found Footage/Haunting movie with no payoff or actual scares.
| Eight Legged Freaks (2002) | 3/5 | Creature | 2000s | Spiders mutate to insane proportions and terrorize a small desert community. | A good blend of action, horror, and comedy. Does get a little slow during the final act but overall a great little distraction for those who like silly horror movies.
| Elivra's Haunted Hills (2002) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | This parody of the 60s Edgar Allen Poe movies puts Elvira in 1851 Romania. While travelling to Paris, she, along with her servant Zou Zou, are invited to stay at a castle. It is there she discovers that she resembles the Lord's deceased wife. | While Elvira is always a joy to watch, the movie lacks the charm, wit, or humor of her previous film, Mistress of the Dark. Just feels like they were trying too hard - resulting in lazy slapstick, cartoony sound effects, and an uninteresting story.
| Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) | 4/5 | WitchCraft | 80s | Struggling performer Elvira inherits an old house from her deceased Great-Aunt. She soon discovers that her Aunt was a powerful witch and that an evil warlock is looking for her Aunt's book. Now this bumbling actress must use her fledgling powers to stop the warlock before it's too late. | Elvira is in her element using her sexuality and sarcasm to deliver a wonderful comedy that plays both on small-town conservatism and supernatural horror. A delightful comedy through and through.
| Eradication (2022) | 2/5 | Infection | 2020s | A plague has destroyed the world's population. A man with a unique blood type breaks quarantine in hopes of finding the truth about the outbreak. He ventures into a world of infected zombie-like monsters in hopes of figuring out what is really going on. | Decent use of worldbuilding, atmosphere, and suspense but the payoff seems weak. The synopsis talks about "Shadow Agents" and "Infected" when, in fact, there is very little of either. Your appreciation of the movie's slow burn will vary. Worth 1 viewing to see for yourself.
| Erzulie (2022) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2020s | A reunion between four troubled friends turns deadly after they summon the mermaid goddess Erzulie. | Despite it's low-budget, the movie has some good acting, makeup, and effects. Starts off with a good "girl power" solidarity message that feels quite natural. Loses momentuem during the second act thanks to some clumsy editing, dark lighting, and sudden villains that exist only to create a final conflict. Also has a side-story involving a chemical spill that never gets resolved. Still decent enough for a viewing.
| Escape: Puzzle of Fear (2020) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2020s | A rich and successful man and his friends are invited to an extreme Escape Room that was designed strictly to extract revenge for the man's misdeeds. | Nothing like what was expected. The idea, while really unbelievable, is unique and interesting. A good concept, some good acting, and even some good twists but not one you'd watch over and over again. Would recommend for one viewing. May be surprised.
| Evil Toons (1991) | 1/5 | Haunting | 90s | A group of female house keepers discover a mysterious book full of demonic imagary. Reading from the book brings one of the drawings to life - that of a giant cartoon rat. "Stars" David Carradine. | David Carradine does nothing but stand outside the house while leaning on a tree up until the final 5 minutes of the movie. . The acting is non-existent, the "cartoon gimmick" only a minute long, and the kills pathetic. Movie exists only to get the actresses (and female extras) topless - which happens frequently. May be worth watching for a chuckle or two.
| Excorcist: The Beginning (2004) | 3/5 | Biblical | 2000s | A Prequel to the Excorcist. Follows a younger Father Merrin as he excavates an ancient Church. He soon discovers it is on the resting place of an alter dedicated to the demon Pazuzu. By disturbing its resting place, the nearby camps undergo horrible events/curses that threaten to tear them all apart. | A lot of disturbing scenes with good use of intense violence. Stands on its own as an individual movie in the Excorcist universe. The final act is plagued by some dodgy CGI and acting that can get a bit too silly but overall it is a solid story.
| Exists (2014) | 4/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Group of friends visit a cabin in the woods only to be hunted down by an angry BigFoot | Surprisingly intense. Not afraid to show the monster. Really sells the absolute terror of being hunted by a huge beast.
| Fatal Exam (1990) | 0/5 | Supernatural | 90s | A high school teacher allows his students to investigate a haunted house as part of the final exam. | Terrible sound design. Constant white noise and electrical hums. Voices cut off or drop in volume drastically. Excruciating to watch thanks to the dreadfully wooden acting. Legit forgot that half of the cast were part of the movie when not on screen. The end fight is something that needs to be seen to be believed.
| Fear Dot Com (2002) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | People are brutally murdered after visiting a website called FearDotCom. A detective and his partner try to solve the mysteries of the website in hopes that it would lead them to a serial killer. What they don't know is that a ghost has taken over the website and kills anyone who visits it. | This is just a forgettable version of The Ring. Arbitrary time limit of 48 hours, a ghost that sends clues to solve their murder, and death if the time limit runs out. Minus some good deaths, the movie is sadly very forgettable.
| FEVER LAKE (1997) | 1/5 | Slasher | 90s | College students visit a lake-side cabin to enjoy a weekend of fishing and fun. Unfortunately, the lake is home of a demonic force. | Have absolutely no idea what was going on in the movie. Besides the very low production value (film is very blurry and the audio syncing is off a bit), the movie makes little sense, the kills are subpar and occur during the last half hour, and the ending lazy. Fun watching a girl get attacked by an invisible wolf, though.
| Fido (2006) | 3/5 | Zombie | 2000s | It is the 1950s and Humanity has survived the Zombie Apocolypse. Zombies are now treated as both pets and menial labor. One family decides to take in one such zombie whom they name Fido but when attacks begin to arise, Fido's life, and the life of his family, may be in danger. | A fun and simple comedy that has a lot of good ideas. Unfortunately, the joke of Zombie Pets tends to fizzle out near the middle of the film. Still entertaining to watch overall with some fun references to classics like Lassie.
| Final Girls (2015) | 5/5 | Slasher | 2010s | A young woman grieving the loss of her mother, a famous scream queen from the 1980s, gets pulled into the slasher movie that made her mother famous. Now she and her friends must escape the movie's tropes in order to escape alive. | This movie has a lot more heart than it deserves to have. Beautifully plays on the classic Slasher tropes without going too meta or too "wink to the camera". Genuinely cared for all the characters; meatbags and main cast. Well acted, well shot, a lot of fun from start to finish.
| Final Prayer (2013) | 5/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Two Vatican investigators explore a church in a small town to determine the truth behind a strange phenomenon caught on film. | Acting, atmosphere, and character chemistry is all top notch. Engaging from start to finish with a growing sense of dread rising throughout the entire movie. The ending is the biggest highlight - either you'll love it or dislike it but it is absolute insane. If you watch twice, you can catch many hints to the ending.
| Final Wish (2018) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | After the death of his father, Aaron Hammond returns home where he discovers a mysterious urn that grants wishes. The more wishes he makes, the closer her comes to losing his soul to the demon within the urn. Co-stars Lin Shaye. | Despite Lin Shaye's performance - which is always top-notch - the movie suffers from being a sterotypical "genie/djinn" storyline. Characters makes wishes, wishes go horribly wrong because of how they were worded, and he must use his last wish to undo everything.
| Followed (2018) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Influencer stays inside a haunted hotel with friends. Very bad things begin to happen as they mess with local urban legends and myths | Some really neat ideas and some good tension. Yet still manages to be rather generic and predictable.
| Frakenstein's Army (2013) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Soldiers discover a Nazi labortary that is tasked in making undead super soldiers. These monsters include a giant beast with a jet propeller for a head, a man with giant blades for arms and legs, and a zombie with huge hooks for hands. | Love the concept behind this. The monster designs are top notch making me want more of the monsters. It does get a bit slow in the middle of the film but overall the execution is well done and it is a fun ride despite some flaws.
| Freddy vs Jason (2003) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2000s | Freddy Kruger ressurects then sics Jason on the kids of Elm Street in hopes of regaining his powers. The plan works too well as Jason begins slaughtering everyone on Elm Street resulting in Freddy having to face off against Jason. | The story is only there to move Freddy and Jason to their victims. We get some stellar kills, good-enough humor, and the movie gives the audience what they want to see: Freddy fighting Jason. Whereas most Versus movies save the fight until the end, FvJ battle it out several times across several different locations. Fun, dumb, and entertaining as hell to watch.
| Friday the 13th (2009) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A group of friends go to a cabin in the woods only to be stalked by a meaner, faster, and more violent Jason Voorhees. A modern, more ruthless twist on the classic villain. | The decision to make Jason intelligent and fast did wonders for his character. It made him scary again. The characters may feel like cliches but they are all fun cliches. Has some fantastically gory kills, some great humor, and contains a classic Friday the 13th feel.
| Fright Night (1985) | 3/5 | Vampire | 80s | A teenager believes that one of his neighbors is an all-powerful vampire. He teams up with a television personality to try and stop the vampire before it's too late. | Delightfully silly in all the right ways. The villains chew on the scenery as if it were candy and we are all here for it. Some wonderful practical effects, good humor, and a lot of fun all around. Can be a bit too silly at times but doesn't detract from the enjoyment.
| Fright Night (2011) | 4/5 | Vampire | 2010s | A high school student living in Las Vegas discovers that his new neighbor is a vampire. He seeks the help of a so-called vampire hunter who mascardes as a Vegas magician. Stars Colin Farrell as the vampire and David Tennant as the magician. Is a remake of the 80s classic. | Possibly one of the better horror remakes out there. Blends humor and horror seamlessly with Colin Farrell and David Tennant stealing the show whenever they are on screen. Really gets it right by doing it's own thing with the source material as opposed to mimicing the original shot for shot.
| From Beyond (1986) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | Dr Pretorius (Ted Sorel) discovers a way to see into other universes. Unfortunately this method also allows those universes to interact with ours. Now it is up to his assistant (Jeffrey Combs), pyschiatrist Katherine (Barbara Crampton) and detective Bubba (Ken Foree) to uncover the truth of Pretorius's disappearence. | The body horror is top-notch; giving us some impressive ooey-gooey monster goodness. It is a truly insane movie with crazy story beats, weird monsters, and a wonderfully weird and violent ending. Great for those wanting a movie that is just off-the-wall nuts.
| Frozen (2010) | 2/5 | Survival | 2010s | Three friends get stuck on a ski-lift in the middle of the night. They need to figure out a way down or risk freezing to death. | Movie is fine enough. Great sound design & well paced. Characters make questionable choices that can be seen as frustrating to some. Feels very generic to other man vs nature survival movies. Worth a watch for the concept alone.
| Fun Size Horror 2 (2015) | 3/5 | Anthology | 2010s | 11 short films (between 3-8 minutes) meant to "explore horror at every angle" | **Warning: Real Animal Gore - real dead rats were used in this film.** More good stories than bad. Some suffer from being too short, but a majority have good ideas, gore, or suspense. Favorites: And they Watched, Pillow Fright, Great Corben, Pinned.
| Furry Nights (2017) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Amatuer film makers accidentally kill a furry. The furry's friends come back for revenge. | Movie is just bonkers. The acting is all over the place, the kills silly, and the concept hilariously bad. A great example of 'So bad, it's good.' - absolutely entertaining despite being idiotic as hell. Would recommend this movie drunk with friends.
| Gags the Clown (2018) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Footage from several different cameras (a reporter, police body cams, teenagers, and a right-wing radio show host) as they hunt down "Gags the Clown" - a man in a clown suit who has scaring a small community. | Interesting paranormal twist on the whole "clown sightings" phenomenon. Characters are unlikable and dialed up to 11 but obviously done on purpose. Sadly there is very little story or explaination to what's going on. Worth a watch or two to determine if you like it.
| Gallow Walkers (2012) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A cursed gunman seeks an aide of a young gunslinger in order to battle the a horde of the undead that wear human skin as suits. Stars Wesley Snipes. | The action, kills, makeup, and gore is pretty entertaining to watch and is worth the price of at least one viewing. Though the majority of the movie is spent on scenes and characters that do nothing for long stretches of time. The editing is all over the place and the movie relies way too much on slow motion and flashbacks.
| Gatlopp: A Hell of a Game (2022) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2020s | A group of old friends get together to reminiscence about the past. During which they play a board game that forces them to confess their sins and regrets. What they don't know is that the board game plays by Jumanji rules. They now have until sunrise to beat the game least they suffer the consequences. | Less horror and more of a character drama. The supernatural stakes are not as violent or scary as one may expect. Luckily, the cast work wonderfully together. The story is heart-felt and surprisingly emotional. It is also genuinely funny in some parts making this a fun watch.
| GET OUT (2017) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Interracial couple Chris Washington and Rose Armitage go to the countryside to visit Rose's parents. At first it seems as if her parents are accepting of Chris but as time goes on, he realizes there is something sinister afoot. | A fantastic psychological thriller that balances dark comedy with social commentary. Takes its time when it comes to developing its characters as well as its suspense. Highly recommend for those looking for something to keep them on edge.
| Ghosts of Mars (2001) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2000s | A group of space marines go to Mars to figure out what cause the disappearence of several colonists. What they discover is an ancient race of "ghosts" that have the ability to possess the living. Co-starring Jason Statham and Ice Cube. | The best part of the movie are the designs of the bad-guys. A deliciously hideious blend of Event Horizon and Mad Max. However the movie just feels cheap and the acting comes across as very wooden and stiff. Worth a watch or two though to judge for yourself.
| Gingerdead Man (2005) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | A serial killer (Gary Busey) is resurrected as a murderous gingerbread man. Of course - it's a Full Moon production. | This is a movie you watch with friends while drinking or wanting something stupid and dumb yet entertaining. You get exactly what you'd expect - Gary Busey as a killer cookie. Nothing more, nothing less. Completely idiotic yet still fun to watch with the right group or mindset.
| Godzilla (1998) | 3/5 | Giant Animal | 90s | Radiation mutates a lizard turning it into a giant monstrocity that terrorizes New York City. Can technically be called a 'Godzilla' movie. | 90s cheese. It's not fantastic but can still be quite fun with its stupid premise, silly action sequences (clearly stolen from better movies such as Jurassic Park), and hokey dialogue.
| GonJiam: Haunted Asylum (2018) | 4/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Seven paranormal investigators do a live broadcast from inside a haunted Asylum. However the broadcast turns deadly as ghostly residents of the Ayslum wake up. | Like Grave Encounters, it takes its time building the suspense. A strong focus on practical makeup and effects helps the movie feel real. Fantastic sound design that elevates the tension and sense of uncomfortability. Ending is a bit abrupt but otherwise a very intense found footage movie.
| Gothika (2003) | 3/5 | Possession | 2000s | Woman becomes possessed by an entity that is seeking revenge for its murder. | Decent enough movie overall. Twist is rather obvious. Does nothing new while also doing nothing terribly wrong either.
| Gracefield Incident (2017) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | When a man puts a camera in his glass eye, he captures a horrifying incident that involves a meteor, aliens, and crop circles. | Some eerie and tense moments set in corn fields and decent moments scattered throughout but suffers from being a slog and too dark to see anything.
| Grandmother's House (1988) | 1/5 | Thriller | 80s | A recently orphaned brother and sister end up living with their grandparents whom they suspect are killers. | An interesting idea ruined by bland characters and stiff acting. The movie drags on painfully slow during the middle act. It does have two pretty interesting twists that may make the movie worth watching but overall it would have been better as a short film than feature length.
| Grave Encounters (2011) | 5/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Fake paranormal investigators check out haunted insane asylum only to discover the hauntings are all too real. | Fantastic use of "Time loops" and legit scares. Fun to watch the characters go from cocky and excited to terrified. Love the growing sense of helplessness and dread that builds throughout.
| Grave Encounters 2 (2012) | 1/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Fan of the original movie decides to visit the insane asylum with his girlfriend. Ends up being seduced by the evil and works to free it. | Unlikable main character, terrible effects, and an lousy ending that has the ghosts literally hold the cameras for the main character.
| Greetings from Tromavilla (2021) | 4/5 | Documentary | 2020s | A very detailed retrospective of Troma Studios and its founder Llyod Kaufman. Includes interviews with Lloyd and the cast and crew he's worked with throughout the years. | One of the most in-depth documentaries I've ever seen. Details in incredible detail the rise, struggle, and resurgence of the Troma Brand. Fascinating to listen to as it provides an unflinching look at just how difficult it is to make such low-budget but successful movies.
| Gremlin (2017) | 2/5 | Monster | 2010s | A Strange box appears at a family's home. It contains an evil Gremlin that kills people unless passed to another family. | Sub-par movie that somehow gets slightly better during the final act. Interesting concept but sci-fi channel worthy execution.
| Gremlins (1984) | 4/5 | Creature | 80s | A boy is given a special gift for Christmas - an adorable little critter called a Mogwai. However there are very specific rules in how to take care of a Mogwai. Breaking those rules results in the creation of the zany, but very dangerous, Gremlins. Directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus. | A great creature flick with some fantastic practical effects and puppeteering. Gizmo the Mogwai is absolutely adorable while his Gremlin counterparts are a thing of nightmares. The zany humor does not undercut the serious threat that is the Gremlins for while silly, they are still quite horrifying.
| Gremlins 2 (1990) | 3/5 | Creature | 90s | Gizmo is back! This time he is captured and sold to a science center built into the city's newest highrise building. There he is experimented upon until he produces a new batch of Gremlins. These new Gremlins ingest a series of DNA altering chemicals resulting in horrible mutations that threaten everyone in the building. | The entire movie is like watching a cartoon - with its over-the-top comedy, constant 4th wall breaking, and so-stupid-its-awesome storyline. The new Gremlins are easily the highlight of the film and steal every scene they are in. Like the previous movie, still uses some wonderful puppeteering and practical effects. How much you enjoy this movies depends on how you feel about the drastic tone shift from the original.
| Hail to the Deadites (2020) | 3/5 | Documentary | 2020s | A detailed documentary of the passionate but fun fan base surrounding the Evil Dead franchise. Contains interviews, footage, short films, wedding proposals, and music made by the fans. | A cute documentary showcasing several handpicked stories of dedicated fans - from cosplayers to collectors and everything in between. Has some fun interviews with cast members of the classic horror trilogy explaining their viewpoints on the Evil Dead phenonema.
| HALL (2021) | 1/5 | Infection | 2020s | A family of three goes on a road trip where the mother decides to leave her abusive husband. However, a strange virus gets loose in the hotel leaving her trapped on the third floor. Now she must escape, find her child, and flee before joining the infected. | While the acting, makeup, and production value are well and good, there is nothing redeeming about this frusterating movie. We are introduced to two female leads - one being nothing more than a red herring used to pad the run time, and the main mother who mostly sits on the floor and cries to herself. The movie is agonizingly slow, there are halluncinations that are never explained, an outbreak that is never explained, and a plot that moves at a snail's pace.
| Hallowed Ground (2007) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | When Liz Chambers' car breaks down in a small rural town, she finds herself the target of a sadistic cult. The cult wants her to give birth to the town's founder; a preacher who sacrificed people by crucifying them and turning them into scarecrows. Starring Jaimie Alexander with an appearance by Chloe Grace Moretz. | Once the scarecrow comes to life, the movie kicks into high gear with very little slow down. Has a few decent kills and a somewhat interesting story but gets a bit too silly and nonsensical near the end. Probably the worse being how quickly they switch from day to night in a matter of seconds. Some AWFUL computer animation as well.
| Halloween (2018) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2010s | 40 years after Micheal Myers terrorized Haddonfield, a hardened Laurie Strode prepares for his inevitable return. Starring Jaime Lee Curtis. | A wonderful love letter to fans of the original Halloween - with some fantastic callbacks, references, and continuations from the original classic. Micheal is meaner and more violent whereas Laurie is hardened and well prepared. A great return to form for this series.
