| Fruit and Nut Trees from The Millet Seed
| Cherries | Nanking | 3" x 9" | These small trees (or large shrub) are totally loaded with beautiful flowers in the spring and just as many small sour cherries in the summer. Sweeter than a pie cherry but they are much smaller so pitting for pies is a big chore. Amazing for fresh snacking and for juicing (no pitting required for steam juicing!). You will need two for pollination. | $20.00
| Chestnuts (american x chinese) | seedlings | 3" x 9" | These american chinese hybrid seedlings were selected for size and quality from productive trees. You will need two for pollination. | $20.00
| Fig | Chicago Hardy | 1/2 gal- 3 gal | Do you want fresh figs in Iowa? This is the tree for you! Grow in containers or in the ground! If growing in the ground plant in your warmest location and mulch well over winter. The tree will die back to the ground if the trunk is unprotected but the roots will remain alive and well. Figs fruit on one year wood so you can get a crop each year once the tree is well established! If growing in containers leave outside until leaves freeze and fall off the tree. Store in a cool and dark location (the branches can tolerate temps as low as the teens) until the plant starts to leaf out in the late winter or spring. At this point make sure the leaves receive light but do not expose to freezing temperatures. | $20-$80
| Paw paw | seedlings | 3" x 9" | This tree is a must have! Tasty, tropical like fruit with a banana, vanilla, custard flavor. A wonderful addition to smoothies and ice cream. These trees are very attractive and low maintenance. They can grow near walnut trees, they grow in the shade and rarely get taller than 20'. They tolerate wet feet. You will need two for pollintation. Do not eat the seeds or the skin! These seedlings are from excellent cultivars and will produce similar fruits. | $20.00
| Peach | Iowa White | 3" x 9"- 2 gal | These seedlings come from Margarete Bailey. Loaded with amazing pink flowers in spring! This peach is exceptionally easy to grow and cold hardy. They have a white flesh and are more dry than a standard peach. Delicous fresh or frozen. | $20-$60
| Persimmons (american) | seedlings | 3" x 9" | American persimmons are my favorite fruit, they are so delicious! Easy to grow and extremely hardy. Ripening begins in September. Only eat ripe persimmons that have fallen to the ground naturally or from a light shaking. The fruits that hold onto the tree into winter can be eaten straight from the tree into March as they slowly ripen and freeze dry (at this point they taste like a date). These seedlings are a great rootstock for grafting onto and also produce a small but delicious fruit. You need a male and a female tree so buy a few or plan on doing some grafting! Tolerates juglone toxin from walnut trees. | $20.00
| Plum | Wild | 3" x 9" | These productive sweet and sour plums are so delicious fresh! A favorite for making sauces, jams, and "iowa umeboshi"! | $20.00
| Berries! Bushes, shrubs, and vines from The Millet Seed.
| Aronia | 4" deep, 2 gal | A wonderful landscape plant. Excellent form, flowers and abundant clusters of large aronia berries which are super healthy. They have the highest antioxidant content of any fruit native to North America. While they taste horrible of the plant to most people, they work great as an addition to smoothies, juices, and make a very nice wine. We also add them to apple sauce! | $10-50 | Only 2 left!
| Black currant | consort | 3" x 9", 1/2 gal | These small black berries are deliciously sweet, sour, and earthy when ripe. They are self pollinating and only grow 3'-5'. Full sun to part shade for best fruit production. Tolerates the juglone toxin produced by black walnuts. | $20.00
| Blackberry | thornless | 4" deep, 1/2 gal | Large and tasty blackberries without thorns! A trellis is recommended if you are limited on space and want to grow vertical. | $10-20
| Elderberry | Bob Gordon | 4" deep, 1/2 gal | Boost your immune system with these excellent berries! Easy to grow cultivar with larger berries that ripen more uniformly than most wild ones that grow around here. | $10-20
| Gooseberry | Hinnomaki | 3" x 9", 1/2 gal | Sweet and tart fruit. This variety has large fruit that turns pink to purple as it ripens. almost the size of a grape. Grows 3'-5' with thorns. Tolerates juglone toxin produced by walnut trees. | $20.00
| Grapes | Seedless concord, concord, seedless pink | The tastiest grape for fresh eating and juice in our opinion is a concord grape. We are offering both seeded and seedless varieties. The seeded variety has a more robust concord flavor so recommend this variety for juicing and anyone that does not mind the seeds. A strong trellis is necessary. | $15.00
| Red raspberry | 4" deep, 1/2 gal | This is a heritage red raspberry. Plant in full sun for the best production. No need to describe the joy of eating a fresh red raspberry right off the cane. If you do not have red raspberries you must add them to your garden for fresh snacking! | $10- 20
| Herbaceous perennial edibles and native pollinator plants from The Millet Seed.
| Alpine strawberry | A wonderful edible groundcover that grows well in full shade to full sun. They spread more and are hardier than regular strawberries. The more sun, the more fruit production. These are tiny strawberries with excellent flavor but you will have a hard time getting them before the critters! Think of these as a ground cover with occassional fruit rather than a main strawberry patch. | $5.00
| garlic chives | Wonderful fall flower for pollination and delicious greens early spring through summer. Essential ingredient for many korean recipes, including kim chi! Flavor is a unique mixture of onion and garlic. Very similar in flavor to ramps. | $5.00 | By request only.
| egyptian walking onion | Our favorite perennial allium that you must grow! If you enjoy onions this plant is for you. If cultivated right you can have fresh green onions all year long (a low tunnel for winter harvest is necessary) and you will never need to buy green onion seeds again! Technically a shallot, the bulbs are also edible with great flavor and will size up nicely (up to 3" diameter) with proper cultivation. | $5.00
| potato onion | A perennial onion that has excellent green onions and small yellow onions that store all winter long! Each onion planted in the fall will produce approximately 5-10 small to medium yellow onions the following summer. Technically a shallot. Another must have for allium lovers! | $5.00
| grey shallots | These shallots are wonderful! While small in size they are huge in flavor. I have heard that fancy french chef's claim this is the only true shallot. Also known as frog leg shallots, these tear drop shaped shallots can be cultivated just like garlic. Plant one "frog leg" in the fall and you will get 8-12 in the summer! If you grow them for the tops they can be left in place and thinned out each season The thin greens look just like a large chive and are delicious harvested young.

| Curry trees | 4" deep | If you enjoy cooking indian food this tree is a must have! Delicious fresh curry leaves are a key ingredient to many dishes (we always have a sambhar spice blend on hand which utilizes the leaves). I have a 10 year old tree in a five gallon pot that has provided many leaves over the years! | $20.00
| Ginger | This tropical perennial is really fun to grow. Harvesting and using fresh ginger is one of my favorite experiences. It is easy to grow as an annual if you sprout it at the right time and plant it in the ground late May or early June. Harvest begins in late September and can go all the way up until the freeze. You can also grow this in a container and bring it inside over the winter to grow it as a perennial. | $10.00
