York scored 7 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take control of the game for good after going into the inning locked a 4 runs a piece. The Dukes hitters showed a lot of patience at the plate, taking 4 walks in the inning, all of which came around to score. A double from Trent Lawrence as well as singles from Max Hansmann and Mark Schneider helped push accross the 7 runs to put the Dukes up for good. York took an early lead, jumping up 3-0 in the first inning, after Matt Pinkowski ripped a single to bring home the first 2 runs of the game. Luke Barber would come up a couple batters later and delivery a single as well to bring home Pinkowski and make it 3-0 at the time. Downers Grove North would fight back in the top of the second inning. The Trojans took advantage of a couple walks and a hit by pitch; with a single from Ean Czech and a double from South Carolina commit, George Wolkow, helping to push across the 4 runs to make it 4-3 at the time. York was led on the mound by sophomore and Wake Forest commit, Ryan Sloan. Sloan threw a complete game with 8 punch outs and 0 earned runs to pick up the win. After giving up four unearned runs in the second inning, Sloan bounced back and was dominant the rest of the way settling in nicely. The York hurler featured a plus 3-pitch mix that he used to keep the Trojan hitters at-bay. His fastball sat 85-87 mph early on with arm-side action and sink and feel for the bottom of the zone. Slider was his go-to off-speed pitch, featuring a sharp 10/4 breaker at 73-75 mph which he could throw in any count. Changeup was thrown at 71-73 mph with intent and late downward action. | ||||
