But he also said that's aseparate issue from legal access for criminal cases and he thinks the idea that strong encryption should be unbrekable is unreasonable. He said he understand that acommodating potential government access could weaken encryption and said, "I think that's a legitimate issue that we can debate—how much risk are we willing to take in return for the reward?" adding "There is a cost to having impregnable security, and we've talked about some of the aspects of that. The cost is that criminals are going to be able to get away with stuff, and that's going to prevent us in law enforcement from holding them accountable."||https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/11/doj-strong-encryption-that-we-dont-have-access-to-is-unreasonable/|

The Tribunal upheld its decision that Uber drivers are employees and must be paid minimum wage and receive satutory holiday pay. The Tribunal said that independent contractors must have no requirement that work be offered and no obligation to offer work and that Uber does not meet that definition because Uber requires drivers to accept 80% of trips to maintain status. Uber said it will appeal to the Court of Appeal, the last stop before UK's Supreme Court.||http://fortune.com/2017/11/10/uber-uk-workers-rights-employment-appeal-tribunal/|

|sl||Hi Tom, Sarah, Roger and Darren.|
On the subject of Raja Koduri going to Intel and apparently starting work on a PCIe graphics card. Raja made it clear in public post that he had been burned out at RTG when he took a leave of absence several months back so to see Raja move to another company was not completely unexpected.
It should also be noted AMD keeps the Radeon Technology Group (RTG) rather separate in order to get contracts like their one with Intel, this was speculated for some time that it also would make it easier to sell RTG to another company like Intel.
And finally the nature of the graphics card industry is that Intel, Nvidia and AMD all have cross licencing agreements with each other as no one can develop graphics technology in a bubble, though Intel is patent poor in this area. So Intel will likely be able to licence the patents needed from Nvidia or AMD without a legal battle despite AMD’s posturing as the three companies normally licence patents to each other.
|Here’s Raja’s letter saying how he had spent a lot of “family credits” on Vega’s development at RTG.|
Here’s a publicly available cross licensing agreement between Intel and Nvidia.
Here’s AMD’s statement on separating RTG from the rest of AMD’s operations.
