4 | Burlington pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the WIAA season in the Oregon Sectional Semifinal, as they used a three-run first inning and quality pitching outing to take down Janesville Craig. In their big first inning, Ryan Dummer capped off the frame with an RBI single, which drove in a run and extended the Demons' lead to 3-0. The Cougars would slowly chip away for the next four innings, highlighted by a sacrifice fly from Ryan Lemm. Aben Beinlich was solid for five innings though, only letting up one earned run on the day, striking out three. Kaleb Zabielski closed the last two innings, punching out two batters and facing one over the minimum, earning the save for Burlington. | ||||

9 | Hortonville was dominant in their two sectional games yesterday, outscoring their opponents 20-2. To start the day they took on a solid Appleton North team and cruised to a 10-2 win, backed by a two hit, three-RBI performance from Nathan Vela. The No. 9 hitter, Evan Mahan also put together solid day at the plate as he too drove in three runs on just one hit. Rounding out the offensive efforts for the Polar Bears was Brett Sommer and Camden Kuhnke, who each tallied 2-for-4 day, and Kuhnke also drove in one run. On the mound, Thomas Burns was impressive across his five-inning start, as he allowed just one earned run and struck out six to earn the win. Camden Kuhnke would pitch the final two-innings and he too was lights out as he held the Lightning hitless and struck out four. In the Sectional Final, Hortonville squared off with a De Pere team who played upset earlier in the day, but this didn't faze the Polar Bears as they cruised to a dominant win in run-rule fashion. On the mound, Nathan Vela was dominant as he held the Redbirds scoreless across his five inning of work, and also struck out seven. The fourth inning is when we saw they first run cross the plate, courtesy of a Evan Mahan RBI single. Also in the fourth RBI singles from Brett Sommer, Camden Kuhnke, Joe Fischer, and Hayden Timm extended Hortonville's lead to five. Then fifth and final inning, Camden Kuhnke got the scoring started again, this time with a two-RBI double. This was followed up by a three-run home run from Joe Fischer to end the game in run-rule fashion. With the win, Hortonville earned a spot in the State Tournament taking place in Appleton next weekend. | ||||

12 | In Division 2, St. Thomas More, who has been one of the most dominant teams all season long, is making the trip out to Appleton after two sectional wins on Tuesday. In the first one, the Cavaliers were led by Kyle Alivo who smacked a grand slam in the sixth that gave STM the lead late in the game. Alex Alicea was also a key contributor offensively as he tallied one hit and two RBIs. Oliver Gonzalez, George Benske, and Brayden Alivo also contributed two-hit performances in the game too, and benske also drove in a run. On the mound, Elijah Niemiec earned the win in his two innings of relief as he allowed just two hits and one unearned run while striking out four. Despite a late push from the KML offense, St. Thomas More held onto the win, and solidified there spot in Appleton. STM jumped out to an early one run lead in the first inning, courtesy of sacrifice from Oliver Gonzalez. Then in the second, Brayden Alivo smacked a double to bring home another run, and give STM the two-run lead, and they would also bring home one more run on a passed ball in the fourth. In the seventh, Ben Mallow got KML on the board with a two-RBI double, but this late push would eventually fall short as Samuel Mommer got out of the jam to earn the win. Mommer was the only arm STM would need in this one as he allowed just the two runs on three hits and struck out nine in his seven innings of work. | ||||

15 | Out in Marshfield, SPASH came out on top in this absolutely loaded sectional. In game one, Ty Rechner was key on the mound, as he held a talented River Falls lineup to just one run on four hits, and struck out three. Offensively, the Panthers took advantage of three defensive errors from the Wildcats but both Devin Mrozek and Ben Fonti each tallied a hit, an RBI, and a run in the win. The only other hit for SPASH came at the hands of D Koback, who tripled and scored a run too. In the Sectional Championship, it came down to the wire, and eventually Stevens Point came out on top. With the game tied at five in the seventh inning, Ben Fonti lead off the inning with a single, and was eventually moved over to third. Then Bennett Klish came up and delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home Fonti, and give SPASH the Sectional Championship. Before his late game heroics, Klish was key in the win, as he tallied a 3-for-3 day and also scored two runs. Both Deacan Koback and Ben Fonti also enjoyed two hits days, and Koback also drove in one. Rounding out the offensive efforts for the Panthers was Kale Roth and Braylen Nystrom who combined for three RBIs and two hits. On the mound, Josh Opiola earned the win as he limited Hudson to four runs on seven hits in his complete game efforts. | ||||

