| Where can I find the enrollment forms for entry to Kindergarten Fall 2022 and early Jumpstart Summer 2022? Also, if my son is advanced for reading (he has been reading since he was 2 and has comprehension and retention for texts about second grade level), what programs/resources are available to him as a K student? | The Kindergarten Enrollment process is detailed on the MCPS website and is done via ParentVUE starting March 28th. Our school is not offering Jumpstart this summer as far as we know. Our Reading Specialist, Molly Woods, is a great contact for questions regarding literacy. Our curriculum is set by MCPS according to the Kindergarten Common Core State Standards and we offer differentiated support in small groups within the classroom. |
| Where do we find the kindergarten registration forms? | The process is detailed on the MCPS website and linked into our Google Slides presentation on our website. Registration is done online via ParentVUE and opens March 28th. |
| I noticed the afternoon Carpool for K is a few minutes earlier than the other grades. Is it required we come at this early time or if we get there at the "normal" carpool time is that okay? | We begin our process for K dismissal a few minutes before the scheduled dismissal time to allow for our youngest students to more safely get through the halls in a timely fashion. We can not require a parent or authorized adult to be present before the scheduled dismissal time, but this is something you might want to discuss and plan for with your child so that they are not upset, scared, or nervous while waiting with their teacher for your arrival. |
| Once our student is registered, where do we submit their additional paperwork (ie. health forms, vaccination records, etc.)? | The process is detailed on the MCPS website and linked into our Google Slides presentation on our website. Registration is done online via ParentVUE. |
| How can we make any special requests with respect to teacher? | Our first goal is to ensure that students have a peer group in their classrooms that matches skills and abilities into a balanced class. We always make every effort to keep our students' academic, social, and emotional needs at the forefront. Parent requests for specific teachers are not part of this process. |
| What ESL services are provided to kindergartners who speak English and another language at home? | The Maryland Home Language Survey is part of the "New Student Information Form." Based on your responses to the questions, your child might be tested to see if the child qualifies or not. Services are provided to eligible students in the form of support from our ESOL teachers and classroom teachers who collaborate. The level of services and support varies depending on student need. More information on the MCPS ESOL program can be found here. |
| Good afternoon, I've registered my two sons, but I don't see where I can submit their health forms on ParentVue. When I log into ParentVue now, the only thing I'm able to do is register another student. Thank you for the help! | Hi. Please check out this helpful guide from the MCPS website for Kindergarten Enrollment: Kindergarten Registration Support Guide. We have removed your children's names and grades from this question to preserve privacy. |
| I'm registering my twin girls for Kindergarten and wondered if I should expect them to be enrolled in the same or different classes? Do parents get to express a preference? | Twins are usually enrolled in different classes. If this is not your preference, you can share this information with us in person at Kindergarten Orientation. Make sure you are signed up for a slot. |
| How long is recess for Kindergarteners? Are there any other opportunities for the children to spend time outside during the course of the school day? | Recess is 30 minutes. Several days per week, on a rotating schedule, classes eat lunch outside as well. There are times that lessons in science or other content areas occur outside. |
| How many kindergarten classes are you projecting for the 2022-2023 school year? And roughly how many students are in each class? | This school year we began with 5 classes that had to be collapsed into 4 classes of 25 students. As of today, June 6th, we only have 55 students registered. This means that by the end of the month we could lose further staffing. Please make sure your rising kindergarten student is registered, and make sure your friends and neighbors are aware of the impending staff reductions so that they too can register, regardless of the options they are considering. Class size follows MCPS guidelines which can be found on the MCPS website by searching "class size." |
| When are we able to register for after-school programs? The PTA website says that catalogues come home early fall which makes it hard to determine what schedules. Can you provide us an idea of how late the programs run? Thanks! | Please contact the enrichment activities coordinator found on the PTA website at: https://www.kppta.org/activities . I believe the programs run on different schedules, and they are not scheduled by the school. They likely run until about 5:00pm. It's likely you could additionally use Bar-T for coverage after clubs if necessary. |
| I can see from my parentVUE only my first kid's name. I registered from online and get a reply of acceptance from Ms. Allen, but cannot see the name from my parentVUE. Thank you. (names removed for privacy) | Please call the front office to verify that we have all of the required forms. It may take some time to process all forms and show up in ParentVUE. |
| What is KPE's policy for identifying and responding for giftedness at 5 yrs? | Teachers are continuously assessing students informally to differentiate content and meet student needs. Small groups in literacy are based on ability and needs, and math can also be enriched. In MCPS students are not formally identified as gifted before the end of 2nd grade. |
| I want to make a teacher request for my incoming kindergartener based on older sibling. Please let me know how to put in the request. I was told ParentVue but I don’t see an option in there. | Please complete the Parent Input Survey for Articulation, but understand that our goal is balanced classrooms, and teacher preference is not part of this process. |
| I see school supplies are already out in the local target. When will we get a list of materials kindergarteners need for school? Do you have recommendations on backpack size? | Supply lists are available on our website. You should choose a backpack that your child is able to carry themselves, even when loaded with a lunch, snack, and perhaps some supplies. Rolling backpacks tend to be hard to lift, maneuver, and deal with - especially for students who ride a bus. |
| How many classes are projected as of now ? And the sizes?
| At orientation, Kindergarten back to school night was mentioned for August 25, but I can’t find any information about this. Please confirm!
