Facebook says the API did not allow data to be stored on device-maker servers and restricted what else could be done with it. The New York Times reported Sunday that Apple, Amazon, BlackBerry, Microsoft and Samsung all used the API as well. Facebook said the API was needed before apps were widespread to allow Facebook functions in device operating systems and its use has dwindled. It promised to wind-down Huawei's use of the API by the end of the week. 60 companies worldwide took advantage of the API and Facebook says more than half of them have stopped.||http://fortune.com/2018/06/06/facebook-data-phone-china-huawei-congress/|
|:35||M||Cisco's Talos security team discovered that the VPNFilter malware uses an ssler module to inject malicious payloads intro traffic coming through an infected router. The malware can capture passwords and send them to botnet servers. It can strip away secure connections and even modify page content. One example was to modify a bank's page to display a normal balance in order to hide that the botnet was removing funds from an account. Also, a packetsniffer module specifically looks for industrial control systems at a specific IP address. VPNFilter targets routers made by ASUS, D-Link, Huawei, Ubiquiti, UPVEL, ZTE, Linksys, MikroTik, Netgear, and TP-Link. Around 200,000 routers worldwide are estimated to be at risk, most in the Ukraine. Fixes vary by router. Some can be wiped clean with a factory reset while others need to install new firmware.||https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/06/vpnfilter-malware-infecting-50000-devices-is-worse-than-we-thought/|

|Sonos’ newest smart speaker is the Beam, a $399 mini soundbar||https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/06/sonos-newest-smart-speaker-is-the-beam-a-399-mini-soundbar/|
|Sonos Beam soundbar, $399 preorder today, ships July 17.|
- Different than Playbase and Playbar because smaller (25-inches across), cheaper and voice-activated.
It's a soundbar, not just a speaker. So meant to provide virtual surround from in front of a TV.
four “full-range” woofers, one angled on each end and two front-facing. There’s a single tweeter in the middle and three passive radiators.
And You can add a pair of Sonos Ones and a Sonos Sub to build out a 5.1 surround system.
|A BIT ABOUT HDMI|
Uses HDMI for the audio, based on the 10-year-old ARC (Audio Return Channel) spec
- ARC supposedly recognises a speaker and sends sound to it
- IF your TV supports it AND it's turned on in the menu system
- Sonos told the Verge that 80% of new TVs automatically work with ARC, more with setting tweak and most older TVs support it too.
- Sonos gives you a cable since not all HDMI cables will work with ARC. AND an optical audio to HDMI converter
- With HDMI though you can use "Consumer Electronics Control" to have the voice-activartion turn the TV on and off.
ONLY ONE PORT THOUGH. Does not want to be your HDMI switcher. Doesn't want to be that failure point.Wanst to last longer.
Voice control can tell what's playing on Airplay 2
You can control music from Sonos app even if you didn't start it
If you start music on phone and leave the house it can still play for others.
"Continuity of control"of the
At $399--same price as the Google Home Max -- $50 more than Apple’s HomePod. "But because it also works as a soundbar, it offers more utility than either of them. And because Sonos is trying to mediate between all these different ecosystems, it works (often better) with more services than either of them." - Dieter Bohn

Release dates, announcement dates, and pretty-much-confirmed-features... Yes, hearing about those can be beneficial. There have unfortunately been times when I have bought a phone only to find out about the "next version" being announced a day or two later.
notch or no notch, how tall the notch is, camera megapixels.... colors....If it was an Android specific show or an Apple specific show, that would be more appropriate. But, "sources seem to all be pointing to a new iPhone being announced on July 5th?" Yeah, please share that. :)
