15 | No. 23 Maroa-Forsyth | 8 | Gillespie | 1 | Final |
16 | No. 23 Maroa-Forsyth cruised to an easy 8-1 victory in Thursday’s sectional semi-final matchup with Gillespie. The Trojans took control of the game early as a Jacob Blunck RBI single ignited a four run first inning, which would turn out to be more than enough run support for Lewis & Clark CC commit Jaxson Grubbs. The Right-hander was dominant on the mound, allowing just one run off three hits, striking out six and walking none across six strong innings of work. RBI base hits from junior Evan Foster, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville commit Ethan Willoughby, and junior Zayn Giles in the seventh would power another four-run rally for the Trojans and essentially put the game on ice. A scoreless inning in relief from sophomore Kaiden Maurer sealed the deal, as the Trojans would go on to win 8-1, to advance to the sectional final against Quincy Notre Dame this Saturday at 11 a.m. in Pleasant Plains. | ||||