18 | It was the Sabers who made it out of Sectional 8 and punched their ticket to Appleton. In game one, Cael Lynch came up big at the plate as he doubled and drove in a team-high two runs. Both Dylan Cunningham and Maxamillion Martin each were responsible for XBHs in this one, and combined for three runs scored too. On the mound, Noah Musolf earned the win as he punched out nine in his 6.2 innings of work and allowed two runs on two hits. In game two, the Sabers went up against conference rival Oak Creek, who they bested in the season series earlier in the year. Cooper Kamlay was lights out on the mound for Franklin, holding a talented Oak Creek lineup scoreless and allowing just two hits in his complete game efforts. Offensively, Cael Lynch was responsible for the only two RBIs of the game, both of which came home on a single in the fourth inning. Alex Mierow tallied the days only multi-hit performance as he went 2-for-3. Dylan Cunningham, Maxamillion Martin and Ben Hefter each logged a hit in the win as well. | ||||

21 | Union Grove beat the one team who had their number for all of 2023, Waterford, on Tuesday to advance to the Sectional Final. Landon Dessart and Dylan Questad found themselves in a pitcher's duel throughout the first portion of this one, before the Broncos were able to put two runs on the board. Owen Nowak got the scoring started with an RBI single to right field, followed by a sacrifice fly from Nathan Williams, as Union Grove was able to manufacture two runs against one of the top arms in the state. They added two more runs in the fifth with the help of a sacrifice fly from shortstop Beau Bloxdorf, extending their lead to 4-0. This all happened as Dessart dominated on the mound, going six strong innings when the Broncos needed him most. The right-hander only allowed one hit, walking five and striking out four batters in the win. With the Wolverines threatening in the final frame, Nowak came in and closed it out, striking out the side in the process. Burlington and Union Grove matched up in the Sectional Final in Oregon, as the Demons were able to pull off their third straight Power 25 upset and defeat the Broncos 7-0. Kaleb Zabielski was back at it on the mound after closing out the first game. The senior was nearly flawless with the 71 pitches he had to work with, going five innings while only allowing two hits. He struck out six batters, and then handed the ball to Carter Baumeister. Baumeister finished the last two innings stress-free, facing the minimum and sending his team to the State Tournament. Offensively, Wren Dietz was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double to lead the way, as Burlington got a 2-for-4 performance from Ryan Dummer as well. | ||||

He struck out four batters in his complete game efforts, twirling a two-hitter against a formidable Muskego offense. For the Knights, Nathan Schopf led the way with a 2-for-2 performance in the middle of their order, doubling and driving in a team-high two runs. Cade Palkowski added two hits, and Jibben chipped in an RBI to win it for Oak Creek, as the Warriors were never able to get anything going on the offensive end. | ||||

Bryan drove in three runs to give Oconomowoc a 3-2 lead, but the Warhawks responded with a run of their own in the next inning to tie it. In the fourth, Jackson Reno had a big two-RBI single to extend the Raccoons' lead to 6-2. From there, Ryan Brennecke and Anderson Hayes only allowed Arrowhead to score three runs, working out of jams and avoiding big innings to win and advance to the Sectional Final. | ||||

In their first game of the day, Zach Wolfram struck out 11 batters in a 4-0 win over Sussex Hamilton, holding the Chargers to just two hits on the day. The Phoenix took advantage of 10 walks on offense, as they group only had three hits in total. Jake Anderson highlighted the fifth inning with a solo home run, as Menomonee Falls put up all four of their runs in that fifth frame to advance to the Sectional Final against Oconomowoc. Grant Schultz followed up Wolfram's performance with a complete game shutout of his own, as Menomonee Falls used that to advance to the State Tournament. Schultz only struck out two batters, working around six hits and two defensive errors in this one. Offensively, Derek Steinbrenner hit a home run to extend the Phoenix' lead to 2-0, which is all they needed on Tuesday. Jake Anderson was the lone member of the offense with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 on the day. As the Oconomowoc offense went quiet, Menomonee Falls took advantage and propelled themselves to the State Tournament next week. | ||||

