17 | Cape Lookout 28 # 1 Build Log | Cape Lookout 28 Hull Number: 1 Location: NC USA Comments: "If she floated any better we wouldn't be able to stand it! She ran 53- 54 mph. But she is the beat sea boat I have ever been on that size and can maintain her speed in alot of sea. I want to make a few changes in the next one to take out alittle weight and either use Yamaha 300's or E-Tec 300, These engines were heavy for the power and I was never carried off with them. I had issues with the dealer the owner bought them from so I may not be giving them a fair break, but they would not be my first choice. She handles like a sport car and I would not change the bottom at all. Runs good, rides great, trims perfect." -Capt Hugh Wilde | More Pictures! | -

19 | Core Sound 17 # 401 Build Log | Core Sound 17 Hull Number: 401 Location: Maianbar NSW Australia Comments: G’day, I’m John, I enjoy reading all your stories & thought I might chime in. This is my core sound 17 I’m building in Australia. I was attracted to the design by the cat ketch rig, capable seaworthy hull & potential performance. I started In April & am about 300hrs into the build. I hope to launch before Xmas. As well as the work on the hull & deck, the foils & masts have been completed. As the build has progressed I’ve been more & more impressed with the R&D and attention to detail which has gone into the design. I grew up in a sailing family and have raced performance sail boats most of my life. In recent years much of it solo ocean racing. Anyway I’m in my mid fifties now & in the last couple of years have turned more to cruising. I hope to complete some challenging coastal passages in the new boat. Cheers John | - | - | -
20 | Core Sound 17 # 381 Build Log | Core Sound 17 Hull Number: 381 CarrieB Location: Milwaukee WI USA Comments: "I'm very impressed with the kit. The plywood cuts are clean and precise. The deckbeams have rabbets and bevels cut, very clean. Many pieces are marked with pencil for location of stringers, beams, bulkheads, etc. Scarfs are all made. I could never replicate this kind of accuracy; then again, I don't have a CNC table. Well worth the $$." "It's fast, it's weatherly, it daysails, it camps. It's a wonderful boat, solo or with a group." | More Pictures! | VIDEO!

25 | Core Sound 17 # 199 Build Log | Core Sound 17 Hull Number: 199 Location: AK USA Comments: I extended the effective water line by adding a reverse transom skirt making the boat 20 foot long at the waterline. I added a cuddy based on Graham's EC22 and a motor well based on the Princess. I wanted a simpler rudder so I modified the rudder to a kickup blade hung in a rudder box and held in place with shock chords. I can lift the rudder blade when transporting, storing or when I want to motor or beach her. I do have oar locks. The mast are two piece: alumin lower with clear fur upper. I used sail tracks. | - | -

28 | Core Sound 17 # 102 Build Log | Core Sound 17 Hull Number: 102 Jubilee Location: Comments: I'd day sailed on Core Sounds and a Princess quite a few times over the years, but this was the first time that I've had serious tiller time for a full week of sailing. I finally started to understand how to really sail a cat ketch and by the end of the week, my sails seemed to be trimming up pretty nicely. Actually, on the first day, Jubilee beat the entire fleet into the first night's destination (with Travis' P22 hot on our heels). The rest of the fleet arrived to see the two B&B boats already sitting snugly on the beach. Heh heh heh. | - | - | - | -

35 | Core Sound 20 # 179 Picture Album | Core Sound 20 Hull Number: 179 Etörnity Location: Aurich Germany Comments: We can proudly and happily announce that today "Etörnity" was the first time on the water, we are very pleased. The name is a play on words: "Törn" is the name for a boat trip in the local dialect. We had the sails made at the "Tuchwerkstatt Greifswald" (Rolly Tasker Sails Germany). The position of the spar of the mizzenmast obviously needs to be corrected, due to wrong measurements. The masts are Laser masts with additional sail tracks. Intended modifications of the original construction plan: - sloping stern with breakaway edge, - shape of cockpit, - profile of coaming (prepared to accept a tent), - mizzen mast to be folded down like the main mast, with the mast spar being pinned. - additional bulkhead flush with leading edge of centerboard box. Other modifications result from faulty building ... ;-) | More Pictures! | -

It was blowing 1-4 kts. with gusts up to 6 kts.. It was still enough to prove that my boat came out as a facsimile to the pictures Graham drew because she handles like a sports car. The acceleration, even in the light puffs we (my wife Lin and I) had was immediate. I have concluded I like the boat, and will keep it. | - | -

