|Messages of the day (email@example.com)|
|Yesterday Jeff asked about resources to help his 5-year-old learn to code games. |
Roger mentioned YoYoGames and we got a bunch more suggestions as well!
Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/) [Free]
This is super easy for first time programmers as it turns programming into Lego. This is only good for learning the basics of logic though.
And for Android apps http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore
Alan Also, there's a series of graphic novels called "Secret Coders" by Gene Luen Yang. They have puzzles that teach programming concepts.
at least one game design specific YouTube channel Sean loves is Extra Creditz (https://www.youtube.com/user/ExtraCreditz).
Advice from Sean “BIG piece of advice is always start small and work your way up. Games are very complex and you can quickly get burned out if you are trying to build a huge system by yourself. Also, be ready to scrap ideas that aren't working. You almost always throw out or redesign your "first draft" of a program/game, but that's a good thing because it helps you learn.”
