Innuendos are made in reference to character relationships and references to sexual interactions are made, but not explicitly described. The relationships of the characters are important to how they actualize and define themselves and how they dream of their ideal lives. The references show how invested or uninvested in the relationships characters are and how they use them to further their own social standing or their idea of self. There is brief nudity when Myrtle Wilson dies when struck by Gatsby's car (it is described as seeming to cut her breast off). This is important to the theme of the morality of one’s choices and how it affects the perception of self and those around them. In addition, the movie version (2013) depicts the innuendos, sexual references, use of language, and brief nudity of Myrtle’s death that is also depicted in the novel.