70 | Marissa # 55 Picture Album | Marissa Hull Number: 55 Location: Chesapeake VA USA Comments: The boat finally saw water this evening! Testing some props and she's a great running boat so far. Have to try 1 or 2 more props and once the leaning post gets built it will be ready to roll. I will say it likes a 4 blade prop better than a 3 blade. She hops right out of the hole and turns on a dime at speed. Very well designed boat Graham and Alan! Will post final performance numbers soon when it's dialed in but right now I'm seeing 2.2 gph at 22knots, nothing short of amazing in my book! | More Pictures! | -
71 | Marissa # 36 Build Log | Marissa Hull Number: 36 Location: USA Comments: For anyone debating this type of hull I have put mine through more extreme test then most. Hull is very stable but, I did reinforce the floor between the two seams running stem to stern. I didn't like the feel of the floor when I walked on it so I pulled it up and stiffened the seam by running a two by four brace. The boat runs at 27 miles an hour with a 40 hp Honda on the back and burns 1/4 a tank an hour . The ride is extremely dry. It keeps the water off of the driver except in 60 mile an hour winds.( I did say I took mine through the mill) She handles 5 foot chop easily if you know the ropes . I was actually impressed with its ability to avoid spearing. She actually chops those bad boys in half and expels the energy to the sides. Leave lots of time to answer a million questions when you reach the dock.ps. She weighs in at 1200 pounds equipped and motored ... very light. | - | -

76 | Ocracoke 20 # unkn2 Build Log | Ocracoke 20 Hull Number: unkn2 Location: Croatia Comments: The builder added a foredeck and cabin to the bow of the boat making her more of a dual console layout. From the builder, "Boat is one foor longer than original (21 foot) and has 700 kg. The engine is Evinrude 130 etec and maximum speed is 37 knots at 5600." | - | -
77 | Ocracoke 20 # unkn1 Build Log | Ocracoke 20 Hull Number: unkn1 Location: Auckland New Zealand Comments: Went out for the maiden voyage tonight. 48 mph at 5700 and was still winding out. very happy indeed. Not bad figures for a 20 ft boat with only a 115. At 4200 rpm its sitting real nice @ 34mph retuning 7 gallons p/hr. Carb engine, pretty good economy. The ride was beautiful, very smooth.... rides up onto the plane easily while hull remains farily level, very impressed. High speed turns showed no prop venting... it just hung on like on rails. The trim tabs work great , with both of us on one side at 30 mph a simple touch of button had boat pefectly level and super stable. Also very stable at rest... sure it healed slightly with crew on one gunnel... but that was to be expected ... it aint a catermaran. All up I was bloody happy. Have been in alot of boats over the years and this was right up the with the best of them. The conditions werent exactly testing but punching across ferry wake @ 40 mph showed no signs of anything scary at all. smooth, composed and quiet. Congatulations Graham on your hull design. It works well., turns alot of heads too. People all over the marina were pitching up to look at her. | - | -

81 | Ocracoke 20 # 70 Build Log | Ocracoke 20 Hull Number: 70 Location: Mgarr MGR Malta Comments: Results: 6300 rpm 41 kts and 70 l/hr in very calm water (47 miles !! ? ) I liked the best cruising speed of 21-22 knots ( 25 miles ) at around 3600 rpm . She cuts trough bigger chops like knife into butter with no splashes and slamming sounds and a very dry ride all thanks to Graham and his hull designs ! The boat rides much more stable with the trim tabs slightly trimmed down at speeds of 18 kts and over. This may be because of a heavier bow that can be addressed with a better weight distribution . The propeller is a 16" diameter by 20"pitch attached to a Suzuki df200ap and think it is under propped as the engine is revving up to 6300rpm that is its limit. May be a 21 or 22" will be much better all over the rpm range . But don't know how this will effect the fuel efficiency !! Over all I am very happy and satisfied with the results and the whole project ! Would like to say a big THANKS to Graham for all his help and patience answering my questions ( a lot of questions !! ? ) and also all members in this forum that contributed with their comments ! | - | -
82 | Ocracoke 20 # 40 Build Log | Ocracoke 20 Hull Number: 40 Location: Colorado Springs CO USA Comments: Boat, motor T-top and trolling motor no fuel or batteries came to 1900 lbs. Take away about 550 for motor, T-top and trolling motor leaves weight of the hull at about 1350lbs. Lighter than I expected. Took a trip to Red Lake, Ontario, about 1200 ft elev, for five days of fishing. With the smaller pitch prop, myself, my two sons total about 600 lbs and fishing gear, motor topped out at 6100 rpm and 38 mph, great handling, quick onto plane, great on turns except on turns in 20 +/- mph wind she skidded a little, little if any skidding in lower wind speeds. Overall a wonderful boat. | - | -
83 | Ocracoke 20 # 39 Build Log | Ocracoke 20 Hull Number: 39 Location: Comments: Lots of custom mods on this great build... "I am so happy with the performance. A well mannered hull with such a dry and smooth ride. At-rest stability was great as well. All the hard work was suddenly forgotten after seeing my wife and young sons face light up we put the throttle down - which was approaching 40knots on the yamaha gauge! He has been a champ helping me out from time to time on the project and was 4 years old when we started (now 9 years old). Most of all, I wanted thank to thank Grahame and the B&B team for such a great design, and plans which were so accurate and simple to follow. You are a very talented designer." | More Pictures! | -

