1 | CHAPTER 1 | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
2 | Very first thing, when Elias's cutscene finishes and he starts to walk to the bookshelf, hold down the II button (options) and buffer a menu open. You'll know you got it if the music doesn't start up right away | |||
3 | Set options, try to exit town, then immediately reenter | hit left once on all options but narration (ignore for VA on category), and left twice on message speed, this sets everything right | ||
4 | Enter AUTO combat, fight all 5 Kowls in cave, including 1 backtrack | If you didn't delay any of your movement after the first VA (for walk down to guards and back into town from outside), I find Logan consistently gets a 7 point level up when using auto combat on the first fight. You do not need to menu frame-perfectly in the combat or elsewhere, just get the movement | ||
5 | See leveling tab for Logan's stat growth | |||
6 | Do cutscenes, exit | |||
7 | Strip Ethan and put his gear onto Logan | Ethan doesn't need XP so we want him taking damage; unfortunately game revives him with 1 HP so there's some RNG with it | ||
8 | Walk to Nigel, taking any fights along the way that are winnable; try to kill off Ethan | Wildcat+blue jel groups are doable but a little iffy before shopping, I'd generally run unless at high HP | ||
9 | Unequip all of Logan's gear except Buckler, and unequip Ethan's sword; sell all that plus the random Detoxins and such | Hang onto herbs and torches | ||
10 | Buy Wolf Sword and Armor, Equip Logan | He should still have Buckler | ||
11 | Grind to 8 in the middle section of the map | Use auto combat throughout, but turn it off sometime before commander; Wildcat/Blue jel fights at lower levels can be annoying due to dumb AI, so if you prefer not to use it, that's fine. It probably saves a few frames per fight at best, but heck we've got a lot of them in a row here | ||
12 | Go to Revere, do the first cutscene, pick up Markus, exit town, do second cutscene | |||
13 | Go to Pits, fight Commander. Heal Logan with herbs when he's below 70ish. Basic rule of thumb is to expect him to get 2 turns to your 1, and protect against that with your healing strat. He will very rarely get 3 turns, or even crit, you can heal a little more conservatively depending on how many herbs dropped in the grind | This fight is more dangerous with the buckler, be cautious with health; if Ethan or Markus get a spellcasting turn at the start use VENOM1 or FLAME3, respectively | ||
14 | Equip the Wolf Sword you just got on Ethan | |||
15 | Walk to Revere and talk to father, then rush Sylvan; kill the 4 Sentries, plus the one on far right of the line, fight commander and be done with it | You can use autocombat here but I don't think it's worth the trouble, the difference is negligible for a small number of fights and it does cost time to menu to turn it on/off | ||
16 | For levels, see tab | |||
17 | CHAPTER 2 | |||
18 | Talk to Sylvia for DOOM'S TEAR | |||
19 | Raid treasury below: grab chests 1 2 3 in first row, and 1 3 4 in bottom | Alternatively, don’t pick up chest 4 in bottom row, and come back here at the beginning of Ch 5 for Hyper 2000 (use on Logan). Currently not routing this in, Naja would be a little safer this way but it's also slower | ||
20 | Equip Logan with new gear, unequip weapons from all others | |||
21 | Walk to NIGEL, sell all surplus gear at item shop, talk to ship captain, stay at inn, take ship | Don't sell the Mage Fruit yet, hang onto it unless you desperately need the cash; it's potentially a safety for Tombs if Ethan runs out of MP | ||
22 | Buy 3 LION LANCE, equip all but Logan; buy WARP QUILL and 3 TORCH | I'm splitting up some utility item shopping to save item slots for the armor puzzle in Rokberg; same for Tele-Lenses later | ||
23 | Go to cave, fight 2 imp groups and Gar master, pick up 3 treasure chests | Torch use. | ||
24 | Warp quill back to town | |||
