So NOW the US Congress is turning to other Chinese companies. The US Senate Intelligence Committee's Mark Warner asked Alphabet about its partnership with HUawei and Xiaomi particularly regarding how user data is handled. He sent a similar letter to Twitter. Norman was trained to write image captions by feeding him captions from an infamous subreddit filled with graphic content about death. The researchers then compared Norman's responses to Rorschach inkblots to that of a standard image captioning neural network. Perhaps unsurprisingly Norman's captions are all about death. The point of the experiment is to show how AI can be biased by the training data.||https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/7/17437454/mit-ai-psychopathic-reddit-data-algorithmic-bias|

After seven minutes, the cylinder rotates to filter the leavings into a receptacle that can be removed and dumped out. LEDs in the ears and paws that light up in green and blue as it rotates. The company is looking for vendor partners.||https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/07/spinning-flashing-litter-box-computex-2018/|

|:45||Valve announced in a blog post a new policy that will let virtually anything appear on the Steam storefront, as long as it’s not “illegal or straight up trolling.” This is a response to questions over adult visual novels being threatened with removal from Steam. Valve agreed that it shouldn’t be the gatekeeper for games unless they break the law or are sold with the intent to troll. Instead, Valve said it plans to release new tools to help users filter out games they don’t want to see in their marketplace.||https://www.polygon.com/2018/6/6/17435260/steam-visual-novels-adult-violent-games|

|Valve executive Erik Johnson|
May 18. Valve began to notify several makers of "Adult visual novels" - basically porn puzzle games- that the extreme nudity in some of the games violated rules and guidelines for pornographic content on Steam. May 19 Valve apologised for the confusion.
At the end of May Valve removed a developer and publisher that was going to put out a game that simulated a school shooting. Valve said the creator is "a troll, with a history of customer abuse, publishing copyrighted material, and user review manipulation. His subsequent return under new business names was a fact that came to light as we investigated the controversy around his upcoming title. We are not going to do business with people who act like this towards our customers or Valve."
And so the discussion continued until June 6.
|"there is absolutely no way we can navigate it without making some of our players really mad." ANd that included Valve employees as well. |
"If you're a player, we shouldn't be choosing for you what content you can or can't buy. If you're a developer, we shouldn't be choosing what content you're allowed to create."
"We’ve decided that the right approach is to allow everything onto the Steam Store, except for things that we decide are illegal, or straight up trolling"
"We are going to enable you to override our recommendation algorithms and hide games containing the topics you're not interested in. "
Mentioned filters by genre and kids controls
ALSO " push developers to further disclose any potentially problematic content in their games during the submission process, and cease doing business with any of them that refuse to do so honestly. "
" It means that the Steam Store is going to contain something that you hate, and don't think should exist. Unless you don't have any opinions, that's guaranteed to happen. But you're also going to see something on the Store that you believe should be there, and some other people will hate it and want it not to exist."
"It also means that the games we allow onto the Store will not be a reflection of Valve’s values"

I haven't signed up for the Cargo program myself, but I've talked to other drivers who have. The experience for them has been somewhat negative. Passengers expect to get amenities like gum, candy, Tylenol, and the like for free, and a few became downright offended at the mere concept of being charged for any of those items. One driver opted out of the program after his ratings took a hit. Another cancelled because they got tired of cleaning out all the trash (gum wrappers and even discarded gum, for example) left behind in the back seat. As a disclaimer, these experiences are specific to the Los Angeles area, where drivers have to deal with a sense of passenger entitlement that's not present in many other markets. I imagine that a TNC driver in the Midwest could do very well with this program.
Secondly, in regards to the post-show talk about keyboards, sad to say that virtual keyboards are indeed the way of the future. I'm willing to bet that the average teenager with an iPhone could put even Sarah's lauded typing skills to shame. Our future adults are being raised on texting apps, and traditional home-row typing skills may end up being another niche ability like long division or cursive handwriting.
