Spreadwise hard has a lot consistency issues when it comes to spacing usage and having stupidly intense "calmer" sections. How do you end up mapping the beginning about 87 times as intensely as the main chorus? The 1/4 rhythm usage is a bit too much in both drop sections for this diff level I think. Additionally 01:42:952 (4,5,6) - 01:42:952 (4,5,6) - these patterns in a hard diff wouldn't get ranked any day. In the overall picture I do really feel like the different parts don't really come out on their own right, so they don't enhance each other either. And as a note you seem to be continuing the trend with specific sliderarts from the aspire 2018 entry which is not a good thing in my books even though this time you won't waste the whole intro into that idea. Silly background-comments aside, this goes really hard but still has very solid lower difficulties. Insane and Hard are very detailed and varied in their own right, yet fit well within convention. The set ends up feeling built up pretty well. Maybe some spacing changes on Hard would've been nice though, considering the complexity of Insane. In terms of the higher difficulties, I think they're great but sometimes it does feel like there's too many visual bells and whistles that ultimately hurts the mapping a bit. There's an abundance of big and "special" slidershapes. Since there's a different shape for every single synth, other purposes slidershapes like 02:12:758 (1) - 03:31:816 (1) - 02:20:522 (1,1) - 03:39:581 (1,1) - feel like they're part of the idea. Even sliders like 01:19:816 (1) - seem too fast without any real meaning related to the song. Especially feels true for the final section 03:47:346 - , where the map tries to finish strong but kinda bulldozes over the song that way instead. This kind of overly visual approach also ends up creating a lot of incoherent-feeling changes in spacing and intensity. There's patterns with huge spacing like 01:05:346 (1,1,1,1,1,2,1,2,3,4,1) - going into much much smaller ones 01:09:934 (1,2,3,1,1,2,1,2,1,2,3,4,1) - back into big spacing 01:13:111 (1,1,2,3,1) - . Sections like these end up rather unbalanced as a result, it's a lot of looks but not a lot of feel. Lastly, the same for New Combos. If you split up everything into 1-2 note combos then it's hard to really recognize the patterns in your mapping. eg. 01:28:640 (1,2,1,2,1,2) - are there really 3 groups of 2 or just 1 group of 6 ? It's just telling the player "there's a lot of sounds" and not conveying information of the song. The storyboard is pretty insane, there's so many small details that I keep finding every time I go through. What's not so great to me is all the bright flashing that goes on, they're not just distracting but to me they grew genuinely painful to look at. Nonetheless it works great with the song, there's always something going that grab the player's attention. Overall this makes the final product a real spectacle on the surface. Though when you take a deeper look it does make some hefty compromises to accomplish that. The gap between the 5* Insane and 7* top diff is enormous, so the players inbetween don't get to scratch their itch with this. I think the Insane is a proper insane but it does some underlying issues that hurt the experience. It often lacks good playfield usage because the mapping often just strings objects together, creating a rather linear and cramped experience. Best shown with stuff like 03:15:465 - through 03:27:465 - which is 10 seconds of being stuck to the center in one of the most intense sections. Especially if you start comparing sections this way, it's often only rhythm that changes and no other aspects of intensity. Luckily the song has a lot of rhythmically different sections so it's not completely ruined. On the highest difficulty this is also present but less of an issue. Subjectively I'd say that sections like 01:27:465 - would be more energetic if the jumps weren't always built around the sliders. For 03:13:065 - it does stand out to me that the player will just noodling around all the time, which is a shame for a climax. Other sections are lots of fun though and generally the map feels decently well-balanced for being this high in star rating, barring some silly spikes in difficulty. What this map does really excel at to me is having lots of unique feeling sections and enhancing that through the storyboard, playing through felt with storyboard really made me feel immersed. I think it's a combined credit of keeping the map reasonably simple to understand and making the storyboard just Epic. Combine this with the track going absolutely ham, I felt like I was on a trip through the galaxy with this one - holy, really cool. Mapping quality: The spacing and overall management of intensity on boths diffs is rather rough, especially on the top diff spacing changes and angles seems somewhat arbitrary, spacing out of sliders especially while stream spacing is often times way too high compared to the intensity of other parts. I appreciate the attempt at making somewhat more interesting patterns (especially in the lower diff), but sadly the inconsistent execution makes them lack, patterns like at 2:10 end up being rather unpredictable difficulty spikes. The differences between the two mappers are somewhat noticeable with respect to rhythm density and pattern difficulty which makes the set overall feel a bit less like a coherent project and more like a collab between people. I'm having a hard time because