31 | No. 25 Mascoutah | 3 | Belleville West | 0 | Final |
32 | By: Diego Solares Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri In their first game after cracking into the 'Power 25', Mascoutah no-hit Belleville West, handing the Maroons their first loss of the season. A large chunk of that came via sheer dominance from Austin Musso (2025), as the Indians' sophomore star fanned eight batters over six no-hit innings - Belleville West's first baserunner reached base in the bottom of the sixth inning. Musso's fastball touched 88 mph twice in the second inning, holding 85-87 mph throughout his outing and challenging hitters with it consistently, especially on the corners. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-hander spun a 70-71 mph curveball with depth for strikes as a get-me-over, and turned to a more firm, laterally spun slider at 74-77 mph for whiffs. David Hedley (2023) punched out a pair in the bottom of the seventh to keep the no-hitter in tact, and lock up the win for Mascoutah. Offensively, Chase Rottmann (2024) led the way with two hits and a pair of RBIs for the Indians. Trevor Geis (2024) added an insurance run late in the game on a fielder's choice to the right side. Notable Performances: Austin Musso (Mascoutah): 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 8 K Chase Rottmann (Mascoutah): 2-for-3, 2 RBI Noah Emge (Belleville West): 6 1/3 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 5 K | ||||