It was their third straight one-run win, as they took down Notre Dame Academy in this tight matchup. Lucas Miller was clutch in relief for Denmark, as the right-hander threw three scoreless innings after the Tritons had put up four runs earlier. As Miller weathered the storm, the Vikings took advantage with the walk-off in the bottom of the seventh to extend their dominant season. Both Miller and Dittmer had multiple hits in this one, powering Denmark to another victory. The Sectional Final in Winneconne featured Denmark and Chilton, two teams that have dominated the Division 2 field all season. Jaycob Dittmer nearly threw a complete game shutout for the Vikings in this one, coming up one out short. Dittmer, in 6.2 innings of work, struck out two batters and walked three, allowing five hits in the process. Lucas Miller came in to get the last out, and did so. Rheis Johnson had a big RBI double in the first inning that proved to be the difference-maker for Denmark, as the catcher went 2-for-2 in this one. The Vikings added one more run in the fifth inning, and now look to take home their third straight Division 2 State Title next week. | ||||

Andrew Halser picked up the win for the Hilltoppers, working a quality start against the Generals. Halser struck out four batters and only walked one, allowing one unearned run on the day. Marquette put up three runs in both the second and fifth inning to pull away in this one, led by a 2-for-2 performance from Ian Reno, who also pitched the last inning. Parker Wyatt tripled and added an RBI, as Marquette would advance to the Sectional Final to face-off against Whitefish Bay. Whitefish Bay, after falling short of the State Tournament last year, punched its ticket to Appleton with a shutout victory over Marquette. The Blue Dukes got a complete game shutout out of Charlie McIntyre, as the freshman stepped up in a big moment for his team. McIntyre only struck out one batter in his two-hitter, as Whitefish Bay played flawless defense behind him. Offensively, both JD Dix and Jack Counsell tripled and scored in the win from the top of the order. Austin Wienke followed, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Despite getting nine strikeouts from Luke Agnew, it was not enough for the Hilltoppers, as the offense went cold, sending the Blue Dukes to Appleton, where they'll play in the semifinals next Monday. | ||||

The Eagles erupted for seven runs in the second inning, followed up with four more in the third inning to put this game away early on. Drew Peterson got the scoring started for Jefferson, singling to right field to drive in Andrew Altermatt. Aidan Kammer, who was 3-for-3 in the game prior to this one, hit a three-run home run to end it for the Eagles, sending them to Appleton with the walk-off run-rule win. The Cardinals put up all four of their runs early against Sun Prairie West, as Wyatt Baird and Hayden Hellenbrand each had a hit and an RBI, including a double from Hellenbrand. Jacob Guerrero and Hellenbrand combined on the mound to hold the Wolves to just three runs, settling in after giving up two runs early. With Sun Prairie West threatening in the last frame, Hellenbrand was able to induce a fly out to the outfield, as Middleton held on and won their semifinal matchup. In the Sectional Final, Middleton and Verona found themselves in a low-scoring affair, as neither team got quite a rhythm going on offense. Noah Schmitt threw six innings in his start for the Cardinals, holding the Wildcats to just one run on four hits. Jackson Rademacher and Jacob Guerrero both had two hits and an RBI to lead the way for Middleton, as that would be all they needed in this matchup. In Game One, Hartford erupted for six runs in the final frame to pull away from Watertown. Carter Kutz led the way with two hits and three RBIs, including a double from the righty. Joe Landgraf and Braden O'Morrow each added two hits as well. Austin Kutz was solid on the mound, going 6.1 strong innings, striking out five batters while holding the Goslings to just one run, earning himself the win. Game Two was a rematch from a couple of weeks ago, as Beaver Dam and Hartford faced-off once again. This one took 10 innings, as Eli Bryant and Carter Kutz found themselves in a pitcher's duel. In eight innings, Bryant allowed just one unearned run, punching out six batters. On the other hand, Kutz went 7.1 innings while tallying eight strikeouts, only allowing one hit and one unearned run. Braycen Burg came on in relief for Kutz, and was dominant. Burg didn't allow the Golden Beavers to score in 2.1 innings of relief, as he struck out four batters in the process. The Orioles put up three runs in the top of the 10th, as RJ Thomae and Austin Kutz both had RBI singles in the frame. Hartford struggled to start the season, but have now picked it up and made an improbable run to the State Tournament. | ||||

The Railroaders were able to outlast Ashland in the end, setting themselves up for a battle against West Salem in the Sectional Final. Mason Lange and Keaton Camastral combined to shut out West Salem in this Sectional Final, as the two Railroaders only allowed five hits in total. Lange did most of the heavy lifting, striking out six batters in six innings of work. Camastral came in and closed it out, punching out two of the three batters he faced. Offensively, Colin Boyarski and Kellen Smith both had two hits for Altoona, as Boyarski had an RBI and Smith scored once. Camastral had a team-high two RBIs in the win for the Railroaders, as they will be one of four teams to compete for a title at the Division 2 State Tournament. | ||||

