| Microsoft is laying off 1900 workers in its Microsoft Gaming division, about 8% of the unit's overall 22,000 employees. While Microsoft is primarily eliminating roles at Activision Blizzard, some Xbox and ZeniMax employees will also be impacted by the cuts. Alongside the layoffs, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra has decided to leave the company. Microsoft plans to name a new Blizzard president next week. | https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/25/24049050/microsoft-activision-blizzard-layoffs
| In a move to help protect teens from potentially unwanted contact, Meta is restricting teens under 16 or 18, depending on the country, from receiving DMs from any account they don’t follow, even, if they are sent from other teens. This is a continuation of a 2021 rule that restricted adults on Instagram from being able to message under-18 users who don't follow them. The new safety feature will be enabled by default and applies to both Instagram and Messenger. | https://www.engadget.com/facebook-and-instagram-will-block-dms-to-teens-unless-theyre-from-a-friend-130552718.html?src=rss
| Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, warned investors that sales growth would slow this year despite price cuts that have already hurt margins and raised investor concerns. Growth will be "notably lower" as Tesla focuses on a cheaper, next-generation electric vehicle to be made at its Texas factory in the second half of 2025, expected to spark the next boom in deliveries. Tesla stock fell 8% in pre-market trade this morning and is down 16.4% this month as of Thursday's market open. | https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-tumbles-after-ceo-elon-musk-warns-slower-growth-2024-2024-01-25/
| Microsoft Mesh, the company’s mixed reality platform that offers 3D meetings inside of Microsoft Teams, is now out of preview and allows Teams users to gather in virtual spaces with or without a VR headset. The spatial audio feature in Mesh mimics the ability to have the type of private conversations you’d have in an office by moving away from other co-workers in a virtual space. Microsoft Mesh is available to Microsoft Teams business plans and does require a Teams premium license. | https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/24/24048895/microsoft-teams-microsoft-mesh-launch-vr-meetings-3d-immersive
| Edge-to-edge cloud computing company Hewlett Packard Enterprise confirmed on Wednesday that the Russia-linked hacking group Midnight Blizzard compromised its cloud-based email system. In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, HPE said it was notified on December 12 that Midnight Blizzard, also known as APT29 or Cozy Bear, had breached its cloud-based email environment and exfiltrated data” from a “small percentage” of HPE mailboxes starting in May 2023. The filing also states the breach is likely related to a SharePoint breach by the same group which also took place in May. | https://techcrunch.com/2024/01/25/hpe-says-it-was-hacked-by-russian-group-behind-microsoft-email-breach/
| Amazon-owned Ring is sunsetting the Request for Assistance feature in its Neighbors app, which let police publicly ask users for footage near an investigation. Police will be forced to obtain a warrant for most of its video requests, however, authorities can still request clips from Ring during what they consider to be emergencies “when there is an imminent danger of death or serious physical injury, such as a kidnapping or an attempted murder.” | https://www.theverge.com/2024/1/24/24049165/ring-police-neighbors-app-clips-search-warrant
| During intra-day trading on Wednesday, Microsoft, briefly, became the second company to reach a $3 Trillion market cap as the stock reached $404 per share before closing at $401.50. The milestone comes nearly two weeks after Microsoft eclipsed Apple
as the world’s most valuable public company on Jan. 12. Apple, however, has reclaimed the No. 1 spot, as its market cap closed at around $3.01 trillion on Wednesday. | https://9to5google.com/2024/01/22/pixel-storage-issue-january-2024-update/
| Multiple Pixel users are reporting issues of not being able to access data stored in internal storage across all apps after installing the January 2024 Google Play update. This results in various cascading issues, like not being able to play downloaded audio/video files or take new pictures, while the Files app appears empty and other apps refuse to work. Google is aware of the problem which affects Google Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series devices. Most Pixel users are still on the November 2023 release of Google Play and, hopefully, Google can halt the 2024 release while it investigates the issue. | https://www.cnbc.com/2024/01/24/microsoft-3-trillion-market-cap.html
