21 | :42 | pb | Mark Rober caught thieves stealing packages from his doorstep on a security camera but the police said they were unable to investigate the case. So the former NASA engineer put four smartphones, a circuit board and a pound of glitter in an Apple Homepod box. The device was built to release the glitter and spray fart smell when the thief opened the box and the smartphones would record the moment and upload it. An accelerometer checked GPS when there was any motion and activated the phones if it was off the porch. It was stolen several times and abandoned after each time a thief opened it. Police in New Jersey are working with Amazon to plant dummy boxes with GPS and cameras to catch thieves. They do not include glitter. | https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-46604625

29 | The Atlantic's Taylor Lorenz has a story about people pretending to make sponsored posts on places like Instagram and YouTube. - The idea seems to be to look like you're the kind of influencer who can promote things so that people will actually pay you to promote things. - It's also about street cred. - There are rules about disclosing paid advertisements but no rules about pretending to be paid when you're not. - Brands like the free promotion but it can be bad if the fake messages are mediocre or not good. - It also seems to be driving down the amount of money paid to influencers.

36 | I want to share with the DTNS super community my plan to deal with spam/scam callers. If all of us do this maybe they will stop their calls. Next time you get a spam call answer then preach to them to "repent from their sinful scam calling ways." Keep preaching until they hang up. If we all keep doing this we will waste their time and make their evil business less profitable Join me! -Desmond from Richmond VA Been listening to Tom since 2005