| Hannibal (2001) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2000s | Clarice Starling is disgraced from the FBI after a botched operation. She is contacted by Mason Verger (Gary Oldman) - the only surviving victim of Hannibal Lector - to assist him in hunting down and capturing the rogue serial killer. Hannibal has other plans. | A different beast than Silence but enjoyable nevertheless. More viscreal and stylized - with a larger focus on violence and cruelty. Anthony and Julianne Moore work beautitfully together and Gary Oldman is neigh recognizable as Mason Verger.
| Harbinger Down (2015) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | Created as a "protest movie" against the producers for The Thing (2011) , this movie follows a grad students studying at sea. After discovering a sunken vessel, the crew accidentally releases a dangerous parasite that infects and absorbs its hosts. Written and directed by make-up artist Alec Gillis | While most of the practical effects are stellar, the movie suffers from its low budget and production value. It's influence by The Thing (original and prequel) is too obvious at it feels like an "At-Sea" version of the classic horror movie. However, the movie was made with heart and passion and it shows. Worth watching for any fans of Alic Gillis' work.
| Harland Manor (2021) | 2/5 | Haunting | 2020s | A trio of ghost hunters decide to explore a mansion with a horrible past. The longer the stay within these haunted walls, the more dangerous the spirits become. A Made-For-Tubi movie. | The movie starts off strong. Gives the characters time to breath while setting up the horrors that is the Harland Manor. However the second half of the movie is nothing more than a bundle of haunted house/ghost hunting cliches that make the movie feel generic and bland.
| Head (2015) | 1/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Puppets (actual puppets) go on a trip to the woods only to discover that it is the site of terrible murders. There is also some kind of anthology segment that didn't have anything to do with the rest of the movie? | The sound design is terrible, the acting stiff and emotionless, and a lot of the times the puppets' mouths don't always match the dialogue. Feels a bit lazy - with sex, cussing, and blood being used as selling points instead of clever writing or witty satire. Starts off as an anthology but then becomes a slasher film. Does pick up a bit during the last 20 minutes but not enough to save the movie. Only an hour but feels much longer.
| Hell House LLC (2015) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Haunted House makers decide to turn a creepy motel into a Haunted House. Things get too real too fast on the night of their opening. | Slow burn with a mediocre conclusion hindered by the inability to really see what's going on in the end.
| Hell House LLC 2 (2018) | 1/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Investigators try to figure out what happened to the crew from previous movie. | Very rough acting and cinematography pulls you out of the movie. Ending is very far-fetched even for this genre.
| Hellarious (2019) | 4/5 | Anthology | 2010s | Seven short horror comedies revolving around different themes. Stories include - Cannibal Lunch Ladies, a guitar player gifted Satan's guitar, Killer Shopping Carts, a Reverse Werewolf, and more. | Didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised! Real laugh-out-loud moments thanks to the absurdity of some of the situations. No meta commentary or winks to the camera - played serious and that adds a lot to the comedy. Each story is just long enough to get the point across.
| Hellraiser (1987) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 80s | A sexual deviant named Frank uses a puzzle box to unluck the "ultimate pleasure" - which is an eternity of pain by the hands of the Cenobites. When his ex-lover Julia ressurects him, Frank needs her to fetch him new victims in order to be whole again. | Some of the greatest practical effects in the horror genre. The Cenobites are beautifully designed with Pinhead (Doug Bradley) being the highlight of the movie. Some effects are dated and the story can move slow at times but still holds up to this day as a horror staple.
| Hellraiser II: Hellbound (1988) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 80s | Kirsty is the sole survivor from the events of the first movie. Locked in a mental asylum, she seeks a way to enter hell to save her father's soul. Meanwhile the asylum's head doctor - who is obsessed with the puzzle boxes - ressurects Julia in order to gain passage to the depths of Hell to understand its secrets. | While some of the sets/matte paintings are dated, still provides a uniquely sensual and eerie version of hell that remains one of a kind. The makeup, gore, and acting are all as good, if not better, than the original - providing us with new villains, more violence, and bigger set pieces. Opinions on the final battle may vary based off your tastes.
| Hellraiser: Judgement (2018) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Pinhead enlists the assistance of The Auditor - a Cenobite who judges people based off their sins - to find new victims. A detective gets caught up in the Auditor's schemes and now faces horrid nightmares as he tries to figure out what's going on. | LOVE the designs of the Auditor and his minions. Truly disgusting showcase of how sings are judged. Enjoyed the story though it started to drag in the middle. Overall feel it is one of the better late Hellraiser sequels
| Hellraiser: Revelations (2011) | 0/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Two friends go on a drunken, sexual bender in Mexico. While there, they accidentally summon Pinhead. A year later, the boys' family discover the puzzle box and use it to determine what happened. | Movie looks like a cheap soap-opera. Acting is stilted and unbelievable - lacking any urgency or realism. Characters are erractic - going from fighting to calmly talking in matter of seconds. Very similar to the original storyline but without any of the passion or care.
| Hobo with a Shotgun (2011) | 4/5 | Splatter | 2010s | A homeless man moves into a dangerous city with a dream of starting a lawnmowing buisness. He accidentally incures the wrath of a crime lord who then declares open season on all homeless people. Putting his dream aside, the Hobo buys a shotgun and declares open season on the crime lord's territory. | Unflinchingly violent. A fantastic throwback to the explotative grindhouse movies of the 70s. With a simple but engaging story and likable protagonists, this movie is a must for gore hounds everywhere.
| Horns (2013) | 4/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | A young man is accused of murdering his girlfriend. To make matters worse, he wakes up with devil-like horns growing out of his head. These horns cause people to confess their worse sins to him which he uses to hunt down the actual killer. Starring Daniel Radcliff. | A murder mystery mixed with dark themes, light comedic moments, and great story telling. Daniel Radcliff is wonderful to watch. Has a moment or two that slows down but overall this a very unique and entertaining movie.
| Horror in the High Desert (2021) | 2/5 | Fake Documentary | 2020s | Man vanishes in desert. Documentary discusses incident leading up to disappearance. Last 15 minutes showcasing what happened to him. | Slow burn that leads to a semi-creepy ending. End result a bit unsatisfying. Mildly interesting to watch but payoff does not feel worth while.
| HorseHead (2014) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2010s | A young woman named Jessica is haunted by visions and nightmares involving a horse-headed entity. She must delve deep into these nightmares to uncover the truth of not only herself but her family as well. | Visually beautiful - channeling inspiration of the works of Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci. However the cinematography cannot make up for the erratic story. Probably worth a single watch but unsure if entertaining enough for multiple viewings.
| Hostel (2005) | 3/5 | Torture | 2000s | A group of friends visiting Amsterdam end up at a hostel where they are drugged and tortured by the hostel's sick clientele. Written and Directed by Eli Roth | Suspensful and gory - the movie does what it intends to do. It provides audiences with an unflinching, violent torture-fest that keeps us on the edge of our seat. That said, it is not perfect. It suffers from unlikable characters, childish dialogue, and some iffy practical effects. Still a fun ride despite its shortcomings.
| Hostel Part II (2007) | 3/5 | Torture | 2000s | After the events of the first movie, three female tourists are captured by the Hunting Club where they are sold off to the highest bidder. | Provides some insight to the Hunting Club which also provides us with actual antagonists to root against. While not as many kills as the first, the ones we get are bloodier and a lot more violent. Final Girl's acting gets a bit rough in the 3rd act and the ending is a bit silly but other than that, a solid sequel. [WARNING: GENITAL MUTILATION]
| House (1985) | 4/5 | Haunting | 80s | After the disappearance of his son, author Roger Cobb moves back into his childhood home to work on a new book. But while there, he is haunted by the ghosts of the past - mostly the spirit of a Vietnam soldier who has a vendetta against him. | A horror comedy classic. Tongue in cheek from start to finish with a lot of laughs and some decent jump scares. One of the few horror comedies that consistently stays entertaining from start to finish with few moments that slow down or fall flat.
| House of 1000 Corpses (2003) | 3/5 | Torture | 2000s | While on a road trip across America, a group of friends pick up a hitchhiker named Baby Firefly. After their tire gets blown out, Baby invites them to her family's house to stay the night. What the friends don't know is that the Fireflys are a family of psychotic serial killers who have sinister plans for the group. Directed by Rob Zombie. | This is Rob Zombie's first movie and it shows. While the acting is on point and the kills brutal; the editing is stylized more like one of his music videos than a traditional horror movie. Gives the film a very 70s grindhouse feel but can also be distracting.
| House of Wax (2005) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2000s | College students have car troubles while on a camping trip. End up visiting a small town and it's infamous 'House of Wax' that is run by a serial killer who turns his victims into wax sculptures. | A good remake from Dark Castle that provides great kills and some impressive special effects. The literal house of wax set was ambitious and pulled off very well. Some acting is flat but overall still very fun to watch.
| House on Haunted Hill (1959) | 3/5 | Haunting | 50s | An eccentric millionaire lures people to a haunted mansion with the promise of $10,000 dollars to whomever survives the night. | Vincent Price, Carol Ohmart, and Carolyn Craig steal the show. More of a murder mystery than horror. Price is just delightful and his and Carol's interactions are the highlight of this film.
| Houses October Built (2014) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Documentary team record extreme haunted houses across America. But they soon find an extreme house that goes TOO far. | Fun romp and showcases a lot of awesome real-life haunted-house mazes. Really helps you feel like you are checking them out for real. Ending was very well done overall.
| Houses October Built 2 (2017) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Same team from previous movie continue to explore new haunted houses but tensions mount as the leader pushes them to more extreme locations. | Decent enough sequel but acting falls very flat. Neat twist at the end but not enough to warrant multiple viewings.
| Howling III (1983) | 1/5 | Werewolf | 80s | A female werewolf runs away from her family and falls in love with a man who works in the movie business. Meanwhile a sociologist searches for proof of the werewolves' existence. | Marsupial Werewolves. Ballerina Werewolves. Skeleton Werewolves. This movie is a practice of the insane. Unfortunately the werewolf designs are rubbery and look absolutely terrible. The story bland, pacing slow, and characters dull. Suffers the most from its PG-13 rating.
| Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence (2011) | 1/5 | Torture | 2010s | A deranged fan of The Human Centipede decides to recreate the movie on his own. | While Laurence R Harvey does a great job portraying the psychotic antagonist, the movie as a whole leaves a lot to be desired. Shock and Gore for the sake of Shock and Gore. Sadly, doesn't live up to it's predecessor.
| Human Centipede 3 (2015) | 2/5 | Torture | 2010s | A warden at a maximum security prison uses the movies "Human Centipede 1 &2" as inspiration on how to punish the inmates. Starring Dieter Laser & Laurence R Harvey. | A very loud, violent, and grotesque end to the Human Centipede Trilogy. The first half of the movie is a bit slow and mostly consists of the warden screaming but the movie kicks into high gear when the Centipede equation is introduced. Then it becomes overly violent, disgusting, and foul. Entertaining for what it is, but not worth multiple viewings.
| Husk (2011) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A murder of crows cause a car to crash just outside of an evil cornfield. When they venture inside to find their friend, they become the next victims of a group of evil scarecrows. | Surprisingly really good! A fun supernatural slasher movie that combines the eeriness of cornfields with the creepiness of scarecrows. Very pleased with how this one turned out.
| I Kill Giants (2017) | 4/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | A teenager must confront her worse fears when deadly giants threaten to destroy her small town. | Powerful movie with a lot of heart. Madison Wolfe does a wonderful job as the troubled and emotional Barbara Thorson. Has some pretty cool visuals and a compelling mystery that keeps you guessing right up until the end. May not be for everyone but still a solid film.
| I saw the Devil (2010) | 5/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Serial killer Kyung-Chul murders special agent Kim Soo-hyeon's wife. Wracked with grief, Kim Soo-hyeon undergoes a brutal and violent journey of revenge that won't end until Kyung's life is in shambles. Starring Choi Min-sik (Oldboy) and Lee Byung-hun (G.I. Joe) | An ultra-violent action revenge thriller that keeps you glued to the screen. Showcases just how far people will go in order to extract revenge. If you are a fan of OLDBOY or the Sympathy movies, this movie is for you. Emotional, heartbreaking, brutal, and vicious.
| I Sell the Dead (2008) | 3/5 | Monster | 2000s | The night before his execution, a grave robber tells a priest stories of monsters, vampires, and other horrible beasts he has come across in his travels.
| Idle Hands (1999) | 3/5 | Possession | 90s | Slacker Anton Tobias has his right hand possessed by the devil. The hand goes on a killing spree that results in the dead returning as zombies. Now Anton must find a way to purify his hand before it's too late. | A delightful horror comedy that does not skimp on the gore or practical effects. Has some cheesey moments that can only exist in 90s movies but those just add to its charm.
| In the Mouth of Madness (1994) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 90s | An Insurance Fraud Agent (Sam Neill) is sent to investigate a case about a missing author. He discovers that the author's latest book may be influencing reality - altering people, time, and even space itself. Loosely based off the works of H.P. Lovecraft. | Plays beautifully on the concept of "Reality vs Insanity". Preys on the primal fear of doubting one's own existence. Has some unintentional funny scenes but that just adds to the 90's charm. Love the twist at the ending and Crazy Sam Neill is always enjoyable. A great watch.
| Inner Demons (2014) | 3/5 | Fake Documentary | 2010s | A college student is suffering from a heroine addiction and a documentary crew steps in to film her intervention. But it may not be the drugs causing her change in personality and violent outbursts but something more sinister. | Has some really fantastic shots and camera tricks throughout the movie. Gives a strong, cohesive explaination of why no one believes in her being possessed yet also gives a valid reason to why she turned to drugs in the first place. Drags a bit during the finale but has a solid ending that was wonderfully shocking.
| Innkeepers (2011) | 3/5 | Haunting | 2010s | A small hotel is closing and it's only 2 staff members decide to use their last days to see if the hotel is haunted. Same director as The Sacrament & House of the Devil - Ti West | A good slow burn that allows us to get to know our main leads very well. Some good build ups during the beginnng and middle of the movie but the actual tension begins during the last 30 minutes. Movie suffers a lot from being VERY DARK during some of the more intense moments. Abigious ending up to interpretation which may turn some people off.
| Insidious (2010) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A little boy's soul is torn from his body by a red-faced demon. His family hires an elderly psychic to help guide the boy's soul back home. | Great atmosphere - using long takes and music queues to build suspense and terror. Lin Shaye is an absolutely delight as Elise Rainier and Patrick Wilson is wonderful as the tortured Josh Lambert. A fantastic classic horror movie.
| Insidious: Chapter 3 | 2/5 | Haunting | 2015 | Elise begins here journey as a paranormal investigator. She helps a young woman face off against a ghastly, angry spirit while also facing her own reservations. | The weakest of the four movies but still worth a watch. As always, Lin Shaye is a gem to watch and seeing her relationship grow with Specs and Tucker is entertaining the watch. The primary demon has a fantastic design but movie seems to lack in the scares department and feels a bit lackluster compared to the others.
| Insidious: The Last Key (2018) | 4/5 | Haunting | 2010s | As a child, Psychic Elise accidentally released a "key face" demon that murdered her mother. Now she must return to her former house to face the demon least others suffer the same fate. | Has a great murder-mystery angle that drives a majority of the movie. Adds a different flair to the usual style of the franchise. The Key-Mouth ghost is a delightfully eerie addition to the Insidious saga and our three heroes (Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell, and Angus Sampson) are, as always, the highlight of the movie. The best Insidious not directed by James Wan.
| Intruder (1989) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | Grocery Store workers are hunted down by a mysterious killer who wants everyone dead. Appearences by Ted Raimi, Sam Raimi, and Bruce Campbell. | Movie takes its time establishing the characters and their friendships with one another. Has some creative camera placement to obscure the killer. Good use of red herrings and some really fun kills that keep getting better as the movie goes on. Does nothing too special but still a fun watch.
| Invoked (2015) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Five friends visit a secluded island in the country side to host a private Halloween party. When a "ouija-like" game goes wrong, they find themselves haunted by evil spirits. | The movie's biggest downfall stems from the fact that the cast constantly talk over themselves. While this plays out realistically and sounding less scripted, it still produces a lot of noise that is hard to understand. However, the last third of the movie is done very well, with some good tension, atmosphere, and jump scares. Generic but not terrible.
| IT: Chapter 2 (2019) | 2/5 | Monster | 2010s | 27 years after the events of the first movie, the Losers return to Derry Maine to put an end to Pennywise the Clown once and for all. | While the cast is stellar, they don't seem able to capture the magic that their kid countparts were able to. Scarsgard's performance is still fantastic but the overuse of CGI and weird comedic beats ruin a lot of the movie's tension. The ending battle is too silly to be taken seriously. Fine enough but still a weak conclusion to an amazing first half.
| Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2008) | 4/5 | Monster | 2000s | A troubled young man still mourning the childhood loss of his family now has to deal with his professor (Robert Englund) being turned into a monster. | Love seeing Robert Englund play more than just a one-scene character. The acting is very good, the story interesting and the pacing perfect. An action-packed, gory finale is the cherry on top. Plus it is 100% Practical effects! Only negative would be that the action doesn't start until the last 25 minutes of the movie.
| Jack Frost (1997) | 2/5 | Slasher | 90s | An escaped psychopath, Jack Frost, ends up getting transformed into a living snowman when he is doused with genetical material. He uses his new powers to continue his murder rampage. | The idea had potential but just falls flat. That said, there are moments of stupid fun that occur throughout this ridiculous movie. Could be considered "So bad, it's good" by some people so please check it out for yourself first..
| Jack Frost 2 (2000) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2000s | Jack frost is back and this time he is on vacation! The killer snowman ends up on an tropical island where he continues his killing spree. Now with killer snowballs! | You're getting exactly what you'd expect from Jack Frost sequel. The dialogue is bad, the special effects are awful, and the story nonsensical. It's stupidity works, however, as it keeps you interested enough to see what happens next.
| Jacob's Ladder (2019) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2010s | A former marine discovers that other vets have turned up dead after taking a mysterious drug. When his deceased brother is discovered alive, the marine begins to investigate the truth of the matter. This leads him down a spiraling path of madness and insanity - to the point where he can no longer distingush fantasy from reality. | Movie is a bit muddled. It starts off as a mystery with the drugs but then moves into a story about PTSD, before finally slipping into a "what is real, what is fake" storyline. The acting is good enough and the final act is easily the most interesting part of of the movie but overall just feels mediocre. It doesn't help that the movie is visually VERY dark which makes it hard to see what is going on.
| Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | Jason Voorhees is killed. Now his soul begins hopping person to person while looking for a way to ressurect his body. Meanwhile a young woman is revealed to be a member of the Voorhees bloodline. As such she is the only one capable of putting an end to Jason once and for all. | Jason Goes to Hell takes a lot of liberities the the "established lore". However the result is a stupidly fun, violent, and nonsensical movie that does not take itself too seriously. Has some fantastic kills, over the top gore, and a pretty fun final act.
| Jason X (2001) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2000s | In the distant future, a group of space students discover a cryogentically frozen Jason. They decide to bring him on board but soon realize that it was a very bad idea. | Not the best Jason movie nor the worse. Definetly one of the cheesiest. Does not take itself seriously which works in the movie's favor. Has good kills, good humor, and a fantastically silly ending that somehow works.
| Jaws (1975) | 5/5 | Creature | 70s | A small beach town is terrorized by a Man Eating shark. To make matters worse, their Mayor refuses to do anything about it. | The shark movie every other shark movie should try to strive for. We see very little of the shark until the very end and the payoff is wonderful. Solid story, solid acting, solid suspense from start to finish. A classic for a reason.
