Area Scout, Tech Analyst Glenbrook South hosted New Trier in their final matchup of the regular season. After winning the first game Monday 8-1, Glenbrook took home a 3-0 win in game two for the sweep. Glenbrook South jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Owen Weisensel started the inning with a five pitch walk. After falling behind 0-2, Nic Swanson worked the count back to even and then singled on a line drive up the middle. Wichita State commit Scott Newman drove in the game's first run on an RBI single past a diving shortstop. Jack Disano reached on an error and allowed Newman to get to third. Boston College commit James Hackett brought home Newman on a sharply hit single through the 5-6 hole. In the third inning, Glenbrook South tacked on another run to make it 3-0. Newman led off the inning with a triple to the right center gap. Two batters later, Hackett once again drove in Newman with a single to center field. Senior right-handed pitcher James Sherman earned the win with 3 2/3 scoreless innings pitched. Sherman struck out four batters while allowing four hits and two walks. In the second inning New Trier had a runner at third with one out and Sherman struck out the sixth hole hitter for the second out. Later in the inning, New Trier had the bases loaded with two outs and Sherman got a fly out to end the inning. Sherman used a three pitch mix against New Trier, fastball, curveball and a changeup. A four seam fastball with around the zone command sat 80-82 mph. The curveball worked with a 11/5 shape sitting 68-71 mph and a changeup in the mid 70s. Greg Neppl came into pitch with the bases loaded, two outs and New Trier’s leadoff hitter coming up to bat. Neppl induced a groundout on the first pitch he threw to get out of the inning. The right-handed pitcher used a fastball, curveball sequence. The fastball played with four seam action at 77-80 mph and a curveball at 64-66 mph. Despite taking the loss, sophomore Justin Wood had an impressive outing for New Trier. The right-handed pitcher went four innings with six strikeouts and gave up just three runs, seven hits and walked two. In his final inning after the leadoff hitter got a single and later made his way to third with no outs, Woods went on to strike out the next three batters to leave the runner stranded at third. Wood mainly used his fastball and curveball with a changeup at times. The fastball played with late arm-side action sat 82-85 mph through his outing. A curveball with sharp 12/6 downward action when thrown down in the zone sat 68-69 mph and a changeup with some sink at 73-75 mph.