usually I'll criticize mistakes but this is the type of mapping I generally view as "Good". Lots of motion variety with good emphasis, fitting and interesting rhythms, never a dull moment in the map and most importantly for me: every section feels very balanced to play. I will say though, when going from Expert to Our Love some of the different choices are -very- striking. Mainly referring to 02:56:887 - , Expert has a very simple idea that fits the longer synths while on top diff I'm just getting everything thrown at me at the same time. Especially 03:06:316 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11) - I think nobody is ready for. "Our Love" ends up trying to bring out everything and brings out forward / tries to do too much, in my eyes. Similarly for 03:18:830 - the highest difficulty doesn't really map in a way that feels anywhere near closing, leaving a bit of an unfortunate impression when it meets its inevitably end. Also have to say that the spacing at 01:18:145 - on Expert is just weird and obnoxious to me. Otherwise I feel like I could stare at these for hours and only find minor nitpicks. Storyboard though .. eh. It has some lyrics, there's a cool background and some fades, but really doesn't enhance the experience. Personally I even found the flashing to be rather distracting rather than really adding something meaningful during gameplay. Compared some other entries I find this a significant downer. I personally believe on a few diffs like the top one there's some sliders where slider leniency abuse is ignored to fit the kind of mapping style the mappers where going for, but those are rather rare. Overall the pattern choice is daring and well executed which is nice to see. It's possible that the set could've been even more perfect, but what the mappers made as a team is very significant. Overall: The mapset overall is a very professional package on the level of a official rhythm game chart, the design of the background is very unique and simple, the song is extremely high quality and has a very meaningful structure which is reflected very well in the mapping. Skipping to the highest difficulty, CS2 was a surprise but quickly became dull. Most of the mapping doesn't really take the large circle size in mind, creating a map that is much too lenient to aim and doesn't make up for it otherwise. Take 01:39:340 - for example, the sliders look like the main idea but you can follow them blind-folded so it's hardly meaningful. Aside from this section 02:51:064 - the map ended up being really forgettable to me. It'd have appeal if there were a notable attempt at implementing CS2. Following from that the Insane is actually my favorite difficulty since it doesn't have these issues. It's simple but at least I can enjoy it. The keysounding also seems nice, but it's rather hard to notice here, so this too I don't really find a memorable feature Storyboard much in the same boat, it's nice for what it is but it has very little presence so it's easy to just forget about its existence. Actually I have no idea why you decided to put these sliders (04:26:265 (1) - 04:27:085 (1) - 04:27:671 (1) - 04:31:421 (1) - 04:33:765 (1) - ). Without a proper context its only ruin your concept. Next problem is music relevance. In addition to incosistent visual we are getting meager emphasis of melody in that part 02:07:515 - 02:35:640 - . Personally i'd map it with circles and higher SV to make contrast to others part. I am not a big fan of vocaloids but this remix sounds more unique than others entries. Especially Hard has some fun and spicy arranges for the bpm range, I appreciate that. As for the Insane, I think it's done fairly solidly but lacks a bit of impact. For example the ends of sections sometimes don't feel very emphasized, 01:12:202 (1,2,3,4,5,1,2,3,4) - 01:43:140 (1,1,1) - both fit in too well with the rest of the section to tell the player things are changing. Otherwise there's the occasional drop of pace that feels very halting in gameplay compared to its surroundings. Patterns like 02:13:140 (1,2,3) - 02:20:640 (1,2) - 04:17:358 (3,1) - etc all feel like big slow downs, often due to holding back 1/2 spacing a bit too much. The collab nature of this set does really come across more than in most entries though, every mapper has their distinct style and purpose in the mapping. Most outstanding to me is the video though, I love the changing atmospheres and the general quality of the editing and assets. The custom art is awesome! Really feels like I'm spending the night out alongside Miku and pippi .. which regrettably is the most weeb thing I'll ever say The choruses are intense though, really adding a layer of enjoyment to the gameplay and fitting the cool melodic drops. Hard incorporates more of the song and has better gameplay, but is generally still very comparable to your everyday ranked difficulty. Insane just doesn't introduce enough of the gameplay elements in "Our Love", so there ends up being a huge gap between them even if the star rating doesn't look like it. It also does a lot of weird things like adding this 00:43:556 (1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4) - 1/6 or filling the calm section with rather dense rhythms 00:55:749 (1,2,3,4,5,6,1,2,3,4,5) - 01:05:234 (2,3,4,5,6,7,8) - . Some sections like 01:53:233 - seem rhythmically unintuitive because they mix layers in an unclear manner. It's a lot more interesting in accordance with the song, though. Highest difficulty