| A Race at Preposition Park | Parallel Story About the Rat Race
| (Using Expressions as Metapors)
| Narrator: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 00:00 to 00:24 -- Introducing the Race (into, out of, up, down, around) | The Workday -- Introduction
| Welcome to Preposition Park! | Hello! I have to tell you about my day at work!
| Today's contestants will have to go into, out of, up, down and around a variety of dangerous obstacles so YOU can learn how to use prepositions of movement. | It was a real race from start to finish. I started out early because our projects were behind schedule
| The contestants are about to start. | .
| Let's join them in the park. | I joined up with my co-workers for breakfast in the café across the street from the office.
| 00:24 to 01:01 -- First Challenge (across)
| The first challenge is to get across Alligator river. | The Workday -- At the Breakfast Meeting
| OOOooooohhh! | At breakfast, we had a meeting with the people in accounting.
| Steph reaches the river first. | We needed to get across to them the kind of budget we needed.
| She's taking the bridge across the river. | Our own factory was really backed up; so, we might not get to our goal in time for the summer sales season.
| It's the easiest way across -- but also the longest! | That would take a big bite out of our profits!
| Alan decided to swing across the river. | Outsourcing to an additional plant would be the easiest and fastest solution.
| Hope he doesn't get bitten! | Our chief engineer did swing by to explain the technical details.
| Jessica is taking the zipline across.
| And she gets to the other side first!
| 01:01 to 01:57 -- Second Challenge | The Workday -- The Company's Office Building
| Next, the contestants have to jump over the three pits, each more dangerous than the last. | After breakfast, I hurried across the street and into the company's building.
| Jessica jumps over the fire pit easily, then the snake pit. | I jumped into the elevator and got to my office on the 3rd floor first, before anybody else arrived.
| Oooh, she landed in the quicksand! | Well, the President of the company might have arrived before me because he arives in a helicopter.
| She'll have a hard time getting out of there. | He flies over the city and lands on the roof of the building.
| Alan is next. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| He has an easy time jumping over the first two pits. | The Workday -- In the Office
| And look at that! | There has been a recent shortage of hardware we use which has landed us in hot water.
| He stopped to help Jessica out of the quicksand! | My boss went over some ways to get around the problem.
| Meanwhile, Steph jumps over the fire pit easily. | This is a situation we can’t run away from.
| Wait, what is she doing? | And we must get out of the production slowdown it has caused.
| She's going around the snake pit! | Our suppliers are willing to help us out with new, alternative products and ideas.
| Is that even allowed?
| Uh oh! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The snakes are slithering toward her.
| And she's running away from them fast!
| Run to the forest! Run!
| 01:57 to 02:50 -- Third Challenge
| Now for the third obstacle.
| Steph has to crawl under the electric wires, then into one of the three dark pipes. | The Workday -- Safety Rules
| Steph chooses pipe number one. | Then production held a meeting to go through their new safety rules in detail.
| She crawls into the pipe, followed by Alan, who chooses pipe number three. | The manager was under the weather.
| And Jessica is last to crawl under the wires, so she gets pipe number two! | But his assistant figured out how to run his pre-recorded video presentation.
| The contestants are all crawling through their pipes. | Production had an OSHA citation last year.
| Jessica comes out of her pipe at the bottom of the mountain, ready for the final challenge. | However, they got to the bottom of their problem and came out ahead in the long run with more efficient procedures.
| Uh oh! Alan has come out of the pipe as well and into the dirty pond. Gross!
| Where is Steph? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Oh there she is, coming out of pipe number one at the beginning.
| She chose poorly, and has to crawl into and through pipe number two.
| 02:50 to 03:32 -- Fourth Challenge | The Workday -- At Lunch
| Jessica has started the final challenge, with Alan right behind her. | At lunch I cheered up.
| They must climb up the mountain, and along the edge of a steep cliff. | My friend Tony from Marketing caught me up on his news. There was a steep increase in new clients.
| They are both scared but doing well! | Although sales fell off last winter, the buildup of new, local customers has offset that
| Ooops, Alan almost fell of the cliff, but Jessica has saved him. | Then, Judy in HR said her new interns are getting along well.
| They're really looking out for each other. | She thanked everybody for looking out for them.
| Meanwhile, here comes Steph, up the mountain and along the cliff edge in a hurry. | The Workday -- A Fire Alarm
| Careful girl! | After lunch we started upgrading the computer system.
| They have gotten to the top. | But toward the end of the day the fire alarm went off!
| And there are three ways off of the mountain. | We grabbed essential belongings and got out of the building.
| 03:32 to 04:01 -- Fifth Challenge | I was frustrated but tried to calm down.
| Alan chooses to fly off of the mountain. | This was probably just a breakdown in the alarm system.
| And Jessica decides to ski down. | But we didn’t need another slowdown in our work!
| Steph is last, and she grabs a parachute.
| Oh, it's a close race.
| All three are racing toward the finish line.
| It's going to be close! | The Workday -- A Successful Computer Upgrade
| 04:01 to 04:38 -- End of Race | Luckily the upgrade had been going forward onto the final stages, automatically, at that point.
| It's a photo finsih. And the winner is.... It's incredible! | It finished up OK by itself while we were standing around outside the building.
| All three crossed the finish line at the exact same time! | Back in the building, we celebrated having survived the upgrade in good shape.
| We have three winners today! | The new software really was a winner!
| Our contestants are all going onto the podium together.
| What a beautiful moment!
| We're just glad they all survived!
| Thannks for joining us for this episode of Preposition Park. | The Workday -- Conclusion