| Jaws 2 (1978) | 3/5 | Creature | 70s | A great white shark returns to terrorize the small town of Amity. People get eaten while those from the first movie try to stop it. | An unnecessary sequel but a competent one. A good, suspensful continuation of JAWS that expands upon the characters who survived. Great on the suspense though light on the gore. A decent followup overall.
| Jaws 3D (1983) | 2/5 | Creature | 80s | A great white shark gets trapped inside a Sea World lagoon. People get eaten while others try to stop it. | Movie is passable for what it is. At this point it is difficult to make JAWS interesting so the Sea World premise helps. Unfortunately that premise cannot save it from being predictable and dull. The special effects were pretty bad even by 80s standards. Decent enough for a viewing or two.
| Jaws 4: The Revenge (1987) | 2/5 | Creature | 80S | A great white shark terrorizes the Bahamas. People get eaten while others try to stop it. | A lackluster end to the JAWS saga. Focused more on family drama than the actual shark. Some odd story choices including our main character having flashbacks to events she never witnessed. Strongly hinted that she and the shark had some kind of psychic connection. Not an awful movie but an awful JAWS movie.
| Jeepers Creepers (2001) | 3/5 | Monster | 2000s | Darry and his sister Trish are traveling home for spring break when they notice what looks like a man dumping a body in an abandoned church. Their investigation uncovers the existance of an ancient monster known as The Creeper who feeds on people ever 23 years. | The Creeper is hands done one of the coolest modern monsters. It's design, it's intelligence, and it's brutality makes it quite memorable. The movie itself is pretty creative though it suffers from pacing issues and an ebrupt ending. **DIRECTED BY VICTOR SALVA**
| Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003) | 2/5 | Monster | 2000s | A school bus full of highschoolers become the next target for the Creeper. Meanwhile a local farmer seeks revenge on the Creeper for murdering his son the day prior. Takes place 3 days after the previous movie. | Slow-paced with a cast of generic teenagers, Creepers 2 lacks the creativity and suspense of the first movie. It does have some pretty memorable kills though. **DIRECTED BY VICTOR SALVA**
| Jennifer's Body (2009) | 4/5 | Possession | 2000s | A satanic human sacrifice goes wrong resulting in the victim (Megan Fox) becoming a succubus. She terrorizes the male student body at her high school while her best friend tries to figure out how to stop her. | A cheeky horror comedy with some funny dialogue, gory kills, and excellent one-liners. Megan Fox is wonderful as sympathic antagonist and her friendship/rivally right Amanda Seyfried has great chemistry.
| Jessabelle (2014) | 2/5 | Haunting | 2010s | After a car accident ruins her life, a young woman goes back home only to discover an evil entity waiting for her. VHS tapes a plenty. | Okay premise but lacking any real scares or character development. Weak twist. Overall very standard.
| John Dies at the End (2016) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Two friends uncover a multidimensional conspiracy involving a chemical that provides its user supernatural powers. Based off a book series with the same name. | Fans of the book may enjoy the movie better but for those unfamilair, the movie feels oddly disjointed. Time skips, flashbacks, flash forwards, sudden location shifts - it is all a bit jarring. The quality takes a huge dive during the final half hour resulting in horrible blue-screen and worse cgi.
| Jugface (2013) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A backwoods community worships a strange mud pit that possesses healing powers. In exchange for its healing powers, they must sacrifice someone from their village - chosen by the pit through pottery molded in the shape of that person's face. | Great atmosphere with a sense of dread but can be a bit slow on occasions. The mythology of the Pit, the way sacrifices are chosen, and the "Pit Monster" itself are all very well done.
| June 9 (2008) | 1/5 | Found Footage | 2000s | Teenagers prank a small town only to get caught up in a cult ritual. | No real suspense until very end of movie. Mostly just footage of teens pranking random people and screwing around. Pretty pointless for a majority of the film.
| Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) | 5/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | Alien Clowns arrive to a small town on Earth with the sole purpose of wrapping people in cotton candy cacoons and drinking their blood. | One of the best, if not the best, horror movies about clowns ever made. The designs for the clowns are legit creepy and disturbing to look at. The way the movie incorperates clown antics (balloon animals, pies to the face, shadow puppets) with murder is as creative as it is funny.
| Killer Sofa (2019) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A possessed recliner falls in love with a young woman and starts murdering anyone who gets too close to her. | Surprisingly well done. The movie takes its subject manner seriously which keeps it interesting. Some funny moments, some eerie moments, and better than it deserves to be. Who knew a recliner could be creepy?
| KillJoy (2000) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | A year after a gang banger murders an innocent man, a supernatural clown appears to hunt down everyone involved with the death. | Is just over an hour and feels like an extended Tales from the Crypt episode. Acting is rough, line delivery is laughable, and the kills decent. KillJoy is the best thing about the movie and is a fantastically corny villain. Basically a clown version of the Leprechaun.
| KnifeCorp (2021) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2020s | A group of door-to-door knife salesmen encure the wrath of a tempermental ex-cop (Kane Hodder). They must now use the very knives they were trying to sell as weapons to defend themselves against the madman. | Nothing wrong with the production value, kills, or acting as they are all of good quality. Movie suffers from not knowing whether it wants to be a horror comedy or a serious slasher. The motivations are muddled and the characters run in circles for the majority of the film. Still worth 1 watch for Kane's performance, however.
| Lady Vengeance (2005) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2000s | A woman is falsely accused of a crime and is sentenced to prison. She spends her time acting as a model prisoner while at the same time planning revenge on the man who framed her. Directed by Park Chan-Wook. | A slower burn than Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. This movie takes its time establishing the two main characters, primarily focusing on their daily lives and struggles while leading up to the quietly violent conclusion. Personally feel this movie will resonate stronger with those who suffered sudden loss in their personal lives.
| Laid to Rest (2009) | 3/5 | Splatter | 2000s | A woman wakes up in a coffin with no memory. She discovers that she is currently being hunted down by a psychopath in a Chrome Skull mask who mercilessly slaughters everyone who gets in his way. | This is 100% for Gore Hounds. The practical effects are top notch and the kills are brutal, grisly, and creative. The story only exists to lead us to the next kill scene but it is still well acted. Don't expect anything groundbreaking for the plot but do expect beautifully horrific gore.
| Lake Mungo (2008) | 2/5 | Fake Documentary | 2000s | A documentary about the drowning of a young woman. Movie follows interviews with the family and friends as they investigate her death and supposed hauntings of her ghost. | Good story and atmosphere throughout. Did not really feel any "scares" in the traditional sense. Created a growing sense of dread throughout the film.
| Last House on the Left (2009) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2000s | Two girls are kidnapped by escaped convicts and dragged into the forest where they are brutally raped and beaten. The convicts end up staying at house of one of the girls' parents. Soon the parents discover who the convicts are and decide to extract revenge upon them. | While does not have the grittiness or slow burn of the original, it makes up for it with cinematography and violence. The second half of the movie that takes place with the parents has plenty of tension. Seeing them piece together what happened then get their revenge is satisfying. Overall a good remake.
| Late Fee (2009) | 2/5 | Anthology | 2000s | A couple rent some "banned" movies under the rules that they must return them before midnight…or else. Guess what? They don't. | Absolutely bizarre. Once it hits the 30 minute mark, the movie goes from bland to batshit insane. Not a good movie but has to be seen to be believed. One part sexploitation film, one part hentai, one part acid trip; all insane.
| Lavalantua (2015) | 4/5 | Giant Animal | 2010s | Lava spewing spiders rise from the earth to destroy everything in their path. Stars Steve Guttenburg, Micheal Winslow, Leslie Easterbrook, and Marion Ramsey. | Major points for mini Police Academy Reunion. Hilarious, meta, and rather well done. One of SyFy's best monster movies to date. Can tell that the cast was having a lot of fun filming this movie.
| Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 (1990) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | A 'reboot' of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Leatherface and his extended family hunt down and torture a trio of motorists after they witness an attack on a hitchhiker named Tex. Starring Viggo Mortenson, Kate Hodge, and Ken Foree. | While not as gritty as the original or over-the-top as the sequel, Leatherface still manages to hold its own thanks to the inclusion of Leather's family. It has some pacing problems and can get visually dark but still manages to be a solid sequel to the original franchise.
| Leprechaun (1993) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | Warwick Davis plays a malevolent leprechaun who is looking for his stolen gold. He targets a family who he believes stole it and proceeds to torture and kill them until he has every last coin back in his possession. | A solid fantasy-slasher film thanks to Warwick's unforgettable performance as the Leprechaun. Where the movie has some issue, none are bad enough to detract from the film overall.
| Leviathan (1989) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | An underwater exploration team is trapped when a mysterious sea creature invades their ship. Seemingly impossible to kill, this parasite is able to use the bodies of its victims to replicate itself. Now the crew must figure out a way off their ship before the creature finished them off | While not as memoriable as other sea-creature movies, it still has some solid practical effects and legit tension. If anything, the movie suffers from being a generic version of superior sea-monster-based horror movies. Does nothing new or unique but is still a good watch.
| LifeForce (1984) | 4/5 | Vampire | 80s | Several astronaughts uncover a mysterious spaceship that has been hiding within the tail of Haley's Comet. By exploring the ship they unwittingly release a trio of dangerous "space vampires" who come to earth to feast upon the souls of the living. | One of the most unique takes on the vampire genre. The acting feels a bit emotionless but only due to the scientific nature of how the characters view the situations at hand. Visually the movie is a treat thanks to its wonderful sci-fi aethestic for the alien ship and use of practical effects. Combine these with a crazy and violent ending and you have yourself a zany treat.
| Little Shop of Horrors (1986) | 4/5 | Creature | 80s | A nerdy florist discovers an alien plant. He soon discovers that this plant needs not water to survive, but human flesh. Fearing for his life, he has no choice but to give this singing monster what it wants. | Has some slow moments but that is easily overlooked thanks to the stellar all star cast, the charasmatic performance of Rock Moranis and Levi Stubbs, and kick-ass music. One of the great modern musicals.
| Look Away (2018) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Lonely girl trades places with a demonic mirror image in order to escape her sadness. Mirror Mirror version decides to get revenge on those who hurt the original. | Nice take on the "evil twin" concept. Open ended - up for interpretation. Very well acted by main character. Takes its time with the story and character development.
| Lords of Salem (2012) | 3/5 | WitchCraft | 2010s | A Disc Jockey (Sheri Moon Zombie) discovers a record that has a strange effect on the women who listen to it. Suffering from insomnia, she slowly decends into depression and madness while three mysterious women prep her for sinister means. Written and Directed by Rob Zombie. | This is Rob Zombie's "Hereditary". The movie is visually beautiful to look at and the acting is on point for everyone involved. Totally different and a lot more artistic than his other films with a slow burn that pays off wonderfully at the end. Some tiny moments of odd choices but none of which bring the movie or its tension down whatsoever.
| Lost Footage of Leah Sullivan (2018) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Woman investigating a cold case murder gets more than she expected. | Great production value with a neat concept. Has some great "just out of focus" tension building moments but starts to devolve into a bland second half that is way too dark to see anything. Ending feels like a let-down
| Magic (1978) | 5/5 | Thriller | 70s | The line between Ventriloquist and dummy begins to blur as he begins losing his grip on reality. | FANTASTIC performance by Anthony Hopkins. Legit tense moments mixed with eerie back-and-forths between Hopkins and his Ventriloquist dummy. Daresay say that his performance here outshines Silence of the Lambs.
| Malatesta's Carnival of Blood (1973) | 2/5 | Slasher | 70s | A Husband and Wife infiltrate a wonky carnival in order to uncover the truth of their son's disappearance. What they don't know is that the carnival is home to flesh eating ghouls who feed on unexpecting guests and employees. | The bastard child of Manos: Hands of Fate, Night of the Living Dead, and People under the Stairs. A bit hard to follow due the editing. The set designer had to be on drugs for the last half of the movie. Weirdly entertaining but not for everyone.
| Malignant (2019) | 0/5 | Anthology | 2010s | Several stories that someone thought were scary. | The only reason to see this movie is the fact that the audio for the 2nd short story is a complete mess. The sound effects are literally muted. The entire movie beyond that is forgettable, uncreative, and dull.
| Malignant (2021) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2020s | A woman discovers that her terrible nightmares are actually visions of a powerful, supernatural killer who is out for revenge. Written and Directed by James Wan. | A violent movie with a deliciously twisted sense of humor, Malignant is a love letter to the absurdity of 70s and 80s horror movies. A high-budget B-film that uses all of James' talent - Malignant is a one-of-a-kind trip that must be seen to be believed.
| Mama (2013) | 2/5 | Haunting | 2010s | Two little girls are abandoned in the woods. They are discovered 5 years later and sent to live with their Uncle and his girlfriend. Unfortunately it seems that something wicked has followed - an entity the girls call MAMA. | Great performances by the female lead Annabelle and the child actors. Some good shots in the first half that really help build the tension. Several characters including the Uncle and Aunt were pretty useless and don't contribute to the movie at all. Mama's creep factor was sadly undercut thanks to the abundance of CGI. Still worth a watch.
| Man Thing (2005) | 2/5 | Monster | 2000s | Based off the Marvel Comic of the same name, a small town is being tormented by a gigantic beast hidden in the swamp lands. | The movie starts off well - with classic set designs, some interesting ideas, and a fun premise but it all falls apart after the first half hour. Movie drags to a crawl by the second half. The scenes are just way to dark to see what is going on. And we don't get to see the title monster until the last 10 minutes of the movie. Some decent gore sprinkled throughout though.
| Mandy (2018) | 4/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | An evil cult grows obsessed with Mandy, an author and artist who lives in the woods with her husband Red. After summoning a demonic biker gang from hell to kidnap Mandy, Red goes on an LSD fueled rampage to extract his revenge. Starring Nicholas Cage. | One of Cage's best performances as Mandy lets him fully unleash his wild and crazy side. Just a roller coaster of madness complete with beautiful visuals and unflinching violence.
| Maniac Cop (1988) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | A corrupt cop comes back from the dead to hunt down and murder those who wronged him. Police officers Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) and Teresa Mallory (Lauren Landon) must hunt down and stop the Maniac Cop before their reputations are ruined. | A solid 80s movie that tends to drag in some places while excelling in others. Bruce, as always, is the highlight of the movie. Has some decent kills and a great ending chase scene.
| Manos Returns (2018) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Four young adults get lost during a road trip and end up at Valley Lodge - home of a cult that worships a hand-based god. A sequel to the 1966 movie Manos: The Hands of Fate. | Admire the fact they got 3 of the actors from the '66 Manos (Manos, the daughter, and mother). Somehow the acting and storyline are just as bad as the original. To it's credit - it tries to be somewhat different near the end. At least we get to hear Torgo's Theme again.
| Manos: The Hands of Fates (1966) | 0/5 | Supernatural | 60s | A mother, father, and their daughter get lost while on a road trip. They end up at a Valley Lodge -home of a polygamous cult that worships Manos and his Hands of Fate. | Starts off "so bad, it's good" before devolving into a boring slog. The movie suffers on every level due to bad camera work, terrible direction, and sub-par acting. Do yourself a favor and watch the MST3K version instead.
| Martyrs (2008) | 2/5 | Torture | 2000s | A young woman's quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tortured her as a child. This quest leads her down a road of horrible violence, depravity, and madness as she is pushed to he breaking point. | The revenge portion of the movie was so good. It was intense, it was unflinching, it was cruel, it was pure insanity. This all goes down hill once the "Villains" are introduced during the 3rd act. Films grows rather dull afterwards.
| Mausoleum (1983) | 3/5 | Possession | 80s | After the death of her mother, a girl is possessed by an ancient demon who haunts her bloodline | Ever wanted to see demonic breasts eat a man? Now you have. B-movie quality with a lot of kills, cheesey makeup, and some wonderfully corny dialogue. Rather fun overall.
| May (2002) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2000s | May is a very awkward young woman who has trouble making friends. After several failed attempts at both friendship and love, she decides to follow her mother's advice: "If you cannot find a friend…make one." | While the ending is a bit long, the movie as a whole is very well done. Angela Bettis steals the show as May - everything about her performance is believable and eerie. You sympathize yet fear her. Really love the symbolism seen throughout.
| Mayhem (2017) | 5/5 | Infection | 2010s | A flu-like virus causes people to lose all inhibitions. The latest outbreak occurs in a coperation where Derek Cho has been recently terminated. He teams up with another person seeking revenge, Melanie Cross, to fight his way up to the CEO's floor in order to plead his case. Starring Steven Yeun and Samara Weaving. | Funny, bloody, with just enough social commentary to keep it relevant. Seven and Samara have wonderful chemistry and it is an absolute joy watching them fight their way through the waves of cynical assholes that make up the office. What the Belko Experiment should have been.
| MeatBall Machine (2005) | 3/5 | Splatter | 2000s | Alien parasites use humans as their personal gundams (transforming them into bio-mechanical monsters) to battle one another to the death. | This is a live action anime in every sense of the word. The story is absurd, the gore over-the-top, and violence cartoony. The human storyline is actually quite thin and serves nothing more than to bring the movie to the final battle which takes up the last 30 minutes of the movie. Very entertaining despite its weirdness.
| Mega Piranha (2010) | 3/5 | Giant Animal | 2010s | Gigantic Piranha's escape the amazon rain forest to reign terror upon nearby cities | Absolutely hilarious. The fish smash into buildings before exploding. Beautifully ridiculous and absurd in all the right places.
| Mirror Mirror (1990) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 90s | A high school outcast discovers a demonic mirror in her own home. Once she realizes what it can do, she attempts to harness the power for her own desires. | Carrie meets the Craft. Pretty standard story (outcast picked on then discovers powers in order to extract her revenge) but still does it rather well. Good body count, good kills. Overall pretty good despite being the same story we've seen before.
| Moby Dick 2010 (2010) | 2/5 | Giant Animal | 2010s | Modern retelling of the classic novel. Naval Captain Ahab and his crew use a high-tech submarine to hunt down and attempt to kill the giant white whale that took his leg decades prior. An Asylum Film. | While the CGI is terrible and the concept inane, the fact that most of the cast takes their roles so seriously makes it a hoot to watch. Barry Bostwick plays Captain Ahab with a lot more fervor and passion than the role needs and is an absolute delight to watch. Worth at least one viewing while drunk.
| Monkey Shines (1988) | 4/5 | Creature | 80s | A quadriplegic named Allen is given a genetically modified helper monkey to help him around the house. The monkey begins to grow attached to Allen - causing harm and even death to those who upset him. Directed by George A Romero. | Misery with a monkey. The animal acting is simply phenomenal - with the monkey providing a wide range of emotions and reactions to the world around it. She also is quite scary. The slower burn allows for good character introduction and growth with the third act providing most of the horror. Some silly moments near the end but overall very solid film.
| Most Likely to Die (2015) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2010s | While planning their high-school reunion, a bunch of young adults are hunted down and slaughtered by a mysterious killer | Silly and creative kills make up for the bland cast and generic storyline. Love the fact that the weapon is a graduation cap covered in razor blades.
| Mothman (2010) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A group of friends accidentally drown someone during a night swimming and drinking. 10 years later, one of the friends (Jewel Staite) returns to the small town only to discover that the group is being hunted by what they believe to be the Mothman. A SyFy Channel Movie. | Honestly this is nowhere as bad as was expected. Very well done for a SYFY Channel movie - good to decent acting, some respectable gore, and very well paced. If this was made in the 90s, it would probably have been better received. The CGI is absolutely terrible though and the low budget really shows during the final act. Creators have zero idea what the Mothman is and it shows.
