Highland drew first blood, scoring on an RBI groundout from Jake Ottensmeier (2024) in their half of the second inning. Waterloo responded immedietly with a pair of runs in the top of the third when Bryce Reese (2023) singled to center, scoring Chase Castello (2024) and Evan Davis (2023). Reese would end up driving in Waterloo's other run, fighting off a two strike changeup for a barreled up single to right in the sixth. Trailing for a few frames, Highland rallied with two runs in the fifth, momentarily jumping ahead of Waterloo before the aforementioned Reese single.
