|The book Histoires d'Avenirs is the result of the collaboration of two French teachers and the association of their respective skills in literature and language pedagogy, with the same objective: the deep exploration and development of the French language .|
The innovative element of this manual is its holistic approach (stylistic, linguistic, and intercultural) whose main idea is that everything is necessary for the acquisition of language: style, grammar, culture, pragmatics, sociology, etc., nothing is studied in isolation. The language is observed, analyzed, debated and used in context. Learners develop reading and comprehension strategies in order to become independent readers. The goal is twofold: to discover French science fiction and develop critical thinking on various universal themes using French as a communication tool.
Histoires d'Avenirs is aimed at intermediate and advanced students of French who want to improve the use of the French language but it is also aimed at a native audience wanting to deepen their knowledge of science fiction and develop critical thinking. .
The educational objectives are, on the one hand, to propose an interdisciplinary approach, on the other hand, to enable learners to develop their language and intercultural skills and thereby rethink, compare, and challenge their perspectives on different socio-cultural aspects.
Because of the variety of themes, activities, and media, the textbook can be adopted alone or in addition to a language, writing, literature, or even conversation course. This handbook is an Open Source project and so teachers, depending on their interests and the needs of their students, will choose to cover, omit, or modify certain activities, and may of course pursue certain themes in more detail. This manual has been conceived to help students develop learning strategies that promote autonomy and collaborative work while arousing intellectual curiosity.