25 | Equip chain mail/lion shield on Ethan, unequip all weapons, sell remaining gear, then see cutscene and exit | |||
26 | Tele-lens here. Walk south and across bridge to GREYOAKS, get Cure2, Warp1, Power2 on Ethan, Warp1 on Markus | |||
27 | Go to FORT MUIR, enter/exit, then walk to GRIMWULF | |||
28 | Buy 3 IRON LANCE and equip all characters | |||
29 | Warp1 back and kill the imps, SPEAK TO DANIEL | |||
30 | Leave, walk to GRIMWULF, speak to MAYOR and PROPHET | |||
31 | Warp1 to MUIR and cross bridge then walk out to get the cutscene | |||
32 | Walk back to Grimwulf, fight SENTINEL, lose to Drax | |||
33 | Get CLAY from shopkeeper, walk to top of tower and make mold | |||
34 | Warp1 back to Muir, turn in mold, UNEQUIP MARKUS, and sleep | If you forget this unequip, pick up Iron Lance at the start of Cave Krys | ||
35 | Walk back to top of tower and get CALM for all characters | |||
36 | Warp1 to Muir, walk back to Grimwulf, fight Sentinel and Calm Drax, push shelves for stairs | |||
37 | Sell GLAIVE and buy 4 TELE-LENS; exit town and use one, walk to CAVE KRYS | |||
38 | Rush to NW corner to hopefully avoid enemy spawns, go to stairs in middle top and then on next floor far W for VIPER RING | Torch | ||
39 | Warp1 to GRIMWULF, equip Viper ring on Logan, walk to ROKBERG | Take a rest at mayor if low on MP from cave; alternative is to equip Viper on Giles who gets more attacks (but fewer crits), up to you. If you do, be sure to switch it over to Logan before the boss fight (after doorway is a good time). I think Logan is faster though | ||
40 | Speak to Matthew, warp1 back to Grimwulf and speak to mayor | |||
41 | Walk back to Rokberg, ENTER/EXIT to set warp point, speak to Matthew again; make way past Granits to north gate | |||
42 | Second screen: clear gate, juke stuff and go to northeast door near stairs, beat the Granit and then unequip all weapons/armor, walk through (rings don't count) | |||
43 | Juke Granits in hallway near stairs, fight the other 2, heal up and approach Strom; use herbs to keep bottom line alive while Logan kills Strom. Use Power 2 then Calm him to prevent healing. | if you have an Evil Eye from Cave Krys drops, use it here | ||
44 | CHAPTER 3 | |||
45 | WARP1 to main part of ROKBERG, sell FLAME STAFF, buy 6 WARP WINGs, stop at wizard and get VENOM2 on everyone, then take ship | |||
46 | Turbo through all the dialogues, exit to ship | |||
47 | Walk to VONHEIM and speak to Magnus, then walk to HEARTWOOD and wing back to RED PIER | |||
48 | Walk to SKYHAVEN, LEVY (enter exit each), then PORT NORS | |||
49 | Wing to SKYHAVEN, see dialogue, wing to LEVY, talk to Prince, wing back to SKYHAVEN, then back to PORT NORS | |||
50 | In PORT NORS, get WARP2 on Ethan/Sonia, CURE3 on Ethan/Giles, VENOM3 on Ethan/Sonia, SLEEP2 on everyone | Don't overwrite Warp1 or Venom2 on Ethan, you want both tiers of both spells; see spells tab | ||
51 | Walk up, buy 2 REPEL ROBE from the shop. Speak to Carlos the fisherman, then exit town on foot | We won't be equipping them for a while. | ||
52 | Warp2 to VONHEIM and speak to advisor | |||
53 | Warp2 to SKULLROCK, speak to MORGAN | |||
54 | Warp2 to RED PIER, speak to fisherman | |||
55 | Warp2 to PORT NORS, stay at inn, speak to fisherman | |||
56 | Warp2 to SKULLROCK, speak to MORGAN, then exit stairs, reenter and speak to guy in bed | Exiting very important, sets event trigger | ||
57 | Warp2 to HEARTWOOD and speak to Helga | |||
58 | Warp2 to SKULLROCK and speak to Helga again | |||
59 | Warp2 to PORT NORS and speak to Carlos again | |||
60 | Warp2 to SKYHAVEN, get a heal from Samantha, exit and walk to TOMBS | Torch; the route budgets two for this dungeon so use a second one to max your radius on vertical hallway | ||
61 | In Tombs, grab the two armor item chests on floor 1, put them on Ethan; grab Guard Ring and also put it on Ethan, then make way directly to DOOM'S EYE | Use Venom on Grymgoons as needed; Ethan should mostly use Venom2, not 3, unless he's gained a couple levels or his MP is in good shape. With the armor Ethan should take only 1 hp and should solo these fights okay AND he's low enough level to get a full refill after each fight; use Mage fruit to refill MP if needed here | ||
