Lockport was able to grab the lead in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back. Chasing two runs at the time, Jake Schindler (2023; McHenry County) deliverd an infield single up the middle to plate Joey Manzo (2023) who was hit by a pitch to start the inning, making it 2-1 at the time still in favor of Joliet Catholic. Uncommitted Senior Jake Moerman would then step in and crack a ringing double off the right-field wall, plating Anthony Martinez (2023; South Suburban JC) and Caden Miller (2023; Alvin CC) to give the Porters a 3-2 lead. Joliet Catholic got their scoring started early in the top of the first inning, with Vinnie Spotofora (2023; College of DuPage) delivering a single to right field to plate Thomas Kemp (2023), who reached base via a walk - making it 1-0 at the time. Spotofora would deliver once again in the top of the third inning with an RBI double, plating Jake Troyner (2024) who reached base via a single - making it 2-0 at the time. Uncommitted junior Dylan Nagle got the nod for the Porters and earned the win after he fired four innings with two earned runs - striking out six to pair with five walks. The right-hander impressed in the sub-50 degree weather with a fastball up to 89 mph, sitting mostly 86-88 mph early on. He went to a sharp breaking ball at 75-76 mph, thrown often and with conviction to miss barrels. He also flashed a changeup at 81 mph when he needed it, thrown with arm-speed and deception. LHP Jacob Gimbel toed the rubber for Joliet Catholic and was also impressive despite receiving the loss. The uncommitted junior fired five strong innings with three earned runs, seven strikeouts and no walks. He attacked the zone routinely throughout his outing with three pitches, most notably his slurvy breaking ball at 71-72 mph that he was able to land for a strike in any count. Setting up his breaking ball was his sinking fastball at 82-85 mph, along with a fading changeup at 78 mph that played from a similar fastball window. RHP Cal Korosa (2024) came out of the 'pen for the Porters and supplied two quality innings of relief - not allowing a single hit or run and striking out four with two walks. The aforementioned Anthony Martinez notched the save for the Porters with one inning of work, working his fastball up to 86 mph and flashing a sharp 11/5 breaking ball at 72 mph. RHP Nate Cienmy (2023; Wisconsin-Parkside) tossed one scoreless inning for JCA, not allowing a hit and striking out one - running his fastball up to 85 mph to pair with an 11/5 curveball at 72 mph. The game was a pitching duel between Glenwood’s Parker Detmers (2023; Louisville) and Triad’s Austin Brown (2023; Chipola). Brady Coon (2024) led the game off for Triad with a double to right field followed by another hit from Carter Vandever (2024). Coon and Vandever both eventually scored on wild pitches in the inning, putting the score to 2-0 going into the bottom of the first. Parker Detmers came into the second inning dealing, pounding the zone with strikes with both his fastball and curveball. He struck out the first two batters swinging and struck out the third batter looking. Austin Brown held the Titans at bay, throwing four innings of one hit ball with seven strikeouts and no runs.
