Tunink scored on the next at-bat on a sacrifice fly from Kyle Wolfe (2023), giving the Comets the early 2-0 lead. The Red Devils followed up with a two-run inning of their own with Ashton Pecher (2023) reaching home on wild pitches, and an RBI single from Max Bryant (2024), scoring one, and tying the game 2-2. The Comets added two more runs in the third inning with Tunink and Wolfe both scoring, giving them the 4-2 lead. Hall added to their run total in the fifth inning when Kyler Lapp (2023) scored a run, and they added two more in the bottom half of the sixth on an RBI single from Dom Galetti (2023), and Mac Resetich (2023; Illinois Football), who stole third and scored on an overthrow, giving them the 5-4 lead heading into the top of the seventh.
