Senior 3B Jake Zitella (Illinois commit) led the way for the Saints of St. Charles East, helping lead them to a 4-2 victory and conference-series win. Zitella, one of the top bats in the senior class, got things going in the top of the first inning with a lead-off solo home run over the left-center field fence. He followed up with a no-doubt two-run home run in his third at-bat which extended the Saints lead to 3-1 in the fifth inning. He finished his big day with a ringing double off the top of the center field wall in his final at-bat. On top of the stellar offensive day, Zitella was busy at the hot corner making a number of impressive plays over the course of the game with no issues. Cotteleer worked primarily with a fastball/breaking ball arsenal throughout. The Saints then turned to Ethan Flint for two innings of solid work and James Brennan came on to pick up the save. Brennan went 1.1 innings, allowing one hit, no runs and striking out two. St. Charles North scored one run in the third and one more in the sixth inning which kept them within striking distance throughout. They also hit a number of balls on the barrel early in the game that were tracked down by the St. Charles East outfielders as well as Zitella at third base. Edge Ritter had one of the hardest hit balls of the day for St. Charles North, a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