| Mountaintop Motel Massacre (1986) | 1/5 | Slasher | 80s | After being released from a psych-ward, the elderly Evelyn goes on a killing spree at an old motel she used to run. | No suspense, very little storyline, bad character decisions and no real killer motivation. So-so makeup and the weakest final fight ever.
| Murder Party (2005) | 3/5 | Splatter | 2000s | A young man is invited to a Halloween "Murder Party" which lives up to its name. Now kidnapped, he must now endure the horribly enept group of artists-turn-would-be-murderers as they plot their kill. A Dark Comedy. | Not a laugh-out-loud comedy but still rather amusing. Definitely keeps your interest from start to finish although the third act seems to be a bit drawn out. Good kills and fun characters. Longest extension cord in the world.
| Mutilator (1984) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | College students go to a condo near the beach for Fall Break. Little do they know that a killer has taken residence in the condo's garage. | Appreciated the fact that the characters are actual friends and not frenemies that you see in many slashers. The plot is razor thin but the kills are absolutely brutal making them the highlight of the movie.
| My Bloody Valentine (2009) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | In the small town of Harmony, a psychotic coal miner kills 22 people with a pickaxe. Now, 10 years later, a new madman has picked up the mantle to continue the killing spree. | Sometimes you just want a good ol' fashion slasher movie and this fits the bill. Has a good "who dun it" storyline that keeps the movie moving at a brisk pace. Not to mention it's high body count, great kills, and some good practical effects. Some of the "3D" shots are cheesey as hell though.
| Netherworld (1992) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 90s | A young man inherits his father's land and is tasked to seek out a Magical Prostitute who may have the power to bring his dead father back to life. | The movie just kinda exists. The acting is passable and there are one or two good kills but it takes ages to get to the point. For some reason, the sound of an Eagle plays constantly throughout the movie and the hero is literally saved by the power of boners.
| Night of the Demons (2009) | 2/5 | Possession | 2000s | A group of friends decide to go to a Halloween party hosted in a mansion with a deadly past. After the party dies down, the friends are attacked by ancient demons that need their bodies in order to return to the land of the living. | Great gore and two of the demons had really good makeup. The rest not so much. The demon transformation effect was horrible and the final girl made several idiotic decisions at the end. Had potential but squandered it at the end. Fun seeing Edward Furlough again though.
| Nightbreed: The Director's Cut (1990) | 3/5 | Monster | 90s | Aaron Boone has dreams of Midian, a city were monsters are accepted. His obsession leads him to finding the city. Unfortunately, outside forces also seek Midian with the purpose of destroying all that live within. Aaron must accept the monster inside him if he hopes to defend Midian. Directed by Clive Barker. | Please see the Director's Cut of the movie as it is the real verson Clive Barker wanted to show. Barker's creativity really shines with the monster designs, makeup, and storyline. Does slow down at times and cans till be a bit hard to follow. While not perfect, still is a great addition to Clive Barker fans.
| Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) | 4/5 | Slasher | 80s | Fred Kruger was a child killer whom parents burned alive. Years later, he returns as a dream demon who wishes nothing more than to murder the children of those who killed him by killing them in their dreams. | While not one of the first supernatural slasher movies, it is easily the one that had the most polish in terms of kills, effects, and characters. Also has one of the most memorable kills in slasher films - from the murder on the ceiling and walls to the bedroom blood geyser.
| Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (1985) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | Freddy is back but this time he is possessing the body of a troubled young man. Stuck between reality and the dream-realm, Jesse Walsh begins questioning his sanity as he thinks he is the one murdering his friends instead of Freddy. | A very unusual sequel to the original movie. It is a lot more insane with its story-telling, ideas, and kills. But for some reason, it works very well and watching Jesse Walsh lose his mind is entertaining as all get out.
| Nine Lives (2004) | 0/5 | Possession | 2000s | Nine friends are stranded in an isolated Scottish manor house with a centuries-old spirit. Co-Starring Paris Hilton | No redeeming value whatsoever. The dialogue and character decisions are insufferable. Literally every character dies by a single stab in the stomach. One of the worse Lionsgate Movies ever seen. Ever. Ever ever ever.
| No Sleep: Fragments of Horror (2021) | 0/5 | Anthology | 2020s | A series of VERY (see 30 seconds long) Short films that are supposed to be scary. | I cannot recommend this - not even to see how bad it is. Most of these shorts are just over 30 seconds long and almost all of them involve the "monster" suddenly appearing behind "main character". It is a waste of time and gives the Anthology genre a bad name. All the shorts are by the same director and mostly same actors - feels like a highlight reel of bad ideas instead of an actual movie.
| Octogames (2022) | 2/5 | Torture | 2020s | A social media influencer (based off of MrBeast) holds a contest where 8 players must compete in a series of children games. Winner gets 150 million followers on social media. If they lose, they die. | This is the knock-off, 99 cent store version of Squid Games - with CGI blood, an unimaginative social-media based storyline, and lackluster kills. At least the actors try their best with what they are given. Not the worse Ripoff movie ever made, but not the best either.
| Oculus (2013) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Two adult siblings believe that an antique mirror is responsible for the destruction of their family. Their sense of time, space, and reality become warped as they try to capture proof of the mirror's supernatural abilities. | Does a fantastic job with its character development and world building. The movie plays a lot on time and reality manipulation that really adds a sense of dread throughout. Highly recommend to those who enjoy wondering what is real and what is fantasy.
| Odd Thomas (2013) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Odd Thomas can see the dead and uses those powers to help solve crimes in the small city he lives in. When he discovers a doomsday cult, he needs to find out the potential killers before it is too late. | Has a few interesting tonal shifts. Really love that Odd's friends and family, and even the dectective knows he has powers and believes him. Good change of the trope. A bit long but has a very satisfying ending. Makes you want to read the books.
| Office Uprising (2018) | 3/5 | Infection | 2010s | A weapon manufacturer's latest product - an energy drink - has unexpected side effects. Mainly turning people into super aggressive corporate psychopaths. Now one of the employees needs to find his friends and escape. | This is what Belko Experiment should have been. Even when infected, the "office culture" is never interrupted - just dialed up to 100 and super violent. Some fun stunt work, creative action scenes, and genuine humor makes this an entertaining romp. Only real negative would be the very cheap CGI special effects.
| Once Bitten (1985) | 3/5 | Vampire | 80s | Teenager Mark (Jim Carry) is trying to lose his virginity. In his attempts to do so, he attracts the attention of a vampire Countess who needs to drink the blood of a virgin to stay young. Now Mark needs to overcome his growing vampirism in order to save his own life. | Classic 80s sex comedy. Early Jim Carry is a delight to watch and while the movie is not gut-busting funny, it is still amusing from start to finish. Always a sucker for an 80s dance battle which happens midway through the movie.
| Orphan (2009) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2000s | Devastated by the loss of their unborn baby, a couple look into adoption. They end up adopting a little girl who has a mysterious, and dangerous, secret. | The manipulation of Esther to her adoptive parents is cruel and thrilling to watch. The makeup design and the twist at the end of the movie is supurb. Even if you know the twist, the acting, pacing, and chilling storyline will keep you on the edge of your seat.
| Ouija Shark (2018) | 1/5 | Haunting | 2010s | A no-budget film about a womanwho finds a "ouija board" while out swimming at a lake. When she and her friends use it during a get-together, they accidentally summon the spirit of a man-eating shark. | The "Dr-Strange" style final fight is the highlight of this movie. It is everything you expect this movie to be. It has horrible special effects, very little plot, useless scenes that exist only to pad the run-time, and iffy dialogue. There is still something compelling about how bad this movie is - would be great to watch with friends while wasted. The "twist" at the very end is completely unnecessary.
| OuijaGeist (2018) | 0/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A ouija board conjures a demon who inconveniences the girl who used it. | The movie mostly consists of characters sitting around talking. The audio mixing is all over the place with the music drowning out the characters' voices. Really has nothing much to offer in terms of characters, story, or scares.
| P2 (2007) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2000s | A woman tries to leave a parking garage only to be stalked and hunted by a psychopath who is obsessed with her. | Good idea but there are a lot of character decisions that make this movie somewhat frusterating. Kills are few but well done and the actor playing the villain does a great job being disgustingly despicable.
| Pandorum (2009) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 2000s | Astronauts Payton and Bower wake up with no memory of their mission or where they are. To make matters worse, an alien race has invaded their massive spaceship and have begun killing and eating those still in hypersleep. Now they must figure out what their mission is any how to survive the onslaught. | A strong suspensful opening that leads into a great game of cat and mouse between the protagonists and the monsters. The action scenes are done well and the characters are quite likable. The ending makes the movie.
| Paranormal Entity (2009) | 0/5 | Found Footage | 2000s | A family of 3 believe they are being haunted by the ghost of their dead father/husband. So, naturally, they record everything to see what they can catch on video. An Ayslum Film. | An absolute bore. The acting is bland and there is zero suspense. The ending is sudden, the story generic and razor thin, and somehow looks MORE lowbuget than the movie it was mimicking - Paranormal Activity.
| Patchwork (2015) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | Three women have been killed and their bodies stitched together. Once revived by a mad scientists, they discover that their minds are still intact and that they are now sharing one body. Together, the trio go on a violent rampage while seeking those responsible for their murders. | A surprisingly well made and hilarious horror comedy. The physical comedy of the single body acting as if there are 3 minds controlling it is fantastic and the writing is just on point. Never gets too cartoony with the idea which helps keep the movie moving strong.
| Pay the Ghost (2015) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A man's son vanishes during Halloween. A year later he starts getting messages from his son from another world. Now he must face off against the supernatural to get his son back. Stars Nicholas Cage. | Supernatural Entity does NOT mess around. No squeaky doors or rocking chairs here. Entity goes straight for the kills! Well acted, good storyline; overall really well done.
| Phantasm (1979) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 70s | A teenager named Mike discovers that the local mortician is reanimating the dead as shrunken down "zombies". When the Tall Man realizes that Mike knows, he begins to relentlessly hunt Mike and those closest to him down. | Don't really know what to make of this movie. Angus Scrimm as the Tall Man is pretty intimidating but doesn't fees underutilized. The sountrack and editing really push the etheral feel of the film. Still, it feels a bit disjointing and nonsensical which is part of its dream-like storyline. Please watch and judge for yourself.
| Pit and the Pendulum (1961) | 5/5 | Haunting | 60s | Upon hearing news of his sister's death, Francis Barnard (John Kerr) visits the castle of his brother in law Nicholas Medina (Vincent Price). There he tries to determine the true cause of his sister's death while Nicholas struggles to maintain his sanity. | Probably one of Vincent Price's best roles as the emotionally fragile Nicholas. But it is not just Price giving it his all, but the entirity of the movie's cast. Combine this with beautifully gothic set pieces and a haunting soundtrack and you have yourself a classic.
| Pitchfork (2017) | 1/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Friends go to a family farm only to be stalked by a killer with a pitchfork for a hand. Has a random music video in middle of movie. | Absolutely dreadful. Weak villain. Terrible characters. At least the music video in the middle of the movie was well done. Seriously - random music video is random
| Poltergeist II (1986) | 3/5 | Haunting | 80s | Taking place a year after the first movie, the Freeling family find themselves the target of evil supernatural forces. Led by an insane preacher (Julian Beck in his final role), this evil - also known as "The Beast" wishes to claim the soul of Carol Ann to bring about the Apocalypse. | While different tonally from the first movie, Poltergeist II continues to elicit suspense and terror thanks to the new threat brought upon by The Preacher. Julian Beck is absolutely terrifying as the Preacher and his dedication to the role is beyond reproach. Drags a bit and is an unnesscary sequel, but still entertaining to watch.
| Poltergeist III (1988) | 2/5 | Haunting | 80s | Fearing for her life, the Freelings have Carol Ann sent to her aunt and uncle who live in a high-rise complex. While there, she is haunted by malevolent forces led by the spirit of Rev Kane from the previous movie. | Poltergeist III suffers from being to similar to the previous film - with similar beats and threats. The writing suffers a bit from repetitive dialogue and constant use of character names. However, the special effects (all done on set) are absolutely fantastic and alone make the movie worth watching. Not terrible, but doesn't live up to its predecessors.
| Poltergiest (2015) | 1/5 | Haunting | 2010s | A family's new house is haunted by spirits who are attracted to the psychic energy of their youngest daughter. A remake of the 80s classic by Tobe Hooper. | Hard to judge it on its own merits when it tries so hard to recreate the original's most famous scenes. The family is unlikable and disingenuous. Rushes to get to key moments from the original while skipping over any of the character development or subtly that made the original so great. Does have a few interesting shots and new ideas but sadly they are too few and far between. The whole final act is just a rushed mess.
| Possum (2018) | 5/5 | Thriller | 2010s | A puppeteer returns home after losing his job. His sanity slowly begins to deteriorate as he desperately tries to rid himself of the horrifying puppet that he has created. Though, unbeknowst to him, something even more sinister stirs. | This is an artistic movie. It has very little dialogue and even less direct explaination to what is really going on. Most the movie involves the main character visiting different locations repeatidly. That all said - has a wonderfully dreadful atmosphere, and a great soundtrack. Tastes will vary on this film thanks to the slow pacing.
| Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007) | 2/5 | Fake Documentary | 2000s | Mockumentary showcasing the kidnapping, torture, and murder of several girls from a mysterious serial killer. Interviews with police and victims' families intercut with scenes of torture filmed by the killer himself. | Only a handful of the found footage was found to be "disturbing" whereas the rest of the movie felt slow. Good idea in its own right but was not as engaging as hoped it would be. Please See this for yourself to judge properly.
| Poultrygeist (2006) | 4/5 | Haunting | 2000s | A fast food restaruant has been built on an ancient burial ground. This results in zombified human/chicken hybrids rising from the dead to extract their gruesome revenge. A Troma Film. | Crass, violent, and downright disgusting; this has everything you'd hope to get from a Troma film. Entertaining from start to finish but be warned; no religion, race, or creed is free from mockery in this over-the-top horror comedy.
| Predators (2010) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | Several dangerous people find themselves being hunted on an alien planet. They must put aside their differences in order to survive. Stars Danny Trejo, Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, and Topher Grace. | While not perfect, this movie gives the audience exactly what they want to see - a bunch of killers fighting against a bunch of Predators. They use guns, swords, clubs - anything at their disposal to provide us with a fun edition to the Predator franchise.
| Pride, Prejudice, & Zombies (2016) | 3/5 | Zombie | 2010s | It's literally Pride & Prejudice but with zombies. Our characters are not only looking for (or avoiding) marriage but also hunting down and killing zombies at the same time. | This movie is stupidly awesome. The classic story seemlessly blends in with a zombie plague leading to some entertaining fight scenes. Like Seth's other work - Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter - this movie's greatest asset is the fact that it takes itself so seriously despite being so absurd.
| Project Metal Beast (1995) | 2/5 | Werewolf | 90s | A Special Ops soldier secures Werewolf blood and plans on using it to create the perfect super soldier that is one part werewolf and one part metal monster. Stars Barry Bostwick & Kane Hodder as the monster. | Takes an hour for the movie to start werewolfing and even there, takes another 15 minutes for the werewolf to start hunting people down. The costume has some cool features but still very rough. The death of the werewolf is best thing about the whole movie.
| Prom Night 2 (1987) | 3/5 | Possession | 80s | Prom Queen Mary Lou was accidentally set on fire after being caught cheating on her prom date. 20 years later she comes back to extract her revenge on the class of '87 by possessing the body of one of the students. | Has a very "Nightmare on Elm Street" Vibe to it - with hallucinations and crazy dream sequences. Fantastic performances, good soundtrack, fun kills, and an insane ending! Creepiest Rocking Horse in Existence!
| Prom Night IV (1992) | 1/5 | Slasher | 90s | Two couples ditch their prom in order to spend a romantic night at a summer house. They are then stalked by a psychotic priest who wishes to condemn them for their sins. | Truly believe that the writer forgot that this was a horror movie. It focuses more time on the main 2 couples dating or hitting on one another than it does Slashing. The initial confrontation only happens at the last 18 minutes of the movie but by that point, who cares?
| Prowler (1981) | 2/5 | Slasher | 80s | A mysterious killer in dressed in army gear hunts down and slaughters several highschool kids during a homecoming dance. | While the kills are spectacular, the story and pacing leaves a lot to be desired. Most of the movie consists of the main characters wandering around while looking for the killer. Killer's motivations are also never explained so the ending feels like a let down.
| Pulse (1988) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | A mysterious signal is causing electronics to go haywire. A young boy must convince his father and step-mother that something sinister is going on before it's too late. Starring a young Matthew & Joey Lawrence. | Great practical effects for when the eletronics go hay-wire. Has some good suspense, well executed concepts, and real tension. Really enjoyed it overall! A fun, simple, well made horror movie.
| Pumpkinhead (1988) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 80s | After the death of his son, a father (Lance Henriksen) summons a monster to extract revenge on the teenagers responsible. | Great atmosphere combined with fantastic practical effects for Pumpkinhead. The kills are on point, the pacing perfect, and has a decent story on top of it all. The Monster design is unique and hands down one of the best parts of the movie. Unfortunately it is also visually dark as well making some scenes difficult to watch.
| Pumpkinhead 4: Blood Feud (2007) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | The feud between the Hatfields and McCoys continue to this day. When the Hatfields accidentally kill Rocky McCoy's sister, Ricky seeks the help of Pumpkinhead to extract his vengeance. Lance Henriksen reprises his role as the cursed spirit of Ed Harley. | While no where near as good as the original, this direct-to-tv movie is surprisingly decent. Pumpkinhead is mostly practical (albeit stiff) and the kills are graphic and fun to watch. Not the best sequel ever made but passable.
| PuppetMaster (1989) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 80s | Puppetmaster Andre Toulon had the ability to bring his puppets to life. But when Nazis attack, Toulon is forced to commit suicide to prevent the secret from getting it. In the present, several people are invited to a hotel where someone claims to have learned Toulon's secrets. One by one they are hunted down by Toulon's puppets while the mysterious Puppetmaster watches. | Fans of killer puppets (Child's Play, Dolls, Demonic Toys) will love this movie. The kills are creative and fun and the mystery-centric storyline is engaging. However, the movie is very slow with the kills spread apart quite a bit. A good, but rough start, to the Puppetmaster franchise.
| PuppetMaster: Axis Rising (2002) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2000s | Nazis have captured the puppet Tunneler and are using him to create their own Puppet War Machines. Blade, Leech Woman, and PinHead must work together with two Americans to save Tunneler before the Nazi's work is complete. | We do not get a proper Puppet kill fest until the last 15 minutes of the film. Sadly, the budget of this movie means that every scene is a 1 room set, that the puppets are rarely used, and the special effects (Blood and muzzle flashes) look horrible. And of course the only 2 female puppets need to resort to scratching and slapping as opposed to using their abilities and weapons.
| PuppetMaster: Littlest Reich (2019) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A comic-book artist discovers a creepy doll that he decides to sell during a convention. It turns out that the doll belongs to Nazi war criminal Andre Toulon who had the power to animate this, and other dolls, to commit heinous murders. Despite his apparent death, the dolls continue to carry out his wishes - hunting any and all he considered "unworthy". | A modern take on 80s b-movies - can be seen as a love letter to fans of such movies. The cheapness of several scenes/kills only adds to the movie's charm. Gratuitous nudity and gore, fun and likable characters, and some genuine humor makes this a fantastic entry to the PupperMaster franchise.
| Queen of the Damned (2002) | 3/5 | Vampire | 2000s | Bored, Lestat the vampire creates a rock band that calls out the existance of vampires. This awakens the Vampire Queen Akasha who seeks to dominate humans and vampirse alike. Now the vampires must find a way to her and stop her newly crowned king Lestat before it is to late. | A picture-perfect product of its time. While the acting is quite good and the soundtrack stellar; the special effects and story have aged poorly. However these problems do not deter from an oddly entertaining, albeit very cheesy, movie.
