5 | Lake Park | 2 | York | 3 | Final |
6 | By Peter Hamot Area Scout. Staff Writer York and Lake Park squared off on Saturday for a Sectional Final matchup and turned in one of the most exciting games our staff has seen all spring. A late two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh inning helped push the Dukes over the top, walking off Lake Park by the score of 3-2 to advance to Super Sectionals this coming Monday night. In the bottom of the seventh with two outs and staring down a 2-1 deficit, York was in dire need of a rally to keep their season afloat. With the heart of the order coming up, Jack Braun and Edwardsville commit Max Hansmann both found some outfield grass with back-to-back singles - followed by a walk to the four-hitter Jack Rozmus. With the bases loaded and two outs, uncommitted junior Ryan Turner stepped up to the plate and delivered a single up the middle, plating two runs and sending the Dukes to the Supers in dramatic fashion. Wake Forest commit and sophomore Ryan Sloan took the ball for York and settled in nicely after allowing a two-spot in the first inning. The big right-hander tossed six strong innings with eight hits, two earned runs, seven strikeouts and three walks. Sloan displayed a mature handle on his arsenal, spotting three pitches for strikes that included a fastball up to 91 mph and effective slider/changeup combination. Right-hander Sebby Alvarez threw a heck of a game for the Lancers, dominating throughout and only running into trouble in the last frame. Alvarez ended up going 6.2 innings while scattering eight hits, three earned runs, three walks and five strikeouts. The Lancers were able to get out to an early lead in the top of the first inning thanks to an RBI single from JC Ahlstedt, plating Illinois-Chicago commit Mason Baer who led off the inning with a single to make it 1-0 at the time. A bases-loaded walk to Aurora commit Max Baer pushed the Lancers' lead to 2-0 after one half inning of play. The Dukes were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a heads-up base-running play from Brian Filosa - who scored from third on a drop-third strike throw to first, cutting the Lancers' lead to 2-1 at the time. Coming out of the 'pen for the Dukes was the aforementioned Max Hansmann, who fired a clean inning with no hits, runs or walks and struck out one. The right-hander displayed some high-octane stuff, with a high-spinning breaking ball and a fastball up to 90 mph pairing together from similar windows. Notable Performances: Ryan Turner (York): 2-for-4, 2RBI Ryan Sloan (York): 6IP, 8H, 2ER, 7K, 3BB Sebby Alvarez (Lake Park): 6.2IP, 8H, 3ER, 5K, 3BB JC Ahlstedyt (Lake Park): 2-for-4, RBI | ||||
