Area Scout, Tech Analyst In game one of the Chicago Public League semifinals, Lane Tech defeated Kenwood by a score of 7-0. Lane Tech awaits the winner of game two of the semifinals action between Brooks and Simeon. Lane Tech started the scoring in the third inning, pushing four runs across. The nine hitter Edwin Quinones got the inning started with a first pitch hustle double to left field. Joseph Perona advanced Quinones over the third with a groundout. Junior Josh Katz then broke the nothing-nothing tie with a triple in the right center gap. Katz scored during the next at-bat with a single from Louie Derechin. A fielder's choice and a double from Carter Dow put two runners in scoring position for Jack Tzur who drove in both runners with a triple of his own. Lane Tech ended the inning with a 4-0 lead. Lane Tech added two more runs in the fifth inning to make it 6-0. Nick Lagges led off with a hit by pitch. Two batters laters, Tzur hit his second triple of the game to drive in Lagges. Tzur came around to score on a pass ball. One more run came across the plate for Lane Tech with a solo home run from Lagges to lead off the seventh inning. Lane Tech threw three pitchers to complete a three hit shutout. Junior Jacob Maza got the start with 4.1 innings pitched with one walk and walked three. Maza threw 11 first pitch strikes to 19 batters. Lucino Sotelo was the first out of the pen, throwing two innings with three strikeouts and gave up two hits. Katz faced the last two batters and struck out one. Area Scout, Tech Analyst Brooks won an extra inning thriller over Simeon in the second game of the Chicago Public League semifinals. Brooks moves on to face Lane Tech Monday in the League Championship game. After trailing 1-0 early, Brooks took their first lead of the game in the fourth inning. With one out, Ryan Little drew a walk followed by a single from Donyae Smith. Little and Smith got into scoring position on a throwing error from the center fielder. Brooks got a runner cut down at the plate on a ball from Andy Ayala. Jaylun Camper kept the inning alive with a two out walk to get the bases loaded for Amir Faulkner. Faulkner delivered the go ahead hit with a single back up the middle to score two, making it 2-1. Heading to extra innings tied at 2-2, Brooks scored four runs after two outs. Leadoff hitter Kendall Larry reached on an error to keep the inning alive. William Hill beat out an infield single to the second basemen. An outfield miscue led Ryan Little to drive in Larry and Hill on a triple. After Smith got hit by the pitch, Ayala singled home Little and Smith later scored on a pass ball. Single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames for the Griffins would briefly tie the game at 5-5 going into the home half of the sixth. A single Homewood-Flossmoor run in the inning would see the Vikings take a measly 6-5 lead into the last inning.