| R.L. Stein's Hautning Hour: Don't Think About It. (2007) | 3/5 | Monster | 2000s | A high-school girl accidentally summons a two-headed beast while trying to scare her younger brother and school bully. Part of R.L. Stein's Haunting Hour series. | Thanks to the monster's practical puppeteering and effects, this is a fantastic 'introduction to horror' for younger audiences.
| Rabid (1977) | 3/5 | Infection | 70s | Motorcyclist Rose is involved in a terrible accident that leaves her needing skin grafts. The surgery leaves her with an insatiable appetite for human blood. Her victims turn rabid and violent, killing anyone and everyone in their path. Directed by David Cronenburg. | A slow burn with a surprisingly low body bount. Yet still provides an fascinating view of sexuality, panedmics, and manipulation. Not Cronenburg's strongest movies but still keeps you interested. Marilyn Chambers steals the show, however, with her range - going from innocent and weak to sexually strong and savage.
| RAW (2016) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2010s | After being forced to eat raw meat, a college student begins to crave human flesh. The hunger becomes unbearable leading her to commit horrible acts on the student body. | Some legit stomach-churning moments. The gore is above reproach and the overall concept is disgusting and twisted. Does not stick the landing though as a lot of suspension of disbelief is needed to explain how the main character is able to get away with what she does. Good ending twist though.
| Real Cases of Shadow People: The Sarah McCormick Story (2019) | 0/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Three friends go on a road trip to investigate "shadow people" - dark entities people see during the night. Documents the last known adventures of the friends before their own disappearance. | There is probably only 25 minutes of actual "investigation" footage in the entire movie. The rest is composed of the three friends goofing around during their road trip. The final 10 minutes is when the "horror" starts. However, it's filmed in near total darkness making it difficult to see what's going on.
| Re-Animator (1985) | 5/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | Medical Student Herbert West may have discovered a way to reanimated the dead. Unfortunately, a rival doctor intends to use this syrum for his own nefarious purposes. Loosely based off an H.P. Lovecraft story. | Jeffrey Combs is flawless as the chaotic-neutral Herbert West and Bruce Abbot and Barbara Crampton compliment his talent beautifully. Jaw-dropping practical effects, great storyline, fantastically paced, and all around a classic in every sense of the word.
| Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 2000s | GeneCo is a multibillion dollar company that provides organ transplants at a high price. If you cannot pay off your dept, they send a Repoman to reclaim your organs. A musical written by Terrance Zdunich and Darren Smith. | A fun musical with some catchy music, wonderful set pieces, and lots of dark humor. Anthony Head steals the show as the Repoman - being both frightening and funny at the same time. Has some pacing issues during the third act but overall still fun to watch.
| Restoration (2016) | 2/5 | Haunting | 2010s | Couple renovating a new house accidentally release an evil spirit. Need to find the truth to rid themselves of ghost. | The acting and production value are decent enough but the movie is very predictable. Villains couldn't be more obvious and the overall concept is just not that interesting. Sudden karate fight is sudden.
| Return of the Living Dead (1985) | 4/5 | Zombie | 80s | Forman Frank Johnson and new employee Freddy discover a drum full of "Trioxin" that contains a toxic gas capable of bringing the dead back to life. When they accidentally release the gas, it creates an army of intelligent zombies that hunger for human brains. | A funny and violent romp that trounces all over the usual Zombie tropes. The zombies are stronger, more dangerous, and a lot more intelligent than the mindless undead seen in other zombie movies. One part horror, one part punk; this is a great watch for zombie fans.
| Return of the Living Dead Part II (1988) | 2/5 | Zombie | 80s | While cleaning up the mess from the previous movie, a military truck accidentally loses a drum of Trioxin. It ends up contaminating a local cemetery resulting in the dead residences to rise from their graves to feast upon the brains of the living. | Lacks the humor, creativity, and the gore that made the first movie so memorable. Feels like it is just going through the motions of the first without capturing the magic that made it so great. Forgettable characters, subpar story, and overall not a worthy sequel.
| Return to Horror High (1987) | 2/5 | Slasher | 80s | A gruesome massacre took place at a small town high school with the killer never being caught. Several years later, a film crew wants to make a horror movie at the same school only to discover that the killer has returned. | Good kills and has a very SCREAM quality with a meta look on how Slasher Movies get made. Almost got whiplash from the movie bouncing back and forth between the present and past (combined with a sudden dream sequence near the end). The twists at the end are neat but borderlines nonsensicle.
| Rise of the Scarecrows: Hell on Earth (2021) | 0/5 | Supernatural | 2020s | A man returns home to visit his dad. He ends up meeting a woman and they spend time together. Another group of people decide to go camping. Eventually they are attacked by forest scarecrows. | Awful. The audio is horribly mixed. The background music and sound effects of birds and wind are louder than the actual dialogue. Movie is more interested in an awful "romantic" subplot than the actual scarecrows. Many scenes are over-saturated, the editing is inconsistant, and the scarecrows just men in bad Halloween Masks. Hard Pass.
| Ritual (2017) | 3/5 | Monster | 2010s | Friends hiking in the woods discover a cult that worship an immortal beast. | First half of the movie very suspenseful but ruined when cult introduced. Beautifully unique design on the monster itself.
| Robert: Robert and the Toymaker (2017) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | The third movie of the Robert Franchise. A toymaker comes across a Nazi journal that contains an incantation that brings inanimate objects to life. He uses this power to bring Robert and two other dolls to life in order to protect himself from the Nazis. Totally not a ripoff of PuppetMaster. | The movie lacks in scares as it plays more like a Nazi suspense drama than a horror movie. The makeup on the Toymaker is distractingly bad as is the bad CGI blood. Erick Hayden as the villianous Colonel Ludolf is highlight of the movie. The namesake dolls, however, are barely in it.
| Robert: Robert the Doll (2015) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | An elderly nanny gives a little boy a haunted doll named Robert after being fired. Who could have guessed that Robert is evil? | Uses every cliché in the book. Wife with mental illness not being taken seriously, footprints in paint and sugar, mirror jump scares; this movie has them all. Obviously trying to mimic the success of Chucky and Annabelle. THE WAY THEY DEFEAT THE DOLL IS THE MOST LAUGHABLE THING EVER!
| Robert: The Revenge of Robert the Doll (2018) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | The fourth movie of the Robert Franchise. Nazis are looking for a Toymaker who has the power to bring dolls to life. When Nazis discover the Toymaker on a train, he uses his living dolls (Including Robert) to protect himself. Totally not a ripoff of PuppetMaster. | It takes over an hour for the movie to Robert properly and he is only in the movie for less than 7 minutes. The rest of the movie is a somewhat passable "escape-thriller" about a wife fleeing her abusive Nazi husband.
| Room for Rent (2019) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2010s | An elderly woman (the wonderful Lin Shaye) opens an Air BNB after the death of her husband. She becomes obsessed with her handsome male guest to the point where she is willing to do anything to keep him around. | The story is nothing special and the co-starts do a decent enough job with their roles but honestly, this movie is to be watched specifically for Lin Shaye's performance. She switches between sweet and nuturing to selfish and manipulative so seamlessly that it is frightening. Not very scary of even suspensful but her perfomance really sells the character. Please judge for yourself.
| RootWood (2018) | 0/5 | Monster | 2010s | Two podcasters are hired to document a journey to the haunted forest of Rootwood. The woods may not be haunted, however, but instead home to something even more sinister. | Unlikable, bland, and idiotic main characters do nothing to carry this movie. When we finally get to the monster there is only 14 minutes left of the movie and it is so dark that you cannot see a thing. Huge waste of Felissa Rose. Hands down one of the STUPIDEST endings ever. And it keeps going!
| Row 19 (2021) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2020s | 20 years after surviving a plane crash, a young doctor decides to face her fears by going on a flight with her daughter. However her fears are confirmed when her fellow passangers begin to die in mysterious ways. | While there is not much tension throughout the movie, it more than makes up for it with its mysterious plot and stellar ending. Decently acted and well paced. May not be for everyone but personally enjoyed it.
| Rubber (2010) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | Robert is in love. Robert goes on a grand journey to find the women the loves. Robert uses telekentic powers to explode the heads of anyone who gets in his way during this journey for love. And by the way - Robert is a tire. | You MUST see this movie and judge for yourself. This movie is NOT for everyone. This movie is absurd, bizarre, and just plain weird. A horror comedy about "No Reason". The idea is off the wall, the execution insane, and the concept just nuts. Love the gore, the weirdness, and the overall craziness of the film.
| Saturday Morning Mystery (2012) | 1/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Not-Scooby Doo gang are hired to disprove the existance of ghosts inside of a supposedly haunted mansion. | Not funny or scary. Drops the Scooby-Doo premise halfway through. Spends a majority of its time on dull character drama and when things start happening, it is too dark to see anything. It's Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Scooby Doo but not in a fun way.
| Scare Us (2021) | 2/5 | Anthology | 2020s | Five people form a creative writing club to share their short stories. The only problem is that one of them is not who he says he is. | Two out of the four short stories are really well done - good tension and atmosphere. Another is a bit of a let-down that mostly involves someone being chased down with no real plot. The fifth story - involving the writers themselves - falls flat and takes place in near complete darkness making it impossible to see what is going on on screen.
| Scarecrows (1988) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 80s | A group of criminals and their hostages are forced to land their hijacked plane near a haunted corn field. There they are hunted by several supernatural scarecrows who want to harvest their body parts. | Watchable enough. Kills are somewhat decent but the characters are unlikable with no one to root for. Their constant stupidity also makes it rather frustrating to watch. Not the worse scarecrow movie but far from the best.
| Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A group of young teens discover a storybook written by a young woman who was tortured by her parents. When the stories come to life, the friends must find a way to put the girl's soul at rest least they meet the same unfortunate fate as she. | While nothing can compare to the iconic artwork of the books, the movie does a good job capturing how the books made us feel. Maintains its dark themes while still being acceptable for younger audiences.
| Screamers (1995) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | A war between a mining company and it's personal has lead to the creation of "Screamers" - self-replicating machines built to protect the 'Alliance'. However, the Screamers have started to improve upon their own designs. Now the two factions need to band together against a larger threat. Stars Peter Weller. | A solid man-vs-machine story. The Screamers are interesting and provide a lot of tension throughout the movie. Some of the effects have held up well, others have not. The final act does get a little sloppy but not enough to ruin the film.
| Se7en (1995) | 5/5 | Thriller | 90s | Two detectives (Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman) are investigating a deranged serial killer who is murdering people based off the Seven Deadly Sins. | Hands down one of best and most disturbing psychological movies made in the 90s. The dark, grungy tone sets the depressing, nihilistic tone of the movie beautifully. Pitt and Freeman have terrific chemistry and you really feel the bond the two gain as they work together. Probably one of the most memorable endings in horror history.
| See No Evil (2006) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A group of troubled teens are sent to an abandoned hotel for community service. What they don't know is that the hotel is home of a gigantic serial killer by the name of Jacob Goodnight. Starring WWE Wrestler KANE. | A servicable slasher elevated by the sheer size of wrestler Kane. Has some great kills, good tension, and mixes together dark slasher humor with absolute brutality. Kane's presence is a thing of nightmares thanks to his height and strength.
| See No Evil 2 (2014) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Serial killer Jacob Goodnight's corpse is delivered to a local morgue where it is discovered that he is not as dead as people had hoped. His latest victims are several college students who decided to use the morgue as a party site. Stars WWE wrestler KANE as the killer. | Some scenes (especially the ending) are a bit of a strech but overall it is a good, if a bit generic, slasher. KANE's natural size and strength steals the show as he is just physically terrifying and he plays a slasher villain very well. Even creepier when he talks. Overall not bad at all.
| Selfie Man (2018) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A woman tries to save her sister's life after she experiences a supernatural entity that lives in the Dark Web. Upon visiting it's website you are given a curse where upon taking your 13th selfie, you die a grisly death. | This is "The Ring" but with the Dark Web instead of a VHS tape. It isn't anything too horrible - mostly focusing on the generic "Dark Web is evil" trope with the Demonic Entity being used sparingly. Acting is decent enough with a few neat scenes and shots but overall nothing to write home about. Worth at least 1 viewing. Worse monster name ever.
| Share or Die (2021) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2020s | "Share or Die" begins spreading across the internet with 2 simple rules: Share, or confess a secret. The movie follows different groups of people as they deal with the chain letter their own way - some use it for revenge, some are clueless, and some are trying to stop it forever. | Some actors give a decent performance, but others are rough. Some creative kills and gore. An allegory to the callousness the internet creates (choosing the simple 'Share' option to hurt others as opposed to Confessing to end it). Decent enough - some may find it fun, others may not.
| Shivers (1975) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 70s | A murder sucide leads to an investigation inside of a large condo complex. What is uncovered is a dangerous experiment involving parasites that increase people's libido's and can spread through sexual contact. Directed and written by David Cronenberg. | **Sexual Assault Warning** Truly Bizarre in concept and execution. A great allegory of the dangers of STD transmission. One of Cronenberg's earliest uses of Body Horror. Very unsettling towards the end with what can only be described as "Rapist Zombies" attacking everyone. Slow paced and unnerving. Highly recommend to watch and determine for yourself.
| Shrooms (2007) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | Friends go on a 'shrooms' vacation where they are brought into the woods to experiment with magic mushrooms with the help of a local. A bad trip causes one girl to get lost in the woods where she runs into a muderous psychopath that starts hunting her and her firneds down. | A unique and fun slasher that plays with a lot on the idea of 'what is real vs what is a hallucination/paranoia'. Good kills, a lot of red-herrings and misdirection, with a fun twist at the end. Recommend watching twice to see how the movie worked out once the truth is understood.
| Silent but Deadly (2011) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2010s | A quiet country boy (Jason Mewes) goes on a rampage when a Hollywood film crew accidentally kill his pet goat. | While the kills are creative, the effects are reminiscent of an old 90s point n'click game. The humor mostly consists of racial jokes or jokes towards little people which get old after a while. Nothing wrong with the acting or cinematography. Just not that exciting to watch.
| Silent Hill (2006) | 3/5 | Haunting | 2000s | A mother loses her daughter in the cursed town of Silent Hill. While there she encouners the many horrors the town has to offer - from terrifying demons to religious fantatics - all the while looking for her daughter. Based off the Playstation Game of the same name. | One of the better video-game adaptations. Expertly nails the atmosphere, monster design, and sound design that made Silent Hill so good. Has some rough patches with acting here and there but still a very solid film.
| Silent Night Deadly Night 5 (1991) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | A toy maker and his son smuggle deadly toys into people's houses to punish the naughty. Has nothing to do with the previous Silent Night films | Some fun effects with the toys that lead to some fantastic kills. An insane story with a nonsensical twist at the end that just adds to the madness. A fun watch but not without flaws and pacing problems.
| Sinister (2012) | 5/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A True-Crime novelist moves into a home where a family was brutally murdered. He soon discovers several reel-to-reel home movies depicting other murders. This leads him to begin an investigation on these cold-cases that leads him to a demonic entity known as BeGhouled... | This movie hits all the proper beats. It takes its time with the horror, has fantastic atmosphere, a bone-chilling and anxiety inducing soundtrack, and some horrifying kills. Always a treat to watch.
| Skinned Deep (2004) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A family of mutated serial killers kidnap a girl and try to convince her to join their family. Co-Starring Warwick Davis. | Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Mad Max. Great character and set designs. The kills are gory and creative. Drags on far too long with uninteresting characters and a boring storyline. Would have worked better as a short film.
| Slaughter High (1986) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | A high school prank goes horrible wrong and leaves a poor nerd severely disfigured. Decades later, his bullies are invited to a school reunion where they are hunted down one by one. | This movie is visually dark - a lot of low light scenes. Despite that, the kills are well done, the storyline decent. Not too bad and worth a few watch-throughs.
| Sleepaway Camp (1983) | 5/5 | Slasher | 80s | Cousins Angela and Ricky are sent away to summer camp for fun in the sun. However Angela soon finds herself the target of camp bullies while others find themselves the target of a mysterious serial killer. | One of the best camp slasher movies to date. The kills are imaginative, the storyline engaging, and the tension high. The twist at the end is still shocking to this day.
| Sleepaway Camp 2 (1988) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | Angela breaks out of her mental institution to sneak back into summer camp. She wants to become the best camp counsler and will punish any naughty camper who gets in her way. | More tongue-in-cheek than the previous movie. This one leans a little more on meta humor and kills than the whole 'who-dun-it' angle of the first movie. A solid enough sequel in its own right.
| Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland (1989) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | A summer camp wants to mix lower-class and upper class teenagers in a social experiment. Angela Baker kills and takes the identity of one of the teens in order to "cleanse" the camp from the rude and naughty. | Has a more 'meta' tone with references to other horror movies. Suffers from censorship - with a lot of the kills coming across as tame or obviously edited. The weakest of the SleepAway Camp movies but still fun thanks to the good pacing.
| Slender (2016) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | A group of friends want to make a documentary about a woman who believes an "faceless being" kidnapped her kids. | One of the better Slenderman movies thanks to its focus on following a victim instead of looking for a monster. Good build-up, good execution, and a good blend of mockumentary style with found footage. Just needed more scares closer to the ending.
| Slugs (1988) | 4/5 | Creature | 80s | Killer Slugs are on the loose! They slowly make their way towards town as the body count increases. | 80s gore at its best. Campy premise with some fun kills. Has a classic "killer insect" storyline that is executed nicely enough for what it is.
| Slumber Party Massacre (1982) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | High school girls have a slumber party. However, their fun turns sour when a drill-welding serial killer crashes the event. A Roger Corman film. | Corny dialogue, cheesey moments, and a lot of hilariously akward scenes makes this movie fun to watch. Is no slasher giant like Nightmare or Friday but is able to make due to the absurdity that it presents.
| Slumber Party Massacre 2 (1987) | 2/5 | Slasher | 80s | Girls having a slumber party are suddenly attacked by a Greaser with a Drill Guitar. A massive 3 foot drill attached to an electric guitar. Cannot make this up. | This is insanity defined. There is a musical number, some great kills, a nonsensical ending chase scene at a construction site, and the weirdest villain ever conceived. This is not a good movie but it is a fun(?) movie. Gotta see it to believe it.
| Snoop Dog's Hood of Horror (2006) | 3/5 | Anthology | 2000s | Three stories surrounding the Hood as told by a deceased gangbanger (voiced by Snoop Dog). The first is about a Tagger gains the power over death if she X's out other people's graffiti. The second tells of a racist couple who want to murder their housemates in order to gain an inheritance and the third is about a rap artist who breaks a promise to God and must pay the consequences. | An entertaining alternative to Tales from the Hood. Carries the same tone and style of Tales which is not a bad thing. Some of the acting is over-the-top and the morals obvious but is still amusing and a joy to watch for anthology fans overall.
| Sorority Row (2009) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A sorority prank goes horribly wrong resulting in the death of one of its sisters. During the graduation party, an unknown killer hunts down those responsible using a Tire Iron as a weapon. | This is slasher insanity at its best. The main weapon is a heavily modified tire iron. Carrie Fisher hunts the killer with a shotgun and is totally badass doing it. The kills are brutal and bloody, the story decent, and the pacing fast. This is absolutely nothing new and is still generic but the kills and over-the-top nature makes it so much fun!
| Soul Survivors (2001) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2000s | Accident survivor is wracked with guilt and starts hallucinating. Starts losing her grip on what is real and what is in her mind. | Some overall interesting ideas but does not really keep attention. Rather bland overall despite the neat concept.
