1 | Procedure of filing a new patent application in NIT, Kurukshetra | |||||||

2 | Step 1: Faculty/staff who wish to file patent application should perform prior art search at https://ppubs.uspto.gov/pubwebapp/static/pages/landing.html and at some patent sites of different countries given on the above page link. Besides, above site, they can also search on https://patents.google.com/, IEEE, sciencedirect etc. to make sure that such an idea has not been published as a patent or as research paper or it is in any public domain. Cite the prior art in your document and make a table of comparison with prior art search, showing how your idea is better than prior art for each case. You can modify your invention document making it better than prior art. Once submitted, the patent office does not allow any change in document description except claims (claims have to be based on description in specifications). All figure elements should be numbered and cited in description text. After modifications you can try to make the complete document such that maximum number of pages do not exceed 30 and maximum claims are not more than 10. | |||||||
3 | Step 2: You need to submit (to ipr@nitkkr.ac.in duly recommended by your HOD) an email certifying that such an invention idea has not been submitted anywhere in the world for patent nor does it exist in any research papers nor is on any public domain. Such an email should come from your nitkkr email ID with title of invention only. Students can submit through their supervisors. | |||||||
4 | Step3: Once IPR cell receive your request through HOD, IPR cell will email you requesting to submit the complete document directly to ipr@nitkkr.ac.in in MS word format. | |||||||
5 | Step 4: On receiving your document, it will be checked for proper format and if ok, then it will be forwarded to patent attorney for making draft application | |||||||
6 | Step 5. Patent attorney will make a draft application and will get your endorsement before submission to the patent office. | |||||||