is really sick to play but a mixed bag design-wise. Mainly taking issue re-using the same patterns for different groups of sounds like 00:38:911 (1,2) - vs 00:26:524 (1,2) - etc, breaking the idea you established. These rhythms 00:54:685 (1,2,3,4,1) - really are too copy pasted and don't feel fitting with the song. Surprisingly I do like the general slider design visually, really suits the tense nature of the song. I do think 01:46:459 (1) - lacks contrast against 01:44:524 (1,2) - and that due to object placement the difference between 01:55:749 (2,1) - isn't really felt. The storyboard.. well it's there. For the most part when playing the map it felt more like a backdrop than something that's supposed to really add to the experience. It's nicely made but it doesn't do a whole lot with the song aside from visualizing the strongly felt heartbeat. Seems very well planned out with the remix at least, the track is really tense and an interesting twist on "my love". So, I think there's some cool ideas at play here but as a whole I can't rate this entry highly. A less substantial issue might be that the track is overall a bit too compressed (it fits in the drop sections, but not so much in the transitory parts). Besides that very good. Mapping quality: Probably the most unique and interesting to play entry out of them all. The use of many very short 1/8 and 1/4 sliders with still distinct bulky looking shapes close to each other does fit the very glitchy sound design and odd rhythmic patterns the song is going for. The rhythms and spacing mostly fit, slider leniency is considered rather well for something in this kind of style (with the exception of this 01:38:717 (1) - maybe). In my opinion the use of NCs is a bit excessive, but I guess it's expectable for something with this kind of mapping style (still not a fan). Sadly the Insane ultimately ends up lacking the same level of care, especially when it comes to slider leniency being taken into account and in general the insane is messier. The Normal and Hard end up being very basic. Taken all that into consideration we have a interesting ok somewhat well done top diff among rather mediocre lower spread. Interesting, but had more potential. Overall: Very interesting, very well produced remix, simple yet effective SB and a pretty creative top diff. Playing through the map goes like this (exaggerated): 00:03:170 - rotational ideas with 1/4 and 1/2 sliders 01:00:012 - rotational ideas with 1/4 and 1/2 sliders 01:37:906 - ... rotational ideas with 1/4 and 1/2 sliders There's a sense of build-up alongside the song at 02:03:169 - 02:15:801 - etc which is nice, but essentially ideas aren't built on - only repeated. The slow sections don't really improve on this, it's just long slow sliders and more long slow sliders and then there's this monstrosity 03:31:591 (1) - . Following and holding a slider for 12 measures isn't fun in any capacity. Then there's the ending 04:53:696 - where you just click 1/1 beats for 16 measures straight .. coming out of 04:28:433 - which is nearly the same. Combine this and you get a map that feels like it's constructed out of 2 patterns and some slow sections. You can turn of your brain and vibe to it but beyond that it's just Meh. How I feel about the storyboard is for some parts summed up by the question-mark at 02:43:531 - . I like the ideas of "the singer says Start so we'll put a finish line" but for a lot of the lyrics early on this is hard to catch on to. It'd be better if these were framed some way to make it obvious that they correlate to the song. I do like the visuals in the chorus, as least they match the kindof vibing nature of the map and song. The background seems custom drawn which is epic, then again it could be less empty too. I really feel like the experience is ruined by that long break + message in my opinion (Yea I'm really cynical but I think those should be left into map description / end of the map since just slapping a long ass break in the middle is so boring) and maybe because that the top diff is a bit too much for this kind of a song. Especially Easy feels like it only has 1 rhythm, both difficulties tend to go around the screen kinda aimlessly like 03:05:193 - on Normal and visually there's been attempts at representing different sections but not much of it comes across. I think it'd have been great to just use more long 2/1 sliders in general rather than only sticking to the smallest possible rhythm gap. Biggest issue for me is the 20s break that's used for your very wholesome message. This is neat but really puts a dent in how replayable the mapset is, on the second pass you know the message and it's just a waiting room. Might have been better to plan this out for the outro instead so it can be skipped. Storyboard is awesome. Every second of it just oozes the atmosphere that was intended, even the transitions are just ideal. The homage to both osu and it's iconic maps is also a nice touch, you could say this was made with love. Ofcourse the song fits in flawlessly, the team really seems to have worked together on this idea. Similarly here though, I think the 1.5 hypermeasure break hurts play experience inherently. Mixing wise I would've boosted the super highs a bit more (even if the song is supposed to have more of a lo-fi vibe), it would've been good if the sub was stereo for compatibility with subwoofers (it's good on headphones though). I personally think this is the most unique of the entries and