6 | The European Union and Apple have reached a “legally binding” agreement that will see Apple make NFC, or, Tap and Go technology, as well as access to iOS features like Face ID authentication and double-click to launch, available on the iPhone. The deal will prevent Apple from facing an antitrust fine equal to up to 10% of the company’s worldwide turnover - about $40 billion. Apple has also agreed to let users set third-party mobile wallets as their default. EU competition policy chief Margrethe Vestegar said of the deal, "It opens up competition in this crucial sector, by preventing Apple from excluding other mobile wallets from the iPhone's ecosystem.” Apple has until July 25th, to implement the changes. | https://www.engadget.com/apple-will-allow-developers-access-to-its-nfc-technology-avoiding-an-eu-fine-123026127.html?src=rss | ||||

The tool, part of the Data Transfer Initiative, or DTI, will roll out over the next few weeks. The DTI is a 2023 collaboration between Apple, Google, and Meta formed to align with the EU’s regulations on moving data between “gatekeepers” as defined by the Digital Markets Act.
