6 | US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy wants Congress to introduce warning labels for social media platforms, reminding users about the potential mental health harms associated with them, like anxiety and depression. Murthy outlined the labeles in an essay published by the New York Times, designed to increase awareness and encourage social media users to change their behavior. Murthy issued an advisory in May 2023 that, although the ramifications of social media weren't totally understood, still warned that social media poses a “profound risk of harm to the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents.” Murthy is also calling for legislation to keep young people from experiencing online harassment, abuse, exploitation, and exposure to extreme violence and sexual content in social media algorithms. Murthy recommends better bans on collecting children’s data and restrictions on features like push notifications, autoplay, and infinite scroll, which he says “prey on developing brains and contribute to excessive use.” | https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/17/opinion/social-media-health-warning.html

A miniplayer shows up at the bottom of the page with a progress indicator, play/pause, and close button. | https://9to5google.com/2024/06/16/chrome-listen-tts-android/

9 | YouTube tells TechCrunch it has a new experimental feature for video viewers to add “Notes” to provide more context and information under videos, sort of like how community notes currentlyl work on social network X. YouTube says this can be helpful for clarifying things like when a song is meant to be a parody, or letting viewers know when older footage is being portrayed as a current event. It's limited to mobile in the US in English for now, and users need to have an active YouTube channel in good standing. | https://techcrunch.com/2024/06/17/youtube-is-experimenting-with-notes-a-crowdsourced-feature-that-lets-users-add-context-to-videos/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cudGVjaG1lbWUuY29tLw&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAACg54FUb-0-0x6DvCuizULndpX3SLQ2XIdOt4CE2OT2BGl-fF1Bl2UPSITuLT8TAxnU4Pc4YV6NG8C3c6LoA5viMQouKbVibvNbE8TuzNvK0WZLNRzO4RAaCfsaI8GASX9-WWflnmpDKBs1eztzL9gjUdIzfaQQmY-TyQYKagl1t

Custom avatars are created to resemble a specific creator or a brand spokesperson but also speak multiple languages. 14 | Nikon's new Z6 III camera is the first to have a 24.5-megapixel partially stacked CMOS sensor. For $2,500, the Z6 III’s circuit parts are stacked as bars on the top and bottom of the pixel area, allowing higher continuous shooting rates, faster autofocus, higher video frame rates, and less rolling shutter effect than the previous Z6 II, which has a BSI CMOS sensor in e-shutter mode. The Z6 III won't be as speedy as the more premium Z8 or Z9 with their fully stacked sensors. In other specs, the viewfinder can reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, and the camera can film 6K RAW video at up to 60fps and 4K RAW at up to 120fps. | https://www.theverge.com/2024/6/17/24178637/nikon-z6-iii-stacked-sensor-cmos-price-performance
