Game one required 13 innings, indicating just how competitive these two squads are. Both teams received effective starts from their starting pitchers De Pere's Wyatt Fischer and Bay Port's Theo Zeidler. Fischer struck out five in six innings and allowed just two runs, while Zeidler K'd seven in five and allowed just two earned as well. Two-way seniors entered the game in relief and dueled for the next seven frames. Bay Port's Eli Frank pitched seven shutout innings in relief, allowing just one hit, one walk, and he struck out five. J.P. Gauthier shut out Bay Port over the next six until Zeidler connected for a walk-off double in the bottom of the 13th. For De Pere, sophomore Quinn Falish slugged a two-run homer in the fourth that gave his team a lead that nearly won it. In the bottom of the seventh, walks helped Bay Port tie it to take it to extras. In game two, senior Carl Cano pitched six strong for Bay Port, and he didn't get into trouble until his final inning of work. Cano finished with six Ks and allowed just two runs on five hits, two walks. For the Pirates' offense, they got out to a 5-0 lead with the help of an inside-the-park three-run homer from John Nickel. The sophomore Falish started on the mound in this one for De Pere and was solid, with seven Ks in four innings, despite getting stuck with the loss. | ||||