62 | After the vertical hallway, in the next room near the stairs, wait for about 5 seconds before entering; this should cause the next room (water room with vertical stairs) to not have too many spawns | Seems reliable; probably it's filling up spawn slots in memory on the old map so they don't spawn on the new one when it's called | ||
63 | Warp1 to PORT NORS, walk to DARKHEIM | Quill is backup item if needed for this warp, because you can be low on MP coming out | ||
64 | Fight GIRIUS using Venom and Calm | This is mainly why we got Venom3 for Ethan; use it here instead of 2 | ||
65 | CHAPTER 4 | |||
66 | Warp2 to DARKHEIM entrance, go to shop and buy 5 NITRO | Extras are for the Naja fight, and maybe GAIUS | ||
67 | Warp2 to SKULLROCK and trade 2 nitro for 2 blast darts | |||
68 | Warp2 to HEARTWOOD and walk to borderpit | |||
69 | BORDERPIT: use TORCH, grab MOON SPEAR and SHIELD | Torch seems faster here than bumping around, but it could be skipped with good knowledge of the layout | ||
70 | Walk to HAVLOK, enter/exit, use inn | |||
71 | Speak to CLAIR | SHOCK4 is nearby as a safety if desired. There are some monsters in final dungeon that can only be hurt by spells; ideally don't fight them but this can be a safety in case of bad enemy movement. Personally I don't think it's worth it | ||
72 | Warp1 to HAVLOK entrance, walk to CARDIS, speak to JESSIE, CAMPBELL, and DOG | |||
73 | Exit and reenter, speak to JESSIE and DOG | before leaving make sure you've talked to the dog and Jessie when dog is in both its locations, this is a necessary trigger | ||
74 | Exit, walk to OASIS, buy 2 POTIONS, 2 TELE-LENS, 6 RABBIT FOOT | can also stop to sell some crap like staves, etc., not strictly necessary but helps with PORT MOR shopping, where inv is often full during unequip phase | ||
75 | Walk to PORT SORD, speak to ISAAC | |||
76 | Warp2 to CARDIS, speak to CAMPBELL | |||
77 | Warp2 to PORT SORD, speak to ISAAC | |||
78 | Warp2 to CARDIS, speak to CAMPBELL, do DOG quest, get chest | |||
79 | Warp2 to PORT SORD, speak to ISAAC | |||
80 | Warp2 to HAVLOK, rest, go to TOWER | |||
81 | Fight SANDRA, do cutscenes | don't heal in Havlok; this makes it a little more likely Ethan will cast Calm instead of something else, speeding up the fight | ||
82 | Warp2 to OASIS, walk to HOLLOW | |||
83 | Fight Drax: Rabbit foot, heal with potion if needed, focus Drax | for extra safety you can bring an Evil Eye and kill Drax's luck, which eliminates his crits; use Rabbit first though | ||
84 | Fight DAMIUS; use Rabbit's foot on Logan as first action. Do Venom/Calm approach with the rest of the party and have Logan attack, also Calm if a good opportunity presents itself while he's at low HP (half or so) | It's possible that sleep stacking before venom is a more consistent strat, but I feel like its slower on average. One option is to route in 4 repel robes earlier, and equip two on Sonia/Ethan here, they can then combo him with sleep/venom at no risk of dying. However this is quite a bit slower than the normal fight. | ||
85 | CHAPTER 5 | |||
86 | Warp2 to OASIS, speak to guy on left | |||
87 | Warp2 to PORT SORD, take ship | |||
88 | Unequip Logan fully and Ethan's/Giles's weapons, switch best armor over to Giles, sell surplus gear in PORT MOR | Sell or drop any spare herbs, potions, mage fruit, etc. as well | ||
89 | Walk to CAPE VIA, get spells | LEECH4, POWER4 on both Ethan and Sonia. For Ethan, overwrite his cure spell and venom2 | ||
90 | Walk to ACADIA, enter/exit for warp point | |||
91 | Walk to GHILAN, do cutscene, immediately give up on cave | |||
92 | Walk to KARKUS, speak to LAZYBONES | |||
93 | Warp2 to PORT MOR and exit town | sets warp point | ||
94 | Warp2 to GHILAN, speak to bottom THIEF, get SLEEP MIST x12 from FRASER | |||