Love the Evinrude G2. We hit 40 knots in a light chop. The boat is very dry and easy to handle. Unfortunately we had no chase boat for on water shots but that will follow soon. I think we made it to be first ones on the water with an Ocracoke 256 but would have to have that confirmed by others. 95 | Outer Banks 20 # unkn1 Build Log | Outer Banks 20 Hull Number: unkn1 Location: Madison CT USA Comments: "The boat performed flawlessly. The whole trip was more than 140 miles and we used 16 gallons of gas. With four people, gear and a full tank of gas, top speed was 25 knots heading into the wind/chop. There are always little things you would do differently after you complete a build but I have to say I am really happy with this one. The hull, in particular, is just outstanding. Light, quick to plane, soft ride, dry." | - | - | - | -

About 80 percent of the people will say, what a beautiful restoration. People in Montana are not familiar with the Maine lobster boat configuration. It has been a lot of fun talking to people about the boat." -Mr. Bacon | More Pictures! | -

102 | Outer Banks 20 # 12 Build Log | Outer Banks 20 Hull Number: 12 Ronnies Raft Location: USA Comments: The boat weighs 1705 lbs dry. With all of our gear for the weekend, fishing equipment, 20 gallons of gasoline, a cooler full and four adults, it came up on the plane within seconds and cruised at 25 mph at 4800 rpm. I didn't really push it, but I was surprised and impressed with the 5600 rpm hole shot. It is a great looking boat that can troll at 2 mph at 800 rpm; perfect for down rigger fishing. | - | -
103 | Outer Banks 20 # 1 Build Log | Outer Banks 20 Hull Number: 1 Jeanie Location: Harlowe NC USA Comments: More photos. Built in 2008 by Chick Ludwig in North Carolina. A classic Lobserboat with a twist. This hull is the only Outer Banks 20 to have a more traditional "warped plane bottom". All subsequent models have a monohedron bottom which is standard for pretty much all modern planing hulls. | More Pictures! | VIDEO!

It is said there is no such thing as a perfect boat. Today I had a hard time finding truth in that statement. She glided off her trailer and floated PERFECTLY on her lines." "The designed displacement is 3,360. I weighed her on the trailer and she came out at 3,000lbs." 109 | Paw Two 7 # 792 Build Log | Paw Two 7 Hull Number: 792 Catnip Location: Manassas VA USA Comments: She rows very nicely. More importantly, she's fairly easy to board from Chessie's cockpit. I just sit on the coaming with my feet outboard and on Catnip's bottom. Holding Catnip close to Chessie's side, I can place my feet at the centerline of Catnip -- swing myself into Catnip while transferring my hands the the dinghy's gunwales while keeping my CG low. Reboarding is a little tricker. | - | -
110 | Paw cats 8 # 780 Build Log | Paw cats 8 Hull Number: 780 Storm Petrel Location: Burnaby BC Canada Comments: I took it out for a bit solo to make sure it wasn't homicidal; it's like a jet compared to our current tender. I'd row for a bit and all kinds of stuff that was off in the distance would sneak up behind me; very unnerving. The long sweep of the oars is probably going to bite me in the ass in the bay but it'll be great for fishing and crabbing so what the hell. It literally moves at twice the speed of the boat it's replacing. I took the wife out for a spin; she's happy because it seems stable and easy to row. The river we're on here is really busy with commercial traffic so we got to take on a bunch of big wakes which this boat is much more capable of handling than our other one. | - | -

119 | Spindrift 12 # unkn5 Build Log | Spindrift 12 Hull Number: unkn5 Location: Gold Coast Australia Comments: Just thought I would share some photos of the Spindrift 12 that I built for my 11 year old son. We use this boat extensively for fishing and sailing. I took most of these photos today when I went for a sail by myself in 15 to 20 knot winds. I was quite surprised sailing downwind and doing what I would think to be 10 knots plus with water spraying everywhere and I was having a ball. I have never sailed this fast in this boat before. Just as well I was by myself as my son would have been crapping himself. What a boat. I can't wait to build the Coresound17. I can pick the boat up by myself so I would say that it is no more than 50 to 60 kilos (110-130lbs). You should be able to roof rack it if needed. I made a very light weight trailer for it. You will love this boat. My son and I went out sailing again yesterday and we had an awesome days sail and hopefully we will be out there again tomorrow. I am very happy with the performance of this boat. I used a second hand Laser mast. She rows quite well with 7 foot 6 inch oars and she sails wonderfully for such a small boat. You will not be disappointed if you build it. | More Pictures! | -

We added an above the waterline sole in the bow section. It is self bailing through the centerboard trunk and provides quite a bit of dry and hidden storage. 126 | Spindrift 9N # 1579 Build Log | Spindrift 9N Hull Number: 1579 Location: Berlin Germany Comments: We built the dinghy in exactly a month (CNC cutting on January 6th, splashed on February 7th). The dinghy both rows beautifully, and fits on our deck without problems. we also took the chance to measure the weight of the dinghy: 14kg for the bow section, 22.5kg for the stern section. So 36.5kg (80lbs) for the whole dinghy. | More Pictures! | -

The boat is very sturdy and behaves well in higher waves.Last year, during the pandemic I built my Spindrift 10 boat, hull number 1430, here in Brazil. It was named PIXEL. I sail it on the Itupararanga lake, near my house. Construcion was straightforward, because of the detailed plans and instructions. It took me 2 months, or 300 hours altogether.
