A deed recorded in Frederick, Maryland, May 17, 1770, and a decision of the Supreme Court in 1829 concerning the title to a Lutheran church property prove the existence of an organized Lutheran congregation in Georgetown as early as 1769. Early in the 18th century, a group of Lutherans from Germany, having settled in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland, migrated to the Potomac Valley. They were attracted by Lord Baltimore’s offer of land. Itinerant pastors ministered to these settlers as early as 1733. A generous pioneer developer donated a plot for the erection of a Lutheran church and a congregation was promptly organized.

Thirty-two years before the city of Washington became the capital of our nation, a Lutheran congregation was organized in Georgetown, north of the Potomac River. A deed recorded in Frederick, Maryland, May 17, 1770, and a decision of the Supreme Court in 1829 concerning the title to a Lutheran church property prove the existence of an organized Lutheran congregation in Georgetown as early as 1769.
Early in the 18th century, a group of Lutherans from Germany, having settled in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland, migrated to the Potomac Valley. They were attracted by Lord Baltimore’s offer of land. Itinerant pastors ministered to these settlers as early as 1733. A generous pioneer developer donated a plot for the erection of a Lutheran church and a congregation was promptly organized.

Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) promotes the equality and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons, their families and friends through support, education and advocacy. PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.

Keeping families together is the mission of PFLAG. Their family values stress education, understanding, acceptance, and support, but most of all love, thereby empowering our children — straight and gay — to lead happy and productive lives. The local PFLAG chapter offers resources, programs and support groups for families with GLBT residents.

Rainbow Families DC (RFDC) is the organization for all LGBT parents/prospective parents and our allies in the DC Metropolitan area. RFDC sponsors social events, hosts educational workshops and conferences, and creates space for families to connect directly with each other.

TFCC works closely with families to help them overcome their obstacles. Our trained peer support workers, our teachers and our staff are all determined to help families, youth and individuals find solutions to the varied problems they are facing. We focus our efforts on strengthening the family structure and creating the unity that helps bring about lasting and personal change for our clients. Every day, we work side-by-side with our families, youths and communities to make sure that we’re doing our best to assist with their needs. We’re here to help our clients grow and thrive, regardless of age, background or income.

THAN THE GANG THAT MANY VIEW THEM AS; BUT THEY
WERE MORE SO A FAMILY AMONGST EACH OTHER. THE
FOUNDERS WHO WERE ALL ONCE VICTIMS, FELT THAT
THEY NEEDED TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR
FAMILY. TURNING THE TABLES FROM BEATING ATTACKERS
INTO SERIOUS INJURIES AND STABBING ENEMIES WITH ICE
PICKS, THEY BEGAN TO NOTICE HOW MUC
H INFLUENCE THEY HAD IN THE CITY.