maybe ironically the one with the best mix. lol Mapping quality: Nice mapping wise. On the top diff the rhythms are sometimes a little arbitrary I believe, but overall there's a good amount of rhythmic variation and the song is represented well enough. The spacing and movement on the top diff is overall nice while not particularly special and repeating idea of overlapping 1/4 sliders for the 80s style toms fits very well. Besides that the spread is well, each diff is made with care. Mapping would've been better if you either tried to do something with the red node spam sliders since they feel really inconsistent when rest of the mapping is "normal" and the gimmick barely gets used aside from select few occasions. Insane has some annoying double / 1/2 rhythm readability issues along with few general unnecessary readability issues with overlaps (unsure would these sliders 02:19:199 (1) -02:23:313 (1) - on I even be rankable with that unclear shape). Things like 01:10:627 (1) - are very cool to play and accompany the song pretty well. The controlled nature of all the ideas creates a smooth play experience which fits the theme of the mapset really well. It also plays really well with a storyboard, easily predictable yet varied and fun. There are cases where the play experience is a bit too smooth though, specifically the Hard diff feels very linear. Constantly the same flow with the same rhythms really only leaves the map without much progression aside from 01:07:885 - . Even the climax 02:57:599 - struggles at making something that's more engaging than the rest of the map. Insane is similar in the sense that the base spacing for the climax 02:57:599 - is introduced too early, spacing building up from here 00:34:970 - means by the end of the map it'll feel normal and maybe a bit underwhelming. This section 01:07:885 - is hurt by lack of slidershape changes as well, combine both musical expectations and what the other diffs do and you end up with the same circle 01:08:570 (3) - 01:10:627 (1) - being used for everything being really boring. Those issues are more or less offset by really purposeful use of pattern and rhythm changes in the rest of the map though, everything feels intuitive yet meaningful. The storyboard and song combine for the same chill yet kind of coooool vibe, the combination of the two really hits a bit different than what I'd expect from dnb. It's really cool to see subtle use of the layer above hitobjects here as well, seeing gradients appear on the circles really helps sell the atomosphere. Overall this mapset really combines into a relaxing yet unique experience that goes unmatched in its own way. Proof that a high degree of polish can get you far. | 音が綺麗に作られていて美しい曲でした!ドロップもかっこよかったです! | Remix Quality: Parts of the song are pretty good while others are oddly lacking production wise. For example the overall DnB style, the drums, many of the synths, the vocals etc. are very well done, but then other things like the bass sounds don't fit into the mix at all the way they are made, they seem to lack their own sub and other elements in the mix are too loud relative to them. There also doesn't seem to be any sidechaining happening which is important for this style of music. Composition wise there's actually a lot going on compared to a standard DnB style song which fits very well, but besides that there are very few calmer sections to change up the pace of the song. There's some potential here which could be further realized. Mapping quality: Mapping wise the entry is ok, but with some disagreeable design choices. In terms of rhythm I think most diffs have some headroom for improvement when it comes to following certain layers more consistently, often there's switching between rhythmic emphasis on drums and vocals, some diffs like the top diff put good emphasis on some 3/4 synth rhythms while others don't. The rhythms are nice to play, but I think they could follow the song even better. Overall on most diffs there isn't a very noticeable difference in terms of intensity between different sections of the song like through varying rhythm density or spacing. Slider leniency abuse isn't very well considered on the top diff in my view, but the design of most shapes fits the song. Spreading wise most of the diffs besides the normal are rather good, the hard with it's high amount of variation between stacked and spaced 1/2 plus some other overlaps is pretty daring, but I believe it works out. The normal in comparison with many patterns where the order of objects can be unclear to newer players and with some odd overlaps doesn't work out very well. Overall: Enjoyable set with some setbacks. The song is a mix of good and bad production with interesting composition, the mapset is decent with some semi-minor flaws and the storyboard is ok although some of the effects and background choices seem somewhat cliche... also I really don't like those growl hitsounds STOP! 15 | Lovers | I had such bipolar feelings for the remix in general, like the 2nd chorus is absolutely top notch along with the bridge between that and the last chorus but the distrorted parts didn't really hit home at all which was unfortunate. A bit too much off for the remix. Storyboard slaps HARD and works real nicely with the remix even if I find the heart chase to be a bit dumb. Mapping is real sweet and complements other aspects of the entry as well. | no comment | no comment | contact for comments | the remix was a bit jarring for me