Sagging memory chip prices have hurt Samsung's profit but there are signs that the global memory chip business will stabilize next year as data center orders pick up, though US-China trade issues will affect that sector.

Opera's blocker uses the EasyPrivacy Tracking Protection List, which covers a library of known tracker scripts, but doesn't auto-determine which trackers are actually problematic. Other features of Opera 64 include an upgraded Snapshot that lets you save sites as PDFs, capture screenshots, and annotation features like emojis, selfies and text.||https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/08/opera-64-tracker-blocker-speed-boost/|

The Digital Wellbeing app includes screen time statistics, app opens and notification tracking.
It also has an app timer and the Wind Down feature that slowly turns the screen greyscale as it gets late.
There's also a Focus Mode and Do Not Disturb Mode.
Family Link includes parental controls.
If a handset maker wants to include its own solution it must be placed at top-level settings, have an on boarding screen and include the same basic features as Wellbeing and family Link.
The new Google Mobile Services requirements also require full interoperability with standard USB-C chargers including the USB-PD fast charging standard.
That means you wouldn't need a power brick from your phone maker in order to get fast charging.

In a post-game interview on a Taiwanese broadcast on October 6, Chung wore a mask and goggles -- Hong Kong recently banned the wearing of masks in protests -- and then Chung said one of the slogans of Hong Kong protestors. The broadcast cut away immediately and the video of the interview has been taken offline. Blizzard said Chung's statement violated tournament rules against doing something that “brings you into public disrepute, offends a portion or group of the public, or otherwise damages Blizzard’s image.” Chung has not only been removed from the Grandmasters program but also had about $10,000 of his earnings revoked and has been banned from participating in Hearthstone esports for a year. “While we stand by one’s right to express individual thoughts and opinions, players and other participants that elect to participate in our esports competitions must abide by the official competition rules,” Blizzard said in a statement.||https://www.polygon.com/2019/10/8/20904303/hearthstone-grandmasters-blizzard-hong-kong-protest-player-suspended|

That means the ruling by a panel of the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals will stand. The panel ruled that the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act does apply to online platforms. Guillermo Robles sued Dominos after being unable to order food from the restaurant's website or mobile app using screen reading software. Robles is now clear to bring his case against Domino's to trial.||https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/07/dominos-supreme-court.html|

The companies include Hikvision and Dahua which together have a bout a third of the video surveillance camera market. Facial recognition company SenseTime (used in Opppo and Vivo), the world's most valuable AI startup and Face++ maker Megvii which is preparing for a Hong Kong IPO. Voice recognition software maker iFlytek, data recovery company Meiya Pico, micro and nano fab equipment maker Yixin Sciene and Technology and facial recognition company Yitu. The US accuses the eight restricted companies of facilitating human rights violations against "against Uighurs, Kazakhs, and other members of Muslim minority groups" in China.|
China's China’s Vice Premier Liu He arrives in the US Thursday for trade talks. The US Commerce Dept. said the entity list additions were unrelated to the talks.

|:48||Sony's president of Sony’s interactive entertainment Jim Ryan announced in a blog post that the next Playstation console will be called the PlayStation 5, and will be available in time for the 2020 holiday season.||https://blog.us.playstation.com/2019/10/08/an-update-on-next-gen-playstation-5-launches-holiday-2020/|
Things we knew or expected:
- Official name is PlayStation 5
- Ray tracing is hardware based
- UHD Bluray confirmed
More interesting tid bits:
- New SSD helps boot and loading times, as well as streaming. Also, it saves space because there is no need to duplicate data to improve load times
- Modular installs (only single player or delete single player once done)
- Real time data on friends in game activities in UI and easy to join them
- Controller has adaptive triggers and haptic feedback (very convincing according to Wired), as well as new speakers and USB Type-C. A bit lighter than an XBox One controller with batteries.

|Josh writes in about the story yesterday on California's 60 day rule on deep fake videos on social media before an election:|
This seems consistent with what I have always heard with FEC rules for advertisements and yard signs etc. That 60 day rule pops up in a lot of election ad stuff
What's more curious is why the other law (based on your coverage) doesn't seem to make distribution illegal, just creation? That creates a ton of plausible deniability. Who really knows where something they blindly share really comes from?
