I have created activities at the novice to intermediate level for Mandarin Chinese according to ACTFL standards. In these short form activities, students practice daily skills in the target language while also engaging with culture. For example, I have created an activity where students practice introducing themselves to one another while using name game cards to take on the personas of famous Chinese figures and icons. Through this activity, students are able to practice an essential skill in their target language, while also practicing cultural niceties in the target language while also getting exposure to Chinese culture. This activity can be used beyond the novice level in Mandarin Chinese, allowing students and instructors to add more or less detailed information on the cards to practice introductions as basic as "Hello, what is your name" to as complex as asking someone their birthdate, occupation, hometown and age. The materials were created using free use, copy-right free software and images. This activity is also easily modifiable for other foreign languages, allowing instructors of various languages to adjust the images and details of the materials to make them appropriate for the language level they teach and integrate them seamlessly in their own classrooms.
