These charges from the United States Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of California are the latest in a legal battle involving Google, its self-driving car spinoff Waymo and rival Uber. Levandowski is accused of downloading more than 14,000 critical files about Google’s autonomous-vehicle research before leaving the company in 2016 and joining Uber the same year, when Uber bought his self-driving trucking startup Otto. Yelp will also ask users to pick from "cuisine", types of dishes, and "snacks and drinks" to get a better sense of what you like, and use that data along with what's nearby and open to suggest the best spots that also might be dog-friendly or be wheelchair accessible, for example. The new features are rolling out to 60 percent of iOS app users today, with a full rollout to all iOS users in the fall. Android will get a "subset" of these features with full features sometime next year.||https://www.engadget.com/2019/08/27/yelp-personalized-search-results/|

The Fairphone 2 earned it a 10/10 repairability score from iFixit, but the company had to cease support for 2013’s Fairphone 1 in 2017 after spare parts became too expensive.
Buyers will get incentives for recycling their previous phones when they buy the Fairphone 3 in certain countries, and the company says it's working to improve health, safety, and pay for its factory workers.
The Fairphone 3 has a 5.7-inch Full HD display, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

One example two years ago, after a gamer attempted to send the police to another player’s home sent them to the home of total stranger who was fatally shot in the confusion.
As of last October the Seattle Police Department has maintained an anti-swatting registry that lets people who think they might be swatted add their concern to a profile associated with their address if the police do get dispatched.
The registry simply adapts an existing Rave Mobile Safety product the police department already uses that connects a 911 call to the profile of a specific address.

In April, a study by New York University’s AI Now Institute found that a lack of diverse representation at major technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Facebook causes AI to cater more readily to white men. The report highlighted that only 15 percent of Facebook’s AI staff are women, and the problem is even more substantial at Google where just 10 percent are female.
Mozilla wants to solve this and created “Common Voice” in 2017, a tool that crowdsources voices as a dataset to diversify AI and represent the global population.
Common Voice offers its growing dataset publicly so any company can use it for research and to build and train their own voice-enabled apps. Currently, there’s more than 2,400 hours of voice data and 29 languages represented — including English, French, German,Traditional Mandarin Chinese, Welsh, and Kabyle.
Anyone can help diversify the vocal recognition in Mozilla’s project. Just head over to Common Voice and record yourself reading out sentences, or listen to others recordings and verify if they’re accurate.
|In late 2017, Amazon introduced an Indian-English accent for its voice assistant allowing it to pronounce Indian words and understand some Indian nuances. But the voice assistant still majorly caters to the west with six of its seven language options being European.|
At the start of 2018, Google announced Hindi support for its voice assistant, but the feature was limited to just a few queries. A few months after the initial release, the tech giant updated its feature so the Google Assistant can now have a conversation in Hindi — the third most spoken language in the world.
Black In AI, a project creating ways to increase the representation of people of color in AI, was launched by ex-Googlers in 2017. However, it didn’t launch as an official extension of their company’s work, it was launched to address what they saw as a need in the community.

I currently work I.T. for a K-8 and the majority of student and teacher devices are Latitude 2-in-1's. Theoretically they are being used in tablet mode but at least in our environment, 99% of the time they are NOT. To make matters worse, 2-in-1's are also more likely to have mechanical failures because 2-in-1 hinges are inherently weaker than traditional clamshell hinges.
