|I used an OER textbook, Le français interactif, to supplement course materials for my French conversation course. The OER textbook gave me access to videos, audio recordings, activities, and practical vocabulary for my course. It also gave me links to other useful online resources. |
Students appreciated the fact that the textbook was open access and easy to use. They also enjoyed fun songs and videos that are accessible through the OER. Each chapter offers weblinks that provide opportunities for students to apply their learning in "the real world." For example, there are links to current movie listings and a site where learners can find a pen pal.
Since my conversation course is constantly evolving and changing based on the group of students whom I am teaching, an OER textbook gives me the flexibility to develop my own learning materials that I can easily integrate into existing materials online.
I have only used the OER textbook once so far. I look forward to exploring all the resources and seeing how learners engage with them. It is extremely generous of the authors to share their work with the public. I appreciate how an OER textbook makes education accessible to more learners in that the cost of a textbook is no longer a barrier.