95 | Warp2 to WOLFJAW, get all the stuff, equip Gem gear on Logan, Warp1 to PORT MOR | Torch use. If you sold all your junk in the first trip to Port Mor the inventory space should work out perfectly; equip Logan after picking up the Gem Blade/Rod chests and before upstairs. | ||
96 | Sell Gem Rod and Gold Sword, Warp2 to KARKUS | if Ethan hasn't leveled enough you might run out of MP here, there is an inn on the right, and you can then skip resting in Karkus (though still talk to Lazybones) | ||
97 | Give mist, heal, speak to KORATOV, exit town | Exiting town here is required to set the next plot trigger, this is an easy one to miss so be careful of it | ||
98 | Warp2 to GHILAN, buy 2 Gem Blades go talk to BIG GILES | |||
99 | Warp2 to KARKUS, fight the specter, talk to ADVISOR | I like to just cast SLEEP2 with Giles/Ethan (and Logan while he has MP) instead of overusing the mists; Sonia should attack even if it isn't asleep (coma rod can still hit). Logan (low MP) can use mists, but try to mostly conserve them for the escort quest. Once it's asleep, sleep it again to lock it down, then kill it with Sonia, Venom, or just HP damage depending on your party situation. | ||
100 | Heal, exit, walk to TOWER, fight | |||
101 | Heal if needed, Warp2 to ACADIA, speak to COLIN | |||
102 | Do the horrible fights using sleep mist, or sleep spell if you run out; sleep status makes Sonia's rod hit 100%, or alternatively Venom also 100% | |||
103 | Walk to the healing spot (you're in Karkus, go SW), equip REPEL ROBEs on Logan and Giles, then warp2 to TOWER | Technically it's optimal to equip after the specter fight but I tend to forget | ||
104 | Do the tower; use card slot, take bottom stairs, drop to MICA, fight specter, use Silver Horn at top level | No harm in using any leftover sleep mists at this point. They have a higher success rate | ||
105 | GAIUS: Very technical fight. Giles should defend immediately to activate his Repel. Logan should not. He should use a rabbit's foot on Giles first turn, and wait for either Sonia or Ethan to power him at least once. The more Powers the better, but activate Logan's repel too after you've got at least one and preferably two. Try to get EXACTLY one Leech in as well, and be sure to rabbit foot Logan too. The idea is that Giles does a little less than half the boss's health, while Logan does more (power + viper ring). Giles hits first, boss doesn't heal, Logan finishes. That's the hope. You should ideally end the fight with ONLY Logan and Giles alive, this will give tons of levels and mean you don't really need to grind in the final dungeon. It's worth defending for a turn or two to set up Ethan/Sonia dying if they're close to it, but play it by ear. It's okay to leave with only one of them dead if he's not cooperating. | Don't use CALM. If Logan or Giles dies, use a Nitro. They should still have DETOX spell from the beginning of the game if one of them eats a poison. Others don't bother reviving, unless you haven't gotten off any buffs/debuffs yet then it may be worth it. | ||
106 | FINALE | |||
107 | Warp2 to PORT MOR | |||
108 | Unequip Logan and Giles's first three slots and Ethan's top two. Sell everything plus gold card | Should have about 830k. | ||
109 | Take ship, buy 2 battle suits and jade shield, 2 torches, and a warp wing if Sonia's max MP is not above 625 (it won't be if she was dead at Gaius) | buying 3 torches is an option, costs virtually no time and gives a spare for beastmaze, you can also buy a spare wing if you're not confident in remembering which warps should be WARP1 vs 2, MP is tight in this next segment | ||
110 | Walk to DOOMKEEP | |||
111 | Speak to the two leaders, father, and Dale | |||
112 | Warp1 to FORT WYND and see scene | |||
113 | Warp2 to DOOMKEEP and speak to DALE | |||
114 | Walk to JAGRI PIT | |||
115 | Get the 3 chests, speak to lackey, WARP1 back | Torch (maybe not needed) | ||
