31 | AFTER ACTION REPORT:
32 | - Had a rough engine when we hit the gas to take off, but it quickly settled down and we got up okay. A bit tense, though! - No fighters outbound, flak was wide, Ernst said he put the pickles in the barrel. Coming off the target we saw a 109 in the distance. - Back over the water #3 sprung an oil leak. (Mech Failure #36) Fortunately it quit shortly after we noticed it, but I asked Butch to keep an eye on it. - No sooner had we dealt with that than the power for the Nose Turret went out. (Mech Failure #59) It was sorted out eventually. - We landed okay and other than the mechanical gremlins this was a proverbial milk run; not a scratch on the Daughter, not one shell of 50 cal. fired, everybody healthy, and a decent bomb run to ice the cake! I'm thankful for such a great crew and hope I can measure up to their standard.
