I create conversation lab activities for Korean students, which will supplement the student’s learning in class. Each OER document includes ACTFL Can-Do Statements, and the activities will assist the students to accomplish these Can-Do Statements. The labs last about 30 minutes, and they are composed of a warm-up, main activity, and cool-down. The activities are created using the Canva documents, google slides, and copyright free images. The warm-up will allow students to generate thoughts and ideas in Korean, preparing them for the main activity. Sometimes the warm-ups will either include conversation prompts or vocabulary reminders. The main activities are based off from the ACTFL Can-Do statements, including sets of specific Korean skills. These skills will encourage students to further their Korean language learning. Examples of the main activity include a matching game, scenario questions, and learning how to order food using a menu. Each student will have the opportunity to speak and participate in the activity. The activities are designed so that the students are able to utilize Korean when they visit Korea or when they are meeting a Korean. The cool-down activity will wrap up the topic, and the students will have time to reflect their learning experiences, including thinking about what they did well or what they need improvements in. If students have any question pertaining to the topic, they will have the opportunity to do so at this time. These conversation activities are meant to be engaging and interactive, giving students a chance to facilitate conversation in Korean.
