|Education Research||“Freeing the Gifts the ADHD Mind”|
Reframing Attentional Disorders as Valuable Differences
|I’ve lived a life in which I’ve walked in one hand with a 20 year old diagnosis of Bipolar Mood Disorder, and in the other hand with a four year old diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Join me on a personal journey of tears and laughter of success and failure. Stopping along the way, we will explore three defining characteristics of ADHD that are often not taken into consideration: Interest Based Nervous Systems, Emotional Hyperarousal, and Rejection Sensitivity. We will end with a practical exploration into what we can do as educators, parents and spouses to help that person, gifted to you with a beautiful ADHD mind, become the happy, healthy and actualized human being we all have the potential to become.||Ian||Hunt||Mid-Pacific Institute|
|Education Research||Using Improvement Science to Prepare School Leaders||Improvement Science is a foundational mindset for training school principals in the Hawai'i Department of Education’s (HIDOE), New Principals Academy (NPA). Over the past year, the NPA program has utilized grounded theory research generated from the fieldwork of school principals to improve future trainings. As a result, trainings have been amended to implement iterative systemic changes while developing student achievement programs. |
Attendees will learn about HIDOE leadership programs, and how Improvement Science 1) teaches systems thinking, and 2) operationalizes continuous growth. HIDOE will also share NPA Improvement Science training tools, and open conversations about developing positive approaches for contextual complexities.