| Splinter (2008) | 4/5 | Infection | 2000s | Four people are trapped inside of a gas station as a highly infectious "Splintering fungus" invades the territory. The Splinters are able to control individual body parts and begin seeking new hosts to infect. | Beautifully done body horror with real suspense, insane gore and makeup, and a very creepy premise. The acting is solid, the tension high, and the kills intense with their brutality.
| Squirm (1976) | 2/5 | Creature | 70s | Lightning Storm causes flesh eating worms to rise from the ground to attack a small southern town. | Good makeup but dumb and unlikable characters bog the movie down. Only gets decent at last 20 minutes. Has the heaviest sheet of plywood in movie history.
| St. Francisville Experiment (2000) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2000s | Friends investigate a plantation that is supposedly haunted by the servants who died there. | Some good moments showing realistic reactions to scary events. Unfortunately, not enough actually happens throughout the movie. Bland overall.
| Stan Helsing (2009) | 2/5 | Monster | 2009s | Slacker Stan Helsing must team up with his friends to battle paraodied versions of famous horror icons including Jason, Chucky, Pinhead, and Micheal Myers. Starring Kenan Thompson, Leslie Nielsen, and Steve Howey. | Better than expected. Feels more like "Spy Hard" or "Hot Shots" than Scary Movie. Has some legit funny scenes and one liners. Does not rely on constant pop-references as its humor. However, most the movie involves the main characters running from setup to the next making some of it feel a bit weak on execution. Still a decent romp, though and worth a watch.
| Starve (2014) | 1/5 | Torture | 2010s | College students working on a research paper are kidnapped by a serial killer who locks them in an abandoned high school. There they are starved to the brink of madness then forced to fight to the death in order to be fed. | Nothing much to see here after the initial premise is understood. The pacing is lousy, the fight scenes bland, the gore unimpressive, and the acting rough. The concept could have been great if done properly.
| Summer Camp (2015) | 4/5 | Infection | 2010s | Teenagers get infected with "Rage" while setting up a summer camp for kids. | The concept is actually new and unique. The characters are likable enough, the gore top-notce, and the tension high. Really enjoyed the different twist on the "Rage Zombie" concept that really adds a layer of depth later in the movie.
| Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2000s | A deaf young man is recently laid off from his job. In order to pay his sister's medical bills, he and his girlfriend devise a plan to blackmail his former employer. When things go horribly wrong, the three of them find themselves in a web of Vengeance that threatens all of their lives. Directed by Park Chan-Wook. | A slow, tension building story that truly understands what it means to have "sympathy" for the characters involved. Park Chan-Wook takes great care in building these characters up making sure we are emotionally invested in their struggles. An unflinching look at how revenge can corrupt a good person.
| TAG (2015) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Mitsuko is a Japanese high schooler who finds herself the target of an unknown malevolent force that slaughters everyone around her in a horrible violence fashion. | Simply put; this movie is very bizarre. Has Anime-Levels of violence and gore. Overall, a rather strange movie but was able to maintain your attention all the way till the end. Recommend seeing for yourself to judge properly with how weird it is.
| Tales of Halloween (2015) | 3/5 | Anthology | 2010s | 10 short stories all based around Halloween. Stories include demonic children, man-eating pumpkins, serial killers, and teenagers extracting revenge on those who wronged them. | Some of the stories are fine but too many follow the same storyline of someone getting revenge on bullies. The more unique stories (the pumpkin for example) are a lot more entertaining. Decent enough to put on in the background during Halloween.
| Tell Me How I Die (2016) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2010s | College students participate in an experimental drug program. One of the side-effects is the ability to foresee the future; thus allowing one of our characters to see the murders of everyone in the facility. Now she needs to use her visions to prevent everyone's deaths as an unknown killer stalks the hall. | This is basically Final Destination with drugs. There are some good kills, the idea is fun and fresh, and it is acted well enough. The only big problem is the fact that the movie does not really have an ending - it just stops with no real conclusion. A decent ride worth a viewing or two.
| Terrifier (2016) | 2/5 | Splatter | 2010s | A creepy killer mime stalks and murders a bunch of people in terrible, horrible ways. | Paper thin story. You are watching this for the Kills and Gore which this movie has in spade! Some of the most violent deaths I've seen and Art the Clown is portrayed wonderfully - can be a classic horror villain if given a better storyline.
| Terrifier 2 (2016) | 3/5 | Splatter | 2010s | Art the Clown is back and as violent as ever. After being ressurected by a demonic entity, Art continues his annual rampage across Miles County - this time targetting a high-school girl and her younger brother who have been seeing him in their dreams. | David Howard Thornton continues to deliver a fantastic performance as Art the Clown. Lauren La Vera also does an amazing job as protagonist Sienna Shaw. She is bad-ass and really steals the show during the final act. Top-notch, almost cartoony violence with superb practical effects. Sadly movie suffers from its nearly 2 hour, 20 minute runtime. Still worth seeing for Gorehounds.
| Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) | 4/5 | Slasher | 70s | A brother and sister travel with their friends to check on their grandfather's grave after a string of grave robbings occurred. They end up coming across the Sawyer family - a murderous group of cannibals - who capture them with malicious intent. | A classic in every sense of the word. It's low budget combined with director Tobe Hooper's keen eye gives this movie a very gritty, realistic look that adds to its disturbing nature. It is slower paced and quite tame violence-wise compared to other slashers of the time.
| Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1985) | 4/5 | Slasher | 80s | Leatherface and his family kidnap and torture a local radio disc jockey who caught one of their murders on audio tape. While she struggles to escape, a local sheriff (Dennis Hopper) hunts the family down to avenge the murder of his nephew. | Complete tonal shift from the first movie. More of a twisted comedy which is not a bad thing whatsoever. The movie is delightfully cruel and over-the-top. Dennis Hopper is a national treasure and it shows in this movie. Zany, insane, and entertaining as hell. Also one of the first roles by Horror icon Bill Mosely as Chop Top.
| Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth (2000) | 3/5 | Documentary | 2000s | A documentary on the filming and release of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well as its three sequels. Discusses the horrible working conditions, the financial problems surrounding the movie, and the shady business practices that occurred after the movie became a hit. | Great insight on the filming of this horror classic. Focuses primarily on the original movie but also gives time to Texas Chainsaw 2, Leather Face, and Next Generation. Interesting information concerning the movie's mafia connections, financial troubles, and sickening practical effects.
| Texas Chainsaw Masssacre (2003) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A hitchhiker's suicide prompts a group of friends to abandoned their road trip and seek help in a rural community. There they are captured by a corrupt sheriff and his psychotic family - including the chainsaw wielding Leatherface. | Violent and cruel. This is hands down one of the best horror remakes of the 2000s. R. Lee Ermey is probably one of the scariest characters in the movie, second only to Leatherface himself. Adds new characters, a more brutal storyline, and a bunch of violent deaths.
| The Assent (2019) | 3/5 | Possession | 2010s | A man believes that his son has been possessed by demons. Against the wishes of the local social worker, he finds a disgraced priest to perform the exorcism. | Found the movie to be quite engaging to watch despite the overall generic premise. It is the third act that really seals the deal. Even if you see if coming, the ending is well done and offers a different take for the possession genre.
| The Axiom (2018) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A girl disappears in some woods. Weeks later her sister, brother, and their friends travel to the woods to seek her out. They accidentally step through a portal that leads them into a realm full of demons and ghosts. | This movie could have been a fantastic pilot to a tv series. The idea of multiple Axioms, a girl seeking out a lost sibling, inter-dimensional monsters - Good on paper but executed poorly. Monsters are barely used (Ghosts making up a majority of the movie) and the ending ruins what could have been a fun concept.
| The Baby (1973) | 5/5 | Thriller | 70s | A Social Worker discovers that a mother - with the help of her adult daughters - is purposely stunting the growth of her 21 year old son; treating him as if he were a toddler. | A feeling of wrongness permeates the movie from start to finish. How casually people accept "Baby", his punishments, the different forms of abuse the family puts Baby through; it all pushes the sense of dread. The ending propels them movie even further.
| The Beyond (1981) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 80s | A woman inherits an old hotel onlt to discover that it was built on top of one of the gates of Hell. She must try to find a way to close the gate while being stalked by several undead monstrocities. Directed by Lucio Fulci. | Fans of Lucio Fulci's storytelling and use of practical gore will enjoy this film. Bizarre and weird (in a good way) with some pacing issues. A few effects didn't age well but that does not deter Lucio's fantastic use of atmosphere and makeup.
| The Blob (1958) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 50s | A meteorite crashes down near a small town. From the meteorite comes a blob - an alien life form that consumes everything it touches. As it devours its victims, it grows in size threatens to engulf the entire town with everyone inside of it. | A sci-fi horror classic. The effects, while primitive, are still a blast to watch. Has some slow momets and pacing issues but still does a good job building the Blob as a legit threat that must be taken seriously.
| The Blob (1988) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | A meteor crashes in a small town unleashing a gelatinous monster that grows larger with everything it digests. A much more violent remake of the 50s classic. | With more kills, more suspense, and more scares - this is a prime example of what to do with a remake. Some of the best practical effects the 80s has to offer. Cannot recommend enough,
| The Blood Beast Terror (1968) | 1/5 | Monster | 60s | A scientist turns his daughter into a weremoth vampire. She decides she wants a weremoth vampire husband so he tries to create one. Meanwhile a detective (Peter Cushing) investigates what's going on. | Despite the talented cast that truly give it their all, the movie spends most of its time just treading water. Starts off as a murder mystery only to do nothing until the last 15 minutes.
| The Box (2009) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2000s | A mysterious man offers a married couple a box with a button. He explains that if they push it, they will be rewarded with a million dollars. However someone they don't know will die. They have 24 hours to decide. | After the initial set-up, the movie nose dives into alien conspiracies, government coverups, and cult behavior. Feels like an overly complicated X-Files episode. Should have remained a short story instead of a nearly 2 hour movie.
| The Boy (2015) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2010s | A motel owner and his son Ted are going through financial troubles. But that is not the worse of their problem as Ted tends to show psychotic tendencies such as killing animals and physically harrassing guests. Ted becomes very interested in one guest in particular when the guest starts exhibiting signs of strange behavior... | A slow but satisfying burn made even more engaging thanks to the wonderful child actor who plays Ted. His awkwardness and psychotic tendencies provides us with a more realistic depiction of would-be serial killers. May not be for everyone due to its pacing, but still a good watch.
| The Burrowers (2008) | 3/5 | Monster | 2000s | Underground beasts known as "Burrowers" begin hunting humans after their food supply runs out. Based in the Wild West. | A creature movie that really makes me want more monsters based during the Wild West. Unique in story and setting and overall pretty well made. Has some pacing issues in the middle but still a good watch.
| The Bye Bye Man (2017) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | The root of all evil comes from a mysterious creature known as the Bye Bye Man - and once you learn of it, you can never be rid of it. | Maybe one or two creative shots in otherwise a bland, incoherent, and overall forgettable film. Weird character decisions, inconsistant story beats, and just not that interesting to watch.
| The Cleanse (2016) | 3/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | Five people join a mountain retreat in order to heal themselves. They are provided with a cleansing drink that expells more than just their toxins. Stars Johnny Galecki, Oliver Platt, and Angelica Huston. | Some wonderful practical effects. Surprisngly short at just over 70 minutes. It comes in, does what it needs to do, and leaves. Perhaps could have used a bit more time to develop the characters but still captivating enough to keep your attention.
| The Collector (2009) | 3/5 | Torture | 2000s | A thief breaks into a wealth family's home only to discover that a psychotic serial killer has already boobytrapped the house with deadly traps. Will he risk his life saving the family or will he take the money and run? | Violent, suspensful, with a ton of visceral traps. Love seeing how quiet and methodical the Collector is. Also a big can of his other-worldly design. The ending is a bit by the numbers but solid movie overall.
| The Conjuring (2013) | 5/5 | Haunting | 2010s | A family's new home is haunted by the spirit of a violent woman. They call upon the help of Ed and Lorraine Warren. Loosely based off the real life Ed and Lorraine Warren investigations. Directed by James Wan. | Possibly James' best work. The movie balances jump-scares with creepy quiet moments. Takes its time building atmosphere, tension, and legit horror. The highlight of the movie, however, comes from the fantastic performances of Patick Wilson & Vera Farmiga who have phenominal on screen chemistry. Highly recommended.
| The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) | 2/5 | Possession | 2020s | Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) return to investigate a murder where the accused believes he was possessed by a demon. | Like many sequels of James Wan movies not directed by James Wan, the Conjuring 3 follows the same beats as the previous films but without the same heart or passion. Slow plot, uninteresting characters, and very predictable scares. Patrick and Vera, as always, are superb as Ed and Lorraine and are the best part of the movie.
| The Covenant (2006) | 3/5 | WitchCraft | 2000s | The Sons of Ipswich are four students who descend from a long line of colonial witches. They have the ability to use powerful magic at the expense of their own life force. When one of them decides to use his powers for evil, the other three must band together to stop him before its too late. | Hot Topic the movie. An overly handsome cast with perfect bodies giving a decent enough performance. The magical abilities and fight scenes make the movie and provides just enough entertainment to keep you engages. A fun, albeit pointless, popcorn flick.
| The Crazies (1973) | 2/5 | Infection | 70s | A dangerous bioweapon has entered the water supply of a small town resulting in the complete quarantine by the US government. Unfortunately, those in charge are vastly unprepared for the situation and a small group of civilians try to escape. | Odd feelings about this one. The beginning is very fast paced with rapid cuts, loud dialogue, and generally all over the place. Still there is something oddly compelling about this movie that keeps you glued to the screen. Mostly a social commentary about how inept government bureaucracy is. Very frustrating character decisions but that is the point.
| The Curve (1998) | 3/5 | Thriller | 90s | Two college friends discover a school loophole where if a roomate commits suicide, they get an A for the semister. Desperate to get into Harvard, the friends plot the murder of their third room mate in order to get their grades back up to snuff. Stars Matthew Lillard. | Overall the movie is pretty interesting but it is Matthew Lillard's performance that sells the film. He is so delightfully evil and devious that you cannot help but love seeing him on screen. The movie keeps you entertained enough but it is Lillard who steals the show.
| The Dawn (2006) | 0/5 | Slasher | 2000s | Professor takes high school students to a retreat in the woods to study sacrificial rituals. | Nothing redeemable whatsoever. Bad acting, bad sound, bad soundtrack - the movie is just awful but not in an entertaining way. It is boring, hard to see, and has nothing fun or unique to keep the viewer invested.
| The Dead Pit (1989) | 2/5 | Zombie | 80s | A mad doctor returns from the dead to transform mental patients into an army of zombies. | Has that distinct "80s" low-budget look and feel. When the kills start happening we are treated to a wonderful display of practical effects, and makeup. Unfortunately, the movie's story is lacking and it drags on a bit too long. Please see for yourself as the last act makes or breaks the movie, depending on your taste.
| The Descent (2005) | 5/5 | Monster | 2000s | A group of women explore an underground cavern only to be hunted by blind monsters that can navigate the darkness. | Fantastic all around. Good ensemble of characters who mostly make good decisions throughout the movie. A lot of the tension comes from the claustrophobia of being in small tunnels. Great gore and scares all around.
| The Devil's Advocate (1997) | 4/5 | Biblical | 90s | An esteemed lawyer (Keanu Reeves) gets the attention of a powerful law firm run by the devil himself (Al Pacino). | One of Pacino's best performances. The dramatic turmoil is intercut with great suspense and character acting. Pacino's monologue at the film's conclusion is absolutely fantastic and cements this movie's classic status.
| The Devil's Children (2021) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2020s | Two college students interview the sole survivor of a mysterious massacre at another college student's house. The survivor shows them a tape of what really happened that night and the movie follows the events that led to the killings. | The acting is just rough. The makeup amatuerish, the costumes straight out of the dollar store, and some scenes laughably bad.. However, there is something mildly charming about this film. Feels like a college project and credit is given for this obvious first attempt. The sound design is on point, the found-footage portion decent enough, and the actual attempt admirable.
| The Devil's Familiar (2020) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2020s | A man has been killed and another is missing. With a woman accused of these attacks, two film students decided to take it upon themselves to make a documentery about the incident. Will they prove the woman's guilt or discover something more sinister? | Get past the first five minutes to the start of the Found Footage segment as that is where the quality increased dramatically. Main Character Elliot is very likable and is the best part of the movie. Clearly a micro-budget film but one that was surprisingly very well made. The 3rd act bounces back and forth between good and very amatuer - with 99 cent store effects and costumes. Worth one watch as it is only 58 minutes.
| The Door (2014) | 1/5 | Thriller | 2010s | A young man loses his job and becomes desperate for money. After saving a mysterious rich man's life, he is given a security job where his only task is monitor a single door to make sure it never opens. Problems arise, however, when his drunk friends come to visit. | If this had remained focused on watching the door, the movie may have been a whole lot better - like something out of SCP. The dialogue is insufferable, the acting wooden and lacking any sense of emotion, the kills dull, and movie way too dark. The whole movie falls apart the moment the friends arrive as the rest of the movie just watches them constantly split up, regroup, rinse, repeat. Just nothing to be gained after the first 20 minutes.
| The Evil (1978) | 4/5 | Haunting | 70s | Doctor turns an old mansion into a rehab center. The Ghosts do not like that one bit. | High points all around. Acting, atmosphere, music, storyline - all top notch. Fun old-school special effects, high body count, and good spin on religious/haunting horror.
| The Fear (1995) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 90s | College students go to a cabin in the woods to face their biggest fears. While there they are threatened by a life-sized wooden mannequin named Morty. | For a movie about a demonic mannequin, there is a surprisingly amount of implied incest and sexual assault. Great makeup on Morty. Nothing inherently awful but still feels a bit off. Worth at least 1 watch for how truly bizarre this movie is.
| The Fergusons (2011) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2010s | The perfect Suburban Family turn out to be murderous cannibals. | Everyone is dialed up to 11 making them practically cartoon characters. The editing is all over the place with strange wipes and sudden jump cuts. Also randomly cuts to to nonsensical musical numbers. Watch The Parents instead.
| The Fields (2011) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2010s | It's the 70s and a young boy is forced to live with his grandparents after a domestic dispute involving his mom and dad. They warn him to stay out of the corn fields because of vague sinister reasons that has nothing to do with the story. | Really do not know what this movie was supposed to be about. Domestic abuse? A creepy small town with secrets? A supernatural killer hiding in the corn fields? A cult living in an abandoned amusement park? None of the above? Just a slow burn with no pay-off or explaination as to why anything happens. Great acting by the primary cast though.
| The Fog (1980) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 80s | On a small town's 100th anniversary, a mysterious fog appears. It brings with it the spirits of several angry undead sailors who wish to extract their revenge on the citizens. Directed and written by John Carpenter. | Good atmosphere and tension. The Fog itself felt like an actual character - the way it rolls in and manuevers around the town while seeking out its victims. Nothing too special in the gore department but a good watch nevertheless.
| The Frighteners (1996) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 90s | A psychic (Micheal J. Fox) teams up with ghosts in order to fake hauntings so that he could charge for exorcisms. But when he notices Death, he must find a way to stop the evil entity before it slaughters those close to him. | One of the few horror comedies that combine legit tension and scares with humor and silliness. A great "who-done-it" with some wonderful special effects for its time, some wonderful set pieces, and a surprisingly dark final act.
