5 | Goal Maintain or increase the number of providers enrolled in the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program in Iowa. Description The Vaccines for Children (VFC) program is a federally funded program established in 1994 to provide vaccines at no cost to eligible children from birth through 18 years of age. Since its establishment, the VFC program has significantly impacted the health of U.S children. Children eligible to receive VFC provided vaccines include children enrolled in Medicaid, children who do not have health insurance and children who are American Indian or Alaskan Native. The VFC program helps to ensure all children have a better chance to receive the recommended vaccinations on schedule. Formula The Immunization Program uses data from VFC-Provider Education Assessment and Reporting (PEAR) to calculate the total number of providers in Iowa enrolled in the VFC program at the end of each calendar year. Data Source VFC-PEAR | Goal Increase the number of IRIS data exchange providers participating in bi-directional data exchange. Description Bi-directional data exchange allows health care providers to send and receive immunization information for patients in IRIS. This improves timeliness and completness of immunization records in IRIS and avoids duplication of data entry. Bi-directional data exchange also improves clinical decision making and improves compliance with Iowa code. Formula Data exchange providers are considered to be participating in bi-directional data exchange if they have both sent immunization information to IRIS as well as queried or recieved immunization information from IRIS.
