Joliet Catholic put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, putting up four runs to make it 7-1 at the time. The Hill had the bases-loaded with no one out before Brett Hulbert (2023) started the scoring with an RBI single, making it 4-1 at the time. Freshman Lucas Simulick quickly plated another run with a fielder’s choice, followed by a double from Graham Roesel (2024) and a heads-up base-running play from Andrew Struck (2023), making it 7-1 after five. Notre Dame was threatening in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded and one out. The Dons were able to plate one on a passed ball to make it 7-2, but the game would end with a line-drive up the middle that LHP Jacob Gimbel was able to snag out of the air. He then proceeded to double up the runner at first to end the game and eliminate the threat. The Hill took an early lead in the top of the first. Jake Troyner (2024) started the scoring with an RBI single, plating Roesel to make it 1-0 at the time. Senior Louisville commit Trey Swiderski plated Tommy Kemp (2023) with a fielder’s choice shortly after, making it 2-0 at the time. Niles struck back in the top of the second inning, thanks to an RBI double from Tim Witchger (2024) to make it 2-1 at the time. Joliet would add on insurance in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-1 at the time, as Kemp singled through the left side to plate Simulick, who doubled earlier in the frame. RHP Aidan Hayse (2024; Tennessee) got the start on the mound and was impressive over his four innings of work, not allowing an earned run on two hits, striking out nine against three walks. The right-hander worked his fastball up to 91 mph, sitting mostly in the 89-90 mph range, reaching back for 91 mph again in the fourth inning. He flashed a well above-average breaking ball at 75-79 mph with swing and miss potential. Tech Analysis, Area Scout In the first of a three game Southwest Prairie Conference series, Yorkville defeated Oswego East 5-1. Yorkville wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Junior lead-off hitter Sebastian Westphal got the inning started with a double to right field. Two batters later, lefty hitter Kameron Yearsley pulled a single through the infield to bring home Westphal. Later in the inning after Yearsley stole second, Everett Ford (2023) singled to right field to score Yearsley and make it 2-0 after the first. The scoring and added insurance runs stalled until the sixth inning when Yorkville scored three runs to make it 5-1. With two outs in the innings, Michael Dopart walked to keep the inning alive. Daniel Rodriguez got hit by a pitch and Westphal drew a walk to load the bases for Nate Harris (2024, Northwestern). Harris took the first pitch he saw in the at-bat down the left field line for a bases clearing double. Oswego East's lone run came in the top of the fifth. Derek Kubek (2024) led the inning off with a one out single to left field. Kubek would later come around to score on an errant pick-off throw and make it a 2-1 game. Minnesota commit Simon Skroch (2024) got the start on the mound for Yorkville. Skroch worked a clean six innings, striking out 11 of 26 batters faced and gave up one unearned run on six hits. Skroch used a three pitch mix in a fastball, curveball and a changeup. A four-seam and two-seam fastball sat 81-84 mph and was used to attack hitters early.