and I think it completely ruined the original song, sb is good tho | solid but no spread | XenjeS (10166905) This entry has definitely left the biggest impression on me overall, all aspects of the map are wonderful. The map is well made, the storyboard is excellent, oozing in amazing design, and the remix is fun and creative. The remix is quite competently made too. This entire package has lots of charm, which I think makes it stand out from all of the entries. One downside is that this map doesn't have a full spread, and while it's understandable that a full spread for a 5 minute song is a lot of work, these maps are going to be bundled in clean osu! installs, so having a full spread is very important. XenjeS (10166905) Really fun map that expresses the Remix very well, I'm overall very satisfied. Rhythm choices are good, lots of creative patterns and sliders (although it's missing an obligatory heart slider). | The map is offering some interesting challenge based on a trance remix. Impressive storyboard, the motion graphics fit well with the overall mood. Individual combos were well organized in neat placements. Mapping style fit well with the remix, but I think it was a little hard to understand the overall context of the music based on the map as the connection between the song and the pattern was a bit weak. | Um... is this on the wrong key...? Oh well. Storyboard fluctuates a lot between really epic and being super cluttered, still overall cool though. Not much of a fan of the map itself, feels like it misses the mark quite a lot in terms of making it actually fun and a lot of the patterning doesn't have very satisfying payoffs. | Good storyboard. On paper this is generally a really well made map, but it doesn't really hit the spot for me. It has a lot to do with expectations, like I can hear the preview so when the build-up ends in something distorted 00:52:623 - I expect something of similar nature mapping-wise. The sections after are just .. fairly vanilla though. That really courses through the map for me, the most intense sections are cool-ish but overall just too standard compared to the track you're mapping. Otherwise it's just missing emphasis or inconsistent with it. To give some examples: 01:06:741 (1,2,1,2,1) - the blip sound just blends into the increasing pattern. 01:15:388 (2,1,2,1,2,1,2) - rhythm notably changes in the song but is skipped to keep the pattern, same 03:34:270 (2,1,2,1) - . 02:15:917 - Rhythm here basically changes every measure so different ideas start clashing. Slidershapes and how objects are placed after sliders influences this as well. Despite using similar Slider Velocity ideas some sliders are a lot less intense than others eg. 04:04:623 (1,2) - vs 04:00:388 (1,2) - . 01:08:152 (1,2,3,4,5) - patterns like this basically don't feel like they exist. Placing the next object right at the slider-end for every object kills a lot of potential engagement because everything becomes the same slow straight slider in practice. So just the combination of all of these small design decisions, especially the kind of "over-variety", make it so the map doesn't come across to me as interesting or really "fitting" The storyboard surprisingly feels very similar to the mapping, there's a lot of different effects but aside from the lyrics they don't actually do much with the song or the mapping. I do like this part 01:27:917 - into 01:39:211 - , having some sort of narrative and creating a relatable mood is a lot more effective than putting video games in the background. I do like details like the black boxes around the text, making the lyrics more readable is a good play. For the most part this is very playable even with 0% dim, so I'll give you credit there So, I think all the components are solid and it's a cool track, but even when combining all the elements I can't seem to be wow'd by it. | 前半のノリの良い楽曲から、後半はで盛り上がって楽しい曲になっていました。 | Remix Quality: Very interesting song, I think I've never even really heard electronic music quite like this although sadly the uniqueness comes with some problems. Something which makes the track quite odd is that I believe the original vocals and the remix are using very different scales (maybe their even in a different key, can't really tell), it actually sounds kinda interesting to me personally, but I'm not sure whether it really fits (especially with the lyrics). Structure wise the song develops a quite a lot which lends itself somewhat well to mapping. The sound design is mostly good although the main bass sound potentially stand out a bit too much and the sub is a bit too loud, a bit more stereo separation of mids and highs would also help. Mapping quality: Good map. The rhythms fit relatively well even if following the vocal layer on this song is a bit tricky, there's a good amount of rhythmic variety, different sections have noticable differences in intensity and mapping style. I think if there's some issues one would be that the spacing can seem somewhat arbitrary at times and in a few sections is unnecessarily large. Otherwise the mapping is decent although it lacks anything special to make it stand out. Overall: At first I was a bit unsure about this entry, but the song although a bit odd is actually well made and the same goes for the map. The storyboard especially is really well designed, even if parts of it like the band with the girl don't seem to really fit the tone of the song lol | no comment | no comment | no comment | no comment |
