10 | On the strength of a six run third inning the Grayslake North Knights pulled off a stunning upset, beating the Stevenson Patriots by a score of 10-6. With the game tied 1-1 in the third inning the Knights would load the bases and bust the game wide open, as four consecutive hitters (Grant Garrett, Marcus Gawerecki, Ethan Feldman, and Brody Parten) came up big with RBI base hits. Nathan Macias would follow suit with an RBI groundout, putting the Knights up seven to one. The rest is history, as Casey Staver held the Stevenson offense in check all night, allowing four runs (1 earned) off five hits while striking out two and walking two across six innings. A reversal of roles meant a reversal of fortune for the Warriors as they stormed back from five runs down on the strength of junior Kaleb Wilkey’s (1-2, 2 R, 4 RBI (GS), 2 BB) and senior Laz Liriano’s (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB) performances at the plate to win 12-10 in seven.
