15		SL	Fossil subsidiary Skagen announced the Falster 2 smartwatch with health-tracking features and a swim-proof case attached to a magnetic steel mesh strap. It contains a heart rate monitor, support for Google Fit, GPS and Google Pay, a built-in NFC chip, and two programmable side buttons. 16		SCOTT	Nintendo announced its Dragalia Lost RPG will come out September 27 in Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, the US and Taiwan. It's Nintendo's first mobile game based on new characters. It looks very Final Fantasy-like, with realtime combat, and the trailer is up for all to see! 17		TM	Acer announced a new Swift 7 laptop with a 92 percent screen to body ratio, 10 mm thick and weighing less than 2.2 pounds that Acer calls the world's thinnest laptop. Acer also announced a mixed reality headset, the OJO 500. It has modular parts so the lens and head strap can be removed and cleaned. Great for museums or other attraction use. It has a 100-degree field of view and a sound pipe for hearing audio without headphones though you can opt for a strap with built-in headphones. The OJO 500 will be available inthe US and Europe in November starting at $399. 20		SL	Air Canada warned that around 20,000 users of its app may have had passport information stolen if it had been entered. Credit card information was encrypted. 22	:33	SCOTT	Dell announced the Inspiron Chromebook 14 two-in-one. It has an all-metal body, 14-inch touchscreen, weighs less than four pounds, and comes with an active pen. It runs on a Core i3 processor, UHD 620 graphics, 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage coming October 23 for $599. You can also opt for 128GB of storage. Dell also updated its Inspiron 7000 and 5000 line of convertible laptops with fingerprint readers and Amazon Voice support shipping October 2. All the new laptops including the Chromebook have a new thermal management system with vents behind the hinges. 24	:36	SL	Sonos released the $599 Sonos Amp, an upgrade to its Connect Amp. The Sonos Amp connects up to four speakers to the Sonos platform, including existing Sonos speakers. It also has line-in for CD players, turntables or other audio devices. Multiple Amps can all talk to each other too. Notable features include improved power output:, an HDMI ARC port, and a subwoofer port. 26	:39	TM	Dfinity wants to create decentralized computing resources, or Cloud 3.0, using blockchain tech to compete with companies like AWS and Salesforce. Dfinity raised $102 million in part from Andreesen Horowitz on Wednesday. 27	:42	SCOTT	Facebook Watch launched in the US a year ago and now is launching to more countries. Facebook is also introducing ad breaks to more publishers that can be pre-roll, mid-roll or images below the video. Facebook also launched Creator studio for users to manage their content across Facebook and Instagram. 28	:45	SL	Google announced the redesigned Wear OS 1.6 which highlights notifications and Google Fit information. Notifications live in a single panel users can scroll through and swipe horizontally to dismiss. Google Assistant is now a left-swipe from the watch face and Fit to the right. Google stream's proactive info is now to the left of the home screen. 34	:48		Casio announced the Pro Trek WSD-F30 WearOS SmartWatch which is MIL-STD-810-certified and water-resistant up to 50 meters. There’s a new 1.2-inch, 390 x 390 pixel color OLED display and a second monochrome display mode that shows atmospheric, altitude, and compass bearing. It also has a more flexible band than the previous model. It also comes with Bluetooth 4.1 LE, Wi-Fi, wireless charging, GPS, a barometer, an accelerometer, a gyrometer, a compass, and a sensor. 35			No we didn't forget the top stories is over. Diesl also has new watch out with a neon face. This is all pointing to the fact that smartwatch announcements are coming fast and furious out of IFA. And back in March we reported that IDC estimated worldwide shipments of smartwatches and activity trackers grew 7.7 percent in Q4 2017 and 10 percent in 2017. Shipments hit 115.4 million units overall. So. Smartwatches are for real, right?

46		sl	IRich in Chapel Hill loved our music themed roundtable show on Monday and noticed a change in his own habits when he bought a new car this year: Up until now, I usually either listened to the radio, or a CD, and sometimes I would plug my phone through the Nostaligia port into my Ultra Nostalgia port (my cassette player, which I had to use to listen to my phone.) But then last year, when I got a new phone, it didn't have the headphone jack, and the dongle kind of worked, but not very well, with my janky setup. Sometimes I had to reboot, and it was just a pain. So I would listen to the radio a lot. So I still was in a 2002 media world. (Thanks, Google.) So when you were talking about CDs, I had that, "Huh, the Death Star plans are in R2D2," moment some of us have had, and realized that, "You know, my car doesn't have a CD player." Android Auto's integration is so easy that it dominates my listening choices when I drive now. I plug in my phone and it picks up where I left off. It's not perfect-- sometimes it crashes, sometimes it doesn't recognize the phone-- but about 95% of the time (a number I have created out of whole cloth), it just works, and that's all I need. (I guess thanks, Google?) I feel a little bad about not listening to as much radio as I used to, but if I switch over to radio, it becomes a bit of a hassle on the phone, so I find myself not doing it unless I absolutely have to. On the other hand, I've discovered some really fun podcasts to fill the void. And CDs? Now I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of mine, because there's nowhere to put them.
