|Microsoft launched Azure Blockchain Services, a managed enterprise service that provides for the formation, management and governance of consortium blockchain networks. The service integrates with Azure Active Directory and is meant to allow organizations to build apps on top of blockchain technology. The service launches with support for J.P. Morgan’s Quorum ledger. Microsoft also launched an extension for Visual Studio Code to let users create and deploy Ethereum smart contacts to Azure Blockchain Service or a public chain.||http://techcrunch.com/2019/05/02/microsoft-launches-a-fully-managed-blockchain-service/|
|The Guardian newspaper reported an operating profit of £0.8m for 2018-19, its first profit since 1998. In 2015 the paper had an operating loss of £57m when Editor-in-Chief Katharine Viner began a policy that included a splash screen asking users to contribute money, though no paywall was enforced. The paper also cut costs and shifted revenue to digital.||https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-48111464|

For some, solitaire may feel like a newcomer, replacing Reverse, when Microsoft Windows 3.0 arrived May 22, 1990. Microsoft intended it as a way to get people used to using a mouse. It survived into every version of Windows through 7 and expanded into the Microsoft Solitaire collection in Windows 8 and after.|

The mixed short episodes of podcasts along with personalized music suggestions meant to play on your commute to work. Spotify doesn't have any podcast recommendation tools but it has recently acquired Gimlet Media, Parcast and Anchor. Spotify told the Verge it's always testing new stuff but had nothing else to say.|

Pornhub VP Corey Price told Buzzfeed that his company is “extremely interested” in acquiring Tumblr. Tumblr banned porn form its platform last last year. Verizon sold Flickr to SmugMug a year ago and wrote down $4.6 billion related to its media businesses last year.|

He could hear it beeping when he tried the tracking and the beeping followed him around. He had somehow swallowed one of them in his sleep. A trip to the doctor resulted in a laxative which allowed him to recover the AirPods later. After washing the AirPods and letting it dry he found it still worked. The battery was at 41%. He called the experience "magical."|

|Game of Thrones season 8: How to adjust your TV for a cinematic picture|
|- Multiple people complained that Sunday's episode of Game of Thrones was too dark to see, and complained about the cinematography.|
WE PROMISE NO SPOILERS, unless you consider the fact that the episode was dark and happened at night. Sorry.
- cinematographer, Fabien Wagner told Wired: "A lot of the problem is that a lot of people don't know how to tune their TVs properly. A lot of people also unfortunately watch it on small iPads, which in no way can do justice to a show like that anyway. Game of Thrones is a cinematic show and therefore you have to watch it like you're at a cinema: in a darkened room. If you watch a night scene in a brightly-lit room then that won't help you see the image properly."
- Overcompression by your provider. DirecTV is not the only one that compresses its signals and sometimes that leads to difficult to see scenes.
- Connection. If your internet connection is low, HBO may compress the signal to keep the stream smooth which then may also lead to artifacts. This can be your conenction or the one coming from HBO
- App. Not all apps work as well. If you have more than one platform, try different ones to see which one works best.
- Size - As Wagner notes, if you're watching on a small device, the video file delivered will be smaller and not contain all the info of the full version and lead to artifacts.
- TV tuning - Also identified by Wagner. If you had motion smoothing on? Shrug!
|CNET's David Katzmaier is my most trusted source for issues like this. Here are his tips:|
- Turn off the lights.Any light should be behind the scene to avoid reflections off the glass.
- Choose "Movie" (Samsung, TCL) "Cinema" (LG Sony)or "Calibrated" (Vizio) picture mode".
- These modes show the most realistic color with solid contrast and correct shadow detail though they do mean lower light output.
- Turn off the motion smoothing "Soap opera effect:
Samsung: Auto Motion Plus
TCL Action smoothing
Vizo Motion Control
You can also play with backlight, brightness, contrast, color, tint, gamma, local dimming

We all want tech companies to be more transparent about precisely what content will get you blocked, but we also want them to throw their smartest AIs at the problem. I think these 2 goals are at cross purposes.
One of the key differences between machine learning and classical algorithms is that in ML we usually don't know why the computer is making a particular decision. Normal algorithms require a strict technical understanding of how to solve a problem, because that's basically all an algorithm is. The main advantage of ML is that you don't need that same level of step by step understanding to solve the problem, because the machine can figure out a lot of the details.
So how can tech companies transparently and precisely communicate their moderation policies if they're using machine learning to do the moderation?