| The Haunting of Grady Farm (2019) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | An independent crew of ghost hunters decide to spend the weekend at the "haunted" Grady Farm. Legend has it that the farm is inhabited by ancient creatures that have cursed the land. | Despite a character being completely deplorable, the movie was still a good watch. Loved the final act when the horror kicked into gear. Also enjoyed seeing the friends' dynamic break apart. Perfect length at almost exactly 1 hour.
| The Hills Have Eyes (1977) | 4/5 | Slasher | 70s | Mutated by atomic bomb testing, a family of cannibals torment a family who crash near their desert hideout. Directed by Wes Craven. | Satisfyingly mean-spirited and viscreal for when it was released. Really appreciate that the villains are not brain-dead hicks but capable killers who plan and stalk their victims. The aburpt cut-to-credits hurts the conclusion of the movie as comes too sudden.
| The Hills have Eyes (2006) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A family on vacation get into a wreck that leaves them vurnerable to a clan of cannibalistic mutated hillbillies. | **Graphic Sexual Assault Warning** Brutal. Visceral. Relentless. Does not hold back showing the absolute depravity of the hillbillies. Always a plus when the protaginists actually fight back. On of the better remakes out there.
| The Hills Have Eyes: Part 2 (1984) | 2/5 | Slasher | 80s | A bus load of teenagers get stranded in the middle of the desert while on the way to a dirt-bike race. They end up in an abandoned mining town where they are found by the remaining cannibals from the first movie. | A lack-luster sequel to the 70s classic. The leader, Reaper, is a grunting, groaning caveman type and while the return of Pluto is nice, he is nowhere near as intimidating as he was in the first film. The cast are all one-note and forgettable except for the blind Cass and Ruby from the first film. Watchable but rather bland.
| The Hoarder (2015) | 1/5 | Slasher | 2010s | A woman visiting a storage locker becomes stalked by a "human hoarder" and the deformed, malnorished slaves under his control. | Dreadful. Unlikable characters, bland acting, and hands down one of the worse ending decisions by a main character ever. The makeup of the hoarded victim is decent as is one or two kills but otherwise - not a fun ride.
| The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959) | 3/5 | Thriller | 50s | Sherlock Holmes and his associate Doctor Watson are summoned to investigate the death of the sadistic Hugo Baskerville. He is told that the Baskerville name is cursed to be haunted by a demonic Hound. Holmes and Watson must seek out the truth behind this so-called Hound. Starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. | A charming gothic murder mystery that does Sherlock Holmes justice. Peter Cushing is a delight to watch as Holmes with Andre Morell being one of the better Watsons. Is a slow burn but that is to be expected. Worth the watch.
| The House In Between (2020) | 2/5 | Documentary | 2020s | A real-life documentary of a woman's home that is supposedly one of the most haunted houses in America. The investigators have been monitoring the house for over 9 years and this movie documents their findings. | Would be much better without the horror-movie soundtrack & overly dramatic edits. The whole documentary has a stinger/suspense soundtrack and it really kills the authenticity of what we see. Interesting enough but nothing too special overall.
| The House of the Devil (2009) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2000s | Samantha is a simple college student who accepts a high-paying baby sitting job. The family, however, has more sinister plans in store for her. | Good building of a suspensful atmosphere and a really shocking death scene. However, the ending doesn't seem to hold that much of a pay off to the build of suspense. Has a very classic 70s/80s slow burn. Recommend watching to judge for yourself as tastes will vary.
| The House that Jack Built (2018) | 4/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Serial Killer Jack recounts the various murders he has comitted over the past twelve years. He discusses how each and every murder helped shape him into an even better killer - eventually comparing his kills to beautiful art. Directed by Lars Von Trier. | Matt Dillion's protrayal of Jack is absolutely chilling. His descent into madness, growing with each and every kill, is like a train wreck. You know you should look away but find that you cannot. Mean-spirited, unflinchingly cruel, and violent when it needs to be; The House that Jack Built is perfect for those fascinated with serial killers. The last 15 minutes shift to a more artistic tone - which could turn some people off. **Warning Uses Stock Historical Footage of war-time deaths**
| The Human Race (2013) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | Over seventy people are teleported to a remote location where they must race against one another. If they step off the trail, get lapped twice, or touch the grass, they die. Some racers band together to help each other while others attempt to kill the competition. | **Warning - Some deaths (some including children) may be uncomfortable to watch** A low-budget but effective battle royale-style movie. The movie is cruel and unflinching in its execution. That said, it is well acted, fast paced, and a good production value. The ending may not be for everyone.
| The Ice Demon (2021) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2020s | A missing man's sudden reappearence causes a family to turn on each other due to an evil entity that has latched onto the man's comatose body. | Don't expect this movie to have anything to do with an actual ice demon. It's a pretty generic 'evil entity tortures family through hallucinations' storyline. Some rough spots here and there but decent enough.
| The Initiation (1984) | 3/5 | Slasher | 80s | Sorority intitiate Kelly fairchild suffers from recurring nightmares from her childhood. Meanwhile a mysterious killer hunts down and murders several of her sorority sisters during Prank Night. | Very solid slasher movie that breaks a lot of the usual trends associated with the genre. Mixes things up with a mysterious backstory for the main character and adds a bit of a psychological flair to the movie. Good kills, a bit slower paced, but still pretty well done.
| The Last Man On Earth (1964) | 3/5 | Vampire | 60s | It is the end of the world and the last remnants of humanity have become Vampires. Now Vincent Price must hunt them down while searching for a cure. Based off the 1954 novel "I Am Legend" | Not your traditional Vampires as these are more zombie like - weak and slow yet with the ability to talk. Price's loneliness and desperation feels so real it's heart wrenching - especially with when he meets the dog. A slower paced film that focuses on isolation and helplessness - but still engaging nevertheless.
| The Last Witch Hunter (2015) | 3/5 | Fantasy | 2010s | A knight is cursed with Eternal Life and spends his life hunting down Witches who break the sacred law. Stars Vin Diesel | A fun action movie that does nothing new but still entertaining to watch. Love the way the magic spells are used. Good story, good action. A good choice to kill some time.
| The Lift (1983) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | After a power surge, an elevator goes out of control and begins killing people. Now a maintenance man must figure out the cause of the malfunction. | An interesting concept concerning "Techno-Fear" where computers can learn to evolve and think. Good mystery-style thriller with conspiracies. Very intense ending "Battle" with the elevator.
| The Lost Boys (1987) | 5/5 | Vampire | 80s | A mother and her two sons move to Santa Clara, California. Micheal, the eldest son, soon becomes friends with a local biker gang that turn out to be vampires. As the gang converts Micheal, it is up to the younger brother and his bizarre friends to save the day. Starring Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, and Keifer Sutherland. | Best Vampire Movie Ever. Has everything you want - an punk/grunge look mixed with some legit humor and scares, good kills, and a stellar sound track. Plus it has Sexy Saxophone Man.
| The Mad Hatter (2021) | 1/5 | Haunting | 2020s | Four students are invited to participate in a psychological study by their professor. They must spend several days inside a "haunted" house while their teacher monitors how it effects them. | Movie starts off decently - some great shots, good atmosphere, and a good albeit familiar idea (very similar setup to The Haunting). But quickly goes down hill thanks to a nonsensical story, boring characters, and horrible computer effects. It also has very little to do with a "mad hatter".
| The Midnight Meat Train (2008) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | Photographer gets more than he bargained for when he tries to uncover a serial killer who murders people in a subway train. | A deliciously absurd amount of violence. Slim story that services the gore. A lot of CGI gore to begin with but then practical all the way to the end.
| The Monster Project (2017) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Guy decides to seek out "actual" monsters to interview them. But when the monsters turn out to be real, he and his friends must fight for survival. | Good idea but roughly executed. The movie is DARK - almost pitch black at some points. Really need to watch in a very dark room to see anything.
| The Number 23 (2007) | 2/5 | Thriller | 2000s | Jim Carry plays a man who realizes that his life (as well as important historical events) revolves around the number 23. This leads him down a path of self discovery. What he uncovers, however, may be a thing of nightmares. | The idea is interesting - especially if you read up on the whole 23 enigma. The movie just needed a stronger script. Carry is very inconsistant - sometimes playing it very serious, other times coming across as goofy without meaning too. Tone is all over the place. Worth one viewing.
| The Omen (1976) | 5/5 | Biblical | 70s | A politician discovers that his adopted son may be the antichrist. | One of the greatest biblical horror movies ever made. The soundtrack, the slow burn, the acting, and the atmosphere succeed in providing a constant sense of dread throughout the movie. One of the best decapitations in horror history.
| The Omen (2006) | 3/5 | Biblical | 2000s | An evil cult switch a diplomat and his wife's baby at birth with the antichrist. As terrible things begin to happen around baby Damien, the diplomat teams up with a local priest to discover the truth about his son before it's too late. A remake of the 1980s classic. | One of the better remakes to come out of the 2000s. While it does not exactly capture the creeping sense of dread that the original does, this version of the Omen still carries with it a good atmosphere , some effective jump scares, and adds a few new twists to some of the classic deaths from the original.
| The Pantry Ghost Documentery (2013) | 2/5 | Documentary | 2010s | A short Documentery detailing the mid-2000s viral video series that supposedly showcased actual proof of a ghost. Documentary shows never-before-seen footage and interviews with the home owners. | Some of the production value cheapens the authenticity of the documentary. They try to make things more suspenseful with its music and jerky camera footage which hinders the short film. The footage itself is very eerie yet cannot help feeling how cliché parts feel - again hurting the authenticity. There is no true conclusion either. Still - at 40 minutes, it is a good video to watch if you are interested in alleged true hauntings.
| The Parents (1989) | 4/5 | Thriller | 80s | The perfect Suburban Mother and Father turn out to be murderous cannibals who are trying to indoctrinate their son. | Legit surprised at Randy Quaid's acting performance here. Was a truly terrifying character. Great suspense and story all around.
| The People Under the Stairs (1991) | 4/5 | Thriller | 90s | A young boy and two robbers break into their landlords' house in order to steal their collection of rare coins. What they discover instead is a house of torture, depravity, and murder. Directed and written by Wes Craven. | Such a weird movie that you cannot help but be mesmerized by it. The landlords are played brillently by Everett Mcgill & Weny Robie are the very definiton of unhinged - bouncing back between cartoonish villainary and homicidal monstrocities. Despite the dark humor, there are moments of legit horror and terror throughout. Fun, weird, and definitely one of a kind. Highly recommend.
| The Pond (2021) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2020s | A disgraced professor spends time on an island in the middle of a massive man-made lake in order to further his research. His obsession leads to hallucinations and paranoia. Soon he begins to lose his grip on reality and must now try to escape the evils around him,. | Feels a lot like a more artistic version of Mouth of Madness. Cinematically, this is an absolutely beautiful movie. The plot is slow and the acting a bit wooden but there is still something here to be seen and enjoyed. Highly recommended for those who have previous knowledge of Biblical Lore as it helps understand the ending.
| The Predator (2018) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | A group of ex-soldiers have to tango with an evolved version of the Predator who is seeking new prey in the form of an autistic child. | Sloppily edited, some really bad decisions, and even worse attempts at humor; the only saving grace this movie has comes from the soldiers who have some fantastic chemstry. The story is awkward and the ending underwhelming. Probably the weakest of the Predator franchise.
| The Prey (1983) | 1/5 | Slasher | 80s | Young Adults go camping in the woods where a deformed killer stalks them. Nothing else happens. | If Friday the 13th and Hills Had Eyes had a baby, this would be it. The movie has very little dialogue, practically no story, no world building, no character personalities, and wastes a majority of its run time on either watching people hike or stock footage of animals in the woods. Most of the kills happen at the final 10 minutes of the film.
| The Prophecy (1995) | 4/5 | Biblical | 90s | Gabriel (Christopher Walken) is seeking the "darkest of dark" souls in order to overthrow the gates of heaven and end a thousand year war. Now an Angel and a former priest-turned-detective must seek out the owner of this soul and prevent the end of days. | One of the better "Seeking a person to overthrow God" storylines. Walken is a delight on screen and his brutality as a villain is a joy to witness. Decently paced. Very well done overall.
| The Raven (1963) | 3/5 | Fantasy | 60s | Sorcerer Erasmus Craven is devestated over the recent loss of his wife Lenore. One day he is met by a talking raven who claims to have seen Lenore's ghost at the castle of a rival sorcerer. Now the two must venture to the rival's home to uncover the truth behind Lenore's death. Starring Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, and Jack Nicholson. | An absolute delight to watch. Vicent and Peter work wonderfully off one another, with Vincent's sauve arrogance and Peter's off-the-cuff one liners. They are a beautiful contrast to Karloff's serious demeanor. Funny, witty, and entertaining as hell. The magic duel at the end is easily the highlight of the entire movie.
| The Rift (Endless Descent) (1990) | 3/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | A high-tech submarine goes missing while exploring a deep rift in the ocean. The rescue team sent to find it encounter a series of horrifying undersea beasts. They will need to figure out the beasts' origins as well as escape with their lives. Co-Starring R. Lee Ermy and Ray Wise | Low budget - using a lot of minatures for several of the underwater scenes - but that is just part of its charm. Has some rough-to-decent acting at the start. Moves at a steady pace with little slowdown and has a surprisingly ultra violent third act. A decent addition to the underwater horror collection.
| The Sacrament (2013) | 5/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | A reporter's sister joins a cult that is run by a seemingly kind-hearted man known as "Father". However, when the reporter and his friends try to leave, the cult's loving message turns violent. | Intense & Suspensful. Nothing over-the-top to ruin the realism of the cult and its members. Unsettling from start to finish and made even more so that these kind of cults actually exist.
| The Sand (2015) | 2/5 | Creature | 2010s | Several friends wake up on a beach after a night of partying. They discover that something is under the sand and it will devour anyone who touches the beach. | This should have been a short film - at the max, 45 minutes long. If it had been that, this would have been a lot more fun. Drags on too long, nonsensical drama brought up to pad the run time, and a cast of mostly unlikable characters. The deaths - despite being mostly CGI - are actually pretty fun to watch.
| The Sandman (2017) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A little girl has the power to summon an entity called The Sandman. It is her protector and kills anyone who wishes to cause her, or her family, harm. | Movie does not know what it wants to be. A supernatural slasher? A government conspiracy/X-man-esque story? A thriller? The problem is - there is a good idea buried in all this! The sandman has a great design. The psychic girl turning her fears into a monster is creative and the few kills we see are bloody and fun. If given a better script and story - this could have been great. Also suffers from being too dark and wasting Tobin Bell to only 10 minutes of screen time.
| The Stairs (2021) | 3/5 | Monster | 2020s | A hike in the woods leads a group of friends to a mysterious set of stairs from which a tooth-faces monster comes to hunt them down. | The movie is unapologetically weird. It does not really bother explaining anything but for a movie like this, it works. Likeable cast (including the asshole) with Nick being the showstealer with his realistic reactions to the weird events going on. The creature is a bit low budget but still works well. Well paced, bizarre, and fun for what it is.
| The Thaw (2009) | 2/5 | Creature | 2000s | An environmentalist studying the effects of global warming discovers an ancient species of parasite. The parasites get loose and start infecting all those around them - eating them from the inside out. | Rough overall. The acting is somewhat passable and the concept is interesting on paper but the execution is poor. Does not help that the entire cast is forgettable and the tension nonexistent.
| The Tingler (1959) | 3/5 | Creature | 50s | A morally ambiguous doctor (Vincent Price) discovers a parasite that feeds off people's fears. He attempts to record and even capture it despite the risks involved. | The story is a bit all over the place (murder mystery, betraying spouse, and the Tingler story itself) but still remains entertaining to watch thanks to Vincent and his co-stars performance. Is also the first ever depiction of a LSD acid trip in a movie.
| The Tunnel (2011) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | A news crew investigates a series of underground tunnels in Sydney Australia to determine the cause of a failed government project. | Movie fails at really capturing the essence of a "Found Footage" by strewning character interviews throughout the movie. It doesn't really take off until 40 minutes in when they finally explore the tunnel. It is here where the movie really picks up. Worth watching at least once for some great suspense in the 2nd act.
| The Uncanny (1977) | 3/5 | Anthology | 70s | A superstitious author has a deep seeded fear of cats and believes them to be the devil. He discusses this fear with his publisher by sharing three stories about the evils of cats - one about cats seeking revenge for the death of their owner, one about a cat teaching black magic, and one about a cat who goes SAW on an actress. Stars Peter Cushing. | It is fascinating watching the incredible Peter Cushing acting timid and paranoid as opposed to his usual roles. Drags a bit after the 2nd story but still very fun to watch. Love seeing the many ways they show cats killing people.
| The Unwelcome (2010) | 2/5 | Haunting | 2010s | A pair of paranormal investigators document a series of strange incidents revolving around a young woman. A "No-Budget" Movie | Most problems are from amatuer film making - dialogue too quiet, background noise filtering in, stiff acting, etc. Constantly switches from color to black & white which is a bit distracting. As far as "No-Budgets" go; this one is not bad. If you are interested in amatuer movies - this is worth checking out at least once.
| The Void (2017) | 2/5 | Sci-Fi | 2010s | An injured man is taken to a small county hospital. While there, a mysterious cult arrives to use the hospital as a gateway into another otherworldly dimension. | The movie itself is pretty slow. It drags in several places which is a shame because it boasts some legit eye-dropping practical effects and body horror. The final act is definitively the best portion of the movie even if the story is lacking overall.
| The Whispering Man (2019) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | After the disappearance of his father, an online film maker takes home a mysterious painting titled "The Whispering Man". He believes this painting is somehow connected to his father's disappearance and his grandparents' death. | The haunting begins pretty early in the film which is a nice change from other found footage movies that wait until the last 30 minutes. Acting is a bit uneven and we do not get any real creepy moments outside of some enviroments. Passable.
| The Widow (2020) | 1/5 | Supernatural | 2020s | Rescue workers looking for a missing boy come across a legendary witch. | No real tension or scares. Characters smarter than most. Odd edits make it easy to lose track of characters & locations. Very dark and hard to see.
| The WITCH (2015) | 4/5 | WitchCraft | 2010s | A period film set in the 1630s about a Puritan family who discover an evil presence in woods surrounding their home. The directoral debut of Robert Eggers. | A very slow burn. Primarily focuses on character conflict than the paranormal. Has great atmosphere and is probably one of the best period movies for the horror genre. Don't expect jump scares or obvious scares as WITCH deals more with subtly and atmosphere to unnerve its audience.
| The Wolfman (2010) | 2/5 | Werewolf | 2010s | While investigating the death of his brother, Lawrence Talbot is bitten by a werewolf. He must now hunt down and kill the werewolf responsible while also evading the local police. | While it has some good moments (the transformation inside the asylum being one of the movie's best scenes) and makeup, the overall movie just falls flat.
| They Live (1988) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 80s | A man down on his luck (Rowdy Roddy Piper) discovers a pair of sunglasses that reveal the world for what it really is. He teams up with a friend (Keith David) to take down those responsible for brainwashing the masses. Directed by John Carpenter. | A beautiful blend of 80's cheese, action, and social commentary. Roddy proves to be a fun main character with Keith David playing the straight man. The fight between the two is a thing of legend and the movie is surprisingly relevant to this day. Has a few slow moments but overall a classic.
| They Look Like People (2015) | 3/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Wyatt believes that there are shape-shifting monsters living agmonst us. After moving in with an old friend, Wyatt begins prepping for the eventual battle between mankind and the monsters. | A good thriller that balances levity with dread. While a bit of a slower burn, this has a strong conclusion and does very well for a low budget indie film. At just a bit over an hour in length, a good recommendation to anyone wanting a short but sweet psychological thriller.
