19 | tm | Microsoft announced a few updates to the Xbox lineup. There will be a white version of the Xbox Series X with no disc slot, so this is for the all-digital crowd. Specs are the same as the rest of the Series X lineup. With a 1 TB hard drive. Coming later this year for $449.99. There's also a new Xbox Series X console with a disc slot and a 2 TB hard drive coming for $599.99. And a version of the disc-less Xbox Series S in white as well for $349.99. 20 | nm | Xbox head Phil Spencer continued his practice of commenting on the idea of a handheld game console from Microsoft. When asked about it at IGN Live he said he was excited to talk about "different form factors" at a later date and said " "I think being able to play games locally is really important." | https://www.ign.com/articles/phil-spencer-on-xbox-handheld-rumors-being-able-to-play-games-locally-is-really-important-ign-live-2024
21 | tg | Nokia demonstrated the first Spatial Audio call Monday on an existing 5G network running the 3GPP Immersive Video and Audio Services or I-V-A-S. Current phone calls are monophonic and I-V-A-S offers Spatial Audio. That means you'll be able to tell where voices are coming from relative to other voices. Nokia told Reuters that I-V-A-S is becoming standardized "so the network providers, chipset manufacturers, handset manufacturers can begin to implement it in their products.” The standard is comign to the 5G Advanced network upgrade, so expect to see it available in phones in a few years. | https://www.theverge.com/2024/6/10/24175231/nokia-3d-spatial-audio-5g-phone-call-advanced
22 | tm | Security researchers demonstrated a vulnerability in the Visual Studio Code marketplace by making a fake version of the Dracula Official theme used by coders that had no difference to the real one other than collecting hostname, number of installed extensions, domain name, and OS, and sending it to a remote server. That demonstrated that more malicious uses could be conducted. They disclosed the project int he ReadMe text. Then they examined extensions on the marketplace to look for malicious code and 1,283 that had malware. Those had been installed cry coders 2229 million times. All malicious extensions were reported to Microsoft though the majority have not yet been removed. | https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/malicious-vscode-extensions-with-millions-of-installs-discovered/

28 | tm | Google's Project Green Light has been around for a year. It uses data from car telemetry and navigation apps to help cities adjust the timing of their lights to fit actual traffic patterns better. So no cameras out sensors at stop lights, just data analysis and regular updates to timing info. Even doing this once a year would be an improvement since light timing is usually only updated every 5 years under previous systems and sometimes not for decades. Project Green Light combines data from Google's navigation apps and the University of Michigan's access to GM car telemetry to provide recommendations on light timing. The system has been tested over the last year in several cities including Abu Dhabi, Hamburg, Seattle and Kolkata and showed a 30% reduction in stop and go traffic at lights. | https://sites.research.google/greenlight/
