The Warriors of Lincoln-Way West jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning and never looked back, ultimately winning 10-0 in six innings. The Warriors jumped out with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single by Cole Crafton to deep left-center field. They tacked on two more in the bottom of the second thanks to a two-run home run by sophomore Lucas Acevedo (UIC commit) to deep left-center field. After the second inning, the game never seemed in question as the Downers Grove North offense mustered two hits in total and Lincoln-Way West tacked on five more runs combined in the fifth and sixth inning to run away with the six inning win. Senior RHP Reagan King (Triton JC commit) was in total control throughout, finishing with a six inning, complete game, shutout win. King allowed two hits, two walks and struck out nine in the process. The big-bodied right-handed was in and around the zone all outing long working with a lively fastball that played at 85-87 mph throughout. He was able to land both breaking balls for a strike, keeping hitters off balance all game long as well. Impressive overall outing. The game was notched at four runs apiece heading into the top of the seventh inning. Senior Jake LaVine would go on to break the tie with a single to left field making it 5-4 at the time, plating senior Jayden Malone who singled to lead off the inning. A single from senior Noah Larson would plate another run to bring the score to 6-4, and senior Drew Hopkins would also score thanks to a defensive miscue, bringing the score to 7-4 at the time. Neuqua Valley would threaten in the bottom half of the inning with the bases loaded, plating a run on a wild pitch, but would come up just short. Down 3-2 in the fifth inning, the aforementioned Malone stepped in and delivered a two-run home run to put the Mustangs on top 4-3 at the time. Metea Valley got out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a single from Malone to plate senior Michael Bryant. Neuqua would answer in the bottom half of the inning, as senior Tommy Kuban delivered an RBI single to notch the game at one apiece. Metea would reclaim the lead in the top of the second thanks to an RBI single from Bryant to bring the score to 2-1. Naturally, Neuqua answered again, as Kuban would plate a run with an RBI double to tie the game at two. The Cats would go on to grab a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a defensive miscue. Down 4-3 at the time, the Cats would tie the game once again thanks to an RBI single from senior Mark Mennecke, notching the game at four apiece at the time.