| Thing from Another World (1958) | 2/5 | Sci-fi | 50s | Scientists at the North Pole discover an alien life form buried beneath the ice. But when the alien thaws out, the scientists must figure out a way to stop it least it kills them and feasts off their blood. | A decent character drama thanks to the wonderful chemistry everyone has on set. Unfortunately, the fails in the suspense or horror department. Still a good watch; just not a good horror movie.
| Ticks (1993) | 4/5 | Creature | 90s | Clint Howard accidentally creates killer ticks when he injects his marijuana plants with steroids. Now some inner city kids must fight for their life least they be devoured by killer ticks! | Like Slugs, another schlocky giant insect movie with great gore and kills. Knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything more than that. Fun overall for it's campiness.
| To Your Last Death (2019) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A rich and powerful father decides to kill off his 2 sons and 2 daughters. This plan is inturrupted by a supernatural being called "The Game Master" who allows one of the daughters to rewind time to change the outcome. Stars William Shatner, Ray Wise, Dani Lennon, and Bill Moseley. | Animated much like a "Motion-comic book" with a style similar to Twisted Metal 2's cutscenes. Starts off strong but overstays its welcome during the final act. Despite that, it remains a pretty solid watch.
| Tomi Unlimited (2011) | 3/5 | Supernatural | 2010s | A terrible accident occurs when one of two sisters - Tomie - is killed. A year later, Tomie returns home but there is something terribly wrong about her. It does not take long for horrible acts of violence and supernatural occurences to occur whereever she is present. Based off the mangas of Junji Ito. | Two thirds of the movie is full of wonderful suspense, body horror, and atmosphere. However the finale goes full manga which is not bad but a huge tonal shift. The actress playing Tomie nails the character beautifully. One of the better manga-to-live action adaptations despite the weirdness at the end.
| Toolbox Murders (1978) | 2/5 | Thriller | 70s | After murdering four women, a masked man kidnaps a teenage girl to replace the daughter he lost in an accident. | Mixed feelings. Acting is fine and the suspense is fine but it feels like two movies tied together. The actual toolbox murders is only the first 20 minutes. The rest is a thriller to find a kidnapped girl. Not a fan of how weak the women are protrayed but still well done. Please judge for yourself.
| Toxic Avenger (1984) | 4/5 | Splatter | 80s | Geeky janitor Melvin is dumped into a barrel of toxic-waste. This transforms him into a hulking, powerful beast. He uses his new strength to clean up the streets of his home town of Tromaville in the most violent ways possible. Directed by Lloyd Kaufman. | More of a SuperHero movie than a horror film though it still contains an obscene amount of violence and gore. Fast paced with lots of humor, silly situations, and cartoony, over-the-top characters. Fun for the whole family.
| Train to Busan (2016) | 5/5 | Zombie | 2010s | A man and his daughter get caught in the middle of a zombie outbreak while on a train to visit the daughter's mother. Now those on the train must band together to survive as the outbreak spreads country-wide. | Emotional, intense, suspenseful, violent; Train to Busan has everything. The characters range from selfish to loveable and the cast really sells their individual roles. These new zombies are fast, brutal, and just uncomfortable to watch as their broken limbs twist around unnaturally. One of the best modern zombie movies to date.
| Transylvania 6-5000 (1985) | 2/5 | Monster | 80s | Two reporters are sent to Transylvania to discover evidence of a real-life Frankenstein. While the town thinks them a joke, it does not take long for them to realize there is some truth to the stories. Stars Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley Jr. | While it has an all-star cast of some of the best comedians of the 80s, the humor in this comedy falls a bit flat. There are some worth-while chuckles strewn about but nothing that will stick with you after the movie ends. Does have a fantastic twist on the classic monsters. Worth seeing once to judge for yourself.
| Treehouse (2014) | 0/5 | Thriller | 2010s | Two brothers break curfew to find a missing brother and sister in the local woods. They end up at an abandoned treehouse where another little girl is hiding. They must work together to survive the night from the "unseen evil" that lurks nearby. | Started off with what felt like a supernatural take but then just ended up with random antagonists who don't even show up until the last 20 minutes of the movie. No suspense whatsoever, lousy acting, and boring to watch. Can barely even remember what happened in this movie.
| Tremors (1990) | 5/5 | Monster | 90s | The small desert town of Perfection is terrorized by several gigantic subterranean worms. The town - including two doomsday preppers and two down-on-their-luck handymen - must band together if they wish to survive this deadly onslaught. Starring Kevin Bacon, Reba, Micheal Gross, and Fred Ward. | Fantastic from start to finish. This movie has everything: creative and likable characters, witty dialogue, good humor, fast paced story telling and action, and some legit tense moments. Plus it gave us the best character of the Tremors Franchise: Burt Gummel.
| Tremors 2: Aftershocks (1996) | 5/5 | Monster | 90s | Burt and Earl are called down to Mexico to hunt down a bunch of Graboids. Things go terribly wrong when the Graboids evolve into bipedal beast dubbed "Shriekers". | Probably one of the few sequels that lives up to the original while improving upon it. The Shriekers are a wonderful addition to the series and the blend of comedy with legit tension is terrific. Micheal Gross cements his place in horror comedy history as he continues perfecting Burt Gummer.
| Tremors 3: Back to Perfection (2001) | 3/5 | Monster | 2000s | Burt Gummer returns to Perfection only to discover that a new batch of Graboids have been spotted. Problems grow when they discover that the Shriekers can evolve into a 3rd form - one that can fly. | A love letter to fans of Tremors 1 - as almost all the original cast for the townspeople return to reprise their roles. The Ass-Blasters are an interesting addition and do help cement the lore of the Graboids. Sadly the special effects suffer due to the low budget making the AB's look really fake.
| Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004) | 3/5 | Monster | 2000s | A prequel based in the 1800s that follows Burt Gummer's great-great grandfather's experience with Graboids. Graboids versus Cowboys. | A prequel that focuses more on the idea of role-reversing Burt as a weakling and learning to love guns. Some fun moments and good story elements throughout but can feel a bit weak. The ending scene is pretty entertaining. Focuses more on humor than horror.
| Tremors 5: BloodLines (2015) | 4/5 | Monster | 2010s | Burt Gummer is called to Africa to face off against the oldest strain of Graboids and Ass-Blaster. These ancient beasts are larger, faster, and meaner than their American counterparts and their ferocity puts Burt's abilities to the test. | A brillant "reboot" of the franchise thanks to redesign of the Ass Blaster - making them larger and a lot scarier looking. The Africanized Graboids are a bigger threat also. A lot of great laughs throughout the movie with Micheal Gross being a joy to watch as Burt.
| Tremors 6: Cold Day in Hell (2018) | 2/5 | Monster | 2010s | Burt's previous encounter with a Graboid has left him poisoned. During a hunt in the Alaskan wilderness, Burt I sforced out of commission leaving the job to his son. Will they make it out of the icy wilderness alive? | The weakest of the franchise. The opening scene is supposed to bein the snow but it is clearly shot in a desert. Incapacitating Burt for a good chunk of the movie was a mistake and the special effects for the AB and Graboids are weaker than 3's.
| Troll Hunter (2010) | 4/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Three student film makers accidentally run into a hunter who slays trolls for the Norwegian government. They decide to follow him around on his hunts and discover that trolls are not just fairy tales. | Wonderful use of Troll lore throughout the entire movie. The CGI is pretty top notch for most of the film and the action is suspenseful and intense. Is able to maintain the premise without much slowdown from start to finish. Overall, a great concept with a great execution.
| Two Evil Eyes (1990) | 4/5 | Anthology | 90s | An duel-anthology film based around stories written by Edgar Allen Poe - the first being "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar" which was directed by George Romero and "The Black Cat" which was directed by Dario Argento. "The Facts" is about a cheating spouse trying to steal her husband's fortune while "Cat" is about a crime scene photgrapher sick obsession with his fiance's black cat. | Being written and directed by two masters of Horror, both stories are done wonderfully. The acting, cinematography, practical effects are all top notch. The only downside of the movie is the length - both stories start strongly but then begin to drag after the 2nd act. That said, still a solid movie.
| Undead (2003) | 3/5 | Zombie | 2000s | Small meteors fall to earth causing the dead to rise! Survivors must now band together with a local badass to kill the zombies and make it out of town before they become zombie chow! | A total splatterfest of exaggerated gore, violence, and action. A fun ride that gets a bit slow in the middle of the film before hitting an exciting finale. Good twist on zombies near the end. Has the best "Death by Soda Can" ever.
| Unknown Visitor (2020) | 2/5 | Found Footage | 2020s | Creepy incidents result in an accidental murder. Spirit returns for vengeance. Shot entirely on a front door security camera. | Interesting use of Gaslighting/abuse. Very rough dialogue and acting. At 50 minutes, perfect length. Easily forgettable.
| Urban Legend (1998) | 3/5 | Slasher | 90s | A serial killer hunts down and murders a bunch of college students. Uses classic urban legends as a way to off the students. | The kills are decent enough. Nothing too special but nothing too horrible either. A few dumb character moments but nothing that really detracts from the film. It is fun seeing how classic campfire stories are turned into kills. One of the better Post-Scream slashers.
| Urban Legend: Final Cut (2000) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2000s | Film students find themselves victims of a serial killer who bases their murders off local urban legends. | The first kill is easily the best one in the movie. The rest are decent enough but nothing mind blowing. The characters are dialed up to 100 in their individual cliches. Does keep you guessing on who the killer is though their motivation is pretty weak. More of a guilty pleasure than great movie.
| V/H/S (2012) | 3/5 | Anthology | 2010s | Some men are hired to break into a home and steal a specific, single VHS Tape. What they find inside is a corpse and a mountain of other tapes. While the others look for the VHS in question, one criminal decides to kick back and watch some of the movies. | Some stories are hit or miss but mostly hits. The first and second to last are the best stories - touching on some great supernatural themes. The third story is probably the worse of the bunch - horribly acted with a worse plot. Solid anthology overall though.
| V/H/S 2 (2013) | 3/5 | Anthology | 2010s | Private investigators discover a pile of videotapes that may reveal the location of a missing student. A psedo-sequel to V/H/S | Stronger anthology this time around but not without a few slow, lower quality segments. The final story is probably the best out of the group with a focus on cults. Still a lot of fun to watch for anthology fans.
| Valentine (2001) | 2/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A cupid-mask-wearing killer is hunting down college students after sending them horrific Valentine's Day cards. | Unlikable characters with very little personalities. Kills were bland and unimaginative. The twist was decent enough though.
| Vamp Father (2022) | 0/5 | Vampire | 2020s | A lady vampire who wishes to become human must expose a serial killer before she's blamed for his crimes. "Starring" Danny Trejo. | The whole movie is shot like a cheap porn. Pretty sure every scene takes place in the same building with the furniture rearranged. The acting hurts to watch, the plot drawn out and nonsensical, the murder-mystery element nonexistant, and Danny Trejo is only on screen for about 10 minutes.
| Velocipastor (2017) | 3/5 | Creature | 2010s | After the death of his parents, a priest runs away to China where he becomes cursed with the ability to turn into a giant Raptor. Together with a prostitute, the priest uses his new found powers to kill the wicked - including a sect of Christain Ninjas who wanthim dead. | Probably the best 'no budget' film of its genre. It works by being an obvious parody of other low/no-budget films. It's 70 minute runtime works in its favor by keeping the pacing quick and tight. Silly, dumb, and funny; does exactly what it sets out to do.
| Vile (2011) | 2/5 | Torture | 2010s | People are kidnapped and tortured so that a mysterious group can harness their "pain juice". | You are not watching this for the paper-thin story but for the kills and gore which this delivers in spades.
| Villains (2019) | 5/5 | Survival | 2010s | Two thieves are on the run. When their car breaks down, they seek refuge in a nearby mansion. What they don't know, however, is that the house is owned by a pair of sadistic psychopaths. Starring Bill Skarsgard, Maika Monroe, Jeffrey Donovan and Kyra Sedgwick. | Bill and Maika are the perfect horror couple; adorable dolts who are always supportive of one another. You cannot help but root for the two of them. Donovan is a delight with just how much he chews on the scenery whereas Kyra deliveres an eerie yet very sympathtic performance. Funny, suspenseful, with likeable characters; this was just a fun, simple, entertaining watch.
| Virus (1999) | 4/5 | Sci-Fi | 90s | A ship salvage crew comes across an abandoned Russian research vessel only to discover that it has been infected with an alien computer virus and the machines it created. | One part THING, one part Deep Rising. Some absolutely wonderful puppeteering and makeup! Loved the bio-mechanical monsters. Really enjoyed the action and gore. Lots of fun overall.
| Warlock (1989) | 4/5 | Fantasy | 80s | When an evil Warlock leaps forward in time, a witch hunter must travel from the past to the present to stop the Warlock from unleashing hell on earth. | This is Rated-R Hocus Pocus. From start to finish this movie has charm, humor, great kills, and fun characters. The Warlock and Witch hunter steal the show as they are both charismatic and just straight up entertaining to watch!
| Warlock 2 (1993) | 4/5 | Fantasy | 90s | The Warlock has been reborn and now seeks 5 mystical runestones to bring about the Apocolypse! Meanwhile a young man, raised by druids, must face his destiny and destroy the Warlock before it is too late. Not connected to the previous movie. | An entertaining cheesefest from start to finish. Wonderful practical effects, creative kills, and a fun cast. Julian Sands continues to protray the Warlock wonderfully and is a joy to watch. The CGI was horrible even when the movie was released but that only adds to its charm.
| Waxwork (1988) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 80s | The owner of a Wax Museum needs 18 victims in order to bring his wax figurines to life. He lures in local college students to teleport them into living renditions of his wax sets in order to have them sacrificed. | Really good makeup, gore, and kills. Fun storyline that carries the same vibe as other horror comedies (Chopping Mall, HOUSE, Army of Darkness). An absolutely ridiculous finale - if you want to see a man in an armored wheel chair fight a werewolf, this is your movie!!
| Waxwork 2: Lost in Time (1992) | 2/5 | Supernatural | 90s | The two survivors from the previous movie now must prove their innocence to a jury. To do this, they travel through various moments in time (throughout different movie genres) to find something that proves their innocence. | Movie starts and ends strong but the middle during the medieval portion drags on too long. The movie is best when exploring different movie genres/film styles. The HAUNTING tribute (With Bruce Campbell) and the time-traveling sword fight are the best parts of the movie. Some of the humor just falls flat. Yes that is DREW BARRYMORE in the Nosferatu section.
| WER (2013) | 4/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Lawyer tries to prove a man innocent of murder only to discover that he may be a werewolf. | Fun twist on "Realistic" werewolves. The main suspect is HUGE and properly intimidating. Has some great kills and a really fun final fight.
| Wes Craven's New Nightmare (2014) | 3/5 | Slasher | 2010s | Before SCREAM, Wes Craven got meta with Nightmare. Real-life actress Heather Langenkamp is having nightmares of Freddy Kruger during the filming of their new Nightmare movie. Wes Craven admits to the idea of Freddy coming from an evil entity that Heather may have to face off against in order to save her son's life. | Hands down one of the best carnations of Freddy. His new look is darker, meaner, and the updated claws (being bones instead of a glove) looks amazing. The kills are creative as always and the meta storyline adds a beath of fresh air to the long running franchise. Not perfect, but a great change to the formula.
| Willow Creek (2013) | 3/5 | Found Footage | 2010s | Couple looking to make a documentary about Bigfoot get exactly what they are looking for…with terrifying results. | Some great suspense during final 20 minutes. Typical ending. Focused a lot on "Heard, not seen" for suspense. Characters are just passable enough to root for. Overall does what it sets out to do.
| Winchester (2018) | 3/5 | Haunting | 2010s | The Winchester company hires a doctor to check in on the widow Winchester (Helen Mirren) who has grown increasingly paranoid that those killed by her husband's guns are after her. | While a standard fare in the Haunted genre, Winchester still manages to be entertaining. Has some great visuals and set pieces and while it is nothing special, it is still can be seen as enjoyable for some. Not groundbreaking but not boring or dull either.
| Wishmaster (1997) | 4/5 | Supernatural | 90s | A gemologist accidentally releases ancient genie who needs to gather souls in order to take over the world. | Deliciously cheesey. Andrew Divoff as the Djinn is hands down the best part of this movie. While some effects have not aged well, the overall concept is unique and fresh. Imaginitive kills, wonderful villain, and the pacing is on point.
| Witches of Eastwick | 2/5 | WitchCraft | 90s | Three friends end up being in a relationship with a myserious man who grants them powers. Stars Jack Nicholson, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Susan Sarandon. | Everyone is giving their A-Game - especially Jack who plays the eccentric lady's man Daryl. The story drags on a bit too long and there is not as much magic as would be expected. Mostly focuses on the relationship between the friends and Jack.
| Wither (2012) | 4/5 | Possession | 2010s | Several friends head to an abandoned cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun. After exploring the root cellar, one of the friends gets possessed by an ancient demonic force. The possessed then starts hunting down the remaining members of the group - spreading the possession like a disease. | This is, no joke, a Swedish version of Evil Dead. Movie gives just the right amount of time for character development before the horror kicks into high gear. The practical effects are absolutely wonderful - with a TON of gore that you usually don't see in modern horror. Only downsides are the sound design and the aburpt ending.
| Wolves (2014) | 2/5 | Werewolf | 2010s | A highschool teenager discovers that he is a werewolf. He runs away to the small town of Lupine Pines, accidentally ending up in the middle of a violent fued between rival werewolf packs. Co-Starring Jason Mamoa. | Decent for a werewolf movie. Very good practical makeup for the werewolves which was appreciated. Some good action set pieces and a decent enough story. The ending gets bogged down with cliches. Why is the werewolf sex scene hot af?
| Would You Rather (2012) | 3/5 | Torture | 2010s | Desperate to help her dying brother, Iris accepts an invitation to play a sadistic version of Would You Rather where the last person alive is given anything their heart desires. Starring Jeffrey Combs and Brittany Snow. | A familiar premise but one that is still executed well. Brutal, cruel, and mean - this movie is one of the better low budget torture films out there. Entertaining for what it is and worth checking out.
| Wrinkles the Clown (2019) | 5/5 | Documentary | 2010s | Follows the exploits of creepy internet sensation Wrinkles the clown. Discusses how he is hired to frighten children and how he became popular. | A wonderfully weird way of doing a documentry. Cannot give many details least it ruins the mid-movie twist. Fascinating look at this strange meme that is just as fun and crazy as it's subject Wrinkles.
| Zombie 3 (1988) | 3/5 | Zombie | 80s | A government-made virus gets loose resulting in a zombie outbreak on a resort island. Mostly Directed by Lucio Fulci. | Some odd directing choices (zombies standing still for no reason, footage sped up during some fight scenes, characters acting casual while being chased by a horde, etc). That said, it is still enjoyable enough for zombie fans. Good gore, decently paced, and lots of fight scenes during the second half.
| Zombie 5: Killing Birds (1988) | 1/5 | Zombie | 80s | College students look for a rare woodpecker and encounter zombies instead. | Has nothing to do with killer birds whatsoever. A large portion of the movie is dedicated to the students exploring the surroundings with very little happening during. The presence of zombies makes very little sense and sadly, only 2 of the kills are memorable.
| Vacancy (2007) | 4/5 | Slasher | 2000s | A married couple stop at a roadside motel while on their way home. They become the target of mysterious killers after discovering a series of tapes depicting the grisly murders of others who have stayed at the motel. Starring Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale. | Was very surprised at how suspenseful this movie was! After the initial setup it is pretty much non-stop suspense and excitement. Didn't need to rely on a lot of blood or gore to get its point across. Rather well done and highly recommended.
