2 | Creating Your List: | -By the spring of your freshman year create a list of 25 universities/colleges that could be a potential fit for you academically, financially, and geographically. Create this list within your Athlete Match account (this list will be edited many times over the next several seasons). |
3 | College ID Camps: | -Attend the East Coast ID 'Fusion Team Camp' held in July each year. ECNL & ECNL-RL players have this event included as part of their player development fees for no additional cost. -As a freshman we advise players to attend one additional college ID camp that is held on a university campus. Although this is not a necessity from a recruitment perspective, it allows players to experience the ID camp environment and spend time on a college campus. |
4 | Academics: | -Meet with your guidance counselor and discuss your academic plan for the next four years. -Maintain an academic portfolio. -Begin to research career possibilities. -Take the PSAT, review your results and evaluate what areas you need to strengthen. -Review what high school courses colleges require. -Review the NCAA academic eligibility requirements to understand what courses must be completed to become eligible to play collegiate soccer NCAA D1 Eligibility Standards / NCAA D2 Eligibility Standards. |
5 | Resume Building: | -Create and maintain your Athlete Match Profile (club provided). -Maintain an extracurricular portfolio. -Get involved with volunteering for a local youth organization or charity. |
6 | On Field: | -Attend all Fusion scheduled team practices, games, and showcases. -Start to gain a clear understanding of your roles and responsibilities in 2-3 positions (field players) |
7 | College Visits/Observations: | -Visit as many college campuses as possible. -Try to watch one local NCAA D1, D3, and D3 soccer game. Observe the style-of-play, level of coaching, facilities, atmosphere etc... -Tip: when traveling to Fusion away games or showcases try to visit at least one college campus per away trip. -Tip: keep a log of things you liked/disliked about the campuses you have visited (urban vs. suburban, large school vs. small school etc..) |
8 | Club Communications/Check-In: | -Notify your Head Coach & Lead College Placement contact when your 'College List' has been updated within the Athlete Match platform. -No other communications are needed during your Freshman year. -Lead College Placement Contact: Boys Jamie Scott / Girls Craig Scagarella. |
9 | College Coach Communications & Player Commitments | Boys: It is too early in the recruiting cycle, the recruitment process starts next year. ECNL level players are welcome to email college coaches with minimum expectation of coach attendance at games Girls: With the exception of ECNL level Girls players, It is too early in the recruiting cycle, the recruitment process starts next year. *The below applies to ECNL Girls Only: -Prior to each major showcase or ECNL game you can email college programs on your list requesting them to scout/observe you.