116 | Get map, speak to BENJAMIN, WARP2 to JAGRI PIT, see cutscene and pick up the LOST TOME | |||
117 | Warp2 to ACADIA and speak to COLIN | |||
118 | Warp1 to DOOMKEEP and speak to father, Benjamin, father | |||
119 | Warp2 to CARDIS and get DRAGONFLUTE | |||
120 | Warp2 to NIGEL, rest, equip gear, go to final dungeon via dragon | Use wing if needed due to MP | ||
121 | Lost isle: take top stairs at main branch | Ideally, avoid most fights, only killing if needed for pathing. If under 1200 or so HP on L&G, fight only Raider/Maw, Sultan/Swampsnake groups as needed. Mostly however the Gaius XP should get you the levels you need here, so err on the side of avoiding fights | ||
122 | Beastmaze: see a VOD for the walking route; basically, go left and around bottom at start, and it's fairly linear for a bit, then down right and around, etc. | Torch | ||
123 | Beastmaze 2: at room you enter from bottom, take right branch, up around to right; upper part of water room | |||
124 | Labyrinth: left and all the way around to stairs, then nearby stairs; then mostly linear, take top stairs at eventual branch | In the event of getting stuck in an unescapable encounter situation, use WARP1 to return to NIGEL, heal, and then WARP2 back to the entrance to Labyrinth. You can buffer the menu button coming out of a fight | ||
125 | Abode: in room with chasm, take the door on far right | |||
126 | Naja: rabbits foots on Logan/Giles, leech/power a time or two, calm and pray | This is why we bought extra NITRO for revivals |
1 | Logan's level route, assuming the manip for 7 points at 2 | |
---|---|---|
2 | (without it, just stay 2 STR behind the whole way; this isn't a dealbreaker) | |
3 | 2: 12/2/2/2 | |
4 | 3: 17/2/2/2 | |
5 | 4: 17/2/2/7 | 7 luck means Wildcats will rarely crit you, which is helpful for the grind, especially the early part |
6 | 5: 22/2/2/7 | |
7 | 6: 22/2/4/10 | |
8 | 7: 22/2/5/14 | |
9 | 8: 22/2/6/18 | |
10 | 9: 27/2/6/18 | |
11 | 10: 27/2/11/18 | |
12 | 11: 32/2/11/18 | |
13 | 12: 32/2/14/20 | |
14 | 13: 32/2/17/22 | |
15 | 14: 32/2/22/22 | |
16 | 15: 32/2/25/24 | |
17 | 16: 32/2/28/26 | if Drax is fought at 15 you can go ahead and switch over to STR a level early |
18 | 17+ STR to 45, LUCK 30, then SPD | |
19 | throughout, extra points should be put mostly into SPD, and mix in LUCK and STR based on feel | |
20 | maybe something like a 2/1/1 ratio | |
21 | ||
22 | Ethan: | |
23 | prioritize in this order exactly: | |
24 | 21 INT | |
25 | then 15 STR | |
26 | then 25 INT | |
27 | then 20 STR | |
28 | then 25 LUCK + 15 SPD | |
29 | then 35 STR | |
30 | then SPD | |
31 | ||
32 | ||
33 | Giles: | |
34 | I tend to be pretty casual about this, but here's one approach | |
35 | put his first level all into LUCK | |
36 | then rush 35 STR | |
37 | then get to 25 luck or better; dump extra points into it along the way too | |
38 | then go to 45 STR, then all SPD | we want the luck only for status effect spells in chapter 5, after that just get his STR then SPD into shape |
39 | ||
40 | Markus: | |
41 | all points go into SPD | maybe I should add a bit of luck too for imps? |
1 | The notes aren't super clear about where to place spells in your spellbook, so here it is: |
---|---|
2 | For Logan and Giles, just add new stuff at the bottom, except cure spells overwrite the previous cure |
3 | |
4 | Ethan is the trickiest |
5 | For ETHAN: |
6 | when he learns WARP1 and POWER2, put those in slots 2 and 3 |
7 | CURE always overwrites the old CURE |
8 | put CALM in slot 4 |
9 | put VENOM2 in slot 5 |
10 | WARP2 overwrites POWER2 in slot 3 |
11 | put SLEEP2/VENOM3 in slots 6 & 7 |
12 | put POWER4 and LEECH4 over VENOM2 and CURE3 |
13 | |
14 | for SONIA: |
15 | she learns 5 spells in the run, just put them in slots 2,3,4,5,6, ignoring all her starting crap |
16 | optionally you can also keep her DETOX spell and shift everything a slot lower |
17 | the only place this is relevant is the Gaius fight, and then only rarely, but it doesn't really hurt anything |