Offensively, he wen 1-for-2, and drove in a team-high two runs, too. Both Brayden Olson and Miles Wilson logged two hit performances, and each scored a pair of runs too. Rounding out the offensive efforts for the Saints was N Imhoff, who drove in one run on a single. In game two, Brayden Olson dominated on the mound, as he struck out 11 in his near complete game efforts and scattered just three hits. Offensively, Saint Croix Falls took advantage of four errors from Marathon's defense. Brady Belisle tallied the days only multi-hit performance with a triple and a single, and he also scored one run, too. In the Sectional Semifinals, the Blugolds got a complete game shutout from Tanner Peterson, who twirled a three-hitter while striking out five batters in a nearly flawless performance. Calvin Hargrove was the main run producer for Aquinas, as the catcher went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a triple while driving in a team-high three runs. The Blugolds used those three RBIs to push themselves past Bangor, the Division 4 Runners-Up last season. Game Two was more of the same against the reigning Division 3 champion: Cuba City. Will Deets went five innings, and held the Cubans to just two runs on three hits. Deets struck out six in his start, and then handed the ball over to Eddie Peters. The Xavier commit closed the last two innings, only letting up two hits and a walk, while accumulating two strikeouts in the process. Will Hargrove was 2-for-2 with a run scored, and Cullen Sackman had two RBIs to get Aquinas the victory. The Blugolds now look to Tuesday, where they will fight to a Division 3 title. | ||||

However, Random Lake, was able to push across two runs in the middle innings which was enough to send them to the Sectional Championship. In their second game of the day, Bryan Mitchell turned in a dominant performance as Random Lake punched their ticket to the Appleton. Mitchell three a complete game one-hitter. Mitchell surrendered his first hit with two outs remaining in the seventh inning. At the plate, Payton Donahue went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs. | ||||

Dessellier closed out the last two frames, punching out four batters while only walking one. Benjamin Kienbaum had the big hit to give Kiel the 4-3 lead in the sixth inning, as the DH hit a single and drove in two runners for the Raiders. That clutch hit powered Kiel past the Huskies, as they advanced to the Sectional Final. Nathan Stephany twirled a complete game shutout to send Kiel to the State Tournament next week, as he struck out six batters in seven innings of work, only allowing four hits and two walks. 75 | McDonell Central was locked in a tight game with Regis when they headed into the bottom of the seventh. Cael Holm's walk-off hit to left field sent McDonell to the Sectional Championship, continuing their miracle run throughout the WIAA Playoffs. The sixth-seeded team in their region, McDonell, toppled the top-seeded Regis in a back-and-forth game that saw them advance to the Sectional Championship. At the plate for the Macks, Aidan Misfeldt went 2-for-3. Misfeldt also earned the win on the mound as the Macks advanced to the Sectional Championship. Unlike their first game, McDonell's offense exploded in the second as they hung 11 runs against their opponent, Washburn. Despite an early lead from Washburn, the Macks' offense could not be stopped as they tallied 11 hits throughout the game that turned into 11 runs. McDonell's runs would go unanswered as they locked their name into a spot in the State Tournament. | ||||

78 | Pecatonica is headed to Appleton where they will compete for the State Championship after they picked up two sectional wins on Tuesday. In the first game, a matchup between the two teams atop the Six Rivers divisions, a walk-off hit from Elijah Knutson broke the deadlock and sent the Vikings to the Sectional Championship. The low-scoring affair was led by Jameson Johnson who was on the mound for Pecatonica. Johnson was dominant as he threw a complete game and struck out nine batters. Johnson only allowed one run on four hits. At the plate, Tyler McKeon also contributed as he went 2-for-4. Pecatonica's second win came against Johnson Creek in the Sectional Championship game. A three-run first inning propelled them and lasted for the rest of the game as they defeated Johnson Creek by a final score of 5-2. Again, the Vikings were impressive defensively. On the mound, McKeon threw five and two-thirds innings and allowed just two runs. McKeon punched out nine batters over the frames and allowed just five hits. In relief, Coy Ruegsegger was able to close out the victory for the Vikings as he recorded the final four outs without allowing a hit. At the plate, Max Steele went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. With the win, Pecatonica was crowned Sectional Champions and punched their ticket to Appleton. | ||||
